Clayton Miller wins the UMP Open Wheel Season Championship

That’s right fans it’s the Open Wheels night to shine, with their season championship trophy on the line. During qualifying Chris Rickett, who is challenging our local driver David Flowers for Tennessee State Open Wheel Title set the fast time. His time was 13.779 sec. Late Model qualifying fast time went to Chuck Proctor with a time of 12.517 sec. All six drivers in the fast six dash were under the 13.000 sec barrier. That to me says one fast track tonight. Pro Street fast time went to Larry Hamm with a time of 14.521 sec.
In heat race action the Street Stock division came out first Doris McCord won heat race number one, the second heat race went to Dale Phillips and heat three went to Daniel Phillips.
Open Wheel fast six dash went to Curtis Rodenhader who was the fourth fastest qualifier, heat race one went to the fan voted Most Popular Driver for 2003 of Mike Sweeney, and heat two was won by Wally Walker.
Late Model Fast six dash went to Tony Albright, then after leading heat race two until the white flag Ralph Wiles pulled off the track after throwing a drive shaft, leaving Richard Frost to take the win, and then in heat race two we watched as Gary Johnson took a rather large lead to victory lane.
In Pro Street fast six dash it was Brian Caudle taking the checkered flag. Heat one went to Jeff Murphy and heat two went to Jeff Hamm.
Michael Rittenberry took heat race one in the Mini Modified Division, and Ronnie Richardson took heat race two.
At intermission time there was a meet and greet with the Open Wheels on the front stretch and that’s where the announcement was made that Mike Sweeney had won the Most Popular driver of the year in that class. The cars stayed on the track as they were the first feature to be ran tonight.
After Chris Rickett in the 1 car broke on lap 11, Clayton Miller who had been battling with David Flowers on every lap, took over the lead and finished out the race on top.

DOUBLE FEATURES this coming weekend because of the rain for all except the Open Wheels. So if you wanted to come out to the races this coming weekend is the best weekend to come out, double the racing for the price of one.

UMSA and Albright treat the fans to some good racing

The United Mini Sprint Association came into town tonight to display their talent at both driving and the experience of the “WING”.  Gary Frost F14 was the first and only driver to break into the 12-second bracket for the UMP Late Models with a time of 12.992.  While the Open Wheels fast time was set by Mike Sweeney 25S who was the first car out to begin the night of qualifying with a time of 14.629.  In Pro Street qualifying it was Matt Potter in the 64 setting quick pace with a time of 15.220.  Top five qualifiers list below:

Before we could get to this weeks action we had to finish a feature from last weekend for the Mini Stocks in which the 54 of Don Donegan took the victory.

The very first feature race of the night after a short meet and greet with the Mini Sprint guys was the UMSA Mini Sprints 25 lap feature.  The wings blew the dust right off the track, but that did not maker too much difference the crowd and the employees enjoyed the open wheeled, winged action that they provided. They put on an awesome show for being about half the size of the outlaws.  Top ten results are below:

Providing the awesome power display was the 1 car of Tony Albright, finally getting back to victory lane after having some troubles for the past few weekends.  Another good 20 laps of racing, even though the car count is down the excitement these guys are providing is as good as anywhere in the country.

Dorris McCord in the 45 was found to be legal after the officials pulled his intake after finishing first in the Street Stock division.  There is always something to grip about in this division for the drivers, but they can if they try offering some awesome racing back in the pack.

With only three weekends left and two championship races to decide the tension is getting tight for all involved in the action every week here at the speedway. Thank you to the fans for coming out and watching the action.  Hope to see you all this coming weekend where the UMP Open Wheels are after their Season Championship, and double points.
