"AMRA Nationals" Road Warrior Tour race to be televised"
The American Motor Racing Association is pleased to announce that the
2003
"AMRA Nationals" Road Warrior Tour event will be televised on
a tape delay
basis by Charter Communication.
Charter Communication's local viewing area includes nearly all major markets
in West Virginia and surrounding areas, and regionally is available along
most of the eastern United States.
"This has been a goal the AMRA set for itself" AMRA president
Bill Hayes
stated.
The "AMRA Nationals" Road Warrior Tour race is scheduled for
October 3rd &
4th at Pat Minnite's West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV
as
part of the "2003 RaceFest World Championship".
Charter Communication's local production team regularly cover sporting
events, including a diversity of activities, from boxing to football,
as
well as auto racing.
"The Charter Communication's telecast will provide national exposure
for
AMRA competitors, as well as open new markets for AMRA growth".
Hay's concluded saying "Charter Communication's seems to be as excited
about
this opportunity as the AMRA is. We are already in negotiations for putting
a package of televised Road Warrior Tour races together for 2004. Both
parties consider this a possible win-win situation."
The AMRA sanctions open wheel modified auto racing in Maryland, Ohio,
Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

"AMRA announces Road Warrior Tour schedule change"
The AMRA Road Warrior Tour "King of the Knob 30" to have been
a part of the
2 day "King of the Knob" race at the Roaring Knob Raceway Park
(Markleysburg, Pa.) has been cancelled.
Citing the unusual and detrimental circumstances the new management group
has encountered in the start up in their inaugeral season, and concerns
over
the newly resurfaced oval, RKRP spokesman Ron Brutt has informed the AMRA
of
the decision.
The season ending show will be scaled back to a one day event, and will
include only the tracks regular classes of cars.
"Roaring Knob's management has overcome extraordinary difficulties
in their
attempts to improve facilities and race this summer. The AMRA regrets
this
decision, but understands the position the track has been put in by the
area's unseasonably wet weather" AMRA president Bill Hayes stated.
"We will look forward to continuing our relationship with Roaring
Knob
Raceway, and have already discussed preliminary dates for 2004 Road Warrior
Tour events with Ron Brutt and the Roaring Knob management".
The next scheduled stop for the 2003 AMRA Road Warrior Tour will be Jim
Nier's KC (Alma, Oh) Raceway Sept. 20th for the "Fall Sizzler 30"
'Todd Robinson wins AMRA Road Warrior Tour 'Roaring Knob Shootout 30'
Todd Robinson didn't lead a lap all night, but was declared the winner
of
Roaring Knob Raceway's AMRA Road Warrior Tour feature when apparent winner
Bobby Kitchen failed to make weight in the post race inspection.
Kitchen, a Columbus, Ohio driver, had dominated the preliminaries for
the
'Roaring Knob Shootout 30' by turning in the fastest qualifying time,
winning his heat as well as the 'Melvin's Automatic Transmissions Dash
for
Cash'.
He then proceeded to lead all 30 laps of the Road Warrior Tour a-main
to
apparently turn in a clean sweep at the imacculate Markleysburg, Pa.
mountaintop oval.
Kitchen's best ally in maintaining the point was the battle for 2nd, as
Robinson and current AMRA Road Warrior Tour point leader Dave Groves traded
the runner-up position countless times in a attention riveting side by
side
battle.
Prior to the post race celebration, a jubilent Kitchen and crew fell somber
when the car fell 30 lbs. short of making minimum weight requirements,
handing the victory to Robinson, who's hard earned win in the battle for
second turned into the South Point, Ohio driver's 2nd Road Warrior Tour
win
of the 2003 season.
Robinson was followed in the official finishing order by Groves, whose
2nd
place finish strengthens his chances of retaining his AMRA RWT championship
title defense.
Vic Vandergrift rallied from a shaky start to the race, charging from
the
tail after an early race spin to a 3rd place finish, and Mark Baylor from
nearby Kingwood, WV earned the 'Advance Auto Parts Hard Charger of the
Race'
award after advancing from his 17th starting position to 4th.
2001 RWT champ Kenny Johnson finished 5th, with positions 6-10 going to
Mark
Dickson, Brian Taft, JR Nolan, Dennis Perigo and Rob Stambaugh respectively.
The AMRA Road Warrior Tour will be in action again Sept. 13th at the Roaring
Knob Raceway for the 'King of the Knob 30'.
The American Motor Racing Association sanctions open wheel modified auto
racing in Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. For more

Todd Robinson wins AMRA Road Warrior Tour "Firecracker 30"
South Point, Ohio's Todd Robinson celebrated the nations birthday with
his
own display of fireworks, winning the 'Firecracker 30', the 4th stop in
the
2003 AMRA Road Warrior Tour's series, Friday night at the Southern Ohio
Speedway.
Robinson avoided a pair of early multi-car accidents, and parlayed his
5th
starting position into a early lead that he would maintain throughout
the 30
lapper.
While Robinson maintained the point, positions changed every lap behind
him,
and the top 5 positions were in doubt until the drop of the checkered
flag.
Finishing 2nd through 5th behind Robinson's # 1c GRT Chassis were Kenny
Johnson, Dave Groves, JR Nolan, and Mark Dickson.

JACOBS, DUNCAN & MYERS SCORE BIG AT WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY
ORRVILLE, OH --- There was wall-to wall racing last Saturday night at
Wayne
County Speedway in Orrville, OH as a jam-packed pit area provided a full
evening of non-stop thrills, spills and chills as Barry Jacobs of Mt.
Vernon, OH came away victorious in the inaugural appearance of the AMRA
sanction Road Warrior Tour for Modifieds in the special "Wayne County
30"
sponsored by Red Ferris Chevrolet and WQKT.
With the drop of the green flag before a standing and cheering crowd,
Barry
Jacobs powered into the lead with Bobby Kitchen and Dave Defibaugh in
hot
pursuit. With the entire field slicing and dicing over the course of the
multi-grooved racing surface, action was slowed for a lap 7 caution for
Chris Dickson. Once racing resumed Jacobs maintained the point while Kitchen
and Defibaugh ran lap after lap side-by-side while Kenny Johnson and Dave
Groves repeated the scenario in a thrilling battle for the fifth position.
As the laps ticked off during the latter stages Jacobs' lead began to
diminish as Defibaugh and Kitchen pulled closer. A lap 24 caution due
to a
five car tangle set up a six lap dash to the finish that saw Jacobs able
to
hang on over a fast-closing Kitchen, Defibaugh, Groves, Mark Dickson,
Greg
Schilling, Johnson, Todd Robinson, Ken Riddle and Darren Smith.
39 AMRA Road Warrior Tour cars were on hand from four states. Winning
heat
races were Jacobs, Defibaugh, Kitchen and Riddle while Vic Vandergrift
scored in both the C Main and B Main.

BARRY JACOBS WINNER OF "SPRING FLING 30"
Mt Vernon, Ohio's Barry Jacobs won the American Motor Racing Associations
inaguarel Road Warrior Tour event of the 2003 season in dramatic style
in
Saturday's "Spring Fling 30" at the Elkins (WV) Speedway.
Local hotshoe and evenings fast qualifier Dave Defibaugh and southern
Ohio
traveller Todd Robinson led the 24 car starting field to the green flag,
with Defibaugh winning the race to the first turn.
Although Defibaugh would hold the lead, his advantage was never more than
3
car lengths as the entire field would remain closely bunched in the battle
for positions.
Most notable were the battles between Jacobs, Robinson and Danny Dean
for
2nd, and the "too close to call", side by side show that Dave
Groves and
Kenny Johnson were waging for the 7th position.
The final of only 4 caution periods on lap 21 set the stage for what would
be one of the closest finishes in AMRA RWT racing history.
With Dean threatening Jacobs hold on 2nd, the current runner-up had to
play
a high speed chess game to advance past leader Defibaugh.
Jacobs rolled alongside Defibaugh on lap 25, but Defibaugh was able to
shut
down Jacobs momentum by moving his line a lane higher.
With 2 laps to go, Jacobs gambled on a low move, diving below leader
Defibaugh at the end of the frontstretch. That move failed, as Jacobs
slide
job attempt failed to clear Defibaughs nose. As the leaders fought to
retain control after the contact, Defibaugh dove below Jacobs to regain
the
lead, and lead the field to the white flag.
With Defibaugh firmly entrenched and defending the low groove, Jacobs
only
move was to try the high side as the leaders raced down the backstretch
and
into turn 3 in a dead heat.
The near capacity crowd rose to it's feet as the final drag race to the
checkered flag saw Jacobs "Central Ohio Fabricators" # 88 win
by less than a
car length.
Defibaugh was 2nd, followed by 9th starting Dean, Robinson and Deck
Defibaugh who rounded out the top 5 finishers
AMRA RWT Notes:

first race of the 2003 season, as well as the Road Warrior Tour's initial
2003 race Saturday May 17th, but an unexpectedly cool, wet spring has
delayed track resurfacing, and hampered construction work.
"Track improvement projects have been delayed, and the Roaring Knob
management wanted to make sure the track surface is up to their standards
before hosting us" AMRA president Bill Hayes stated.
"The management at Roaring Knob has went to a lot of effort and expense
in
this project, and the AMRA appreciates their desire to give not only our
racers, but the fans the best track possible".
The "Tri-State 30", originally scheduled for May 17th, has been
resheduled
for Saturday June 28th.
The AMRA Road Warrior Tour kick-off for the 2003 season now shifts to
the

Groves earns AMRA Road Warrior Tour Championship,
Keplinger takes Hard
Charger title.
Morgantown's Dave Groves and Ellenboro's Dale Keplinger
made it a clean
sweep for the Mountain State, as the two West Virginia drivers claimed
titles on the American Motor Racing Associations 2002 Road Warrior Tour
Series.
Groves, the winner of Road Warrior Tour events at
Lakeville (Oh) and the
West Virginia Motor Speedway, had amassed a point lead so great going
into
the season ending AMRA Nationals, he only needed to start the main event
to
secure the title.
When 2nd place points man, Portsmouth, Ohio's Rick Walker, was unable
to
start the feature, Groves became the sanctions 4th different RWT champion
in
the series 5 year history.
Groves, whose builds his own car as well as many other competitors at
his
"Groves Racing Service" shops, didn't set out to prove his proficiency
as
either a driver or a car builder.
Instead, his game plan for 2002 was much more important.
"My daughters Deanna and Jordan are really into softball, and I wanted
to be
there to support them."
Groves elaborated further, saying: "I've raced for 24 seasons, won
some
track championships (Elkins, I-79, and Bedford, Pa) and just really didn't
want to pursue that anymore. Deanna plays over 100 games in the summer,
and
we could only race a limited amount of times. We looked over the options
and our schedules, and the Road Warrior Tour was what we decided on".
While his own business (Groves operates Melvin's Automatic Transmission
Service, as well as GRS) were primarily the only sponsors for the race
teams 2002 season, Dave also credits Ron Slavic for his attention to
detail for the lettering design the # GRS1 carries.
Groves also is quick to give credit to long time crew member Kevin
Kendall, as well as wife Kim and daughter Deanna who accompany him to
the
Road Warrior tour events as his pit crew. "If it wasn't for Kevin's
dedication, we just wouldn't be able to race our car very often."
Groves also said " We wouldn't even have been in contention if it
had not
have been for a couple of fellow competitors who "loaned" me
their cars."
"We crashed the car in Florida during Speedweeks, and didn't have
time to
fix it right away, so Jr. Nolan and Ray Perkins (both of whom own and
race
Groves Racing Service cars) put me in their cars until I got my own fixed."
In dedicating his efforts to the AMRA's Road Warrior Tour, Groves also
dedicated himself to something far more important: his family.
"My daughter Deanna wants to race, so I'm going to put her in a car
for
next season. Hopefully, we can get her in 4 or 5 Road Warrior Tour shows
next year. We travel to these races as a family, and quite honestly, we
had
more fun doing the Road Warrior Tour than we've had in years."
Dale Keplinger's road to the Road Warrior Tour's
Hard Charger title was
just as unscripted as Grove's story.
After racing for 4 seasons, Keplinger quit in 1992 to start a family and
career.
In the 10 years since, he and wife Melissa have been too busy with work
and raising their children (Dale III, better known as "Trey",
Lindsey,
Drew as well as another child presently on the way) to seriously consider
racing much of a priority.
His transfer to his present position as an Electrical Operations Manager
with Allegheny Power Company landed him back near home, where he and his
father, Dale Sr., started contemplating a return to racing.
"We liked the stability of a sanctioning body, so we decided to try
our
hand with the AMRA modifieds" Keplinger stated.
Purchasing what he jokingly described as "an old, bent up Outlaw
chassis",
Dale, his father, and the crew of Chris Underwood, Eddie Wright and brother
Tom Keplinger went to work getting the # 28 ready to open the 2002 season.
"We had always wanted to travel some, but inconsistent rules had
always
kept us from feeling like we could be competitive" Dale went on to
say.
"I do this out of my pocket, with the help of some friends, so I
have to
be realistic about my equipment as well as the competition".
After failing to make the season opener for the Road Warrior Tour,
Keplinger's team made the remainder of events, and scored "Hard Charger
of
the Race" awards at both West Virginia Motor Speedway races en route
to
easily outdistancing Union, Kentucky's Dave McWilliams for the "Morey
Webdesigns - Hinchman Race Uniforms Hard Charger" title.
"When we started the season, we had a realistic goal to finish in
the top 25
(points) for the Road Warriors, but to finish 6th in the points, and win
this Hard Charger award was really beyond our expectations".
Keplinger continues saying: "We liked the rules and the tech inspection
of
all the cars. The AMRA may be a small organization, but it's ran
professionally."
"I enjoyed seeing some of these tracks for the first time, and then
being a
featured class for the evening, but the camaraderie among the guys that
follow the series was probably the thing we enjoyed best."
"I think we could go to anyone we race with on the RWT, and get whatever
help we needed, and I know that I would do the same for any of them"
Keplinger's ultimate summation of his season should be the goal for every
racer: "This season was the most fun Dad and I ever had racing".
The American Motor Racing Association sanctions
open wheel modified auto
racing in Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

BRUCE DENNIS WINNER OF "AMRA NATIONALS"
Bruce Dennis bested a field of 69 cars in the final AMRA
Road Warrior Tour
event of the year to take home to Lowell, Ohio the winner's prize of
$2000.00 in the WV Lottery AMRA Nationals, held at the West Virginia Motor
Speedway.
Drivers from 7 states attempted to make the starting field of 28 cars
for
the 25 lap feature race.
5 heat races, a C and B main advanced 25 cars to the feature, with 3 AMRA
high point provisional's filling out the final grid positions.
3 days of constant rain prior to the event made for less than ideal track
conditions, and despite the yoeman like efforts of the WVMS staff, the
soft
racing surface was brutal on equipment, as well as wicked fast.
Feature polesitter Todd Robinson jumped to the lead entering turn one
when a
ball joint broke and took him from contention.
When the green flag eventually waved for good, John Burdette outraced
the
field into the first turn to become the initial race leader. The top 6
cars
constantly changed positions, with some drivers making incredible charges
from the rear of the field.
26th starting Norman Aronhalt "stormed" into the top 6 only
to retire with
mechanical problems shortly afterwards.
Dave Groves, who by starting the feature event earned the AMRA Road Warrior
Championship, spun in the early going and retired with problems.
A rash of contenders succumbed to attrition near the half way mark as
leader
John Burdette rolled to his pits.
Rick Hensley looked to be the man to beat as he blasted around the high
groove of the 5/8 mile.
Hensley squeezed between new point man Dennis and the backstretch wall
and
quickly began to pull away from the field.
A caution for yet another top 5 casualty, Kenny Johnson's broken tie rod,
closed the field on Hensley's back bumper with just a handful of laps
to the
checkered. When the field restarted it was apparent Hensley was capable
of
getting his first Road Warrior feature win. Unfortunately for the Oak
Hill,
Ohio racer, his car let his hopes for victory down, as the radiator shook
itself out of the mounts and went into the fan, ending his sterling
performance.
The final restart saw the diminished field of survivors take the final
2
laps.
Dennis never left the high groove, as late race challenger Larry Bond
put
the whip to his mount in an effort to find a way past on the low side.
A car length was all the closer Bond could get, as Bruce Dennis once again
proved to be the master of the WVMS high banks.
Following Dennis and Bond to the finish were 25th starting Dave McWilliams,
and 27th starting Dale Keplinger, the only 4 cars to complete the grueling
25 lapper.
AMRA RWT Notes:
The winner Bruce Dennis had to be helped from the car after inspection,
as
fumes had entered the car due to the floorboards being partially torn
away.
Dennis cleared his lungs and eyes, climbed into a Street Stock car, and
came
within a lap of winning that feature as well. It appeared the only thing
he
couldn't overcome this weekend was a flat tire.
Dave Groves earned his first Road Warrior Tour Championship.
Groves closest challenger, and the only driver with a realistic chance
to
overtake him in the 2002 RWT points, Rick Walker qualified for the AMRA
Nationals feature, only to scratch when his car lost oil pressure prior
to
the feature.
Keith Sansom started the feature as 1st alternate, due to Walker's inability
to start.
Norman Aronhalt (high AMRA Int'l points), Dave McWilliams & Dale Keplinger
(high AMRA RWT points) went into race as provisionals.
Keplinger's advancement of 23 positions padded his points lead and
solidified him as 2002 AMRA RWT season (as well as race) Hard Charger.
Russ Matejka, Greg Schilling, Butch Malone and Larry Kugel were all involved
in violent crashes in the preliminaries. All drivers were able to walk
away.
The top 4 finishers in the heats advanced to the feature, 5th - 9th to
the
b-main, 10th and beyond to the c-main.
Top 3 finishers from c-main advanced to b-main, top 5 finishers from b-main
advanced to Road Warrior Tour Nationals main.
Due to time constraints, the late hour, and track conditions, the feature
was reduced from 30 to 25 laps

Warsaw, Ohio's Norman Aronholt May Want to Look
Into a Change in Vocations
While many Wall Street investors have failed miserably
this year, Aronholt
parlayed the investment of 4 used tires and an old wheel into an American
Motor Racing Association (AMRA) International Championship.
"Stormin Norman", as Aronholt is widely known around the Central
Ohio racing
circuits, traded some old tires and a wheel for a crashed '99 Rayburn
Late
Model chassis, then set out, in his words "to have some fun".
The 42 year old driver and his 4 man crew, each of which are exactly half
of
their driver Aronholt's age, set about building a car from the ground
up.
Aronholts team didn't set out to debunk the usually widely supported theory
that "money = speed", but that's exactly what they did, as they
picked up 12
feature race wins on their way to being crowned AMRA champions in a car
Aronholt says was almost entirely built out of "used stuff".
"The only brand new piece when we built this car was the rear end
housing,
and that was only because I wanted a particular offset".
"Crewchief Mac Rinehart built the motor himself, T J Myer's did our
welding
and fabricating, and John Burchey, Cecil Richards and myself helped with
the
assembly" Aronholt stated.
Aronholt's biggest win of the season came in the 'Balderson Dodge 40'
at the
Muskingum County Speedway, where he had 8 feature wins in 2002.
The road to the title wasn't without a few bumps along the way, though.
The new champion went on to say "after a bad wreck we've straightened
the
car with a bulldozer and dump truck. We even used a couple of graders
one
night at the track to get it straight enough to race. We came from the
back
to a 2nd place finish that night afterwards".
Aronholts distinctive "Phantom 309" car number comes from his
insistance at
age 8 that his father and his friends number their race car with country
singer Red Sovine's ballad name, and the number has stuck with him ever
since.
Aronholt's 2002 season sponsors include 'The Arthurs Co.', 'Gress Oil
Co.',
'Raincatchers Seamless Gutters', 'Dreyer Auto Center', 'State Representative
Jim Aslendies', 'Lovejoy Mansonry' (all of Coshocton, Oh) 'Starburst
Graphics' (Newark) and Aronholt Excavating of Warsaw, Ohio.
The 27 year veteran of racing may have summed it up best when he said
"Our
goal this season was to have fun. It's a hobby, and sometimes in the past
I
think we put too much pressure on ourselves to succeed. This year we just
wanted to cover our expense of getting to the races, and enjoy ourselves
doing it."
Mission accomplished.
The 2002 AMRA Rookie of the Year, Waverly WV's
Butch Malone, Was a Rookie in
the Truest Sense
The 2002 AMRA Rookie of the Year, Waverly WV's Butch Malone,
was a rookie in
the truest sense of the word when the 2002 racing season began.
With barely a few races in the street stock division under his belt from
the
previous season, Malone, along with co-owner's Wes & Sabrina Brothers
(Malone's sister and brother-in-law), prepared a '99 BRC Chassis to make
a
run at the AMRA R.O.Y. title.
Operating out of friend Larry Corbitt's garage, the crew which includes
John
Brothers, Corbitt, Dave Hackathorn, Jay Wagner, Jason Claypool, engine
builder Jr McFarland, and sons Bucky & Robbie worked long hour massaging
a
chassis that few in this area are familiar with.
In addition, Malone was still rehabilitating from painful burns he had
suffered the previous fall.
Like any first year team, there were flashes of brilliance (heat race
wins,
leading features with strong finishes) along with bitter disappointments.
"We were down with motor problems for 4 weeks in the middle of the
season"
Butch said. "That slowed our progress down".
Ultimately, the teams determination prevailed, as they made races at 6
different AMRA sanctioned tracks on the way to earning the 'Rookie of
the
Year' honors.
At 36 years old, Malone might be a bit older than many of his rookie
competitors, but says this year was "really good; I always wanted
a chance
to carry the checkered flag, and I got the opportunity to do it this year."
Malone's sponsors include 'LAD Trucking' of Blacksville, WV, Signs 4 Less,
JPE Hardwoods, Larry Corbitt, Billy Jo & Wanda Hammett and "the
support of
both of our parents."
"We'll be back in 2003, either in this car with some updates or another
BRC
Chassis. We can't wait!"

"Thunder On The Yough 30"
Roaring Knob Raceway 9/14/02
The Roaring Knob Raceway in Markleysburg, Pa. hosted the
latest stop on the
2002 American Motor Racing Association's "Road Warrior Tour"
schedule with
their annual season ending "King of the Knob" event.
AMRA modified drivers from 5 states attempted to qualify for the 24 car
field.
3 qualifying heat races, which transfered 5 drivers each into the "Thunder
On The Yough 30", saw Ohio's Aaron Morey, WV's Dave Groves, and Ky's
Dave
McWilliams garner individual honors.
The 30 lap "Road Warrior Tour" main started with a bang, as
a turn 4 miscue
near the front of the field necessitated a complete restart, but beyond
that
point was slowed only twice more for individual spins.
Morey led from the outset, putting his pole starting position to good
use,
but the battles in his rear view mirror had the fans attention.
Paul Wilmoth, doing double duty in his own Late Model as well as J.R.
Nolan's AMRA modified, was working his way to the front of the pack from
his
6th place starting position.
As Wilmoth rim-rode the cushion of the beautifully prepared 3/8 mile,
John
Burdette was staking his claim to the bottom of the track in an effort
to
improve on his 7th place starting spot.
The laps evaporated, but Lewis Center, Ohio's Aaron Morey never wilted
from
the heat, and led the trio to the checkered flag by a 2 car length
advantage.
Following Morey to the stripe were Wilmoth, Burdette, Dave Groves and
Larry
Kugel, who rounded out the top 5.
AMRA Road Warrior Tour Notes:
Morey backs up his 1st career AMRA RWT win from 2 weeks prior at KC (Oh)
Speedway and in doing so becomes joins Danny Dean as the 2nd back to back
winner this season.
Carthage Auto Parts of Cincinatti, Ohio presented trophies to the top

AMRA president Bill Hayes recently released an
dditional date in the AMRA's
2002 Road Warrior Tour schedule.
Jim Nier, successful veteran sprint car driver, and currently
the new owner
of the "KC Raceway" near Chillicothe, Ohio, has inked a contract
to host a
Road Warrior event dubbed the "KC Shootout 30".
Originally known as the Atomic Speedway (due to it's proximity to nearby
munitions factories during the tracks "cold war" era infancy),
the KC
Raceway is nationally known as one of the temples of speed to the open
wheel
worshippers.
An ultra-high banked 3/8 mile, the track has successfully launched careers
of racers who have went on to become household names to fans everywhere.
The Nier's first year of ownership of the track where Jim made his #00
sprinter a victory lane regular has been nothing short of impressive.
"The AMRA is thrilled with the opportunity to bring our traveling
Road
Warrior Tour series to the KC Raceway" said AMRA president Bill Hayes.
"This will be our first ever appearance at the KC Raceway, and our
members
are excited about the chance to compete at a track with so much history,
and
such knowledgeable open wheel fans. The tracks configuration is so
conducive to exciting side by side racing that we anticipate this to be
a
memorable show for both the competitors as well as the fans."
"The AMRA's hat is off to the Neir's forward thinking promotional
approach,
and we look forward to a continuing working relationship with Jim and
the KC
Raceway and it's staff" Hayes concluded.
The "KC Shootout 30" is scheduled for Saturday night August
31st.
KC Raceway is located on Blain Highway, west off State Route 23, between
Chillicothe & Waverly Ohio. Track phone (740) 663-4141 or 663-4143

Interstate 79 Speedway near Shinnston, WV to Host
the AMRA Road Warrior Tour
Friday night, June 21st, the Interstate 79 Speedway near
Shinnston, WV will
host the AMRA Road Warrior Tour's third event of the 2002 season.
This will be the Road Warrior Tours third stop in 2 years at Mark Richards
and Steve Baker's immaculate track that sits just off Interstate 79 near
the
Saltwell exit, between Bridgeport and Fairmont WV.
In the 2002 Road Warrior events, Morgantown WV's Dave Groves picked up
a
hard earned victory in the 2nd race, but it was the inaugural event that
had
many fans calling it "the race of the year".
Benny Hickel and Kenny Johnson went wheel to wheel for the last half of
the
30 lap race before Johnson wrestled the lead away with a lap to go, then
held off the high flying Hickel to win by a half a car length.
Johnson, Groves, Hickel, and others such as 2 time RWT champ John Burdette,
and local competitors Brent Trimble, Louie Krushansky and Vic Vandergrift
will all be trying to derail the seemingly unstoppable veteran Danny Dean,
who has won both the Lakeville and Pennsboro 2002 Road Warrior Tour
events.
Upcoming Road Warrior Tour events will see the AMRA's traveling series
at
Dave Landrum's Jackson Co.(Oh) Speedway on Friday July 5th, then head
north
up I-77 to Mineral Wells (WV) for a Saturday night July 6th show at Pat
Minnite's West Virginia Motor Speedway.

Lakeville (Ohio) Speedway to Host the Second Stop
on the AMRA 2002 Road Warrior Tour
The Lakeville (Ohio) Speedway will host the second stop
on the American
Motor Racing Association's 2002 Road Warrior Tour on Friday, June 7th.
This will be the first appearance ever (as well as the
first of 2 for the
2002 season) for the AMRA's Road Warrior Tour at promoter Bob Schippers
historic Northern Ohio track.
The June 7th program will be an open wheel fans dream,
as in addition to the
featured AMRA RWT, the track will also present a program including 360
sprints, Outlaw Midgets, as well as mini modifieds and dwarf cars.
Long time fans of the Lakeville Speedway (a track which
helped launch
careers for such famous names as Tim Richmond, Brad Doty, Kenny Jacobs
and
many others) will also enjoy the "old Timers Night" where former
drivers,
car owners, crews and track employees will be in attendance, courtesy
of
Custom Exhaust Systems.
The winner of the AMRA RWT's opening event of the 2002
season was Mt.
Vernon, Ohio's Danny Dean, besting a field of 43 cars.
Dean, along with defending 2001 RWT champion Kenny ("the
Southside Flyer")
Johnson, 2 time RWT champ John Burdette and large host of the Stars and
Cars
of AMRA's Road Warrior Tour are ready to take up Lakesville Speedway's
invitation to "Come Play in Ohio Clay".
It will be a night for memories, as well as one to remember
as the AMRA
takes the second step in determining who will be the 2002 Road Warrior
Champion.
Danny Dean wins "Pennsboro 30" AMRA Road
Warrior Tour Event
Mount Vernon, Ohio's Danny Dean put his name in the Pennsboro
(WV) Speedway
record book yet again by winning the 2002 season opener for the American
Motor Racing Association's Road Warrior Tour Series.
Dean, who was winning races at the "Darlington of
Dirt" before some of his
fellow competitors were even born, once again found a familiar friend
in the
egg shaped 1/2 mile fairgrounds track.
Qualifications were indicative of how the days events
would unfold, as Dean
bested the field of 42 entrants, went on to win the first of 5 qualifying
heat races, then ran off from the field in the Road Warrior Tour feature.
The 30 lap event was slowed only twice for cautions, the
first of which was
for Mark Baylor's 2nd turn spin.
The second caution on lap 18 insured victory for Dean.
