We've Not Been Receiving Regular News From KC Raceway

KC RACEWAY PRESENTS RENEGADE ‘KC 100 CIRCLEVILLE OIL CHALLENGE’

WAVERLY, OH --- “Every time you get those guys to town it’s a great time,” stated an enthused Jim Nier, promoter of KC Raceway in Waverly, OH, south of Chillicothe, speaking of the upcoming Saturday September 13 appearance of the famed Renegade Dirt Car Racing Series Late Models for the KC 100 Circleville Oil Challenge race that will pay a heft $10,000 to the winner. “They bring all the good cars and a lot of good cars with them.” The Renegade Dirt Car Racing Series (RDRS) will be making their second appearance of the year at KC Raceway, an ultra-fast high-banked 3/8 mile clay oval.

The first Renegade Dirt Car Racing Series event of 2003 at KC Raceway was held on June 21 where Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY captured his first Renegade DirtCar Racing Series sanctioned main event victory of the season pocketing the $7,000 top prize in the Summer Sizzler 50. The $32,000 purse event drew 48 drivers with Bart Hartman earning the Carrera Shocks "Challenge the Clock" time trials award with his fast lap of 15.278 seconds. Brodix, Inc. heat race wins fell to Rod Conley, Keith Berner, Barry Bragdon and Jerry Rice while Hartman and Tim Hitt grabbed the Mastersbilt Race Cars "B" Main events and Lanigan copped the Isky Racong Cams dash.

The upcoming September 13th stop at the south-central Ohio speedplant marks the 22nd time for a Renegade series sanctioned event at KC Raceway with ten different drivers having taken checkered flags. Donnie Moran, the four-time Renegade champion, leads the winner’s list with six previous triumphs including last years race and the 1995 event. Rick Aukland has posted four triumphs while Davey Johnson, the 1993 and 1994 series champion, has three wins at KC Raceway including the inaugural "Night the Stars Come Out 40" in 1994. Steve Francis has won two KC while single Renegade events at KC have went to Steve Shaver, Bart Hartman, Mike Balzano, Chub Frank, Jackie Boggs and Lanigan.

The KC 100 Circleville Oil Challenge will attract a large field of nationally known, as well as the top regional and local teams, to KC Raceway. Among the current top 15 in Renegade Dirt Car Racing Series national point standings are Chub Frank, Mike Balzano, Davey Johnson, Rob Blair, Rod Conley, Dave Troutman, John Mason, Steve Shaver, Bart Hartman, Matt Urban, Steve Francis, Doug Drown, Jackie Boggs, Jack Pencil and R.J. Conley.

Nier contended that this much anticipated race was help made possible by a local company who saw the benefits in creating a marketing partnership with the racetrack.

“Circleville Oil, that’s Tim Wilson and he’s been behind us all year and really throwing his support to Late Model racing in area,” revealed Nier. “They sell all kinds of race fuels and he’s actually sponsoring a guy by the name of Mike Wilson. They’re not related but that’s his car that Mike Wilson is driving.” Circleville Oil Company has two locations, a storage facility at 1080 S. Washington Street, Circleville, and a propane office located at 310 West Mount Street in Circleville.

Nier also feels confident that his production will be a success in part due to the national recognition that comes with booking the Renegade Dirt Car Racing Series, a national dirt Late Model sanctioning body nearly 20 years old and recognized as a leader in the sport.

“What can you say about (RDRS Race Director) Bret (Emrick) and those guys?” offered Nier. “They’re Late Model people to the core, they pour their heart and soul into their organization and every time they come down they’re professionals, their shows go without a hitch and they bring great entertainment value to our region.”

Nier has other reasons for bringing in the national series more than once a year to his racetrack.

“Some of the Late Model shows we’ve had this year have been some of the best shows we’ve had all year,” stated the Sprint Car racer-turned-promoter. “They’re really professionals and really good drivers and close door-to-door action. It’s a good deal.”

In addition, brining in a series and form of racing that a group like Renegade offers, broadens his fan base the second-year racetrack owner has found. “I see a bunch of new faces every time I bring in a sanctioned Late Model group like the Renegade’s. It just brings a whole different group of people to my track and it’s great.”

A complete program of CARRERA SHOCKS "Challenge the Clock" time trials, BRODIX,INC. heat races, MASTERSBILT RACE CARS "B" Mains and the ISKY RACING CAMS dash will be held prior to the feature event. The "Delaware Double-File Restarts" will be utilized in the feature race only.

Jim Nier's KC Raceway is located twelve miles south of Chillicothe,OH on U.S. Route 23 to Alma, OH then west two miles on Blain Highway. For further information phone 740-663-4141 or 740-289-2629 or visit the KC Raceway website at www.kc-raceway.com

KC RACEWAY’S ‘MOPAR XTREME HEAT 50’ ON SPEED CHANNEL THURSDAY

Chillicothe, OH --- Thursday evening at 11:00 PM EST Jim Nier’s KC Raceway will get the national television spotlight when the SPEED Channel broadcasts the “Mopar Xtreme Heat 50” dirt Late Model race that was sanctioned by the Xtreme Dirt Car Series and held at KC Raceway near Chillicothe, OH on July 11 as the grand finale of the 1st Annual Xtreme Ohio Late Model Speedweek.

It was a great night of dirt Late Model racing with a pit full of national and regional superstars, packed grandstands and the SPEED Channel cameras. And what a race!

Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN drove the Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Custom Taurus to his seventh Xtreme DirtCar Series win of the season at KC Raceway. Bloomquist took the lead from Steve Francis of Ashland, KY on lap 28, and then pulled away for the $10,650 victory, his 96th XDCS career win.

The race went caution-free in front of a standing-room-only crowd, and 23 of the 24 cars that started the race were running at the finish, with 18 on the lead lap, and the remaining five running were only one lap down.

“I think it legitimizes dirt track racing to have national coverage,” stated Jim Nier, owner and promoter of KC Raceway. “It shows they are taking our deal seriously and it shows that (Xtreme Dirt Car Series owner) Doug (Bland) is really putting his best foot forward trying to get national exposure. We have to make these guys national stars and we have to put them in the forefront and introduce their talent to the masses and the race on SPEED Channel, like I said, legitimizes dirt track racing and it legitimizes KC Raceway. There are no negatives to this situation. Every minute we get on national television is a minute less I have to work to promote, because it sells itself.”

“I’m just glad (race sponsor) Mopar stepped up to the plate and was able to help us out with it and get some of the production costs handled because I think when this thing comes out on SPEED Channel in everyone can experience what KC Raceway is all about. How many other racetracks do you go to that is three deep racing all night long? They can see what it’s all about down here. And as far as I’m concerned I feel we have the greatest racetrack in the country and I might be biased but the proof is in the pictures. Just watch the TV show.”

Jim Nier's KC Raceway is located twelve miles south of Chillicothe,OH on U.S. Route 23 to Alma,OH then west two miles on Blain Highway. For further information phone 740-663-4141, 740-289-2629 or visit the KC Raceway website at www.kc-raceway.com

KC RACEWAY TO HOST LATE MODEL FINALE WITH NATIONAL TELEVISION COVERAGE

CHILLICOTHE, OH --- Southern Ohio is about to be invaded by the national dirt Late Model superstars of dirt track racing when the Xtreme Dirt Car Series rolls into KC Raceway on Friday July 11 for the grand finale of the Ohio Late Model Speedweek as KC Raceway owner Jim Nier will host the MOPAR XTREME HEAT 50 that will also be featured on SPEED Channel, a national cable network. The extravaganza kicked off on Thursday July 3 at the Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, OH and was followed by a July 4 holiday show at Raceway 7 in Conneaut, OH. The next event will be held on Tuesday July 8 at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH with Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH picking up the Wednesday July 9 date. The series will finish off at KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH on Friday July 11 with Saturday July 12 reserved as a rain date. The winner each night will receive $10,000 and the races will pay $700 to just start the main event.

“I am very excited about this race coming up and how could you not get excited about the biggest names in dirt Late Model racing coming to southern Ohio?” stated Jim Nier, a former Sprint Car star who purchased KC Raceway early last year. “There will be no more chances this year to see these guys. You read the papers and see them on TV and to know they are coming to the fastest track around it’s going to be sheer greatness.”

In addition, Nier’s KC Raceway will also get the national spotlight via SPEED Channel as the grand finale will be filmed and televised. Nier jumped at the chance when approached by Xtreme Dirt Car Series president Doug Bland.

“I was ecstatic,” said Nier. “When I was approached about getting it two weeks ago I jumped on the chance and I was fortunate to land Mopar as a sponsor for it and they came on board with both feet so we’ll really make it an event for them.”

Nier also realizes what an impact the SPEED Channel broadcast can have on Ohio dirt track racing.

“It legitimizes what we do,” explained Nier. “And that’s the media we need. That’s a page from NASCAR’s book. You get the national attention by putting it in front of them and to legitimize this deal we have to be on television. And it’s not just good for KC but it’s good for dirt track racing as well. "To get this television coverage suggests the impact this race will have on our immediate economy. This the only time any thing like this will happen this year. Its the only time all the national stars will have the chance to race against each other. Drivers from all the major dirt track sanctions will be here. Fans won't want to miss it."

So what can race fans expect Friday evening at KC Raceway?

“I’ll tell you, they should expect non-stop, door-to-door excitement,” offered Nier. “With the track prep the way it has been we have the best surface in the country. It’s super-smooth. Racy all night long and for the people who haven’t been to Chillicothe it’s a whole new experience for them. At KC they are always passing someone whether it’s lapping cars or going for position.”

Dirt Late Model teams from across the country will be in attendance, including top Xtreme teams like defending and two-time series champion Rick Eckert of York, PA, 1999 series champion Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA, four-time series champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN, Steve Francis of Ashland, KY, Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH, Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA, Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound,WI, Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI, and Lucas Oil Rookie of the Year point leader Matt Miller of Waterville, OH.

"It's been a while since anything like this has been held for dirt Late Models and despite the current economic climate we felt we needed to give the fans what they have been asking for," stated Jim Nier, owner and promoter of KC Raceway. "We think this concept is viable and will be successful and we are already thinking ahead to next year. This year will be a year to get started and hopefully we can make this an annual special week and have seven tracks in seven nights. That's the ultimate goal. So we'll use this year as a barometer of sorts."

The series’ finale at KC Raceway on Friday July 11 will have tickets available at $30 for reserved seats (credit card orders welcomed) and $25 for adult general admission with children age 6-12 $5 and 5 and under free. Pits will be $35. Fans purchasing reserved tickets in advance are to call: 740-289-4114. The pits will open at 3:30 PM, grandstands at 4:30 PM with racing at 7:30 PM. Jim Nier’s KC Raceway is located at 2535 Blain Highway in Huntington Township in Waverly, OH near Chillicothe, OH. For information call 740.663-4141 (track) or 740-663-4143. KC RACEWAY OFFERS A RENEGADE “SUMMER SIZZLER” THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!

Waverly, OH --- The Renegade DirtCar Racing Series will march into Jim Nier’s KC Raceway located near Chillicothe, OH this Saturday evening June 21 for their first appearance of the season. Earlier in May the Renegade Dirt Car Racing Series event scheduled for May 17 was rained-out. This weekend’s appearance by the Renegade Dirt Car Racing Series for KC’s “Summer Sizzler 50” main event will offer a $32,000 purse with $7,000 earmarked for the winner. The Renegade Dirt Car Racing Series will be invading with their own brand of throttle-stomping excitement that has become the norm for that series when they stop by KC Raceway.

The June 21st stop at the south-central Ohio speedplant marks the 21st time for a Renegade series sanctioned event at KC Raceway with nine different drivers having taken checkered flags. Donnie Moran, the four-time Renegade champion, leads the winners list with six previous triumphs including last years race and the 1995 event. Rick Aukland has posted four triumphs while Davey Johnson, the 1993 and 1994 series champion, has three wins at KC Raceway including the inaugural "Night the Stars Come Out 40" in 1994. Steve Francis has won two KC while single Renegade events at KC have went to Steve Shaver, Bart Hartman, Mike Balzano, Chub Frank and Jackie Boggs.

“It’s always exciting when the Renegade series comes into town,” explained KC Raceway owner Jim Nier, a former Sprint Car great, who has become a serious proponent of dirt Late Model racing in recent seasons. “You’ve got some top notch drivers in that series and, I don’t know, I was always a big Sprint Car fan and for awhile I didn’t pay any attention to Late Models and the reason I wasn’t a big fan of them was because I never had time to watch them. I was always back there (in the pits) grooving tires or doing something on the race car and now I’ve got time to watch them. And my God, those guys put on an awesome show. They’re just unreal!”

“I never would have imagined because you get tunnel vision when you’re back there doing your own deal. The effort they put into making those cars look nice, it’s unreal.”

“I love to have them in town because they’re a great bunch. Rick Gross and Bret Emrick are professional to work with, and I could go on and on about it all day long. But everyone needs to come out here and check this deal out because it’s the greatest racing in southern Ohio.”

And the nationally renowned Renegade series is more than happy to venture back to KC Raceway, one the midwest’s most competitive dirt track racing facilities.

"They have made so many improvements to that facility,” stated Bret Emrick, Race Director for the Renegade Series. “Folks aren't going to recognize the place! To try and talk about them all would fill your column! There are new grandstands, better restroom facilities, better concessions. Jim is bringing in the top sanctioning organizations this year as well. The fans at K-C are going to have a virtual smorgasboard of racing this year!”

“They didn't forget about the racer either. That big drop off that was always there off of turn two and down the back chute is no longer there. Man, that was a huge safety improvement. The pits have been expanded, new clay was put down and the list just goes on and on."

Filling ou the racing card will be the KC Raceway Hobby Stocks.

Gates will open at 4:30 with racing at 7:30 PM. Admission is $20 for adults, $30 for pits with ages 6-12 $5 and age 5 and under admitted free. Jim Nier's KC Raceway is located twelve miles south of Chillicothe, OH on U.S. Route 23 to Alma, OH then west two miles on Blain Highway. For further information phone 740-663-4141, 740-289-2629 or visit the KC Raceway website at www.kc-raceway.com.

HAULMARK ALL STAR SPRINTS BACK TO KC RACEWAY

One thing Jim Nier is not and that is a quitter. Nier, owner of KC Raceway near Chillicothe, OH was all set to give race fans a dose of the best of both worlds with the track’s annual “The Night The Stars Come Out” double-header with the Haulmark All Star Sprints and the Renegade Dirt Car Racing Series back on May 17. Mother Nature, has she has been inclined to do thus far this season throughout short track racing, let loose with rain which resulted in a disappointing cancellation.

But KC Raceway fans will still have a chance to see both groups in the next two weeks as both sanctions are slated to return to the ultra-fast high banks of KC Raceway on two separate weekends.

“I’m glad that Guy Webb of the All Stars was able to work with me on another date,” explained Nier. “It just so happened that he had another date available and I wanted to hit on it while it was hot. We put a lot of effort into advertising our ‘The Night The Stars Come Out’ and we lost that and it was a pretty big blow to us. We couldn’t get both (All Stars & Renegade) of them on the same page to reschedule ‘The Night The Stars Come Out’ but I got the next best thing, the All Stars this coming week (June 14) and the Renegade series coming in the very next week on the 21st.”

“Ideally I would have liked to have had them both on the same night so we could have capitalized on the advertising we already spent, but I feel good about what we’re doing.”

$5,000 to win will be on the line for the All Stars and Late Models will also be on the card for $3,000 to win. Hobby Stocks will also be in action. Gates will open at 4:30 with racing at 7:30 PM. Admission is $20 for adults, $30 for pits with ages 6-12 $5 and age 5 and under admitted free. The Haulmark All Stars were in action at K-C last season with three different race winners, Jeff Shepard, Paul McMahan and Chad Kemenah. The June 14 visit will be race #61 for the All Stars at the famed Chillicothe 3/8 mile high banked oval that is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Despite the disappointment over losing the double-sanctioned event, Nier has turned it into a positive and has gotten a good response to the rescheduling.

“I’ve got a lot of calls on it,” confirmed Nier. “We’re trying to get the word out there the best we can like talking to guys like you who are great for the series’ and talking to other people. But I’ve gotten a great response by having them back in. Hey, the All Stars haven’t been to this track since July 2. It’s been almost a year so I think the area is ready for it. I think the people are ready for a good Sprint show down here in southern Ohio and we’re going to give them one.”

Nier won’t have much time to rest after this coming weekend’s Haulmark All Star race as the Renegade Dirt Car Racing Series will be invading the following week with their own brand of throttle-stomping excitement that has become the norm for that series when they stop by KC Raceway.

Every Saturday night throughout the spring and summer K-C Raceway features great weekly racing in three divisions-Super Sprints, Late Models, AMRA Modifieds and Hobby Stocks.

Todd Kane Rampages to a Convincing Victory in the Super Sprint Action

CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Dawning new colors, but keeping that same pedal-to-the medal driving style, Powell, Ohio's Todd Kane rampaged to a convincing victory in the super sprint action at Ohio's fastest high-banked dirt track, the famed K-C Raceway. The Late Model action saw former Renegade STARS contender R.J. Conley beat out father and fellow Wheelersburg, Ohio native Delmas Conley in a Hatfield-McCoy family feud, while Bob Crace, Jr. of Chillicothe, returned to his home in victory lane in the modified A-main.

Kane in the KCB Trucking/ Graphic Creations #78 started on the outside pole alongside dash winner and last week's winner Jimmy Stinson. The first start saw up-and-coming driver George Hawkins loop his mount in turn two, setting the stage for another start. Like the initial start Kane powered into the lead and the more favorable high groove with Stinson close in tow.

Stinson maintained striking distance throughout the duration, but all eyes were on Keith Baxter as the hard-charging Chillicothe ace blasted his way to third ahead of Tony Kennedy and Eric Hysong. On lap six former feature winner Nick Naber suffered a flat tire and had some wing damage after a front chute skirmish, ending his bid for a second K-C win.

Kane's daredevil driving style thrilled the large crowd with each passing lap, but Stinson followed in the shadows with a similarly striking style. Kamikaze Kane continued to thread the needle through lapped traffic , but couldn't shake Stinson. Meanwhile, Tony Kennedy, the night's fast timer from Amanda, Ohio started to get hooked up and moved up to third, along with former champ Eric Hysong who anchored down fourth place in the Davey Groves Kriner Engines sprinter.

In the end Kane held on over Stinson, Tony Kennedy, Eric Hysong, Keith Baxter, Hud Horton, Tom Busch, Wes Harbour, and Eddie Slone.

R.J. Conley wasted no time in establishing himself as the man to beat with a clean sweep in the Late Model division. Delmas Conley tried all the tricks he knew from the years of experience in his illustrious career, but nothing could overcome the sheer dominance of his son. Mike Wilson was on the rebound to contend, along with Kenny Christy and Brian Eaton who were both strong in the initial stages of the race.

Easton had worked his way up to third before a lap 15 tangle with Christy that sent him to the tail. In the last ten laps, Bud Frazier who started 10th worked his way up to fourth place ahead of son Mark Frazier. That created a four way dual for third place, but Wilson edged out the eldest Frazier for track position.

R.J. Conley powered on to victory ahead of Delmas Conley, Mike Wilson, Bud Frazier, Mark Frazier, Kenny Christy, Aaron Bapst, Jeff Houser, Barry Doss, and Scott Edmisten.

Tim Brown cantered into the lead during the initial stages of the modified main event, but each lap Bob Crace, Jr. showed his nose both on the high and low side, mounting a building pressure on the driver of the leading #66 car. Brown, who won his heat, made some suspension changes during the week and appeared to be the man to beat.

His effort fell short of victory however, as on lap eight he got loose coming out of turn four as Crace slipped by to take the lead. With no place to go Jerry Lawson hit Brown a ton and eliminated both mounts for the evening. Mike Long was putting together one of his best runs of the year to anchor down second behind Crace. That pair was followed by Ben Adkins, Jay Helton, Rick Hensley, Dough Adkins, Gary Park, Robert Bobo, Lee Slusher, and Randy Anderson.

The race was called on a race track finish on the time limit with eleven of the fifteen laps in the books because of a grinding crash between Marvin Thimmes and Tony Journey, followed by a hard hit between Bud Faulkner and Randy Anderson. Faulkner was treated at the scene after his car spiraled high into the air before landing on all fours.

Behind Crace was Long, Ben Adkins, Jay Helton, Rick Hensley, Doug Adkins, Gary Park, Robert Bobo, Lee Slusher, Randy Anderson.

K-C Raceway will host the Open Wheel Shootout this coming Saturday, an event that features the 410 sprint cars and 305 sprint cars. There will be no late models nor modifieds on August 3.

K-C Raceway is located off SR 23 12 miles South of Chillicothe on Blaine Highway, and races each Saturday night throughout the summer and fall months.
