Tight Points Race Coming to a Close at Hesston Speedway
By Jeff Gill

In the next to final race of the 2003 racing season at Hesston Speedway things could not be any tighter than a lid to a pickle jar. In two of the four remaining divisions, mere points seperated the leader from second place and it just goes from there. To continue would like helping a first-grader understand algebra. The Hesston Speedway PA 305 Sprints have finished for the season and Joe Zapotoczny of Lewistown will claim the 2003 Division Points Championship. However, the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Lated Models Division is where the fun is at. Only six points seperate leader Rance Garlock and Tim Smith. These two drivers have been duking out all season long for the division title and next week is sure to be one of the best race night's this season.
The Limited Lates also had their 100 Show Points 30-lap Special that watched Herb Taneyhill led for at the first 16 laps, but then Tim Smith, who as of late has been playing the waiting game, took over the lead spot on lap 17 when Herb just got a little high coming out of turn four. Taneyhill finished second, while Steve Bailor, who had trouble early on in the race recovered to capture third. Bill Booher was fourth and Ron Beam Sr. was fifth.
In the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Clyinder Pure Stock Division Raymond Moore got out to a large lead starting from the pole position and lead the entire race. Shawn Moore was second with Larry Duvall third, Kirk Knable was fourth and current points leader Gary Garner was fifth. Again, in this division is still up for grabs.
Dan Bookwalter had to fight past Tim Brindle and Jerry Bookwalter to win the Grubb Lumber Street Stock Division Feature. Brindle was second, and Jerry Bookwalter was third, Mike Duck was fourth and Jim Bookwalter was fifth.
In the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock, Jake Sager captured the 12-lap event and had to hold off Wayne Irvin in the #W8 car for the win. The two up and coming drivers put on a great show and with both in the top 10 of the division points race, should make for some more interesting racing in the final week.
It was also for the mechanics to do their thing on the speedway Saturday night when they climbed inside of the cars they work on and ran the eight-lap V-8 Hobby Stock Mechanics Race. Mike Galloway and John Replogle put on a great show with Replogle getting the win. Replogle is the father of Hobby Stock driver Bill Replogle.
Next week is the final racing weekend at Hesston Speedway and with so much drama set on the division points races there is bound to some great racing next weekend.

Hesston Speedway Sept 13, 2003 Races Cancelled

The rain showers that passed through the area early Saturday morning and hung around for most of the day forced yet another cancellation of the races at Hesston Speedway. There are two weeks left in all of the division points races, except the Hesston Speedway PA 305 Sprints which concluded their season at Hesston Speedway last week.
Next week will feature the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model 30-Lap 100 Show Points Special Race as well as the Mechanics Race in the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock Division. The V-8 Hobby Stock Powderpuff Race will be held Sept. 27th, along with all four division races.
Also, tickets are still available for the Oct 4th Rodeo to be held at Hesston Speedway. Tickets are on sale at Laney's Feed Mill, Brenneman's Meat Market and the Snack Shop on Fairgrounds. For more information or tickets you can call the speedway at 658-2833 or 658-3608.

Hesston Speedway Roars to Life after Three Rainy Weekends

After taking the week off due to wet weather that put a damper on last week's races, the Hesston Speedway was alive with the roar of race car engines this weekend, with the Hesston Speedway PA 305 Sprints 100 Show Points Race and the Jeremy Glunt Memorial Race, sponsored by the Glunt and Replogle families and the R&G Racing Team.
In the 30-lap Sprint event, Rob Mellot grabbed the early lead and stayed in front of the pack for the first three laps. Vince Snyder, the 2001 Sprint Points Champion then took his place in the lead position until the seventh lap, then Justin Seigler, an up and comer in the division took over the lead for the final 23 trips to take the checkered flag. Mellot finished second, with Chris Meleason third, Joey Hershey was fourth and Scott Ellerman rounded out the top five finishers.
In an exciting down-to-the-wire race in the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division, Shawn Moore looked as if he would run the entire race in the lead despite heavy pressure from Kirk Knable. Knable would slip down to third on lap 13, when Gary Garner of McConnellstown dipped inside of Knable to take the second spot. Garner never let Moore out of his site and the final two laps would prove to be the difference. As Moore and Garner came out of turn four and down the front stretch, Garner put just enough juice into his #31 car to edge Moore for the victory. Moore was second with Knable third, Raymond Moore was fourth and Larry Duvall was fifth.
In the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock Darin Hoover returned to victory lane by edging Dan Bookwalter in the final two laps of the 15-lap event for his second straight win. Bookwalter, who started 24th fought his way through a tough 25-car field to get close enough to Hoover to make it a close race. Hoover went from green to checkered for the win. Bookwalter was second with Dave Brown third, Jake Griffith fourth and Cris Edwards fifth. Edwards fought back from a caution on the first lap of the race to the fifth spot.
In the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 hobby Stock Divvision Race, Keith Russell, who leads the division points race, continued to hold his lead over the division with the feature win. The 12-lap event saw Russell hold off Ryan Sager the entire race.
Sager finished second with Daren Desch third, Wayne Irvin made it into the top five with a fourth place finish and Joe DeArmitt finished the race in fifth.
The Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model Division Feature, saw Rance Garlock hold the lead for eight laps of the 20-lap race. When Jason McCullough spun out in turn two on lap nine, Waylon Wagner took over the lead position getting past Garlock. Wagner held the lead until lap 11, when Tim Smith dropped to the inside of Wagner to take over the lead. Smith held the front position for the final nine laps for the win. Garlock would finish second, John "Boogieman" Bookwalter was third, Steve Bailor was fourth and Herb Taneyhill was fifth.
Hesston Speedway promoters Jay "Butch" and Linda Grubb announced this weekend that with the amount rain that has forced cancellations over the summer, the division points races will continue throughout the final three weeks of the month. It was also announced that the V-8 Hobby Stock Division Mechanics Race will be held Sept. 20th and the V-8 Hobby Stock Powderpuff Race will be held Sept 27th.
The Hesston Speedway PA 305 Sprints will make their final appearance of the 2003 racing season next week. It will also be 30-Lap 100 Show Points Race in the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model Division.
Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing action begins at 7 p.m.

Hesston Aug 30 RAIN OUT!!!

The heavy downpur that passed through the area Saturday morning was enough to dampen the races for Hesston Speedway this weekend.
Next weekend will feature the Hesston Speedway PA 305 Sprints 30-Lap 100 Show Points Race Special, as well as regular points races in the other four divisions.
It has been announced by promoters Jay "Butch" and Linda Grubb that Saturday, September 20th will be the Mechanics Race for the V-8 hobby Stocks and regular points race and Saturday, September 27th will be the PowderPuff Race. It was also announced that a rodeo will be held at the speedway, October 4th.
Next week's races will be sponsored by Pepsi Trophy Night. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m.

Terry Norris, Missing Two Spun Cars on Last Lap, Wins Chet Groves Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock Feature at Hesston Speedway
By Jeff Gill - Publicist

Last week during the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock Feature, Jake Griffith and Darin Hoover got over anxious in trying to win the feature event. What ended up happening was the two young drivers bumped into each other sending them both to the end of the field in turn four of the final lap. This allowed Dan Bookwalter to win the race after the green flag dropped after the caution.
Things pretty much went the same, only this time it happened in the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock Feature. Division points leader Keith Russell, looked to have the feature wrapped up. Leading for much of the race, Russell was getting pressure from Ryan Sager. Sager tried to get by Russell, but was unable to find enough daylight to get past the #65K car. As the white flag signaled the final lap, Russell continued to hold his small lead over Sager. As the two cars, came down the back stretch and gave the fans a thrill on who would win the feature. Then it happened, as timely a snycronized swimming, both Sager and Russell spun out at the exact same time losing their chances to win the race. Now, enter Terry Norris in the #73 car. Norris had been third for much of the race and seemed to be content with finishing there, however, when the advantage was there he took it. Norris would miss the two cars spinning out in turn four and raced to the finish line for the feature win. Fred Noll was second, with Jake Sager finishing third, Joe DeArmitt was fourth and Wes Miles was fifth.
Of course, it would not have been a complete race without another battle for the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock between Griffith and Hoover. The two drivers again, thrilled fans with their "down to the wire" racing. This time no caution flags or spin outs played a part in deciding the winner, as Hoover edged Griffith for the win.
Tim Brindle, who started back in 11th, fought his way through the field to finish third. Mike Duck was fourth and Jim Bookwalter was fifth.
After having some difficulties in catching division points leader Rance Garlock, Tim Smith finally returned to victory lane with a win over Garlock. Smith went from green to checkered in the lead position and despite pressure from Garlock. Garlock had to fight off Bill Booher in the #18 car and John "Boogieman" Bookwalter came from the back of the field to put pressure on Booher for the fourth spot.
Things did not get off to a good start of the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model Feature when Mike Altobelli Jr's #79 car stopped running on the back stretch. Altobelli thought the field was clear and tried to duck into the back entrance of the infield pit area. However, Bob Briggs #12 was coming down the inside of the back stretch, hitting and running over Altobelli's car. Matt Parks #15 got caught up in the accident, but was able to rejoin the field. Altobelli was checked out by Williamsburg Ambulance personnel, while Parks and Briggs were uninjured.
After the restart, Smith was able to hold off Garlock for the win. Garlock was second, with Waylon Wagner third, John Bookwalter was fourth and Booher was fifth.
In the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division, division points leader Larry Duvall, made contact with the inside retaining wall on lap six and broke what appeared to be his steering, allowing teammate Raymond Moore, the defending points champion to take the lead for the remainder of the race. Gary Garner, who won last week finished second. Since Duvall did not finish the feature, and Garner's second place finish, there will probably be a new division points leader with only three points races left in the season.
Kyle Wiser finished third with Kirk Knable finishing fourth and Shawn Moore finishing fifth.
In the Hesston Speedway PA 305 Sprints, Dusty Shatzer, seemed almost destined to win the 20-lap feature event, but young Chris Meleason had other ideas.
Despite, being third for a major portion of the race, Meleason got past division points leader Joe Zapotoczny, with approximatelt five laps to go in the race and was able to over take Shatzer with three laps to go for the win.
Shatzer and Zapotoczny finished second and third, respectively, with Rod Ort fourth and Von McGee finishing fifth.
During the intermission, young race fans were able to expereince what it would be like out on the speedway when the annual Kid's Bike Race sponsored by Pepsi took place. Winning the 3-5 year old division was Bayle Jenkins, Dalton Grubb, won the 5-6-7 year old division. Laret Miller won the 8-9 year old division and Addison Yingling won the 10-12 year old division.
Next week's races will be sponsored by the Huntingdon County Humane Society. It will also be the Jeremy Glunt Memorial Race Night, sponsored by Replogle Racing. Saturday, September 6, will be the Hesston Speedway PA 305 Sprints 100 Show Points Race Special.
Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m.

Despite Weather, Fans Treated to a Great Night of Racing at Hesston Speedway
By JEFF GILL - Hesston Speedway Publicist

While the weather may have detracted some race fans from speedways in the area, fans at Hesston Speedway were treated to a great night of racing for the 10th Anniversary Race and the Ron Beam Jr. Memorial Race. It also the 100 Show Points Race for the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division.
During the intermission Ron Beam, Sr.in the Limited Late Model #41 car and Norm Beam, #14 in the 4-Cylinder Pure Stock took a memorial lap around the track to honor their late relative. Beam, who was killed in a car accident in 2002, was the 2001 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Points Champion and planned to move up to the Limited Late Model the following season. Ron Sr, is now fulfilling his son's dream every week driving the #41 car.
Despite a short rainfall that hit the area, track personnel was able to get the track back into condition for the feature events. Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 hobby Stock Division got things going, with Joe DeArmitt getting out to the early lead. DeArmitt started from the second position. It looked as if DeArmitt was going to run from green to checkered for the win, but on lap nine, Terry Norris in the #73 car ducked underneath DeArmitt for the lead. Norris, held on for the final three laps for the win despite some heavy pressure from Bill Replogle. DeArmitt finished second, while Chris Chaney was third, fourth was Raymond Fisher and fifth was division points leader Keith Russell. Replogle had originally finished second, but failed the post-race inspection and was disqualified.
For the first five laps of the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model Division Feature, it looked as if Tim Smith of McVeytown was going to keep just enough distance between himself and division points leader Rance Garlock of Three Springs for the win. But on lap six, Garlock was able to get by his closest competitor in the division points race to take the lead for the final 14 laps of the 20-lap event. Smith feel to third, with Waylon Wagner in the #5W car finishing second. Herb Taneyhill of Alexandria finished fourth and Steve Bailor finished fifth.
In the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division 100 Show Points Race, Gary Garner of McConnellstown went from green to checkered for the win. Garner, who had constant pressure from division points leader Larry Duvall in the #11 car. Duvall was tough on Garner and as the race got deeper in laps, fans were wondering if Garner was going to be able to hold on for the win.Shawn Moore finished third, as Max Hampton was fourth and Raymond Moore was fifth.
Darin Hoover and Jake Griffith are two of the up and coming drivers in the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock Division. The two of them will look back on Saturday and wonder what went wrong. Hoover in the #17x car led the entire race and had pressure from division points leader Dan Bookwalter in the early going. Griffith was able to get ahead of Bookwalter and took his turn at giving Hoover pressure. The two young drivers gave race fans a thrilling finish to what have been undoubtly a close finish. Unfortunately, the two came into turn four together and made contact with each other that brought out the caution on lap 14. Hoover and Griffith had to go to the back of the field, allowing Dan Bookwalter to take the checkered flag. Frank Todaro finished second, as Cris Edwards was third, Justin Swanger was fourth and Tim Brindle finished fifth.
Next week will be the Galloway's Machine Trophy Night and it will also be an exciting time for the younger race fans, when the annual kids bike race will be held during the intermission of next week's race.

By JEFF GILL - Publicist, Hesston Speedway

Randy Wible of Three Springs celebrated his birthday in fine fashion Saturday night when he captured his first Hesston Speedway feature win of the season in the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Clyinder Pure Stock Division. Wible, who turned 37 Sunday, started sixth raced through the field was able to get ahead of Max Hampton #711 and Larry Duvall #11. Hampton had an early lead in the race, but took turn four just a little high allowing Wible to get out in front. Although he got heavy pressure from Hampton and Duvall, Wible was able to stay ahead of the pack for the win. Wible's win will undoubtly shake things up in the division points standings, where Gary Garner holds a slight three point lead over Duvall. Hampton was second, with Duvall third, Steve Hanes was fourth and Garner finished fifth.
That was just the fourth race of the five division night for the Rodland's Crank Grinding Service and Automotive Machine Shop Trophy Night.
Racing fans knew that it was going to happen sooner or later and it almost happened this past weekend. John "Boogieman" Bookwalter played a major role in the Shellbrooke Stables Limitied Late Model Division Feature.
Bookwalter started from the second position and was able to get out to the lead over Smith, but Shawn Bilger of Mount Union was able to get to the inside of Smith and grabbed the second spot. Bilger set his sights on the "Boogieman" as he continued to put the pressure on the veteran driver. Bilger finally got out in front of Bookwalter on lap 11 and held the lead for three laps, when Bookwalter recaptured the lead on lap 14. With three laps left and one of the better races of the season, saw Bookwalter and Bilger race a two-lap shootout for the first feature win by both drivers this season. Bilger, was able to stay in his groove on the final lap to hold off Bookwalter for the win.
Smith finished third, while division points leader Rance Garlock was fourth and Bill Booher, who won last week's race was fifth.
Bill Replogle of Martinsburg captured his first career win at Hesston Speedway in the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 hobby Stock Division. Replogle dedicated his first win to his parents, John and Nancy.

Russell finished second with Wes Miles third, Jake Saeger was fourth and Kevin Hunsicker was fifth.
In the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock, Cris Edwards of Huntingdon made his way back to victory lane with his second win of the season.

Plenty of Action at Hesston Speedway for the Brenneman's Meat Market Trophy Night
By JEFF GILL - Publicist, Hesston Speedway

For those in attendance at Hesston Speedway this past weekend saw plenty of action for the Brenneman's Meat Market Trophy Night with four divisions in action.
The feature races got off with a bang during the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Models when Steve Bailor in the #25 car came out of turn two and made contact with the concrete barrier. Following Bailor was Bill Henney in the #50 car, as well as Rusty Sites #40 and John Bookwalter #1. After Bailor made contact with the outside wall, Henney clipped Bailor starting a chain reaction. With no where to go, Site made contact with Henney and the "Boogieman" did not have enough time to make the adjustment to stay clear of the accident hit all three cars. None of the drivers were injured in the accident.
At the restart, Herb Taneyhill in the #68 car continued to hold his lead and fight off division points leader Rance Garlock #19. Garlock would falter on lap nine when he got just a little high allowing Bill Booher #18 take over the second spot. Tim Smith in the #39 car, who started 10th had made his way through the field and battled Gary Beck third place.
After Garlock's miscue, Booher, Garlock, Smith and Beck, all tried to catch Taneyhill, but was unable to do so as Taneyhill took the checkered flag. Unfortunately things did not stand as such for Taneyhill, whose car failed a post-race inspection. Booher, who finished secound won the feature event, with Garlock second, Smith third, Beck was fourth and Bob Briggs was fifth.
In the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock Division, points leader Dan Bookwalter had to fight off Jim Bookwalter to secure the victory. All three Bookwalters started in one of the top five spots, with Dave Brown in the #110 car in the pole position. Brown took advantage of the lead spot and lead for the first six laps of the 15-lap event. Dan Bookwalter then took over the front spot on lap seven and fought off Jimmer Bookwalter for the win. Brown was third, Cris Edwards was fourth and Jake Griffith, who won last week's feature win was fifth.
In the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division, Raymond Moore edged Kirk Knable at the finish line to win his first race of the season. Moore, who had to fight off pole-sitter Gary Garner for the second position was able to take the checkered by litterally a nose for the win. Knable had held the lead the entire race and received heavy pressure from Moore. Garner was third, with Tom Gilliland, fourth and Ron Garlock was fifth.
In the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock Feature, Ryan Sager went from start to finish to win the feature event. Keith Russell in the 65K car finished second and despite his efforts to catch the youngster, Russell had to settle for second.

Hesston Speedway Alive With Action for the Bumgardner & Flasher Oil, Inc Race Night
By JEFF GILL - Publicist, Hesston Speedway

While most of the speedway in and around the region were being rained out, Hesston Speedway was alive with action as all five divisions were on hand for the Bumgardner&Flasher Oil Inc. Race Night.
Leading off the main events of the evening was the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock 15-Lap Feature. Mike Duck in the #73 car started from the pole-position and for the first five laps had a solid lead despite heavy pressure from Dan Bookwalter and Jake Griffith. After a caution on lap six, Jake Griffith moved past Bookwalter on the restart and continued to put the pressure on Duck. Duck would lose his lead position on lap eight when he Cris Edwards and Jim Bookwalter spun out and Griffith would out duel Dan Bookwalter for the leader position at the restart. Griffith was able to hold off Dan Bookwalter to win his second career feature at Hesston and his first this season.
Darin Hoover was third and Jerry Bookwalter, who had to hold off Dan a week ago for the feature win was fourth. Tim Brindle in the #45 car was fifth.
The Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock 12-Lap Feature saw Terry Norris in the #73 car return to the victory lane with the win after taking the lead from Raymond Fisher in the #42 car.
Wayne Irvin in the #W8 car, started from the eight-spot in the lineup and seemed to be making his way through the field in the early going of the event. However, Irvin came out of turn two and began to spin down the back stretch making contact with Chris Chaney #17c, Bill DeArmitt #68, Bill Hemphill #21r. After the carnage was cleared away, Irvin's W8 had to be doubled hooked and towed to the pits.
Fisher would finish second behind Norris, as Fred Noll and Joe DeArmitt finished third and fourth, respectively and Jake Saeger finished fifth.
In the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model 20-Lap Feature event, there was three lead changes that saw Tim Smith in the #39 car return to the victory lane.
As the green flag dropped, Rance Garlock #19 took advantage of the pole position and gained the upper hand from Bill Henney and Smith. Henney and Smith battled for the second position, while Garlock was probably checking over his shoulder to see who was behind him. Henney in the #50 car would take over second place on lap six and continued to keep the pressure on Garlock. Henney finally got his chance and took the lead from Garlock on lap nine. However, the move allowed Smith to move into second and Garlock slipped to third.
Henney and Smith continued to battle for the lead spot for two laps, when Henney went high on turn two giving Smith the opening he needed to take the lead. Henney fell to third as Garlock tried to retake his lead.
Garlock and Henney finished second and third, respectively, as John Bookwalter and Matt Parks rounded out the top five finishers.
In the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Cylinder Pure Stock 15-Lap main event, Larry Duvall won for the second consecutive week as he fought off Raymond Moore for the lead spot.

Fireworks Light Up the Sky...Racing Action Lights Up the Speedway
By JEFF GILL - Publicist, Hesston Speedway

While most of the fireworks lit up the sky Friday night, the skies over Hesston Speedway were lit up with racing action for the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock Special and the Sleeper Chassis Trophy Night.
The Goshorn's Racing Supplies 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division got the first of four features off to a good start when Gary Garner battled with Kirk Knable for the first spot. Knable was able to maintain the lead until late in the race when Garner was able to take advantage of Knable taking turn four a bit to high for the lead. Knable would put pressure on Garner but was unable to take over the leader position.
Garner and Knable finished first and second with Kyle Wiser, who also made a last minute push for the second ended up third. Randy Wible was fourth and Joe Jacobi was fifth.
In the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock !00 Show Points 20-Lap Special, Wayne Bunn started from the pole-position and made use of it when he raced out to a lead for the first half of the race.
However, things got a little tense when an eight-car crash between turns one and two brought out the red flag until the track was cleared. Cris Edwards, Dan Bookwalter, Mike Barto, Andrew Tressler, Travis Shauf, Justin Swanger, Mike Duck and Dave Brown all ended up in the accident. Bookwalter, Barto and Brown all returned to the track after taking care of some minor repairs while the track was still under caution.

familiar and new faces in victory lane Saturday night at Hesston Speedway

There were some familiar and new faces in victory lane Saturday night at Hesston Speedway for the Heeter Heating and A/C Trophy Night. It was also the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock Race Night Special.
The first race of the evening was the B-Main Feature which was postponed last week because of the weather, saw Shane Morgan take the checkered flag after Wes Miles in the #21W car raced out in front of polesitter Don Betres in the #2 car. Miles was cruising until about the fourth lap when he took turn one too high and spun out over the bank allowing Morgan, who was close behind Miles to take the lead. After the caution, Morgan continued to hold the lead for the win.
Betres finished second with Jesse Snyder taking the third spot. Miles ended up in fourth and Ric Donelson finished fifth.
In the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Models first heat race, Bill Henney and Bryan Lessley found themselves in a precarious situation. Lessley came out of turn two on lap three and got into some trouble. Lessley tried to recover but made incidental contact with Henney at the start of the back stretch. Both cars hit the concrete barrier with Henney's #50 car on top of Lessley's #5z car. Emergency and track personnel were immediately on the scene to free Lessley from the car. Both drivers were uninjured in the accident.
The accident allowed Herb Taneyhill in the #68 car to take the leader position and cruised to the win. Tim Smith gave Taneyhill some heat, but the veteran was able to maintain the lead spot, setting up what would be a specatular feature event in the Limited division.
Taneyhill started from the pole position and held the lead for the first 10 laps of the feature event. Taneyhill got a lot of pressure from #18 Bill Booher, who battled with Waylon Wagner and Tim Smith for the second spot.
Smith would get past Wagner and Booher for the second spot and on lap 11 made his move to the bottom of the track and was able to take the lead. Smith held the leader spot the final nine laps for the win.
Taneyhill noted that he had problems in turn three and four and that if Smith found the opening he would attempt to get by him on the bottom. Booher was also able to get around Taneyhill to finish second and Taneyhill finished third. Wagner dropped to fourth and Brad Kling was fifth.
Bryan Lessley continued to have bad luck when he and Gary Beck in the #22 car made contact with Lessley again finding the back stretch barrier.
Larry Duvall returned to victory lane Saturday night with a win in the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division Feature. Duvall started and finished in the front position and had to battle Norm Beam in the #14 car and Gary Garner #31. Kirk Knable would get ahead of Garner to finish third.
Beam was second and Kyle Wiser would round out the top five finishers in the race.
Dan Bookwalter found his way to victory lane with his second straight feature win at Hesston in the Grubb Lumber Street Stock Division. Bookwalter starting from the 10th spot race battled for position as pole-sitter Darin Hoover #17x led the pack for the first five laps. Jim and Dan Bookwalter made their moves on lap six allowing Jim to take the lead. However, Jim had some problems and Dan took the lead and got some pressure from Hoover in the late going but held on for the win.
Hoover was second, with Chris Edwards third, Mike Duck was fourth and Mike Barto was fifth.
In the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock Special, Terry Norris was able to take advantage of Bill DeArmitt headed to the pits on lap five. Norris had to fight off both Darin Desch and Keith Russell for the win. Desch, who finished second gave a late push for the leader position but Norris was able to kept the youngster at bay.
Desch was second with Brian Weyandt Jr, who was making his first appearance at Hesston this season was third. Miles was fourth and Robbie Goss finished fifth.
Next week's action will begin at 7 p.m. with the Grubb Lumber Trophy Night V-8 Street Stock Special with 100 show points in the Street Stock Division only. All five divisions will be on hand next weekend.

racing action returns to Hesston Speedway
By Jeff Gill - Publicist

Finally after feeling the wrath of rainy weather, racing action returned to Hesston Speedway with a full-lineup in all five divisions with the trophies being sponsored by Galloway Machine and Hoover Logging.
Despite the threat of thunderstorms and omnious dark clouds hanging over the speedway, things got off to a roaring start after the intermission.
In the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock Feature, Cris Edwards was looking for his second win of the season when he started from the pole position and led for most of the race.
Things were going smooth until lap five when Jerry Bookwalter came out of turn four a little high. Bookwalter hit the concrete barrier on the outside edge of the track and tried to regain control of the car. Justin Swanger made incidential contact with Bookwalter. Bookwalter barrell-rolled twice and landed on the roof of his car in the middle of the front stretch. As a quiet hush fell on the crowd and those at the infield pit area watched as EMS personnel from Williamsburg Volunterr Fire and Ambulance compaines and Alexandria Ambulance Service rushed to free Bookealter from the wreckage. After a few tense moments, Bookwalter climbed out of the car unscathed and was checked out by ambulance personnel. After the track was cleared and racing action resumed, Edwards maintained his lead over Dave Brown in the #110 car. Brown put constant pressure on Edwards, until with three laps to go, Brown and Edwards both got a little high coming out of turn two, allowing Dan Bookwalter to seize the leader spot and the win.
"This car was able to run anywhere on the track I wanted it to go tonight," Dan said. "This was a good race for us. The track was in beautiful shape."
Jake Griffith, who battled with Bookwalter for the third position finished second with Edwards and Brown finishing third and fourth. Jim Bookwalter rounded out the top five.
In the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock Feature, Jacob Sager took home the checkered flag for his second win of the season. Sager was able to take the lead postion from Robbie Goss, who pitted with two laps to go.
Sager did get a last ditch effort by Keith Russell for the top position but had to settle for second place. Joe DeArmitt finished third with Raymond Fisher and Mark Snyder finishing fourth and fifth.
The Hesston Speedway PA 305 Sprints Feature saw Joe Zap of Lewistown go from the start to finish for his first win of the season at Hesston. Zap fought off a hard charging Shawn Howe in the last three laps for the win.
"This was a long time coming," said Zap. "I had the gas pedal flat the entire race and I wasn't looking back to see who was behind me."
Vaughn McGhee finished third, with Rob Mellott finishing fourth and Jeff Furlong rounding out the top five.
In the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Main event, Kirk Knable fought off a late charge by Larry Duvall to capture his second win of the season at the speedway. Knable led for much of the race.
Duvall finished second, as Gary Garner also made a late charge at the top position. Joe Jacobi finished third in his Hesston Speedway debut and Norm Beam finished fifth.
Rance Garlock also took advantage of the pole position in the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model Feature. The Three Springs native fought off both Bill Henney and Bill Booher in the final five laps of the contest for the win, with Booher edging Henney for second place.
Brad Kling finished fourth and Ron Beam finished fifth.
During intermission, a special tribute was made to Dustin Bookwalter who lost his life earlier this past week in a tragic vehicle accident. In his honor, drivers Steve Hanes and Kyle Wiser both made a tribute lap in Dustin's memory.
Due to time constraints, the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock B-Main Feature will start off next week's racing action before the start of the heat races.
Also next week will feature a Kids Pit Tour and trophies sponsored by Custom Speed&Accesories.
Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m.

Sat. May 3, 2003 Hesston Speedway Results
By JEFF GILL - Public Relations Manager

After last week's cancellation at the Hesston Speedway due to rain, fans were treated to a nice Spring evening and plenty of racing action at the Hesston Speedway, Saturday night for the first points race of the season in all five divisions.
All five divisions provided plenty of action through the heat races setting up what would be a specatular feature events.
The Hesston Speedway PA 305 Sprints got things rolling for the first feature of the evening. Tom Worrick of Bellefonte jumped out to an early lead and held that position until the seventh lap when Justin Seigler was able to overtake Worrick on lap eight. Things did not get better for Worrick when he spun out on lap 17 of the 20 lap event. Seigler fought off Todd Lynn for his first career win.
"We have had times where we thought things were going all right for us and then something bad would happen," said Seigler. "Tonight good things happened to us and we got the win. I knew going out that I had to run the bottom and that was the key in staying out in front."
Lynn finished second while Rob Mellott was third. Joe Zap was fourth and Ryan Lynn the feature win from two weeks ago finished fifth. It was just the third race at the speedway for Seigler
Next on the program was the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock B-Main Feature where Rick Hamer was able to take the checkered flag for his first feature win of the season.
The 4-Cylinder Pure Stock sponsored by Goshorn's Racing Supplies saw two familiar faces do battle for the top position. Gary Garner and Larry Duvall, last season's Division Points Champion, gave the fans a lot to cheer about as the two drivers jockeyed for the lead.
However, due to a couple of cautions and time contraints the race finished with Garner taking the checkered and Duvall finishing second.
"I could hear Larry on a couple of the turns," Garner said. "I thought for sure he was going to take me on a couple of the restarts but I wasn't going to allow that to happen. I knew I had to really punch to keep the lead.
Duvall finished second with feature winner two weeks ago Kyle Wiser finished third. Arlin Brougher finished fourth and Shawn Moore was fifth.
In the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model Division, Tim Smith had to fight off a pair of drivers through the 20-lap main event. At the beginning of the race it was Rance Garlock in the #19 car and near the end it was Bill Henney.
"I knew things were going to be tough with Rance here tonight," Smith said. "I knew Bill was starting in 10th so as long as I was able to keep in front things were going to be fine. I thought Rance was going to take me on a couple of restarts but I didn't let up. I knew I had to run low the entire race and that is what I did."
Henney finished secind with Garlock third, Herb Taneyhill finished fourth and Brad Kling was fifth.
Dan Bookwalter had to fight off Jake Griffith to capture the Gruibb Lumber V-8 Street Stock Division Feature. Bookwalter starting from the pole position was able to get out to the early lead and hold on. Griffith did his best in trying to get by Bookwalter but was unable to find the opening he needed to overtake the wily veteran.
"Jake put a lot of pressure on me tonight," Bookwalter said. "We have some good young drivers in this division and things are going to be fun this year."
Griffith was second while Tim Brindle was third with Ken Taylor was fourth and Tom Beals finished fifth.
Keith Russell made his Hesston Speedway debut for the 2003 season and made it a good one by winning the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock A-Main Feature. Russell had to fight off Ryan Sager, who won two weeks ago for the win.
"Ryan gave me a good race tonight," Russell said. "There were a couple of times where I would come out of a turn and could see him right behind me. But this is becoming a very tough division. Anyone of these guys could have a good night and come out here and win."
Sager finished second, with Daren Desch finishing third, Bryan Ayers was fourth and Wayne Irvin was fifth.
There was a scary moment during the Hobby Stock Feature, when Fred Noll in the #48 car got too high into turn one and rolled over the bank between turns one and two. Noll was not injured in the accident.
Racing action continues Saturday night when the first of five 100 points races begin with the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock, with a 15-lap feature event.
Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m.

Hesston Speedway Kicks off its 10th Anniversary
By JEFF GILL - Publicist, Hesston Speedway

The Hesston Speedway kicked off its 10th Anniversary with a roaring success Saturday night. A total 87 cars in all five divisions were on hand as well a large opening night crowd.
“We are quite pleased with the turnout of drivers and fans,” promoter Linda Grubb stated. “This is a great start to our 10th year.”
There were some changes in division, none bigger than three-time V-8 Street Stock Division Points champion John “Boogieman” Bookwalter moving up to the Limited Late Model Division sponsored by Shellbrooke Stables. While Bookwalter did not take the checkered flag in the first race of the season, he made his presence felt. Bookwalter in the #1 car finished seventh after starting from the back of the field of 14 cars.
Although the season is young and no points races have begun, Bill Henney, Waylon Wagner and Tim Smith all made impressive runs in the Limited Late Model Feature. Henney led the entire 20-lap event and brought home the black and white checkered flag.
“There was a restart where I could see Waylon’s nose right behind me,” Henney said. “I knew that I had to keep in my groove and tried to put some distance between Waylon and I.”
Smith, who finished fourth had a chance at the second position, but came out of turn three a tad too high and bumped the concrete retaining wall.
“I thought I had a flat tire and I backed off a little,” Smith said of his plight, “but once I realized it wasn’t flat I got going again.”
Wagner, last year’s division points champion finished second while, Steve Bailor finished third. Ken Riland rounded out the top five positions.
In the V-8 Hobby Stock Division, sponsored by Chet Grove’s Cars Unlimited, Jacob Sager made his first career appearance to victory lane with a win over last season’s division champion Terry Norris.
“Terry was right behind me the entire race,” Sager noted. “I was just waiting for him to pass me. But, this was great.”
Norris finished second, white Sean Morgan placing third, Bill Replogle who battled for the third spot with Morgan was fourth and Bryan Ayers finished fifth.
In the Goshorn Racing Supplies 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division, Kirk Knable captured his first career win. “This has been a long time coming,” said Knable. “I was able to find my groove early and was able to keep it. I know that Gary Garner and Larry Duvall were right behind and really put the pressure on.”
Garner finished second, but Duvall’s car suffered a flat tire and fell out of contention allowing Norm Beam to capture third place. Kyle Wiser and Julie Hampton finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
There were some tense moments during the 4-Cylinder Pure Stock main event, when Barry Hawbaker in the #1ST car made contact with the 29S car driven by Sam Smith. Hawbaker careened towards the concrete barrier on the front stretch and after hitting the wall barrel-rolled one time and came to rest on all four tires. Hawbaker escaped without injury but was examined by Juniata Valley Ambulance Service personnel.
In the PA 305 Sprints Division Ryan Lynn took advantage of a good start and led the entire race to win the feature.
“I was getting a lot of pressure from Nathan Gramley and I knew I had to hold it down and keep it in the groove.”
This was Lynn’s second career win at Hesston. Gramley finished second, Chris Meleason was third, while Scott Ellerman was fourth and Rob Mellott was fifth.
Chris Edwards Jr., won his first ever Grubb Lumber Company V-8 Street Stock Division race. Edwards, who is in just his second season in the division was ecstatic over the win.
“Man, this feels great! They did a real good job in getting the track ready tonight,” Edwards said. “I knew Jim Bookwalter was behind me the whole time, but I just kept holding on.”
Bookwalter finished second, with Andrew Tressler finishing third. Ashley Barnett was fourth and Dan Bookwalter was fifth.
Racing continues next week as tune to the points season draws near. The first point’s race of the 2003 season of Hesston Speedway will begin Saturday, May 3, 2003, in all five divisions.

Curtain Fell on a "Fulfilling" 2002 Season at Hesston Speedway this Weekend
By JEFF GILL - Hesston Speedway Publicist

The curtain fell on a "fulfilling" 2002 racing season at Hesston Speedway this weekend with special races filling the line up. All five of the feature races had just about everything racing fans want to see when heading to the local speedway.
In the 25-Lap Late Model/Limited Late Model Special Race, Jeff Leiphart went from pole to finish to pick up the win. While there was a battled between Leiphart in the #8L car and Steve Everhart in the #15E car for the top spot raged on, a tougher battle was being fought for the four other top spots in the race between Jason Covert #M15, Carl Billett #10 and Tim Smith #39. Smith, Billett and Covert, all had a chance of taking over the third spot throughout much of the 25-lap event. However, when the checkered fell it was Covert that won the battle for third, with Billet fourth and Smith fifth.

Over the last couple of weeks, Keith Russell has found ways of getting ahead of the pack and staying the V-8 Hobby Stock Division Races.Russell, last week's feature winner, took another checkered flag home with him as he won the 15-Lap V-8 Hobby Stock Special.
Russell had a lot of pressure from division points champion Terry Norris for most of the race.
Robbie Goss, who started on the pole gave Russell a fight for the first part of the race, but Norris was able to get by Goss in the late going for the second spot. Norris led in the race for about a lap before Russell was able to recapture the lead and the win that went down to the wire.
Norris was second, Goss third, Joe DeArmitt was fourth and Darin Desch was fifth.
In the PA 305 Sprints 25-Lap Event, JR Fogelsonger edged out Vince Snyder for the win in a thrilling race.
At the beginning of the race, Jason Shultz looked as if he was going to be the one who would take the black and white checkered, but mechanic problems dropped him out the race on lap 20.
That was enough room for Snyder and Fogelsonger to give the fans at the speedway a great race to watch.
Just as the race was getting under way, Robert Varner lost control starting into turn one. Varner flipped his car forcing Nathan Gramley to go down over the embankment. Both drivers were uninjured in the race with Gramley continuing on and Varner out of the race.
Things looked as if they were going get back to normal and the race running in full swing, George Johnston came out of turn four unable to stay in the groove. Johnston's car hit the outside retaining wall on the front stretch before rolling over. He also walked away from the vehicle after the accident.

Snyder was able to get in front of Fogelsonger and stayed in the lead for about three-quarters of the race before Foglesonger made his move. With five laps to go, Fogelsonger moved to the inside of Snyder and passed him with just about two laps to go. Things started to get real interesting at this point, as both drivers tried to jockey for the top spot. When the checkered flag fell Fogelsonger had captured the win. The Lynn Brothers Ryan and Todd finished third and fourth, respectively and Scott Ellerman finished fifth.
There were two special races also on the agenda at the Hesston Speedway. A 5-lap Powder Puff Race and an 8-Lap Mechanics Race in the Hobby Stock Division.
At the beginning of the race, it look as if Tammy Smith in the #42 car and wife of Tim Smith was going to win the event, but a spin out by Smith and Nancy McMullen forced Smith to the end of the field. That allowed Tammy Morder, in the #8 JR Guyer's car to win the Powder Puff event.
In the Mechanic's Race, Danny Eicher took advantage of a caution flag, to take the lead and the win. Eicher is part of #60 Bill Replogle's crew.
"This has been a fulfilling year," Hesston Speedway owner Linda Grubb said of the season. It just seemed like the season started and now it has come to an end."
Before racing action commenced, "Marie" A Reba McEntire Impersonator entertained the crowd with some of McEntire's biggest hits. Also performing was nine-year-old Jourdan Irene, who sang hits by Loretta Lynn and her own single, "Watch Out Nashville Here I Come"
Tickets are currently on sale for the 2002 Awards Banquet to be held Saturday, January 18, at the Casino at Lakemont Park. Cost of the tickets are $25 per ticket. If it ran, it raced Saturday night at the Hesston Speedway for the "Run What You Brung" Race Night
By JEFF GILL - Hesston Speedway Publicist

If it ran, it raced Saturday night at the Hesston Speedway for the "Run What You Brung" Race Night. This allowed all drivers to run whatever they wanted in the four main divisions at the speedway. It also allowed the drivers to run with clear plexiglas billboards on the side of their cars to thank sponsors and such. It was the next to last race of the season for the speedway and the fans in attendance was treated to great racing this weekend.

In the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model Division, Tim Henney raced out to his feature win of the season as he went from start to finish for the win.Henney felt some pressure from Tom Erickson, who was driving the #68 car, usually driven by Herb Taneyhill.
Mike Altobelli and Tim Smith battled hard for the third spot, that was until at approximately lap 10, Altobelli and Smith got together to bring out the caution. Both drivers viewed the race from the inside pit area, since both sustained damage that would not permit them to contine in the race.

"This was a good win," Henney said. "I could feel Tom closing in but I wasn't real sure how close he was."
Rance Garlock, who returned to the speedway after approximately a month layoff finished third, Devin Freise, who made his first appearance at the speedway was fourth and Bill Booher finished fifth.

In the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock Feature, Keith Russell and and Terry Norris, battled for most the 12-lap event, but Russell was able to take get in front of Norris for his eighth Hesston win of the season.
After Norris drifted back to third, JR Guyer continued to put heavy pressure on Russell, but ran out of laps before he was able to overtake Russell.
Guyer and Norris finished second and third, respectively, with Raymond Fisher fourth and Rick Hamer in fifth.
In the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock, Bill Henney returned to the winner's circle for the second time in the evening by winning the 15-lap event.

At the beginning of the race, it looked as if a good hard race was gearing up between Jake Griffith in the #50 car and Henney in the #S1 car. However, Griffith led for only four laps of the race before experiencing car trouble that put him out the race, allowing Henney to lap just about the entire field for the win.

Just as Henney was crossing the finish line, the #75 car driven by Ashley Barrett and the #34 car Russ Hamer collided allowing Bill Heffner to finish second, Steve Lowery was third, fourth was Tim Brindle, last week's feature winner and the #01 of Jim Bookwalter was fifth.
It should be noted that Russ Hamer was not disqualified after the post-race inspection last week. Hamer was awarded the points for finishing in the race. (I apologize for reporting the incident in last week's report).

In the final race of the night, Mike Gru8bb in the #31G car captured his first ever Hesston win in the Goshorn's Racing Supply Pure Stock Division.
Grubb, was able to hold off a persistent Larry Duvall in the #11 car. Duvall finished second in the event.
Duvall looked as if he was going to go from start to finish for the win, but Grubb was able to overtake Duvall on just the second lap and held off Duvall.
Division points champion Raymond Moore was third, Kyle Wiser was fourth and Julie Hampton was fifth for her first top-five finish of the season.
Next week, will bring the curtain down of the 2002 season at Hesston Speedway. There will be a 25-lap feature race in the Limited Late/Late Model Division with a purse of $1,200 to win and $50 to take the green in the feature event. The Limited Late Models must have an 8" inch spoiler and the Late Models a 12" spoiler.
There will be a 25-Lap PA 305 Sprints Race with a $500 cash prize. A $300 15-Lap A-Main Feature Prize in the V-8 Hobby Stock Division and a $100 cash prize for the 10-Lap B-Main Feature. If time permittin there will be a six-lap Hobby Stock Powder Puff Race and an eight-lap Hobby Stock Mechanics Race.
Speedway promoters Jay "Butch" and Linda Grubb are proud to annouce that "Marie" a Reba McEntire Impersonator will be performing in the grandstand area from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Performing with Marie will be nine-year-old Jordan Irene.
Tickets are now on sale for the annual Hesston Speedway Banquet to be held Saturday, January, 18, 2003 at the Casino at Lakemont Park. Tickets are $25.

The Only Thing a Couple of Drivers at the Hesston Speedway Had To Do This Week Was Show Up
By Jeff Gill - Hesston Speedway Publicist

The only thing a couple of drivers at the Hesston Speedway had to do this week was show up. All four drivers did so and with the exception of "The Boogieman" John Bookwalter (V-8 Street Stock) and Raymond Moore (4-Cylinder Pure Stock) all won the feature events in their respected divisions.
Over the last couple of weeks, Waylon Wagner #5W was able to take advantage of Tim Smith's misfortune, to ease himself into his first career points championship at Hesston Speedway.
John Bookwalter did not get a chance to see the main event in his division. During the heat races, Boogieman came out of turn three and ended up hitting the concrete barrier that put him out of action the rest of the night.
"There is not a lot damage to the car," Bookwalter said. "It is mostly cosmetic stuff."
Bookwalter claims his third straight division points championship and despite some mechanical problems in the latter part of the season, he won a total of 11 feature events and finished the season with 670-plus points on the year.
Bookwalter also stated that he is planning to move to the Limited Late Model Division next year.
"The move is definitely going to happen," Bookwalter noted. "We are looking a different chasis right now and hopefully we will be getting things finalized soon."
In the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model Division, the only thing Waylon Wagner had to do this week was show up. The division held its 35-lap special event this week and everyone that entered the race was given 100 show points, thus giving Wagner his first career points championship.

"The key this whole season has been consistency," Wagner stated. "We have had a lot of luck this year and that's a big thing in racing."
For most of the season, especially in the month of July and the first week into September, the division was up for grabs between Wagner and Tim Smith in the #39 car. The two drivers were taking turns as the leader in the standings, until Smith hit hard times.
"We have had a bad month," Smith said after winning the 35-lap event. "It seemed that every time there was a wreck we ended up in it. Plus, we had some mechanical problems. So we just went back to basics and raced our race tonight. The nice thing about Waylon winning the championship was that we raced clean everytime and that is what it is all about."
Wagner finished second behind Smith in the feature race with Brad Houck finishing third, Bill Booher was fourth and John Hedge was fifth.

With John Bookwalter out the Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock Feature, there was plenty of opportunity for someone else to take the checkered flag. When the final lap was completed, Tim Brindle ended a two-hiatus from victory lane for the win.
"I'm speechless right now," Brindle said of the win. "We have been close a couple of times, but tonight was our night. I was able to keep the car low and staying in the lead."
Brindle went from start to finish for the win.
Darin Hoover finished a close second, with Kerry Molovich finishing third, Russ Hamer finished fourth and Dan Bookwalter finished fifth.

In the Goshorn's Racing Supply 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division, Raymond Moore watched as teammate Larry Duvall take his second straight feature event. Duvall, who began the evening in third place in the points standings was able to hold off a continuing charging Mike Grubb in the #31G car for the win.
Moore finished the season with 695-plus points for his first division points championship. Shaen Moore was third and Kyle Wiser was fifth.

Terry Norris brought the curtain down on his first Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock Division Points Championship by going from start to finish for the win.
Norris, who has had heavy pressure of the last couple of week's from Keith Russell for the top captured his second feature win of the season.
"We won this by finishing races and in the top five or 10 every race," Norris said. "This feels really good. I just went out there and raced the track, not the other cars."
Jacob Sager who gave Norris pressure throughout the 12-Lap event finished second, with last year's points champion Robbie Goss third. Joe DeArmitt was fourth and Russell was fifth.
The next week's action will feature a "Run What you Brung" event in all four primary divisions. Then the week of Sept. 28, there will be a "Late Model-Limited Late Model" 25-Lap race with a purse of $1,200 at stake. Also featured that night will be a 25-lap Sheehan Motors PA 305 Sprints race with a $500 purse and a Chet Grove's V-8 Hobby Stock 15-Lap $300 to win A-Main Feature and a 10-Lap $100 to win B-Main Feature. If time permits, there will be a 6-Lap Powederpuff Hobby Stock Race and an 8-Lap Hobby Stock Mechanics Race.
There will be a special treat for the fans that night. Marie Levine, the top Reba McEntire Impersonator will again perform at the intermission. Also performing with Marie will be nine-year-old Jordan Irene. Fans should note that on the night of the 28th pit fees will be $20.

Brett Knable of McVeytown Takes Home His First Ever PA 305 Sprints Feature Win
By JEFF GILL - Hesston Speedway Publicist

Brett Knable of McVeytown took home his first ever PA 305 Sprints Feature win Saturday night at the Hesston Speedway during the Shellbrooke Stables Trophy Night. To get there he had to run the race of his life.
During the 20-lap event, it looked as if Joe Zap of Lewistown, was hoping there was not a repeat of two weeks ago, when he lead the first 10 laps of the feature and eventually finishing to second place behind Scott Ellerman. Zap led the first 16 laps, but on the back stretch Knable was able to get ahead of Zap for his first lead of the night. Zap was able to get ahead of Brett again, but it did not last long. On lap 19, Knable got high enough to pass Zap and held on for the win.
"Once I made it to fourth, I knew I had to go for it," Knable said. "We were able to get the advantage on the restart (on lap 18) and that was a big plus."
Vince Snyder ended up second, with Shawn Howe third and Scott Ellerman was fourth and Todd Lynn was fifth. Zap finished in 13th.
Shawn Howe finished at the top of the division with 353 points to become the 2002 Sheehan Motors PA 305 Sprints Division Points Champion. Finishing second was Scott Ellerman with 336 points, third was Todd Lynn (329) points, fourth was Joe Zap (329) points and rounding out the top five was Nathan Gramley with 300 points. A final points standings report will be released in the near future.
The other big winner of the night was Bill Booher in the #18 car of the Shellbrooke Stables Limited Late Model Division.

Booher picked up his first career Limited Late Model win in one of the best races of the night.
At the beginning of the race, it seemed that division points leader Waylon Wagner in the #5W car was going to go the entire 20-laps for the win. However, near the end of the race, Wagner experienced some problems and dropped completely out of the race. Booher had to fight off second-place finished Herb Taneyhill for the win.
"This was long over due," Booher said. "We have worked really hard at keep the car running good and this is just an awesome feeling."
Bill Henney finished third, with Bob Briggs and Brad Houck, last week's feature winner Brad Houck was fifth.

After three weeks of having some bad luck, "The Boogieman" John Bookwalter returned to his old form by going from start to finish for his 11th win of the season in the Grubb Lumber Street Stock Division. Bookwalter, who all but has the division points race won, wasted little time in setting the tone for the race.
"We were able to stay together tonight," joked Bookwalter. "We started working on this car about 3 a.m. this morning and without the help of my crew and Mike Galloway, I don't think we would have made it tonight. This car run awesome tonight."
Dan Bookwalter, driving brother, Jerry's car finished second, with Bill Heffner third. Mark Whitsel was finished fourth and Tom Beals finished third.

Keith Russell in the #65K car of the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock returned to victory lane and had lots of family members to help celebrate his seventh overall win of the season.
"Today was our family reunion and it was really nice to have them here to see this one. This one is for them," said Russell.
Russell took advantage of approximately four cautions that forced the 20 minute time limit on the 12-lap feature, despite starting in seventh. Russell had to fight off JR Guyer in the #8 car.
Mike Duck finished second, while Guyer was third. Terry Norris and Mike Barto rounded out the top five finishers.

There was no surprise in the Goshorn's Racing Supply 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division Feature. For the eighth time this season, Raymond Moore took home the checkered flag. He went from start to finish for the win.
"It takes a lot of hard work to keep the car running," Moore said of his success this season. "The track has been in good shape the last couple of weeks and tonight it was especially nice. I like a dry track, the drier the better. But I would really like to thank Toby Duvall. He owns the car and he does a lot for us."
Shawn Moore finished second, while R. Moore's teammate Larry Duvall was third. Gary Garner was fourth and Kyle Wiser was fifth.
Next week is the final points races for the four remaining divisions. Racing should be at its best next week as all the drivers and their crews make one last charge at the current division leaders.

Eventually, Even Bridesmaids Become Brides
By JEFF GILL - Hesston Speedway Publicist

Over the last few weeks Jake Griffith has been in the hunt for his first career feature win in the Grubb Lumber Street Stock Division at Hesston Speedway. Usually, Griffith was the proverbial "bridesmaid" finishing behind one of the Bookwalters, whether it was John or Jerry. But, eventually, even bridesmaids become brides and Griffith's hunt for his first career win is finally over
Despite leading the first lap, Griffith found himself looking at Jerry's rear bumper, that was until about half way through lap five, when Bookwalter began leaking antifreeze. Bookwalter brought out the caution as he headed into turn one, allowing the young driver to take the lead for good.
"This is great," a very happy Griffith said. "I hated to take advantage of Huck's (Jerry Bookwalter) misfortune tonight. I smelled antifreeze and I wasn't sure if it was me or Huck."
"This is a great division to race in with the Bookwalters and Bill Heffner, just to name a few. This was really a dream come true."
Wayne Bunn was second, Darin Hoover, who continues to be in contention week after week was third, fourth was Jim Bookwalter and fifth was Tim Brindle.

There was another dream that came true Saturday night as Raymond Fisher in the #42 car in the Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock captured his first A-Main Feature win.
"This has been a long time coming," Fisher said. "This was my first ever A-Main win in three years of racing. It's about time. This was long overdue."
Fisher wass able to get past #73 Terry Norris who led the first three laps, as they headed down the back stretch, Fisher was able to get past Norris to take the lead and hold his position for the win.
Norris finished second with Bill Replogle third, Mike Barto was fourth and JR Guyer was fifth.

In the B-Main Feature, Robbie Goss won for the second consecutive week despite starting in 13th.
"I wish this was an A-Main Feature win," Goss said. "I want to thank a lot of the other guys in the division who either offered their help, tools, or parts to help me get the car fixed after the heat race. These are a great group of guys."
Gary Morder, who despite was involved in a caution on lap three was able to get through the field for second place. Mike Bubb continues to make a good showing was third. Rick Donelson was fourth and Ken Snyder Jr was fifth.

In the Shellbrooke Stable Limited Late Model Division, Brad Houck, who decided to take some time from racing this year, won his first feature of the season in a down-to-the-wire race with Tim Smith in the #39 car.
Despite a low number of cars in the field, Houck and Smith showed fans at the speedway one of the best races this season in the division.
While Smith led most of the way through the 20-lap event, Houck was right there waiting to make his move. Smith, who has been experiencing mechanical problems over the last couple of weeks, looked as if he was going to end his streak of bad luck. However, on lap 18, Smith hit the large tire inside of turn four that eventually broke a spindle.
"I could feel it getting loose," Smith said of the spindle.
As Smith was fighting mechanical problems, Houck was able to get to the upper side of Smith to take the lead on lap #19.
"He wanted just as much as I did," Houck said of his race with Smith. "He got a little wide there at the end but that's racing."
Houck was referring to Smith's spindle snapping as the checkered flag dropped giving Houck the win. Smith got loose and collided with the side of Houck's car. Smith hit the inside wall on the front stretch as the race ended."
Division points leader Waylon Wagner was third, with Bill Booher fourth and last week's feature winner Bill Henney fifth.

In the Goshorn's Racing Supply 4-Cylinder Pure Stock Division, Larry Duvall was able to earn his third win of the season. Duvall in the #11 car started in third and was able to get into contention from the green flag. Brian Lessley, who started on the pole was able to lead the field for about three laps before Duvall took over for good, despite some heavy pressure from Kirk Knable.
Knable finished second, while Duvall's teammate Raymond Moore was third. Lessley was fourth and Shawn Moore was fifth.
There are just two weeks left in the regualar season points race and anything can happen at this point in time of the season.
