AUGUST IS "BADDEST OF THE BAD" MONTH AT RIVERVIEW SPEEDWAY
by Jim West
The dog-days of summer are here with the arrival of August and this
is the time of year that things really start heating up at Riverview Speedway,
371 Dixon Springs Highway in Carthage. There are 5 Saturdays in the month
of August this year and each one will bring a special and exciting big
race to Riverview Speedway.
August 2003 is "Baddest of the Bad" month at Riverview Speedway
with 5 races in addition to our regular program that will be for the Tennessee
State Championship.
It all starts this Saturday, August 2nd with the Amerigas Open Wheel Modifieds
as they race for the Tennessee State Championship at Riverview Speedway
for the 2nd consecutive year. This Saturday's race is scheduled for 50
laps as are all the Tennessee State Championship races. As always gates
open at 3pm with time trials at 6pm and the racing program beginning at
7pm. Open Wheel Modifieds from all over Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama
will be on hand to race for the Tennessee State Championship trophy.
"Baddest of the Bad" month continues on Saturday, August 9th
when Four Runners (our four cylinder class) from all over Tennessee come
to Riverview Speedway to race for their Tennessee State Championship.
A large group from Alabama have committed to run in this race in addition
to the boys from around Tennessee.
On Saturday, August 16th the First Southern Financial Sportsman cars will
take to the track for their Tennessee State Championship race. The Sportsman
race will also be the 1st Annual "Toys-For-Tots" benefit race
at Riverview Speedway. All race fans that bring a new, unwrapped toy for
donation will get into General Admission at half price on August 16th.
Riverview Speedway hopes that race fans from all over Tennessee come on
out and support this fine charity by bringing a toy out that night.
The "Big Boys", the Late Models, will be running their 50-lap,
Tennessee State Championship Race on Saturday, August 23rd. Late Models
from upwards of 4 different states are slated to be on hand for this,
the biggest Late Model race of the year at Riverview Speedway. Fans are
in for a treat as the best of Riverview Speedway take on the best from
other area tracks and from tracks out-of-state in what will truly be the
"Baddest of the Bad".
Last, but not least, the Regina White, EA Tax Service Mini-Cups will be
in the spotlight on Saturday, August 30th for race #3 of 4 for the Tennessee
State Championship, sponsored by Grooms Engines of Nashville. This race
will be part of Riverview Speedway's Labor Day weekend festivities.
Riverview Speedway hopes that all the race fans from around Tennessee
come on out in the month of August to watch the "Baddest of the Bad"
heat things up every Saturday night!
In action on Saturday night, Daniel Victory's string on 9 consecutive
First Southern Financial Sportsman feature wins came to an end as Harold
Sloan of Huntsville, Alabama took the checkered flag in what was the most
exciting Sportsman race of the year. Victory was challenged early in the
race by Dale Shoulders of Hartsville who took over the lead on lap number
10. By lap 14 Shoulders began to fade as he experienced mechanical troubles
for the 2nd straight week. This opened the door for Sloan to move up to
challenge Victory. On lap 18 Sloan overtook Victory and held on to take
the win, his first career win at Riverview Speedway.
In other action Saturday night..Jamie Summers of Franklin, KY won the
Late Model Feature for the 2nd straight week; James Mehaffey of Lebanon
won the Tri-State Racing Equipment Four Runner Feature; Jimmy Victory
of Mt. Juliet won the Amerigas Open Wheel Modified Feature; Clay Alexander
of Franklin won the Regina White, EA Tax Service Mini-Cup Feature; Mitch
White of Hartsville won the Citizen's bank of Hartsville Nas-Kart Feature;
and David Ring of Columbia won the Dwarf Car feature. One final note,
Late Model driver, Zach Taylor of Hartsville, set a new Late Model time
trial record of 10.42 seconds, breaking his old record on 10.54 seconds
back on July 12th. The time equates to an average speed of 86 MPH.

Big Independence Day Weekend Planned At Riverview Speedway
By Jim West
Saturday, July 5th. Riverview Speedway will be celebrating the Independence
Day weekend in a big way with special events planned throughout the day.
This Saturday, July 5th., Riverview Speedway will kickoff the day with
a race car and auto show at Finish Line Auto Detail & Customizing,
located at 510 Main Street in Carthage, across the street from Sonic.
The show is free to the public and will be from 9am - 1pm. Many of the
cars that race at Riverview Speedway will be on display as well as many
of the show cars that Finish Line has created in the last few years. This
will be a great opportunity for race fans to see some of the cars that
race at Riverview Speedway up close and it's also an opportunity for the
fans to meet many of the fine drivers that race every Saturday night.
Many of the show cars on display will be making several parade laps during
intermission at the races on Saturday night.
Later in the day Riverview Speedway will be running it's weekly Saturday
night racing program. This Saturday night, July 5th., Riverview Speedway's
racing program will start one hour later than normal at 7pm. A full Saturday
program will still be held. The later start gives everyone a better opportunity
to enjoy his or her Saturday afternoon during the holiday weekend.
One of the many specials going on at Riverview Speedway this Saturday
include "Tennessee Campground Night". This Saturday, July 5th.,
any campers who are camping at any of the many fine campgrounds located
throughout Tennessee that bring their campground receipt will get into
General Admission at half price. So if you are camping out this weekend
make an outing at Riverview Speedway part of your camping plans.
Riverview Speedway will also be having bicycle races for the kids during
intermission this Saturday night. If you have a child 13 years of age
or less with a one speed bike and a bicycle helmet, bring them down this
Saturday night and Riverview Speedway will put them on the track during
intermission for a special race with rewards going out to the winners.
Many special racing events are on the racing program for this Saturday
night, July 5th. The Late Model Stock Cars will be running for $1,000
to win and $100 to start, sponsored by R&N Motors of Nashville. The
Sportsman cars will be running for $500 to win and a $50 prize for the
fastest qualifier sponsored by Thompson Mechanical of Castalian Springs.
The Open Wheel Modifieds will be running for $500 to win and the Mini
Cups will be participating in race #2 of 4 of the Tennessee State Championship
Series sponsored by Grooms Engines of Nashville, which pays $300 to win.
The Nas Karts and Four Runners will also be on the racing schedule, plus
it's double points for all car classes making this Saturday night a very
special night of racing at Riverview Speedway. Riverview Speedway hopes
that everyone includes a night of racing at the "Fastest Quarter
Mile in the Southeast" in their 4th. of July weekend plans.
Jamie Summers of Franklin, Kentucky wins Late Model Feature for 3rd
consecutive week
This past Saturday night Jamie Summers of Franklin, Kentucky won the Late
Model Feature for the 3rd consecutive week. Summers was torn down by Tech
following the race and was found to be legal. Daniel Victory of Smyrna won
the First Southern Financial Sportsman Feature and also was torn down by
Tech and found to be legal. Frankie Martin made the four-hour drive up from
Birmingham, Alabama and went home with a trophy and the top prize money
as he won the Amerigas Open Wheel Modified Feature. Freddy Bandy of Lafayette
won his first Regina White, EA Tax Service Mini-Cup Feature of the year
then promptly sold his car at the end of the night to the Ward family. James
Mehaffey of Lebanon took first place in the Tri-State Racing Equipment Four
Runner (4 cylinder) division. David Ring of Columbia won the Dwarf Car Feature.
The "feel-good" story of the night this past Saturday night
at Riverview Speedway was the Citizen's Bank of Hartsville Nas-Kart Feature.
This past Saturday night was the historic 100th consecutive Nas-Kart Feature
at Riverview Speedway, the longest current streak of consecutive Saturday
nights of racing of any car class dating back to 1999 on the old track.
It was a homecoming of sorts as many of the Nas-Kart drivers who had raced
at Riverview Speedway in the past were on hand for this major event. Notables
included 2002 Points Champion John Young of Hartsville , 2000 & 2001
Points Champion Zach Taylor of Hartsville, 1999 Points Champion Bobby
Joe Lane of Donelson, and series founder Rick Parsley of Goodlettesville.
The night was a night where the Nas-Karts came full-circle. Bobby Joe
Lane won the first ever Nas-Karts Feature back in May of 1999 and last
Saturday night Lane fought off stiff competition to take the checkered
flag in the historic 100th event. Lane also took home the fastest qualifier
award presented by Citizen's Bank of Hartsville. It was also a night were
the old met the new as the race included 7 drivers who are currently running
in their first season in the Nas-Kart division. It is Riverview Speedway's
wish that the Nas-Karts continue to thrive and we all look forward to
the 200th consecutive running, which would be run sometime in early 2007.

SUMMERS WINS, GOES POLE-TO-POLE AT RIVERVIEW SPEEDWAY
by Jim West
Jamie Summers of Franklin, KY won the Late Model Feature for the 2nd
week in a row at Riverview Speedway, 371 Dixon Springs Highway in Carthage
this past Saturday night. Summers started on the pole and led the entire
race.
The Late Model Feature was unusual, in that the race was very “follow-the-leader”
like. Jamie Summers led the entire 40 laps and Zach Taylor of Hartsville,
who finished 2nd, was in 2nd place the entire race. Tony Formosa, who
finished 3rd, held 3rd position the entire race as well. A normal Late
Model feature at Riverview Speedway has several lead changes and position
changes throughout the field. This past Saturday their were very few.
Summers is the current points leader in the Late Model division at Riverview
Speedway.
The First Southern Financial Sportsman Feature had Daniel Victory, the
current points leader, winning for the 4th week in a row. Earlier in the
day it looked like things wouldn’t go so well for Victory. During
practice Victory’s car broke a front axel and lost a wheel assembly.
It appeared to most that he was done for the night. Victory and his crew
worked feverishly to install a new axel and got him ready to race again
just before the Sportsman came out to time trial. Victory would start
3rd in the 30-lap feature and worked his way into first after 13 laps
and held it for the remainder of the race.
In the Tri-State Racing Equipment Four Runner Feature number 11, James
Mehaffey, was leading the race with 2 laps to go when he was black flagged
as oil and water started spewing out his back end. This opened the door
for his teammate, Anthony Miller, to take over first and eventually win
the race. Riverview Speedway had a great many cars from the old Hilltop
Speedway in Watertown come out and race this past Saturday night as Hilltop
has closed down indefinitely. Many of the Hilltop 4 cylinder cars performed
quite well on their first outing at Riverview Speedway.
In the Amerigas Open Wheel Modified Feature Gary Finley of Toney, Alabama
finally ended Jimmy Victory’s 5-race winning streak. Finley held
off Victory for the final 7 laps to get the win. Despite the loss Victory
still holds a distinct lead in the point standings.
The Regina White, EA Tax Service Mini-Cup Feature had a bit of controversy
once again. Number 3, Anthony Warner of Lafayette, won the race only to
be found with illegal valves in his engine by Tech following the race.
Warner was disqualified and Tech torn down the 2nd place car, #12 Joseph
Meyers. After teardown Meyers was found to be legal and was awarded the
win. Despite the setback Warner still leads in the points for the Mini-Cups.
The best race of the night went to the Citizen’s Bank of Hartsville
Nas-Karts. This past Saturday was the 99th consecutive Saturday night
of racing at Riverview Speedway to include the Nas-Karts, the longest
current streak dating back to 1999 on the old track. The race did not
disappoint. Bobby Joe Lane of Donelson and Rick Parsley of Goodlettesville
fought back and forth on almost every lap of the 20-lap feature. Coming
out of the final turn headed for home both cars were side by side sprinting
for the finish line. Parsley edged Lane by a fraction of an inch to get
the win, his first of the year and his first since 2000 on the old track.
This Saturday night, June 28th, Riverview Speedway will be holding its
historic 100th consecutive Nas-Kart Feature. Many of the old Nas-Kart
drivers that used to race at Riverview Speedway are scheduled to attend.
A special trophy has been commissioned and will be presented to the winner
of this Saturday’s race.
This Saturday night, June 28th, will also be another Little League Baseball
Night at Riverview Speedway. All area Little League Baseball players and
coaches who arrive in uniform will be admitted into General Admission
for free this Saturday night.
Riverview Speedway will be racing on the 4th of July weekend. The races
will be held on Saturday, July 5th. July 5th will also be “Area
Campground Night”. All campers using any of the fine campgrounds
in Middle Tennessee that bring their campground receipt dated for that
weekend will get into General Admission at half price. Riverview Speedway
hopes that everyone includes the races into their 4th of July weekend
plans. For more information visit the website at www.riverviewspeedway.com.

SUMMERS RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE AT RIVERVIEW SPEEDWAY
by Jim West
Jamie Summers of Franklin, KY returned to Victory Lane this past Saturday
night at Riverview Speedway, 371 Dixon Springs Highway in Carthage. Summers
won the Late Model Feature for the first time since May 10th ending a
5 week drought. The win kept Summers atop the Late Model point standings
as well.
The Late Model Feature was marred by several cautions for oil on the
track as #2 Bobby Ward lost an oil line dumping the fluid on the track.
The last caution came out as newcomer Justin Owen of Owensboro, KY had
his car burst into flames with 3 laps to go. The Riverview Speedway ground
crew quickly put out the flames but the incident put oil on the track
again. The race restarted with 2 laps to go, a green-white-checkered situation.
Summers managed to hold off Jimmy Victory and Duke Wright for the final
two laps to get the win.
In other action Saturday night….. Stetson Holder of Hartsville
won the 98th consecutive running of the Citizen’s Bank of Hartsville
Mini-Cups; David Ring of Columbia won the Dwarf Car Feature; Daniel Victory
of Smyrna held of Dale Shoulders of Hartsville to win the First Southern
Financial Sportsman Feature; Jason Averitt of Murfreesboro won the Tri-State
Motor Sports Four Runner Feature; Jimmy Victory of Mt. Juliet won the
Amerigas Open Wheel Modified Feature for the 5th straight week; and Clay
Alexander of Franklin came in 1st in the Regina White, EA Tax Service
Mini-Cups Feature. However, Alexander was torn down following the race
by Tech and the results were unconclusive Saturday night. His motor was
held and locked-up for further inspection during the week. The Mini-Cup
results will not be final until the inspection is finished later during
the week.
Speaking of the Mini-Cups, M.M.R.A. (Miniature Motorsports Racing Association)
held another regional event this past Saturday at Riverview Speedway.
Clay Alexander took the checkered flag in the Open Division Feature and
Trevor Jones of Jeffersonville, Indiana took home the win in the Future
Stars Feature. M.M.R.A. will be back at Riverview Speedway on Saturday,
September 13th.
This Saturday night Riverview Speedway will be back in action with their
regular schedule. Gates open at 2pm, time trials at 5:30pm with the racing
program starting at 6pm. Riverview Speedway also holds open practice on
Friday afternoons which is free to the public. Open practice is from 1pm
– dark every Friday afternoon. For more information visit the website
