Raceway Seven Conneaut, Ohio

Barton, Hebing, and Bochek are winners in the First Annual Fall Classic at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (September 12, 2003) - The 2003 season came to a close on Friday night at Raceway 7 with the running of the First Annual Fall Classic. Dick Barton of Ashville, NY was the winner of the 50-lap Late Model main worth $5,000. Chuck Hebing from Ontario, NY was the Modified winner collecting $3,000. Scott Bochek from Cheswick topped the Open Stocks, picking up $1500.

The 50-lap Late Model Feature started with Ron Davies and Dick Barton on the front row as the top 12 starters in all of the mains redrew for their starting positions. Barton took command immediately as Davies fell back in the early going. Ryan Markham moved to second place on lap 2, as the yellow waved on lap 3. Jay Watson passed Davies on lap 5 to take third, as the yellow appeared again on lap 7. Watson moved to second on the restart, as Jim Dandy, Jr. moved to fifth. Yellows on laps 15 and 18 slowed the pace, as Barton still showed the way. The top five stayed the same through the halfway mark, but Davies regained third from Markham on lap 27 before the next caution period. Markham had trouble on the restart, as he would retire from the event. On the next restart on lap 29, Watson pushed very bad in turn two, dropping him all the way out of the top five. Barton would now be leading Dandy, Davies, Scott Gurdak, and Chris Hackett who pitted early in the event. Hackett moved to fourth on lap 31 before the final caution period of the race. Barton set sail on the final run to the finish, as he would take his second victory of the season by 1.516 seconds. For the 2003 champion who earned his fourth track title this season, the victory was his 31st all time victory at the track, leaving him two behind all-time leading winner Chub Frank. Watson and Dandy both dropped out in the closing laps. Davies would come back for second, as Hackett's charge through the field netted him third. Ed Carley was fourth, with Gurdak fifth. Bob Close, Alex Ferree, Dan Armbruster, Mark Osburn, and Brent Rhebergen completed the top ten.

Tim McCreadie and Dave Murdick led the 30-lap Modified Feature to the green flag with McCreadie taking the lead. Fourth starting Chuck Hebing moved to second before a yellow flag on lap 1. The two drivers raced for the lead on the restart, with Hebing making the pass to take the lead on lap 5. Restarts on laps 5, 6, and 8 slowed the pace, but the lap 8 caution period would be the final one of the race. From this point forward it would be all Hebing, as he raced away from the field in a convincing victory. The margin of victory was 6.075 seconds, and just 10 of 19 finishers were on the lead lap at the finish. McCreadie settled for second. Kevin Bolland from 12th starting spot made a late pass of Lonny Riggs to finish third. Ron Smoker was fifth, as Murdick, Tommy Kristyak, Andy Priest, Rex King, and Josh Skarzenski rounded out the top ten.

The 20-lap Open Stock Feature started with Danny Exley and Rusty Wheeler gaining front row spots from the redraw. Through a restart on lap 1, it was Wheeler showing the way from the drop of the green flag in a very competitive event. Fifth starting Darrell Bossard moved up to challenge, taking the lead from Wheeler on lap 6. There were a pair of yellows on lap 9, as Dave Ferringer would take the lead on the restart. Scott Bochek had advanced from 12th starting spot to second at this point, and took the lead on lap 11. Bossard regained second before the next yellow on lap 15, but exited the event in the closing laps. A final restart on lap 16 set up the run to the finish, as Bochek would score the win by 1.021 seconds. Rich Howell made a late charge to the front after starting ninth, netting second place money. Despite battling a smoking car, Rick Prosser charged from 16th starting spot for third. Bobby Whitling raced from 19th to finish fourth, as Exley was fifth. Gary Robinson, Pat Gorton, Mike Beck, Mike Stoneman, and Andy Buckley filled the top ten.

In preliminary action, for the 38 Late Models on hand Heat race winners were Jim Dandy, Jr., Greg Fenno, Ron Davies, and Dick Barton, as Lynn Geisler and Dan Armbruster took the Last Chance Races. A field of 39 Modifieds assembled, with Lonny Riggs, Chuck Hebing, Tim McCreadie, Tommy Kristyak winning Heat races. Last Chance Race wins went to Scott Gurdak and Tim Doran. With 70 Open Stocks on hand, Heat winners were Jeff Walters, Darrell Bossard, Rusty Wheeler, Danny Exley, Steve D'Apolito, and Russ Kapalin. Last Chance Race winners were Bobby Whitling, Matt Thomas, and Wade Mohawk.

All events for the Late Models and Modifieds were scored with the AMB-it computerized scoring system. The Stock Feature was the only one of their events where transponders were mandatory. The detailed results are available by visiting http://raceway7.mylaps.com/index.jsp on the web.

Headlining the program will be the Late Models, as they will compete in a 50-lap event paying $5000 to the winner. Returning to Raceway 7 for the first time since 1995 will be the DIRT-style Big Block Modifieds, as their 30-lap main will pay $3000 to the winner. An Open Stock class will compete as well, as the winner of their 20-lap main will earn $1500.

The pit and grandstand gates will open at 5:00 on Friday. Hot laps are scheduled to start at 6:30, and the first race is set to start at 7:30.

The Late Models have 29 drivers pre-entered. Among them are the 2003 Raceway 7 The Bolt Place Late Model champion Dick Barton. All of Raceway 7's top regular teams are entered, and many more entries are expected on race day.

A total of 31 Modified teams have entered, including most of the area's current track champions. Another of the Modified entrants is Lou Blaney, who raced at the track when the division was part of the weekly programs in the 1980's. The Open Stock division has totaled 53 pre-entries, from three states. Raceway 7 Fame Manufacturing Street Stock champion Darrell Bossard leads the entries received from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Top runners from many tracks around the area have entered, as this event is one of, if not the highest paying event ever in the area for the division.

Ron Davies wins the battle, but Dick Barton wins the war at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (August 29, 2003) - Ron Davies from Warren, PA was the winner of the 25-lap main event on Friday night at Raceway 7. The track championship was on the line, and it was Dick Barton claiming the Late Model title sponsored by The Bolt Place with a third place finish in the Feature event. The narrow margin of victory was 10 points, and had Barton fallen back one position in the race then the two racers would have ended in a tie.

Fan Appreciation Night with fireworks ended the weekly racing season with a pair of special events still left remaining. Randy Hall from Olean, NY clinched the Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mod title a week ago, but tonight added his tenth victory of the season. After being close several times, Mike Beck from Cambridge Springs, PA finally got his victory in the Fame Manufacturing Street Stock feature event, as Centerville, PA's Darrell Bossard clinched the title two weeks ago. Percy McDonald from Girard, PA was the winner in the J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stocks for his third of the season, as Jack Brown from Pierpont, Ohio is the season champion.

The 25-lap Feature for The Bolt Place Late Models had Todd Roncaglione and Ron Davies atop the starting grid, and Davies took the lead at the start. Early yellows on laps 1 and 2 slowed the pace, as Davies resumed in the lead on the restart. The battle was for second as Davies built a comfortable margin. Jim Dandy, Jr. was feeling pressure for second from eleventh starting Dick Barton, as he and Davies were also settling the point title. When the next yellow appeared on lap 12, Davies had a four-second lead that was wiped out. Barton moved to second on lap 13, as Dandy regained the position a lap later. Barton would soon feel heat from Dutch Davies and Dan Armbruster, as second through fifth was an intense battle for position. The final yellow appeared on lap 20 for Armbruster, as his car spun off the backstretch and clipped the base of a light pole while battling Dutch Davies. Ron Davies would lead the rest of the way to score his third win of the season and second straight. Dandy took second 1.822 seconds behind, as Barton claimed the title by finishing third. Dutch Davies was fourth, as Todd Roncaglione turned in a season best finish in fifth. Bruce Hordusky was sixth in his best finish of the season, as Scott Gurdak, Rick Briggs, Jay Watson, and Mark Osburn filled the top ten. Heat race winners were Kevin Santee, Bill Watson, and Ron Davies. The Last Chance Race winner was Ryan Markham.

Jim Frontz and Joel Watson brought the 20-lap Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mod Feature to the green flag with Frontz taking the early lead. Watson made the move on a lap 1 restart, and he would forge ahead on lap 2. Watson led through restarts on laps 4 and 5, but now had seventh starting Randy Hall up to challenge. Hall made the pass to take the lead on lap 8, as a yellow flag on that lap produced the final caution period of the event. In the remaining run to the finish, it was Hall showing the way for the remaining distance in scoring win number 10 of the season, matching his car number. Watson closed in at the end, but settled for second by 0.354 seconds for his best finish of the season. Dan McDonald in third was also a season's best run. Hugo Litwiler came from 19th to finish fourth, as Bill Thomas was fifth. Al Cressley, J.B. Dandy, Rick Robinson, Mike Potosky, and Mike Hess completed the top ten. Heat winners were Brian Douglas, Frontz, and Hall, as Litwiler took the Last Chance Race.

After being close on several occasions, Mike Beck finally captured his elusive victory in the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock Feature. After a pair of first lap mishaps, Matt Thomas pulled ahead of fellow front row starter Darrell Bossard in taking the early lead. Thomas showed the way through a lap 5 caution, and up until the race's final yellow on lap 8. Fourth starting Beck showed power on the restart, making the move to advance to the lead on lap 9. Leading the rest of the way, Beck's first win came by 0.369 seconds over Thomas. Rusty Wheeler was third ahead of Mike Kinney and point champ Bossard. Filling the top ten finishers were Ken Zimmer, Mike Stoneman, Jim McFadden, Russ Kapalin, and Tim Mann. Wheeler and Thomas won the Heats.

Percy McDonald capped his strong late-season run with his third 10-lap J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stock Feature win in the last four weeks. McDonald moved past Krystal Patrick on lap 2 and raced away from the field in the non-stop event. Patrick was close to winning on several occasions, but ended with her fourth runner-up finish of the season. Terry Lavery was third, with fourth going to Roy Moore, Jr. Point champion Jack Brown was fifth. McDonald and John Sousa took the Heats.

The Late Model, E-Mod, and Street Stock events are scored with the AMB-it computerized scoring system. The detailed results are available by visiting http://raceway7.mylaps.com/index.jsp on the web.

Ron Davies tops at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (August 22, 2003) - Ron Davies from Warren, PA was the winner of the 25-lap The Bolt Place Late Model Feature on Friday night at Raceway 7. With just one night of point racing remaining, Davies' second win of the season closes the gap and leaves him within striking distance of point leader Dick Barton in the battle for the track championship.

McMahon, O'Polka, Guelcher & Associates night was popular in the other divisions as point champions are already decided. In the Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mods, Ron Roncaglione from Linesville, PA drove to his first victory of the season as Randy Hall from Olean, NY clinched the division title. Mike Kinney from Geneva, Ohio was a first-time winner in the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks, as Darrell Bossard of Centerville, PA clinched the championship a week ago. Percy McDonald from Girard, PA took his second win of the season in the J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stocks, as Jack Brown of Pierpont, Ohio will be the division champion.

The 25-lap Feature for The Bolt Place Late Models had Jim Dandy, Jr. and Dan Armbruster lead a field of 28 cars to the green flag. Dandy nosed ahead at the start, and was ahead by inches on lap 2 as the first yellow flag appeared. Dandy led again on the restart, as fourth starting Ron Davies was ready to pounce on the leaders. Running third on lap 3, Davies powered to the front on lap 4 as a lap 5 incident on the front stretch eliminated Matt Urban. Armbruster took over second on the restart, but would find his way into trouble on lap 10 which dropped him from the event. The worst incident of the race occurred on lap 12, involving six cars. Up front it was still Davies showing the way, as Dandy and 11th starting Rob Blair gave chase. Late cautions on laps 20 and 22 bunched the field final times, but Davies was up to any challenges in winning the event by 0.980 seconds over Dandy. Blair was third, as Dutch Davies was fourth. Point leader Dick Barton started 25th on the grid, and charged to fifth. He will lead Ron Davies by 55 points going into Friday's final point race. Mark Osburn, Bill Cunningham, Scott Gurdak, Rich Gardner, and Bruce Hordusky rounded out the top ten. Heat winners were Dave Hess, Jr., Dutch Davies, and Blair.

Ron Roncaglione led every lap in winning his first 20-lap Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mod Feature of the season. From outside row one Roncaglione pulled ahead of Brian Douglas at the drop of the green, after a tangle between Jim Long and Tim Rhoades forced a red flag to separate their cars. Douglas left the event at a lap 6 yellow, as Jim Frontz moved to second. Justin Carlson moved to second on a lap 7 restart and kept close to Roncaglione's bumper. After a lap 11 restart, Rhoades had returned from the tail of the 28-car starting field to run in the top five, but he later fell back again with trouble. A pair of lap 13 cautions were the final ones of the event, and Roncaglione held off Carlson for the victory in the run to the checkered flag by 0.297 seconds. Frontz was third, as Chuck Steinle advanced from 21st starting position to finish fourth. Randy Hall came back from a pit stop to finish fifth, and earned enough points to clinch the division title. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Rick Robinson, Dan McDonald, Bill Thomas, Al Cressley, and J.B. Dandy. Heat race winners were Kari Gasser, Dale Applebee, and Carlson.

The lead changed several times in the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock Feature with Mike Kinney finally winning his first main event. Mike Stoneman and Jim McFadden led the field to green, as McFadden led early. Kinney started sixth, but was quickly up to second by lap 2, when the first yellow waved for a Mike Beck spin. The battle for the lead was on as the race restarted, as Kinney nosed ahead at the line on lap 5. McFadden was inches ahead the two rounds, as the yellow came back out on lap 7. Stoneman was able to take second on the restart, but Kinney regained the spot the next time before a restart on lap 9. Kinney's restart this time was much better, as he passed McFadden to take the lead on lap 10. Late restarts came on laps 11 and 12, but Kinney was not to be denied in picking up his first win by 2.075 seconds. Stoneman won the battle for second over Beck, who returned from the tail. McFadden was fourth, as Bruce Burlingame was fifth. Chad Stevenson, Rusty Wheeler, Kevin White, Matt Thomas, and point champion Darrell Bossard filled the top ten. Stevenson and Kinney were Heat winners.

Percy McDonald made a late move to the front to win his second 10-lap J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stock Feature. Terry Lavery led early, before a lap 3 caution period. Brad Watson made the pass to take the lead on lap 4, as he held command until a yellow on lap 8. On the restart, Watson and Jack Brown made contact with Watson spinning, as both drivers were sent to the tail of the field. McDonald inherited the lead, and held off Lavery for the win. Larry Ralston had his best finish of the season in third. Brown came back for fourth and earned the point championship. Phil Spackman was fifth. Brown and Krystal Patrick took the Heats.

Blair tops the ULMS Tri-State Series at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (August 15, 2003) - Making his way to the front in the closing laps, Rob Blair defended the honor of his sponsor Bossard-Crawford GM Store by winning their sponsored event on Friday night at Raceway 7. The ULMS Tri-State Series for Late Models competed in their fourth race of six that make up the Series, and the Titusville, PA driver captured his sixth The Bolt Place Late Model Feature victory of the season, this one worth $3000. Dave Hess, Jr. from Waterford, PA picked up his second win of the season in the Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mods. Also sponsored by Bossard-Crawford is Darrell Bossard from Centerville, PA, and his eleventh Feature win of the season clinched him the 2003 point championship in the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks with two weeks remaining. Point leader Jack Brown from Pierpont, Ohio extended his lead in the J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stocks, by winning his fifth Feature of the season.

The 30-lap Bossard-Crawford GM Store sponsored event for the ULMS Tri-State Series and The Bolt Place Late Models started with Bill Cunningham and Matt Urban on top of the starting grid. Urban took the lead at the start, as the first yellow appeared on lap 2 as Ron Davies stopped with trouble. Urban still led on the restart, as the yellow appeared again on lap 5 as Davies found himself in trouble for a second time. On the restart, Cunningham moved around Urban and would take over the lead on lap 6. Blair also got around Urban, and as a long green flag segment ensued it set up a war for the top spot between Cunningham and Blair. A bobble on lap 10 allowed Blair to pull even, and the side-by-side battle ended on lap 14 when Cunningham was finally able to nose back ahead. Cautions appeared on laps 20 and 21, as Cunningham resumed in the lead on the restart. His bid for his first track Late Model win ended on lap 26, when Blair was able to make the pass for the top spot. Blair raced home the winner by 1.167 seconds, as Cunningham settled for a close second. Dutch Davies was third, ahead of Urban and Greg Fenno. The rest of the top ten finishers were Dan Armbruster, David Scott, Dick Barton, Mark Osburn, and Mickey Wright. Barton holds a narrow point lead over Ron Davies with two events remaining. Heat winners over the 34-car field were Osburn, Urban, Bruce Hordusky, and Barton, as Ed Carley and Brent Rhebergen took the B-Main events.

Dave Hess, Jr. survived seven caution periods in winning his second 20-lap Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mod Feature of the season. From outside row 1, Hess moved to the point at the drop of the green and was never headed during the entire distance. Porter won the battle for second to collect his best finish of the season, 2.586 seconds behind. From 16th starting position, Rick Robinson forged forward to finish third. Al Cressley was involved in a lap 5 caution period, yet came back through the field to finish fourth. Starting 17th, J.B. Dandy was fifth. Mike Hess came from the final starting berth to finish sixth, as Chuck Steinle, Jim Frontz, Justin Carlson, and Dan McDonald filled the top ten. Point leader Randy Hall was eliminated in a lap 7 incident, but only needs to show up at the two final races to clinch the 2003 division title. In earlier action, Hess, Jr. set a new Track Record on the last lap of Heat 1, with a clocking of 19.478. Heat winners over the 33-car field were Hess, Jr., Mike Potosky, and Frontz, as the Last Chance Race went to Brent Rhebergen.

Mike Kinney and Mike Beck led the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock Feature to green with Beck taking the early lead. After yellows on laps 1 and 2, the race for the lead was on. Beck led lap 3, but a backstretch pass gave Kinney the lead on lap 4. Beck regained the lead with a turn four pass on lap 5, before another yellow flag appeared. During the caution period, a fire broke out in Kinney's engine compartment, ending his evening. This was the last caution of the race. Beck showed the way on the restart as eighth starting Darrell Bossard was up to challenge. Bossard used a turn two pass on the inside to take the lead on lap 12, and raced home with win number 11 of the season. With two events remaining, Bossard has accumulated enough points to clinch the division point championship. Beck was a close second, 0.377 seconds behind the winner. Jim McFadden was third, with Mike Stoneman fourth. Fifth went to Pat Gorton, as Rusty Wheeler, Tim Mann, Ken Zimmer, Tom Bradler, and Kevin White rounded out the top ten. Heat winners were Matt Thomas and Bossard.

Point leader Jack Brown captured his fifth victory of the season in the 10-lap J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stock Feature. From the pole position, Brown took the lead at the drop of the green flag as early cautions waved on laps 2 and 4. Brian Watson posed a challenge to Brown in the closing laps until a half-spin on lap 8 dropped him back. From there, Brown had no problems racing home to the finish. Krystal Patrick was second ahead of Terry Lavery, Todd Burlingame, and Watson. Percy McDonald and Patrick took the Heats.

The Late Model, E-Mod, and Street Stock events are scored with the AMB-it computerized scoring system. The detailed results are available by visiting http://raceway7.mylaps.com/index.jsp on the web.

Raceway 7 announces plans for First Annual Fall Classic

Conneaut, OH (August 13, 2003) - Raceway 7 near Conneaut, Ohio is announcing plans for their season ending race, the "First Annual Fall Classic."

"I have been wanting to have a big race at the end of the season for a couple of years now," said Raceway 7 Owner/Promoter Ron Nielson. "So this year we decided to go ahead and do it."

The "First Annual Fall Classic" will take place on Friday, September 12. Headlining the program will be the Late Models, racing in a 50-lap event that will pay $5,000 to winner. Also in competition will be the DIRT-type Modifieds, as their 30-lap feature event that day will pay $3,000 to win. An Open Stock class will also be on the card, as their 20-lap event will pay $1500 to the winner. Nearly $50,000 will be paid out to competitors in the event.

The gates will open that day at 5:00, with practice laps starting at 6:30. Racing will begin at 7:30. The grandstand General Admission fee for adults will be $15, and the pit fee will be $30.

Competitors wishing to compete in the event are urged to enter the event in advance. The entry fee for all divisions is $30. The advantage to pre-entering for the event is that if the entry is postmarked by September 5 and received by September 7, the entry fee will cover the cost of the driver's Pit admission fee. Any entries after that time will not cover the pit fee, so teams should act quickly if they plan on competing.

The Raceway 7 weekly racing season runs through the final weekend of the month of August, when point competition comes to a close. On Friday, September 5, the E-Mods compete in a York Series sanctioned race of 100 laps, and the Sprint car class is in competition also sanctioned by the York Triathlon Series. Then the "First Annual Fall Classic" will complete the 2003 racing season.

For more information on the "First Annual Fall Classic," including rules and an entry blank for competitors to fill out, please visit the Raceway 7 website at www.raceway7.com or call Race Director Rich Berry at 330-797-0147.

Randy Hall tops the York Series, Dutch Davies repeats at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (August 8, 2003) - The Triathlon Racing Series brought a field of 43 York E-Mods to Raceway 7 on Friday night for the running of the Fifth Annual "Buckeye Challenge," sponsored by General Aluminum. Randy Hall from Olean, NY held off a late challenge from Dave Hess, Jr. in scoring the win. Hall leads the points for the York Series and for the Raceway 7 Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mods, so his ninth track win of the season was not a surprise to the competition. A strong field of 31 Late Models assembled, and for the second time this season it was Dutch Davies from Warren, PA scoring his second The Bolt Place Late Model victory of the season. Winning his first Feature of the season in the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks was Mike Stoneman from Ashtabula, Ohio. It was also a first win of the season for Percy McDonald from Girard, PA in the J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stocks.

The 25-lap Feature for The Bolt Place Late Models started with Jim Mazur and Dutch Davies leading the field to green. The event got off to a slow start, as two complete restarts were required. A six-car tangle slowed the first try, and a five-car tangle slowed the second. Finally on the third try the race started with Brent Rhebergen nosing ahead of Davies in taking the early lead. Davies kept up the pressure, and gained the lead on lap 4. A caution period on lap 8 slowed the pace, before another big tangle on lap 9 forced the red flag. Point leader Dick Barton spun while running fourth, collecting three other cars. Barton was done for the event in finishing 18th, but he actually extended his point lead over Ron Davies who was eliminated in the first lap incident, finishing 24th. Greg Fenno, Bruce Hordusky, Mickey Wright were also eliminated. Dutch Davies resumed in the lead when the green waved again, as Rhebergen lost second to Rob Blair on lap 11. Blair did his best to try to close on Davies, though the lead remained at least around one second. A final caution waved on lap 20, but when the competition battled for second it allowed Davies to race away to his second win of the season, this one by 0.765 seconds. Rhebergen moved to second on the final restart, and collected his best finish of the season in the process. Blair was third, as Andy Kania also got his best finish of the season in fourth. Dave Hess, Jr. was fifth, as Dan Armbruster, Mark Osburn, Scott Gurdak, Bill Cunningham, and Rich Gardner completed the top ten. Heat winners were Cunningham, Armbruster, and Matt Urban, as Gardner took the Last Chance Race.

Dave Hess, Jr. and Ron Roncaglione led the field to the green flag of the Fifth Annual Buckeye Challenge by General Aluminum for the York Series and Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mods. Caution laps were to count for the first 20 laps of the 40-lap main, and it was Hess taking the lead at the initial drop of the green flag. Sixth starting Randy Hall was quickly on the move, taking second by lap 3. The first yellow came on lap 8, with racing resuming on lap 12. A five-car tangle slowed the race on lap 14, as did a ten-car incident on lap 20. The battle for the lead was intense on the restart, as Hess now felt the heat from Hall. At the line on lap 24, Hall nosed ahead at the line by inches, officially 0.008 of a second. When the yellow came out later on that lap, it put Hall in the lead on the restart. A final caution came on lap 29, as Hall again held command of the event. Hess closed in on the final lap and made a strong challenge, but Hall held on for the win. Hess was a close second, 0.159 seconds behind at the line. Mike Hess ran a solid race for third, ahead of Mike Potosky and Roncaglione. Doug Glessner's long trip from Johnstown, PA netted him sixth, as Justin Carlson, Jeff Rudrick, Bill Thomas, and Kari Gasser completed the top ten. With 43 York Series entries, Heat winners were Carl McKinney, Roncaglione, Brian Douglas, Hess, Jr., and Carlson. Hess, Jr. took the Dash, as Jim Frontz and Brent Rhebergen were B-Main winners.

Pat Gorton and Mike Stoneman led the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock Feature to green with Stoneman grabbing the lead at the start. The first yellow waved on lap 2 for a Mike Beck spin while he was running third. Charlie Beck took second place on a lap 3 restart as Stoneman remained in command. Gorton regained second on a lap 11 restart, with the final yellow appearing on lap 12. Stoneman would inch away on the final restart, taking the victory by 0.812 seconds. Gorton's run for second was her best finish of the season. Mike Beck returned from the tail to finish third, dropping his father Charlie to fourth. Jim McFadden took fifth. Point leader Darrell Bossard was sixth, as he can clinch the 2003 championship in next week's program. Filling the rest of the top ten were Mike Kinney, Matt Thomas, Dr. John Hobbs, and Rich Bates. Thomas and Mike Beck took the Heats.

After finishing second the past two weeks, Percy McDonald finally improved his position one spot in winning the 10-lap J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stock Feature. McDonald moved to the point at the drop of the green from the pole position, and after the event's lone caution on lap 2, he raced away from the field in his winning drive. Krystal Patrick won the battle for second after Brad Watson spun on the last lap. Point leader Jack Brown started scratch in the 17-car field, but advanced to third to secure his edge in the standings. Terry Lavery was fourth, with Todd Burlingame fifth. Heats went to Watson and Roy Moore, Jr.

The Late Model, E-Mod, and Street Stock events are scored with the AMB-it computerized scoring system. The detailed results are available by visiting http://raceway7.mylaps.com/index.jsp on the web.

Matt Urban takes General Aluminum win at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (August 1, 2003) - A classic battle for the lead ended with Matt Urban from North East, PA winning the Feature event for The Bolt Place Late Models on Friday night at Raceway 7. Urban's duel with Greg Fenno was settled off of the final turn of the final lap, as Urban rode the outside lane to a $3000 payday, courtesy of General Aluminum. It was his first victory of the season, and ninth of his Late Model career, tying him for 16th on the All-Time list with Dave Hoffman.

Other winners on General Aluminum Night included Randy Hall from Olean, NY, who captured his eighth Feature win of the season in the Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mods. Rusty Wheeler from Dorset, OH was in the right place at the right time to score his second victory of the season in the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks. Jack Brown from Pierpont, OH captured his fourth win of the year in the J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stock main.

The 25-lap Feature for The Bolt Place Late Models started with Matt Urban and Scott Johnson atop the starting grid. A first lap tangle in turn four eliminated the cars of Rob Blair, Mickey Wright, Ryan Markham, Mark Osburn, and Bruce Hordusky. Urban took the lead as the race started, but the next yellow would wave on lap 1. Racing quickly resumed with Urban leading, and Johnson and Dick Barton giving chase. Urban's lead was nearing three seconds when the next yellow waved on lap 10 for a Ron Davies spin. This would be the final restart, and Urban remained in front as the race continued. Barton moved to second on the restart, as 15th starting Greg Fenno was the man on the move taking third. Fenno would get second on lap 13, setting his sights on the leader. With Urban running high, Fenno moved low and closed on the leader. With five laps remaining the lead battle was intense. Fenno nosed ahead on the backstretch on lap 21, but Urban would lead at the line. The two cars crossed the line side-by-side as the white waved, with Urban ahead by inches. Fenno got the good run down the backstretch to nosed ahead, but a last turn bobble allowed Urban to win the race to the line by .374 seconds. Johnson raced back to finish third. Jim Dandy, Jr. started last in the 25-car starting fierld, but charged up to finish fourth. Barton held on to his point lead by finishing fifth. Bill Watson, Chub Frank, Scott Gurdak, Chris Hackett, and Dutch Davies completed the top ten. Heat winners were Hackett, Urban, and Johnson, as Frank took the Last Chance Race.

Randy Hall made a late move to the front to claim win number eight this season in the 20-lap Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mod Feature. Hugo Litwiler and Mike Hess led the field to green, as Litwiler moved ahead after a complete restart slowed the pace. Hess and Bill Thomas swapped second before a lap 5 restart, then Hess would gain hold of the position. The race would go to lap 13 for the next yellow, but many yellows would dot the late stages of this event. Hall had started 11th, but was third as lap 13 was scored. Hall took second on lap 14, but Litwiler still remained in command. Hall made the pass for the lead on lap 16, as Litwiler later got in trouble under the caution to end his run. Point leader Hall would lead through a final restart to take the win by .435 seconds. Hess held off the challenge of Mike Potosky to get runner-up honors. Al Cressley was fourth, with Ron Roncaglione fifth. Filling the top ten positions were Dale Applebee, Brian Douglas, Jim Frontz, Joe Smith, and Chuck Steinle. Applebee, Hall, and Cressley took Heat wins.

Rusty Wheeler cashed in on Mike Beck's misfortune to win the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock Feature. Dr. John Hobbs and Tim Mann led the field to green, as "The Racing Veterinarian" took the early lead. Wheeler moved up to pass Hobbs for the top spot just before the first caution period on lap 4. Beck moved to second on the restart, and passed Wheeler to take the lead on lap 6. Through restarts on laps 9 and 12, Beck remained firmly in command of the event as it went green for a final time. As the field was coming for the white flag, Beck's car spun off of turn four and coasted quietly into the infield, as Wheeler drove by and on to the victory. Jim McFadden was second .386 seconds behind, as point leader Darrell Bossard was third. Fourth went to Bruce Burlingame. Charlie Beck was fifth, as Hobbs, Ken Zimmer, Tom Bradler, Mann, and Karen Shank rounded out the top ten. Heat winners were Mike Beck and McFadden.

Point leader Jack Brown maintained his lead in the standings with his fourth 10-lap J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stock Feature win of the season. Brown passed Todd Burlingame for the lead on lap 3, and survived a lap 5 caution period in driving to victory. Percy McDonald took second, ahead of Burlingame, Marv Wilkinson, and John Sousa. McDonald and Terry Lavery took the Heats.

On our July 25 program, there was a mistake made in the E-Mod feature event. Eventual winner Dave Hess, Jr. and eventual runner-up Randy Hall were ruled as being light at the scales after the race. This was actually found to be in error, as their cars did in fact make weight. At the time, Al Cressley was moved up to be awarded the win. Instead of taking that win away, he and Hess will each earn winners shares. Hall had finished ahead of second place finisher Ron Roncaglione, so he will also be credited as finishing second. The drivers have been credited with the points for those finishes. Raceway 7 would like to apologize to all of the race teams involved for the error.

Dutch Davies gets a gift from Santa Claus, with a last lap pass of his brother. The gift is the $3000 topless ULMS Tri-State Series win at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (July 25, 2003) - Dutch Davies from Warren, PA used a last lap pass of his brother to claim the $3,000 top prize in the Roberts Trucking sponsored ULMS Tri-State Series event on Friday night at Raceway 7. Davies first victory of the season and second of his career here came in the annual Raceway 7 event where the cars run topless, without their roofs.

It was Coca-Cola Christmas in July night, and Santa Claus was on hand to greet all of the winners. Santa delivered some unexpected gifts, as in all four of tonight's features, the race leader with three laps remaining did not win the event. Al Cressley from Pittsfield, PA was awarded his first victory in the Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mods, as the division raced topless for the first time. Darrell Bossard notched his tenth win of the season in the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks with a last lap pass. A late race pass also netted Brad Watson of Kingsville, OH his third season win in the J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stocks.

The Roberts Trucking sponsored 30-lap Feature for the ULMS Tri-State Series and The Bolt Place Late Models started with Scott Johnson and Mark Osburn leading 24 topless cars to the green flag. It would be a caution-filled affair, as nine waved in the 30-lap distance. Osburn nosed ahead at the start, as the first slowdown came on lap 2. Back to green it was Osburn leading Johnson, as Bob Close ran in the third position. Dick Barton fell back early after starting third, but retook the position on lap 9. Osburn nosed ahead early in the green flag run, but Johnson moved in to challenge as the laps clicked by. The second caution period would show on lap 14, ending the long run of green. Barton grabbed second on the restart before another caution waved. After another restart on lap 16, the lead battle continued with Barton trying to find a way around Osburn. On lap 19, Barton tried a lane change from the top groove to the bottom in turn four, but twisted the car too hard and did a slow spin to force another caution and relegate him to the rear. Ron Davies would now be second, after starting 15th on the grid. Osburn still led on the restart, as Davies would squeeze by at the flag to take the lead on lap 22. The yellow flag appeared a lap later for Close, who was running third at the time. On this restart, Dutch Davies now took second from Osburn as the yellow appeared again another lap later. Back to green on lap 24, the final caution period showed on lap 27 and the Davies brothers would now settle the race between themselves. Ron held the lead as the final green showed, but Dutch was working him hard in an effort to pass. Dutch turned in the fastest lap of the race on lap 28 as he closed in on his older brother. Ron led at the white flag as Dutch moved to the outside in an effort to pass. Completing the pass on the outside, Dutch would lead only one lap of the race, but it was the important one as he collected the $3,000 victory by .267 seconds. Dan Armbruster advanced from 17th to finish third, with Ed Carley fourth. Barton came back to finish fifth and retained his narrow track point lead over Ron Davies. Johnson faded to sixth, with Dave Hess, Jr., Chad Ruhlman, Brent Rhebergen, and Mickey Wright rounding out the top ten. With 34 entrants, Heat winners were Close, Johnson, Barton, and Kirk Bradley. Last Chance Race winners were Armbruster and Jay Watson.

The 20-lap Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mod Feature started with Al Cressley pulling ahead of Lee Patrick at the start. The first of several caution periods showed on lap 1. Seventh starting Dave Hess, Jr. passed Cressley on a lap 4 restart to take the lead. By lap 9, Mike Hess was up to third place after being involved in the lap 1 caution, but he later left the event. Dale Applebee, Cressley, and Jim Frontz all swapped second place between mid-race caution periods, as Applebee dropped from the race on lap 12. From lap 12, the race ran to the white flag before a final caution flag waved. Hess, Jr. led the final lap to cross the line as the apparent victor, but came up light at the scales. This moved Cressley up to the race winner. Point leader Randy Hall was next across, but he too was light at the scales. Ron Roncaglione from 13th starting spot would finally get the runner-up honors. Rick Robinson came from 20th to get third, as Frontz faded to fourth. Mike Watson earned a season's best finish in fifth. Sixth went to Kari Gasser, as Bill Thomas, Jeff Shank, Patrick, and Jim Long filled the top ten. Heat winners were Hess, Jr., Hall, and Frontz, as Gasser took the Last Chance Race.

Rusty Wheeler and Brian Johnson led the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock Feature to the green flag with Wheeler taking the early lead. Two caution periods slowed the event in the first part of the race, on laps 2 and 5. The restart on lap 5 was the final one of the event as it was still Wheeler showing the way. Seventh starting Brian Douglas was now up to challenge Wheeler for the lead. With a pass on the home stretch, Douglas would be the new leader on lap 9. Point leader Darrell Bossard was fourth at this point after starting tenth, but he moved to third a lap later. Bossard passed Wheeler on lap 12 and now set his sights on Douglas as race traffic was now an issue. Bossard closed in as the white flag waved, and made a bid to the inside of Douglas off of turn four coming to the checkered flag. Bossard was a nose ahead at the flag, as his tenth win of the season came by a mere .010 seconds. Wheeler was third over Bruce Burlingame and Chad Stevenson. The rest of the top ten finishers were Tim Mann, Mike Harmon, Pat Gorton, Ken Zimmer, and Tom Bradler. Heat winners were Mike Stoneman and Douglas.

Brad Watson scored his third win of the season in the 10-lap J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stock Feature. Starting fifth, Watson moved up early in the event to challenge race leader Percy McDonald at the halfway mark. The two drivers went side-by-side on lap 7, with Watson taking the lead for good on lap 8. McDonald settled for second ahead of point leader Jack Brown, Roy Moore, Jr., and Terry Lavery. McDonald and Lavery took the Heats.

Hackett wins at Raceway 7 with last lap pass of Frank

Conneaut, OH (July 18, 2003) - Chris Hackett from Erie, PA made a last lap pass of Chub Frank to win the thrilling 25-lap The Bolt Place Late Model Feature on Friday night at Raceway 7. Lakeview Ford Night was a busy night with regular and makeup Features from July 4 for both the E-Mods and Street Stocks. In the Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mods, Mike Potosky from Guys Mills, PA won the makeup Feature for his first career win, and Hugo Litwiler from Linesville, PA took the nightcap. In the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks, Rusty Wheeler from Dorset, OH took the makeup with Darrell Bossard from Centerville, PA winning the regular event. Brad Watson from Kingsville, OH took the Feature win in the J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stocks.

The 25-lap Feature for The Bolt Place Late Models started with Chris Hackett and Ryan Markham leading the field to the green flag. The race would go quick as the 25-lap distance would be run non-stop without any caution periods. Hackett would lead the first lap, but Chub Frank was quickly on the move on the high groove after starting fourth. Frank took the lead on lap 2 but Hackett was not through working the inside. It was a side-by-side war for the top position, but Frank continued to lead at the line. Hackett nosed ahead to lead lap 9, but Frank went back ahead on the next lap. At halfway it was still Frank nosing Hackett, with Markham still riding third. Rob Blair from 11th starting spot had just taken fourth from Dick Barton, but the leaders were starting to encounter race traffic. The leaders had trouble negotiating the race traffic, keeping the fans on their feet. Frank had the lead with five laps to go but Hackett again closed in. Changing his strategy, Hackett made a move to the outside and would take the lead on lap 23. Frank would lead by inches on lap 24, but Hackett would nose ahead through turns one and two. Frank made one last bid to the outside through the final turns, but Hackett would hold on for his third career Raceway 7 victory and his second this season. The 25-lap distance was completed in less than a second under eight minutes, with the margin of victory being .358 seconds. Markham held on for third, with Blair fourth. Barton retained his point lead by finishing fifth, as Dutch Davies, Ron Davies, Bill Watson, Matt Lux, and Matt Urban completing the top ten. With a field of 35 cars on hand, Heat winners were Jim Dandy, Jr., Markham, Watson, and Hackett. Last Chance Race winners were Urban and Bill Cunningham. Dandy established a new Track Record lap on lap 2 of Heat 1, with a clocking of 17.487.

With 27 of the 30 cars on hand starting the 20-lap Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mod Feature, action was hot and heavy. Ron Roncaglione and Jim Long led the field to green, as Roncaglione took the early lead. Hugo Litwiler was quickly on the move from third starting position, and he grabbed the lead on lap 2 before the first caution period of the event. Roncaglione was still second on the restart, but sixth starting Randy Hall passed to take the spot on lap 4. Point leader Hall would go no further, as his car rolled to a stop in turn two to bring out another yellow flag. Fifth starting Jim Frontz moved up to take second on the restart, but Roncaglione kept up his efforts to regain the spot. Green flag racing was the order of the day from lap 5 to lap 15, as Litwiler pulled away from the field. A final caution period would appear on lap 16, and Litwiler would remain in command over the closing laps to collect his first victory of the season by 1.194 seconds. Roncaglione would take second, nailing down his best finish of the season. Bill Thomas also scored a season best finish of third, as Dale Applebee was fourth. Frontz faded to fifth in the closing laps, as Chuck Steinle, Al Cressley, Howard Fraley, Mike Hess, and Chuck List filled the top ten. Frontz, Thomas, and Hall took the Heat wins.

Ron Roncaglione and Kari Gasser led the makeup 20-lap Biscotti's Restaurant E-Mod Feature to the green flag, but Mike Potosky quickly moved from third starting position to lead lap 1. Only a first lap tangle that forced a complete restart would slow the pace in this race, as the 20 laps raced off without another caution period. Hugo Litwiler passed Roncaglione for second on lap 5, but Potosky had already built a three-second lead. Race traffic would then be an issue, as Potosky still held a two-second lead at halfway. The second half of the event would remain the same, as Potosky worked race traffic to perfection. At the checkered flag, Potosky earned his first Raceway 7 victory by 2.463 seconds over Litwiler. Al Cressley was third, as Randy Hall advanced from 21st starting spot to finish fourth. Dale Applebee was fifth, as Bill Thomas, Gasser, Jim Frontz, J.B. Dandy, and Rick Robinson rounded out the top ten.

The regular 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock Feature had Darrell Bossard and Tom Bradler atop the starting grid, as Bossard quickly built a comfortable lead. After the only yellow flag of the race appeared on lap 6, Bossard would now feel a challenge from Brian Douglas. Despite the pressure, point leader Bossard would remain in front as he went on to score his ninth Feature win of the season. Douglas finished a close second, .747 seconds behind the winner. Rusty Wheeler was third with Jim McFadden fourth. Fifth was Mike Stoneman, as the top ten was filled by Chad Stevenson, Pat Gorton, Mike Beck, Charlie Beck, and Tim Mann. McFadden and Stoneman took the Heats.

Like the later feature, the makeup 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stock Feature was also a clean run event. Tom Bradler and Mike Kinney led the field to the green flag, as Kinney took the lead at the start. Rusty Wheeler passed Bradler to take second on lap 6, as Kinney remained in command. Lap 7 would see the only restart of the race, as point leader Darrell Bossard got into trouble. Wheeler had a good restart, and he was able to take the race lead on lap 8. Brian Douglas took second on lap 9, and tried to mount a challenge to Wheeler. As the laps clicked by, Wheeler drove away from the competition and would post his first victory 2.643 seconds ahead of Douglas. Kinney was third ahead of Mike Stoneman and Jim McFadden. The rest of the top ten finishers were Pat Gorton, Bossard, Bruce Burlingame, Charlie Beck, and Tim Mann.

Jack Brown and Phil Spackman led the 10-lap J 'n D Door Company Hobby Stock Feature to the green flag as Brown took the early lead. Sixth starting Brad Watson moved up to challenge Brown as the two earlier Heat race winners would decide this event. The leaders went side-by-side on lap 5, and even made some light contact. Watson made an inside move in turn four work, and he would take the lead on lap 7. Once in front, there was no stopping Watson as he posted his second win of the season. Point leader Brown was second ahead of Spackman, Steve Horvath, and Terry Lavery.
