STUHLER $10,000 RICHER AFTER TURBO-BLUE HUB-CITY NATIONAL 150 WIN
Gary Stuhler of Greencastle, PA took the lead from Todd Andrews on the
12th lap and never looked back as he recorded his second straight Turbo-Blue
Hub-City National 150 win at the Hagerstown Speedway Sunday afternoon.
Stuhler
earned $10,000 for his eighth win of the year.
"I knew I had to get to the front there at the beginning before
it became
a one-lane deal," said Stuhler, the 2003 Hagerstown ITSI late model
champion.
"Todd (Andrews) really raced me clean. I had to really slow up there
at the
end to make it on the tires. I am lucky that we made it. This is the same
crew,
the same car that I won this race with last year."
In other action, Marvin Winters of McConnellsburg, PA scored his first
win in the 25-lap open competition Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic late model
sportsman feature and Dean Holmes notched his fourth win in the 20-lap
Ernie's
Salvage Yard pure stock main event on Saturday afternoon.
Gary Stuhler started fourth in the 30-car field as Todd Andrews took the
lead from the outside pole at the drop of the green. DJ. Myers followed
in
second with Stuhler on his bumper. Stuhler made the first move passing
Myers for
second on the third lap and tracked down Andrews to pull even with the
leader
on lap nine. Stuhler and Andrews raced side-by-side for the next two laps
before Stuhler slipped underneath of Andrews for the lead on lap 12. Once
in
front, Stuhler pulled away and was putting the slower cars a lap down
on lap 16 as
Andrews closed in on Stuhler in lapped traffic on lap 19. Using the slower
cars to his advantage, DJ Myers passed Andrews for second three laps later
on lap
22. The top three of Stuhler, Myers and Andrews pulled away from the field
with Myers dropping out on lap 47 with mechanical problems while running
second.
At the 50-lap mark and the first fuel stop, the top ten were Stuhler,
Andrews, Davey Johnson, Jeremy Miller, Tom Myers, Les Hare, Devin Friese,
Rob Blair
and Chub Frank.
Stuhler led the field for the second third of the National 150 with
Andrews right behind. By the 63rd lap, Stuhler was again in lapped traffic.
On lap
73, Davey Johnson brought out the caution with a flat tire while running
third. Stuhler kept a comfortable margin over Andrews as the top five
drivers
stayed in line with Stuhler reaching the second fuel stop without any
serious
challenges. At the end of 100 laps, it was Stuhler, Andrews, Miller, T.
Myers,
Friese, Frank, Hare, Mike Balzano, Alan Sagi and Scott Haus.
Stuhler showed no signs of fading as the green dropped for the final
50
laps as Andrews stayed within striking distance. By lap 117, Stuhler had
opened
a 10 car length lead over Andrews, but with 25 laps remaining Andrews
had
pulled back within one car length of the leader. Stuhler then opened another
10
car length lead and was never seriously challenged the final 10 laps as
he
picked up the win. Andrews settled for second with Miller, Tom Myers and
Friese
rounding out the top five. Fourteenth starting Frank was sixth with Kenny
Pettyjohn coming from 22nd for seventh. Haus and Hare were next with 18th
starting
Sagi completing the top ten.
On Saturday afternoon, forty-four cars took time trials with the second
car of Travis Dillman on the track for qualifying setting fast time of
21.004
seconds. Two-time Hub-City winner Andrews was the 11th car to tour the
half-mile oval for two laps under the clock and was able to set second
fastest time of
21.171 seconds. Heat winners were DJ Myers, Stuhler, Tim Wilson and Miller.
Dan Stone won the B-Main.
In the 25-lap late model sportsman feature, Marvin Winters started third
as Rusty Sites took the lead from pole-sitter Dennis Lamb on the second
lap.
Richard Walls worked his way into second on the sixth lap as Sites began
to put
the slower cars a lap down on lap eight. Lap by lap Sites increased his
lead
as Walls was holding off Winters for second. On lap 20, Sites car went
up in
smoke causing Walls to slow enough for Winters to slip by for the lead
right
before the caution was waved for Al Shawver Sr. With Winters the new leader
on
the restart, Walls was unable to make any serious challenges the final
five
laps and had to settled for second. Brian Miller was third with Steve
Bailar and
Terry Lescalleet finishing out the top five. Johnny Smith was next with
Barry
Lear Sr. coming from 21st for seventh. Lamb, Ty Shatzer and Steve Haight
completed the top ten. Heat winners for the 35 cars were Lamb, Sites,
Winters and
Lescalleet. Lear won the B-Main.
In Saturday's 20-lap pure stock feature, 2003 pure stock champion Dean
Holmes started back in sixth as Mark Jones grabbed the lead from the pole.
Holmes was in second by the third lap as Mike Warrenfeltz made his way
into second
on the eighth lap. As the caution was waved on the 11th lap, Warrenfeltz
and
Jones made contact as they slowed going into the first turn. With both
cars
coming to a stop, Holmes inherited the lead for the restart. On the restart
Alan
Stone made contact with Chris Sumption to bring out another caution ending
Sumtion's drive to the front. With Eugene Conlee now on his bumper, Holmes
was
able to pull away on the restart and led the rest of the way for the win.
Mike
Warrenfeltz came back through the field to edge out Conlee for the runner-up
spot. Stone was fourth with Hans Stamberg rounding out the top five. Heat
winners for the 14 cars were Sumption and Mike Sanders.
On Saturday, October 11th, the Hagerstown Speedway will hosts its second
annual race car and parts flea market from 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. Admission
is $1.00
and tables are $10.00

ISABEL POSTPONES TURBO-BLUE HUB-CITY NATIONAL 150 TO SEPT 27-28
Hurricane Isabel made its mark on the Hagerstown Speedway Thursday night
and Friday morning leaving the speedway without electricity for the start
of the Turbo-Blue Hub-City National 150. With light showers, a soaked
infield and the possibility of power not coming back until the next day,
Promoter Frank Plessinger has postponed the longest race of the year for
the ITSI late models until next weekend, Saturday and Sunday afternoon,
September 27th & September 28th.
"We thought we would have a chance to get the program in,"
said Promoter Plessinger. "But with no electricity and the forecast
of more showers into the evening, we decided to postpone the Hub-City
now instead of waiting any longer. The weather this season has been the
worse in the track’s 56 year history. This is the 15th time this
year we had to either cancel or postpone a race. We are getting into the
special fall events and rescheduling a big two-day program like the Hub-City
becomes a problem. We know that the Renegade Dirt Racing Series will be
at Winchester Speedway next weekend and have been in touch with Promoter
Timmons. We have assured him that the late models will have time to make
his Winchester 200 on Saturday evening."
The Hub-City National 150 will begin on Saturday afternoon, September
28th at 12 noon with warm-ups for the ITSI late models. The late models
will have times trials and qualifying heats immediately following warm-ups
with the Ernie’s Salvage Yard having a complete program of qualifying
and feature events after the late models are done. Gates will open at
10 A.M.
On Sunday, September 28th, warm-ups begin at 1 P.M. followed by a B-Main
for the late models and a complete program of qualifying and feature events
for the late model sportsman. Rounding out the two day program will be
the 150-lap Hub-City National 150 paying $10,000 to the winner. Entries
for the Hub-City National 150 are still being accepted. Entry Fee is $75
in advance, $100 day of race.

Jason Sarvis Gets Win in Regular Season Race
NEWTON - Jason Sarivs was able to pass Michael Ritch on lap 227 and held
off a hard charging Clay Rogers to win the Miller Lite 250 presented by
Tucson Saturday night at Hickory Motor Speedway. Sarvis, the defending USAR
Hooters ProCup Series National Champion, was able to keep his Ford low on
the track to pass Ritch and collect his second win of the season and sixth
overall in the Series.
"I can't say enough about the Black's Tire Service team," said
Sarvis. "We brought out a new car and they worked hard to get us ready
tonight and I appreciate the team giving me a chance to drive this car and
I am happy with the win. Now we can prepare for the Championship Series
and have some mometum going into next week."
Ritch rebounded to finish third while Shane Huffman finished fourth and
Bobby Gill completed the top five. Huffman, who has already clinched the
number one seed form the Southern Division going into the first Championship
Series race next Saturday at Winchester Speedway, was pleased with his 11th
top-five finish in 12 races in division action this year.
"We didn't have the best car tonight but we used pit stops and patience
to get back in the top five tonight," said Huffman. "Now we can
focus on getting ready for Winchester next week."
Danny O'Quinn, Jr. rebounded from a lap down to finish sixth with Mike Herman,
Jr. in seventh. Mart Nesbitt finished eighth with Adam Dean and Mike Laughlin,
Jr. ninth and tenth, respectively.
Former Hickory Motor Speedway regular Jimmy McClain finished 11th, the final
car on the lead lap.
The race was slowed 16 times by caution with 11 cars finishing on the lead
lap.
Huffman finished the regular season with five wins and enters as on of the

LAST POINT RACE CANCELED AT HAGERSTOWN - STUHLER 2003 LATE MODEL CHAMP
For the 14th time this season, the Hagerstown Speedway has been a victim
of foul weather. Rain moved into the area Friday night and did not move
out in
the morning as was forecasted. Lingering showers throughout Saturday
afternoon finally forced Promoter Frank Plessinger to throw in the towel
and cancel
Saturday's Fan Appreciation Night.
The rain, which has plagued the speedway all season, put a damper on
what
promised to be a very exciting end to the point races in all three divisions.
With the cancellation, the point leaders going into tonight's race are
the
official 2003 champions.
Gary Stuhler, who only needed to start Saturday's race to claim his
second track title, is the 2003 ITSI late model champion. The Greencastle
PA driver
had a outstanding year winning seven features and increasing his career
win
total to 109, just five behind the leader, Rodney Franklin. Finishing
second in
points to Stuhler was Andy Anderson with one win. In third place was Frankie
Plessinger who had another top five season. Finishing out the top five
were D
J Myers and Doug Burkholder.
The Hoosier Tires late model sportsman division's battle for the track
championship went right down to the last race with Richard Walls of St.
Thomas
edging out Larry Baer by just 15 points. Walls had three wins enroute
to his
first late model sportsman championship. Following Walls and Baer were
Barry
Miller, Dave Rice Jr. and Bud Witmer.
The Ernie's Salvage Yard pure stocks was even closer with Dean Holmes
of
Cross Junction winning by only five points over Eugene Conlee of Hanover,
MD.
Both drivers exchanged the top position near the end of the season, but
Holmes
came on strong at the end for his first championship. Following Holmes
and
Conlee were Hans Stamberg, Kenny Dillon and Frank Dibella.
The Hagerstown Speedway will be back in action on Friday and Saturday
nights, June 19th & 20th for the Turbo-Blue Racing Gasolines Hub-City
National
150. Friday night it will be qualifying time trials and heats for the
ITSI late
models and a complete program for the pure stocks. On Saturday, it will
be a
complete program for the late model sportsman and the 150-lapper for the
late
models. Race time each night is 7:30 P.M.

"I am sorry to see this happen to the Number 98 (Long), but I will
take
the win," said Long after the race. The win was Holmes third of the
year and
moved him back on top in the tight battle for the track championship with
one
race remaining.
Barry Miller of Three Springs, PA came on strong at the end to score
his
first win in the 20-lap Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman
feature and Mark Vegh of Frederick lapped the field to dominate the 75-lap
enduro.
In the Tommy Thompson Memorial demolition Derby, John Pittman of
McConnellsburg, PA outlasted 24 other cars for the bang-up win.
Ronnie Dennis grabbed the lead from the pole in the pure stock
championship while Holmes started back in tenth. Dennis looked strong
until his motor
went up in smoke on the second lap turning the lead over to Wayne Hawbaker.
Steve Long, who started sixth, moved into second on lap four and a lap
later had
the lead. Holmes moved into the top five on the seventh lap and two laps
later
was on Long's bumper battling for the lead. With five laps remaining,
Holmes
passed Long for the lead, but Long came right back before the lap was
complete
to maintain the edge. Long held off Holmes for the win, but was found
to have
a illegal carburetor in post race inspection turning the win over to Holmes.
Following Holmes was Jim Snyder with Eugene Conlee finishing third for
the A&C
Engines Hard Charger Award. Rick Stouffer was next, but was also disqualified
for carburetor infraction turning fourth over to Hans Stamberg. Mike Sanders,
Hawbaker, Frank Dibella, Greg Hockensmith, Pete Gems and Bill Reitober
completed the top ten. Heat winners for the 18 cars were Dennis and Long.
In the late model sportsman feature, Mike Walls took the early lead
from
the outside pole with Paul Ward and Eric Ohler in pursuit. Travis Beaver
moved
into the runner-up spot on the second lap as 10th starting Barry Miller
broke
into the top five on the seventh lap. After battling with Ohler for several
laps, Miller moved into third on the 14th lap and started tracking down
the
leaders. On lap 18, Miller passed Beaver for second and a lap later on
lap 19,
grabbed the lead from Walls. Miller pulled away the final lap for the
win and
the St. Thomas Towing Hard Charger Award. Mike Walls settled for second
with
Beaver, Ohler and Al Shawver Sr making up the top five. Finishing out
the top ten
were Richard Walls, Bud Witmer, Pete Weaver, Brian Miller and Kirk Baker.
Weaver, Witmer and Beaver were the heat winners for the 30 cars and Chet
Gagdvon
won the consolation.
Mark Vegh started fourth in the 38-car enduro field and by the end of
the
first lap he had the lead. Vegh drove a flawless race as he lapped every
car
en route to the win and $800 in the non-stop 75 lap event. Steve Thompson
Jr.
came from 19th for second with Larry Hurley and Kenny Thomas next with
across
the line. Charlie Pennsinger coming from 35th to round out the top five.
John Pittman got banged around in the early going of the demolition
derby, but somehow manage to outlast the field to win the Tommy Thompson
Championship Enduro and $500. Jeremy Doyl, James Gress, Tracy Abbott and
Emile Fevillet
rounded out the top five.
Next Saturday, September 13th, it will be the final
points race of the
year for the ITSI late models, late model sportsman and pure stocks. It
will be
Fan Appreciation Country Music Festival day at Hagerstown with festivities

FAN APPRECIATION COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL AND FINAL POINT RACES NEXT AT
HAGERSTOWN
HAGERSTOWN, MD - It will be the 1st Annual Fan Appreciation Country
Music Festival at the Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday, September 13th.
The Country Music Festival begins at 10 A.M. and will feature the great
country music of One Lane Bridge, Cumberland Highway, Possum Holler and
J.R. Booker bands live on stage until 5 P.M. Following the music, the
ITSI late models, Hoosier Tires/Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman and
Ernie’s Salvage Yard pure stocks battle it out in the final point
races of the year. The track championships will be on the line for all
three classes. Warn-ups will begin at 7:00 P.M. with racing at 7:30 P.M.
General Admission to the entire day of live entertainment is $15.00 for
adults for both the Country Music Festival and the triple-header racing
program. If you can’t make the music festival, grandstand general
admission for the stock car racing program only is only $6.00 with children
under 12 FREE. The country music concert will take place rain or shine.
Tickets are now on sale at the speedway office.
All three classes will go down to the final lap on Saturday night. In
the late model division, Gary Stuhler of Greencastle, PA has been on top
all season and has built up a comfortable 172 point lead over Andy Anderson.
All Stuhler has to do is start the 25-lap main event to secure his second
track championship. The battle for third is very close with only one point
separating third place Frankie Plessinger and fourth place D J Myers.
Doug Burkholder is only 31 points back in fifth.
The point standings changed dramatically the past two weekends for the
late model sportsman division. Larry Baer of Dover, PA has moved in front
of Richard Walls, but only 10 points separate the two drivers. Barry Miller
is third and still has a good chance 71 points back. Dave Rice Jr. and
Terry Lescallett round out the top five. Even with a point race this weekend,
the points battle will go down to the final lap on Fan Appreciation night.
The battle in the pure stock division is far from over. Like the other
three divisions, the championship will not be determined until Saturday
although the pure stocks have a 20-lap double point championship the week
before. Eugene Conlee of Hanover is back on top with a slim 15 point lead
over Dean Holmes. Hans Stamburg is third only 26 points back with Kenny
Dillon and Steve Long completing the top five.

MCBEE/HAYS MEMORIAL NEXT AT HAGERSTOWN
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Promoter Frank Plessinger will present the 18th Annual
Ronnie McBee/Ron Hays Memorial at the Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday
night, August 30th . Adult admission is only $10 for the extra distance
ITSI late model feature with children under 12 FREE. Race time is 7:30
P.M. with gates opening at 5 P.M. The 44-lap memorial will pay $2,500
to the winner.
The 44-lap McBee Memorial is held each year to pay tribute to one of
the top late model drivers who ever competed at the Hagerstown Speedway
and to his car owner Ron Hays. McBee was killed in a job-related accident
in 1986. In addition to being track champion at Hagerstown in 1978 &
1979, McBee won late model championships at several area tracks including
Lincoln and Williams Grove Speedways. In his 13 year career, McBee won
162 features at 12 tracks. In 1984, McBee was the winningest late model
driver in the northeast. His final win was at Hagerstown in the Conococheague
100 while driving the Ron Hays #44.
Hays was one of the winningest car owners in the area with drivers like
Sam Nalley, Kenny Brightbill, McBee and Gary Stuhler. Hays passed away
three years ago after a long illness and the race became a memorial event
for both men.
The McBee/Hays Memorial carries an increase in purse and double points
for the ITSI late models. Seven-time feature winner Gary Stuhler of Greencastle,
PA has a 188 point lead over Andy Anderson and a win in the double point
memorial race would go along way in his bid for his second title. Doug
Burkholder is third with Frankie Plessinger and DJ Myers rounding out
the top five. Only nine points separate Burkholder from Myers.
Past winners of the McBee Memorial include Buddy Armel, John Mason, Denny
Bonebrake, Rodney Franklin, DJ Myers, Gary Stuhler and Rick Workman. Stuhler,
Denny Bonebrake and Rodney Franklin lead all drivers with three McBee/Hays
Memorial wins. Myers, a two-time winner, is the defending race champion.
Joining the late models will be the Hoosier Tires late model sportsman
and the Ernie’s Salvage Yard pure stocks.

DAVEY JOHNSON WINS CONOCOCHEAGUE 100 AND $10,000 AT HAGERSTOWN
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Davey Johnson of Greensburg, PA made an inside move on
race-long leader Bart Hartman on the 65th lap for the lead and never looked
back as
he won the 22nd Annual Conococheague 100 at the Hagerstown Speedway Saturday
night. Johnson earned $10,000 for his third Renegade Dirtcar Racing Series
win
of the year and 50th of his carrer.
"We finally found the right combination", stated the very
happy driver of
the Reliable Painting/Carrera Shocks/John Wayne Truck Wash No. 19J Beitler
Enterprises MasterSbilt Race Cars/Malcuit Racing Engines Pontiac Grand
Prix. "We
have struggled here this year at Hagerstown and it seemed like we threw
everything at it before and it wouldn't work. But, tonight the set-up
was just
perfect. We had the harder 55's on and I knew the longer the race went
and the
blacker the track got the better off we would be. It worked out and I'm
glad for
everyone on this team. This was a total team win tonight. We feel pretty
good
now as we get into the big races at the end of the season."
In the 20-lap Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman summer
championship, point leader Richard Walls of St. Thomas, PA recorded his
third win
of the year
Davey Johnson started on the pole and before a lap was complete a caution
was waved for debris from outside pole-sitter Bart Hartman's car as he
was
pinched up against the outside guard rail on the backstretch. Minus a
right
front fender, Hartman rejoined the 26-car field along side pole-sitter
Johnson and
took the lead at the drop of the green. Johnson, Chub Frank, Earl Pearson
and
Todd Andrews immediately set their sights on the leader as Frank moved
into
second on the 25th lap and by lap 35 Hartman was putting the slower cars
a lap
down. When the red flag was waved at half-way for the fuel-stop, Hartman
had a
commanding lead over Frank, Johnson, Pearson, Steve Shaver, Jeremy Miller,
Gary Stuhler, Andrews, Andy Anderson and Tom Myers.
Hartman set the pace on the restart as Johnson passed Frank for second.
Having trouble keeping the car off the high cushion, Hartman was unable
to open
any lead like he maintained in the first half of the race as Johnson kept
the
pressure on the leader. On lap 65, Johnson moved underneath of the leader
for
the lead when Hartman came off the fourth turn high on the cushion. Keeping
the car up front the final 35 laps, Johnson pulled away to a convincing
win in
the Dale Beitler Reliable Painting Mastersbuilt chassis #19. RDRS points
leader and three-time defending champion Frank settled for second with
Hartman
third. Shaver and Stuhler rounded out the top five. Jim Bernheisel came
from 16th
for sixth with Pearson, Miller, 20th starting DJ Myers and Tom Myers
completing the top ten. Heat winners for the 37 cars were Andrews, Stuhler,
Frank and
Shaver. D.J. Myers and John Mason won the B-Mains. Hartman won the dash
and
Andrews set fast time of 18.906 seconds.
In the late model sportsman feature, Richard Walls started 12th as Mike
Walls took the lead from the outside pole. Before the second lap was completed,
Rusty Sites and Paul Ward made some contact as they entered the third
turn
scattering cars everywhere to bring out the red flag. Eleven cars were
in the
pile-up with six cars unable to return for the restart. Brian Miller put
the
pressure on Mike Walls when the race resumed and grabbed the lead on the
sixth
lap as Richard Walls made his way into the top five. Walls worked his
way into
second on the ninth lap when the caution was waved for Marvin Winters
after he
slammed the third turn guardrail. On the restart, Walls went right after
Miller to take the lead on lap 10 and on lap 18, 17th starting Pete Weaver
passed
Miller for second. As Walls was heading for the win, Miller lost the handle
trying to regain second to bring out the caution wiping out Walls' large
lead to
set-up a one-lap dash for the checkers. Walls had no trouble holding off
Weaver the final lap for the win as Weaver settled for second and the
St. Thomas
Towing hard charger award. Barry Miller, Al Shawver Sr and Cory Houck
rounded
out the top five. Roy Miller was sixth with Larry Baer coming back from
the
second lap pile-up for seventh. Mike Walls, Daryl Kendall and Eric Ohler
finished
out the top ten. Heat winners for the 34 cars were Brian Miller, Bud Witmar
and Baer. Tim Fedder won the consolation.
Next Saturday, August 23rd, it will be Kids Night at
Hagerstown. All kids
under 12 will get a chance for a free ride in a race car during intermission.
The late model sportsman and pure stocks will be in action with twin feature
events and the enduro dash will round out the five feature program. Race
time
is 7:30 P.M.

TOP GUNS IN WINCHESTER/HAGERSTOWN SHOOTOUT SILENCED BY BALZANO
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Renegade Dirtcar Racing Series driver Mike Balzano of
Parkersburg, WV grabbed the lead from Todd Andrews on the 27th lap and led
the rest
of the way to turn-back the hometown competitors in the fourth and final
round
of the Winchester - Hagerstown Shootout at the Hagerstown Speedway Friday
night.
"I am not sure I had the best car tonight," said Balzano $4,000
richer in
Victory Lane. "But the car kept getting better and the track came
around to
us. It was good to start the weekend off this way."
Gary Stuhler of Greencastle, PA, was the overall winner of the four
race
series for the second year and picked-up an extra $2,000 from A&C
Engines of
Hagerstown.
In the 15-lap open competition pure stock feature, Bryan Kerns of
Winchester, VA led all the way for his second win
In the 40-lap Shootout for the ITSI late models, Mike Balzano started
third as Todd Andrews blasted out in front from the outside pole with
Frankie
Plessinger in pursuit. Three cautions in the first 22 laps kept Andrews
from
running away from the field and kept Balzano and Steve Shaver in the hunt.
After
the third caution, Balzano was able to stay with Andrews and on the 27th
lap,
went up high on the cushion coming off the second turn for the lead. Three-time
defending RDRS National Champion Chub Frank moved into the second spot
on the
30th lap after starting 11th, then lost the runner-up spot back to Andrews
for a lap before regaining it on the 38th lap. Once Frank cleared Andrews,
Balzano was crossing the finish line 1.5 seconds in front. Andrews settled
for
third with Gary Stuhler coming from 9th for fourth to edge out a hard
charging Tom
Myers. Jeremy Miller was next with John Mason coming from 20th for seventh.
Andy Anderson, Plessinger and D.J. Myers completed the top ten. Heat winners
for the 41 cars were Jason Covert, Kirk Ryan, Jeremy Miller and Shaver.
Mason
and Tommy Armel won the consolations.
Gary Stuhler, who had two wins in the Shootout at the Winchester
Speedway, was the overall points leader for the four race series. Tom
Myers was next
and was followed by D.J. Myers, Andy Anderson and Jeremy Miller. Miller
won the
first shootout at Hagerstown.
Nathan Durboraw and Earl Pearson collided on the front stretch in the
first lap of their qualifying heat and both cars were badly damaged. Both
drivers
were uninjured and are expected to return for Saturday's Conococheague
100.
Bryan Kerns started on the pole in the Ernie's Salvage Yard open
competition pure stock main event and was never challenged as he led all
15 laps for
the win. Alan Stone and Steve Kent battled it out for second from the
drop of
the green with Stone moving into second on the 12th lap. By the time Stone
had
cleared Kent, Kerns was no where in sight as Stone settled for second.
Kent
was third with Kenny Dayhoff and Ronnie Dennis rounding out the top five.
Kerns
won the heat for the 11 cars.
The Hagerstown Speedway will return to action tomorrow night, Saturday
August 16th, with the 22nd Annual Conococheague 100. The 100-lap feature

SMALL FRY NIGHT &TWIN FEATURES FOR SPORTSMAN AND PURE STOCKS AT
HAGERSTOWN
HAGERSTOWN, MD - It will be a night for the kids at the Hagerstown Speedway
on Saturday, August 23rd . Promoter Frank Plessinger will host "Small
Fry Night at the Races" and five feature events for what promises
to be one of the most exciting nights of the year. All kids under 12 will
be admitted FREE and have the opportunity to ride in a race car during
intermission.
Small Fry Night, originally scheduled for July 12th, was postponed due
to rain and since it is one of the most popular programs on the schedule,
Hagerstown has rescheduled it for the 23rd of August. Highlight of the
program will be twin features for both the Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic
Sportsman and the Ernie’s Salvage Yard pure stocks. The late model
sportsman will have twin-15 lap features and the pure stocks will also
double up with two 10-lap main events. Joining the sportsman and pure
stocks will be the 30-lap enduro dash. The ITSI late models will have
the night off. Race time is 7:30 P.M. with gates opening at 5 P.M.
With both divisions in tight point battles for the track championships,
the twin features will go a long way in determining the 2003 champions.
Less than 100 points separate the top five in the late model sportsman
division. Richard Walls of St. Thomas PA leads the competitive class,
but has Tim Fedder of Newtown, PA right behind just 25 points back. Larry
Baer of Dover, PA is a close third with Terry Lescalleet of Chambersburg,
PA fourth. Defending champion Dave Rice Jr of Greencastle, PA has moved
into the heated race after his victory in the last race two weeks ago
and rounds out the top five.
Only 34 points separate the top four in the pure stock division. Dean
Holmes of Cross Junction, VA is on top only 18 points in front of Eugene
Conlee of Hanover, MD. But Conlee can’t let up as defending track
champion Hans Stamberg of Barnesville is only one point back in third.
Three-time feature winner Kenny Dillon of Hanover, PA is fourth and Steve
Long of Chambersburg, PA rounds out the top five.
Following the qualifying and twin feature events for the sportsman and
pure stocks, the amateur enduro drivers will round out the evening of
excitement with 30 non-stop laps of madness
The Hagerstown Speedway is located on U.S. Route 40, six miles west of
Hagerstown, MD off the Huyett exits of I-70 an I-81. Additional information

MILLER FINDS THE RIGHT SET-UP FOR WIN IN AUTO LOCATOR MARYLAND STATE
40
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Even the Auto Locator couldn't find Jeremy Miller Saturday
night in the ITSI late model Maryland State 40 at the Hagerstown Speedway.
After starting 10th, the Gettysburg, PA driver couldn't be found once
he took the
lead on the 10th lap to record his third win of the season in a dominating
performance on Auto Locator/Duron Paints Night.
"We really had a good race car tonight and I have to give the credit
to
my crew chief Joey," said Miller. "He is the one that set-up
the car. We had
about three choices and he picked the right one and that is what you need
to win
here with all the good competition."
In the 20-lap Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman feature,
defending track champion Dave Rice Jr. of Greencastle, PA scored his first
win
of the season and Mike Warrenfeltz of Hagerstown notched his second win
in the
15-lap Ernie's Salvage Yard pure stock main event. Scott Sipes of
Harrisonville, PA won the 30-lap enduro dash.
Kirk Ryan bolted out in front in the late model feature with Charlie
Schaffer and Frankie Plessinger giving chase. The fourth lap was the breaking
point for Miller as he caught Gary Stuhler and went three wide down the
backstretch to move into the top five as Stuhler got trapped in traffic.
On the next
lap, Miller advanced to fourth right before the caution was waved for
Dan Stone
on lap five. On the restart, Miller found the outside groove to his liking
and
blasted by Plessinger and Schaffer for second. Miller closed in on the
leader
on lap nine and when Ryan bobbled coming off the second turn, Miller made
his
move to the front and had the lead when the 10th lap went into the record
book.
Stuhler worked his way into second on the 15th lap as Miller was
threading his way through the slower cars. The lapped traffic allowed
Stuhler to close
in on the leader, but once Miller was in the open, he pulled away to a
commanding lead. A caution on lap 39 gave Stuhler one final shot at the
leader, but
once the green was dropped, Miller tore away to win by 15 car lengths.
Stuhler
was second with Andy Anderson finishing third for the Timber Wolf/Ernie's
Salvage Yard Hard Charger award after starting 15th. D. J. Myers and Schaffer
rounded out the top five. Finishing out the top ten were Tom Myers, Plessinger,
Wesley Bonebrake, Paul Crowl and Devin Friese. Heat winners for the 25
cars
were Stuhler, Mark Elksnis and Plessinger.
Dave Rice Jr. started 10th in the late model sportsman feature as Brian
Miller took the lead on the second lap from Eric Ohler. Third starting
Roy
Miller tracked down Brian Miller to take the lead on the 11th lap as Rice
broke
into the top five. Johnny Smith worked his way into second on the 13th
lap after
starting seventh and inherited the lead when Roy Miller rolled to a stop
on
the next lap with mechanical problems. On the restart, Smith set the pace
with
Rice now on his bumper. With five laps remaining, Rice went to the high
groove
to take the lead on lap 16 and pulled away to his first win of the season.
Smith settled for second with Rusty Sites, Brian Miller and Pete Weaver
completing the top five. Time Fedder and Daryl Burkholder were next with
Marvin
Winters coming from 22nd for eighth and the St. Thomas Towing Hard Charger
Award.
Barry Miller came from 19th for ninth and Wesley Workman finished out
the top
ten. Heat winners for the 40 cars were Travis Beaver, Roy Miller, Ohler
and
Workman. Al Shawver Sr and Winters won the consolations.
Jeff Johnson grabbed the early lead in the pure stock feature as
Warrenfeltz wasted no time working his way into the top five by the fourth
lap. Rick
Stouffer grabbed the lead from Johnson on the sixth lap, but turned the
top
spot over to Warrenfeltz the next time around. With one lap remaining,
Stouffer's
engine caught fire bringing out the caution setting up a one-lap shootout.
On
the restart, Warrenfeltz pulled away leaving five cars battling for the
runner-up spot. Hans Stamberg came on strong to finish second to Warrenfeltz
with
Greg Hockensmith edging Kenny Dillon for third. Eugene Conlee rounded
out the
top five. Dean Holmes came from 16th for sixth and the A&C Engines
Hard Charger
Award. Cory Oberholtzer and Johnson were the heat winners for the 18 cars.
Eric Myers took the lead from the pole in the 30-lap enduro dash as
Scott
Sipes started halfway back in the 32 car field. Myers held the lead until
the
red flag was waved on lap 16 when Kevin Durst was involved in a hard crash
on
the back stretch. On the restart, Danny Main got the jump to take the
lead
for a lap before giving way to Larry Hurley with Sipes now in second.
Sipes
tracked down the leader and took the lead on lap 25 and held off the charging
Kenny Thomas for the win. Charlie Pensinger was next with Jim Mullandore
and Krazy
Kenny Thomas coming from the rear of the field to round out the top five.
Next Saturday, August 9th, two wheel excitement comes to the Hagerstown
Speedway for the Hub-City Classic AMA Progressive Insurance Grand National
Flat Track Championship. Gates open at 4 P.M. with warm-ups at 6 P.M.

begins at 8 P.M.

ECKERT CAPTURES TOPLESS 40, DILLON CLAIMS CORNETT MEMORIAL
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Defending Xtreme Dirtcar Series champion Rick Eckert
of
York, PA led every lap to win the Topless 40 for late models at the Hagerstown
Speedway in a special Wednesday night show.
"We didn't know what the track was going to be like tonight, but
Robby
Allen my crew chief figured it out," said Eckert happy to pick up
the $4,000
payoff before going out to the mid-west to join the Xtreme Dirtcar Series.
"The
car was real good at times, then it would get a little too tight. The
bottom of
the track was the fastest way around and I got up top going through lapped
traffic. It was fast there, but I didn't want to give up the bottom."
In other action, Kenny Dillon of Hanover, PA, found his way back to
Victory Lane for the third time this season by winning the 20-lap 8th
Annual Jimmy
Cornett Memorial for the Ernie's Salvage Yard pure stocks.
In the special 40-lap ITSI late model topless feature, Rick Eckert
started on the outside pole by luck of the draw and quickly took control
of the race
at the drop of the green as fourth starting Nathan Durboraw followed in
second. Cautions on the second and third laps kept the field bunched together
before Eckert started pulling away from the field. Tom Myers, who started
sixth,
passed Durboraw for second on lap seven and stayed within striking distance
of
the leader as Eckert began to put the slower cars a lap down on lap 11.
On lap 13, Eckert made contact with the lapped car of Scott Richwine
and
a lap later Eckert's lead was wiped out when the caution was waved for
Mike
Lupfer. Myers kept the pressure on Eckert when the race resumed and was
glued to
the leader's bumper as the field passed the half-way mark. Myers and Eckert
continued their battle after a caution for Jeremy Miller and made slight
contact down the frontstretch on lap 21. Eckert was then able to open
some daylight
over Myers and the rest of the field and had no trouble the rest of the
way
and crossed the finish line 10 car lengths in front of Myers. Davey Johnson
nipped a hard charging Gary Stuhler, who started 20th, at the finish line
for
third with Andy Anderson completing the top five. D.J. Myers recovered
from a
14th lap spin out to finish sixth with Les Hare, Wayne Walls Jr., Frankie
Plessinger and Scott Richwine rounding out the top ten. Heat winners for
the 25 cars
were Mike Lupfer, Johnson and Durboraw.
In the pure stock feature, Kim Ramer set the pace from the pole as Dillon
moved into the runner-up spot from his fifth starting spot by the end
of the
first lap. Eugene Conley and Mike Warrenfeltz closed in on Dillon for
second
before Dillon passed Ramer for the lead on lap 12. Hans Stamberg joined
the
four way battle for the lead with five laps remaining as Dillon was able
to hold
off the challenges to score his second Cornett Memorial win by three-car
lengths. Warrenfeltz edged Stamberg for second with Ramer holding off
a charging
Dean Holmes for fourth. Conlee, Jim Snyder and Alan Stone were next with
Mike
Sanders coming from the rear of the field for ninth and the A&C Engines
Hard
Charger award. Rick Stouffer finished out the top ten. Heat winners for
the 19
cars were Ramer and Jeff Johnson.
This Saturday, August 2nd, it will be the Maryland 40 for the ITSI late

CARR LEADS THE AMA PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE MOTORCYCLES INTO HAGERSTOWN
HAGERSTOWN, MD The 2002 American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Grand
National Champion Chris Carr of Fleetwood, PA will lead the AMA Progressive
Insurance Grand National U.S. Flat Track Series into the Hagerstown Speedway
on Saturday, August 9th. Also on tap will be the Harley-Davidson Sportster
Performance Series. Gates will open at 4 P.M. with practice at 6 P.M.
Racing begins at 8 P.M.
Carr is on top of the series after nine events. The 36 year-old driver
has three wins so far this season and would like nothing better than to
grab his second career win at Hagerstown on Saturday night and put a little
breathing room between him and second place Joe Kopp of Mica, WA. Kopp
has two wins so far this year and will be looking for his first career
win at the half-mile oval.
Johnny Murhpree of Paso Robles, CA is one of the younger riders on the
tour and scored his first career win at Hagerstown in May of last year.
He is third in the point standings and hopes to record his first 2003
win at Hagerstown. Ken Coolbeth Jr. of Warren, CT and Rich King of Dysart,
WI hope to get squarely into the championship hunt with a good race on
the 9th. Coolbeth, who is fourth in the standings is still looking for
his first win. King, who won the Hub-City Classic at Hagerstown last August,
hopes to repeat his thrilling victory of last year and improve on his
fifth place standing.
Other riders gearing up for Hagerstown include Jacob Johnson, hot off
his first win at the season at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH; three-time
national champion Jay Springsteen of Lapeer, MI, a 1999 winner at Hagerstown;
Kevin Atherton of White Pigeon, MI; Bryan Bigelow of Au Gres, MI; local
driver Paul Lynch of Bel Air and Glen Schnabel of West Bend, WI.
In addition to the AMA Grand National, the Harley-Davidson Sportster
Performance Series will be in action. Cory McDermitt of Beckenridge, MI
leads the series after four events. Scott Stump or Warminster, PA, brothers
Scott and Merle Scherb of Decatur, TX and Jared Mees of Honey Brook, PA
are locked in a great battle with McDermitt with only 11 points separating
them.

SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP NEXT FOR THE ITSI LATE MODELS AT HAGERSTOWN
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Speedway will get back on track with
a big four feature program on Saturday night, August 2nd. Headlining the
special program will be the 40-lap Maryland State 40 for the Industrial
Towel & Supply (ITSI) late models. Joining the late models will be
the Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman, the Ernie’s
Salvage Yard pure stocks and the 30-lap enduro dash. Race time is 7:30
P.M. with warm-ups at 5 P.M. Gates open at 5 P.M., so come early and enjoy
the great Hagerstown Speedway food and beverages. Grandstand general admission
is only $12 with children under 12 free.
ITSI late model point leader Gary Stuhler has been on top of the point
standings since the start and has been adding to his point lead every
week. With double points on the line, the seven time feature winner hopes
to increase the lead in the special 40-lap event that will pay $2,500
to the winner. Andy Anderson is second in points and hopes to close the
gap with a big win on Saturday. Doug Burkholder, Frankie Plessinger and
DJ Myers all hope to do the same as they round out the top five in the
point standings.
Richard Walls of St. Thomas, PA leads the Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic
late model sportsman division. Walls knows he doesn’t have the breathing
room in the sportsman that Stuhler has in the late models and is looking
for win number three on Saturday night. But Walls will have his hands
full with Will Fair, Bud Witmer, Larry Baer and defending champion Dave
Rice Jr.
The tightest point race is in the Ernie’s Salvage Yard pure stock
division. After his second feature win in the last race, Dean Holmes of
Cross Junction, VA is the new point leader, the fifth one this season.
Less than 100 points separate the top five drivers. Second to Holmes is
Eugene Conlee with Hans Stamberg, Steve Long and Kenny Dillon completing
the top five.
Also on tap for Saturday will be the enduro dash for the amateur drivers
where more than 30 cars will go 30 laps non-stop.

BLOOMQUIST DOMINATES THE MARYLAND SILVER CUP NATIONALS AT HAGERSTOWN
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN dominated the Xtreme
Dirtcar Racing Series Maryland Silver Cup Nationals by leading every lap
at the
Hagerstown Speedway Saturday night. Bloomquist earned $10,000 for his
third
Silver Cup win, his first two came in 1995 and 1996.
"The car was super, we ran exceptionally well," said Bloomquist
after
scoring his eighth XDRS race of the season. "We got out a little
late for the
dash and was suppose to start in the front row of that, but we still finished
second to sit on the outside pole and that was a good starting point.
The track
was in great shape tonight and we were able to find the right set-up.
We set
our sights on the championship this year and hopefully it will work out.
This is
one of the best starts I have ever had"
In other action, Tim Fedder of Newport, PA won the 20-lap Summer
Championship Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman feature for
his second
win of the season.
Scott Bloomquist quickly blasted out in front from the outside pole
position at the drop of the green leaving pole-sitter Donnie Moran and
the rest of
the field looking at his rear spoiler. Two cautions in the first four
laps
kept the reins on Bloomquist. But once the field settled down, Bloomquist
was in
control as he was putting the slower cars a lap down by the 16th circuit
as
Jimmy Mars and Earl Pearson tried to keep pace in second and third. While
Bloomquist was threading his way through lapped traffic, Brian Birkhofer,
Chub
Frank, Moran and Jeremy Miller were putting on a battle three and four
wide for
fourth. At the half-way mark when the caution was waved for DJ Myers,
Bloomquist
had a large lead over Pearson, Frank, Birkhofer and Mars. On the restart,
Bloomquist pulled out in front as Frank made his way to second on lap
29 after
starting 10th. Frank was unable to stay with the leader as Bloomquist
easily won
the 50-lap event.
Frank settled for second with Birkhofer third and Francis coming through
the field from 17th for fourth. Jeremy Miller rounded out the top five.
Mike
Balzano was next with defending Xtreme champion Rick Eckert coming from
23rd
for seventh. Tom Myers, Davey Johnson and Dan Stone finished out the top
ten.
Heat winners for the 44 late models were Moran, Dale McDowell, Bloomquist
and
Mars. Francis and Frankie Plessinger won the B-Mains and Moran won the
Dash.
Birkhofer set fast time of 18.953 seconds.
In the late model sportsman feature, Tim Fedder started his mission
to
the front from the 14th starting spot as Ty Shatzer took the early lead
from the
pole. Rusty Sites put the early pressure on Shatzer as Fetter wasted no
time
breaking into the top five by the eighth lap. Terry Lescalleet took over
the
top spot at the half-way mark as Fetter moved into second two laps later.
Fetter tracked down Lescalleet to take the lead on lap 16 and led the
rest of the
way for his second win and the St. Thomas Towing Hard Charger Award. Lescalleet
was second with Sites, Scott Palmer and Larry Baer rounding out the top
five.
Glenn Nininger Jr., Richard Walls, Gary Potts, Shatzer and Brian Miller
completed the top ten. Heat winners for the 34 sportsman were Sites, Shatzer
and
Brian Miller. Johnny Smith won the consolation.
The ITSI late models will come right back with the roofs off on
Wednesday, July 30th with the Topless 40 paying $4,000-to the winner.
Joining the late
models will be the Ernie's Salvage Yard in the Cornett Memorial. Race
time is
8 P.M.
