NEW EGYPT MARKS LONE ADVANCE AUTO
SDS RACE IN GARDEN STATE
WEEDSPORT,NY.....Recognized as one of the
most competitive circuits on the East coast today, the Advance
Auto Parts Modified Super DIRT Series is ready to make it's
only stop of the season in New Jersey.
New Egypt Speedway hosts the fifth event along the premier
big-block DIRT Modified tour when Haldeman Ford presents
the 'Garden State Gunfight' on June 20. Both pit and spectator
gates open at 4 p.m., practice starts at 6:30, JE Piston
Time Trials begin at 7 o'clock and qualifying heats go off
the line at 7:45.
The Thursday night showdown marks the fourth appearance
of the mighty DIRT Modifieds at promoters Rick and Nancy
Grosso's popular semi-banked clay oval. Billy Decker captured
the 100-lap Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series main event
last summer, homestate favorite Billy Pauch won in 2000
and DIRT Motorsports' all-time big-block win leader Bob
McCreadie copped the inaugural race in 1998.
Decker forged the final lead change on lap 31 in last year's
century grind, battling early pace-setters Pauch and second-generation
standout Tim McCreadie before claiming the $6,000 top prize.
Delaware invader Ricky Elliott bested an all-star field
of 59 open-wheel entries in time trials, stopping the clocks
at 18.240 seconds for an average one-lap speed of 98.684
mph around the enlarged half-miler.
Twenty-seven (29 races) events make up the 2002 Advance
Auto Parts SDS agenda with 19 extra-distance features taking
place inside New York State. The Canadian provinces of Ontario
and Quebec join Pennsylvania (2), Maryland, North Carolina,
Ohio and New Jersey are locales for the remaining eight
shows.
With the annual Advance Auto event originally scheduled
for June 6 at Orange County Fair Speedway and postponed
due to rain until August 1, two-time Mr. DIRT champion Alan
Johnson tops the current SDS points chart. The Phelps, N.Y.
legend is followed by a new, younger breed of pilots led
by Tim Fuller, Tim McCreadie(2 wins), Vic Coffey and Gary
Tomkins(2), with veterans Danny Johnson, Steve Paine, Decker
and Brett Hearn(1) chasing farther behind.
The Northeast's top travelers will have to take on New Egypt's
best, including points leader Pauch, Keith Hoffman, Darren
McCaughey, Kenny Brightbill and Frank Cozze.

DIRT Series throughout the season by logging into www.dirtmotorsports.com.
