Yontz Looking Forward to UARA Event at Orange County

17 year old Alex Yontz ready for return to Orange County

The brand new Yontz Racing # 66 ready for UARA event at OCS

Alex Yontz, of Walnut Cove, NC, will compete in the Acordia Insurance 255 presented
by Brad's Tree Service at Orange County Speedway this weekend. The 17-year-old
Yontz began racing go-karts in 1993, at the age of seven. He stayed with the karts for
seven years, gathering many racing honors along the way. Among Alex's karting records
are: Winning back-to-back Grand National Championship Races in 1996 and 1997; WKA
North Carolina Champion in 1997; WKA National Champion in 1997; SERCA Champion
in 1998 and Dirt World Champion in 1999.

In 2000, Alex wanted to move on to bigger and faster cars. he made the move to the Legends
cars, and picked up a feature win in only his third time out. He went on to win the BF Goodrich
Points Series North Carolina Asphalt Championship that first year (Young Lions); took second
place in the Wendy's Summer Shootout Series (Charger Division); finished second in the
Concord Motorsports Park Series (Charger Division) and completed that first season 7th in
National Points.

The following year Yontz moved up to the Semi-Pro Division, picking up 17 wins and 30 top five finishes on the way to the 2001 North Carolina State Championship.

At the age of 15 Alex entered his first Late Model Stock Car event at Hickory Speedway. He
surprised many of the veterans in the field by qualifying 9th out of the forty cars that made
qualifying attempts that day. He ran in the top fifteen throughout the event, only to be caught
up in someone else's accident near the end, and ended up with a DNF in that first Late Model
event.

The 2003 season was his first season of concentrating fully on Late Model competition. He
competed at Orange County Speedway and finished 12th in year-end points despite running
only a limited schedule. Alex qualified 17th for the prestigious Taco Bell 300 at Martinsville
earlier this month and was running a strong 12th when he suffered an engine failure.

Alex, a senior and Honor Roll student this year at South Stokes High School in Walnut Cove,
is looking forward to returning to Orange County Speedway for this weekend's UARA sanctioned
event, and hopes to add another good finish to his already impressive resume.

The brand new # 66 Yontz Racing entry will carry the colors of Wynn's, LYF-TYM Building
Products, Certainteed Building Materials and Yontz Home Improvements.

UARA Series from Myrtle Beach Speedway by

A large field takes the green flag in the UARA-STARS 150 at Myrtle Beach Speedway

# 16 Wayne Grubb holds off # 77 Rick Smith in the early stage of the UARA-STARS 150

# 29 Allen Gordon spins down the front straightaway as # 28 Skeeter Godby and # 10 Greg Hardee avoid the spin.

# 99 Bob Saville gets turned around going into turn 1, as rest of the field gets on the brakes.

Brad Rogers picks up his first win UARA-STARS win
at Myrtle Beach Speedway.

Rogers takes the ‘beach by storm’ for first UARA victory
By Robert Walden

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Sept. 27) – The Hendersonville, N.C.-based United Auto Racing Association-Southern Touring Asphalt Racing Series (UARA-STARS) competitors kicked back and headed to the beach – Myrtle Beach Speedway – for a little “fun and sun” on the Atlantic coast. But for 35 of the 36 cars in the starting field, it was no day of fun in the sun.

When the checkers waved Saturday night over the 150-lap event, Brad Rogers of Mooresville, N.C., had taken the “beach by storm.” Rogers, a regular at Concord (N.C.) Motorsports Park, led flag-to-flag and was never seriously challenged in recording the $2,500 victory, his first-ever UARA win.

With a stellar field of 39 entrants signed-in for Sunoco Fuels pole qualifying and a total of 36 starting spots up for grabs, Rogers, driving the No. 51 Fire Protection Services Ford Taurus, toured the .538-mile tri-oval at 20.970-seconds to capture the pole position. UARA regular Wayne Grubb was second quickest at 21.018 to earn the outside front-row starting berth.

Rogers launched into the lead at the drop of the green, with Grubb, Rick Smith, Jamie Lee and Jason Calhoun in tow at the end of lap 1. During the mid-stages of the race with the field beginning to get strung out and the leader working heavy lapped traffic, they were no trouble for Rogers, as he quickly worked past and never let his closest challengers gain any ground.

With only nine cars remaining on the lead lap when Rogers crossed the start/finish line to capture the victory, positions two through five behind him went to Myrtle Beach regulars Smith, Stuart Ricks, Calhoun and Chad McCumbee.

Ricks’ run was quite impressive, as he advanced from his 31st starting spot to record a strong third-place finish to earn the Hard Charger of the race award. McCumbee also gained a lot of ground in coming from 16th to finish in fifth.

Completing the top-10 finishers were Robert Elliott, Robert Powell, UARA points leader Lee Tissot, Lee and Grubb.

Tissot, of Arden, N.C., headed to Myrtle Beach with a 132-point lead over Hot Springs, N.C., chauffeur Stephen Gahagan. Is the battle for the series championship over? With only two events remaining on the schedule, Tissot’s top-10 finish (eighth) and Gahagan’s 15th-place run might be all the edge the veteran Tissot needs to claim the title.

The UARA-STARS will return to action for event 15 on the 16-race schedule on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville, N.C., for the “Third Annual October Fest” presented by National Dodge. There will be an open practice for all competitors on Friday, Oct. 17. This will be the third race for UARA at Coastal Plains in 2003, with Jamey Caudill of Four Oaks, N.C., and Mechanicsville, Va.’s Wayne Grubb each having visited victory lane.

For more information, contact UARA’s Kerry Bodenhamer at (828) 692-3833, Competition Director Brian Vance at (423) 823-0587, or visit the Web site at www.uara-stars.com

UARA-STARS ready to bask in the sun at Myrtle Beach Speedway

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 22) – The United Auto Racing Association-Southern Touring Asphalt Racing Series (UARA-STARS) competitors are ready for a little “fun and sun” at the beach – Myrtle Beach Speedway – where they will be in action Saturday, Sept. 27 for a 150-lap event.

The .538-mile configuration features a dogleg down the front straightaway, and for some of the series’ drivers this will be their first-ever visit to the South Carolina track. But point leader Lee Tissot, from Arden, N.C., has experience on the unique layout and will be one of the top contenders to take the checkers.

Tissot currently holds a 132-point lead over Hot Springs, N.C., driver Stephen Gahagan in the battle for the championship. Third through fifth in the points chase headed to Myrtle Beach, respectively, are Dange Hanniford of Florence, S.C., Jason Mitcham of Blacksburg, Va., and Grundy, Va.’s Keith Stiltner.

Completing the top-10 in the point standings are Mark King of Seymour, Tenn, Tim Weaver of Statesville, N.C., Palmetto State racers Danny Efland from Irmo, S.C., and R.A. Brown of Columbia, S.C., and Mechanicsville, Va.’s Wayne Grubb.

“This will probably be one of the toughest races to date this season for our regular UARA drivers,” said UARA-STARS Competition Director Brian Vance. “We have already got a great pre-entry list and four out of the top five drivers from Myrtle Beach Speedway will be present.

“Rick Smith beat out Stuart Ricks and Jason Calhoun for the track (Myrtle Beach) championship, and all three are pre-entered for Saturday’s race. This should be an outstanding show.”

An open practice for all UARA-STARS competitors is scheduled at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Friday, Sept. 26 beginning at 6 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m. Gates will open Friday at 5 o’clock.

Racing action for Saturday, Sept. 27 will get under way at 7:30. Afternoon qualifying will start at 4:45, with a drivers autograph session at 6:30. Besides the UARA Late Models, also in action will be the Thunder Roadsters, Charger and Mini Stocks.

BUMGARNER WINS UARA 150 AT HICKORY

UARA Winner
Hickory Motor Speedway UARA Race
HICKORY, NC -(51) Dexter Canipe Jr of Claremont NC gets in a tangle with the UARA Late Model Stock Cars of (70) Nick Tucker of Tacoma WA and (46) Jim Denning of Springfield NJ on lap nine for the first caution of the UARA 150 on Saturday night, September 6, 2003, at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Hickory Motor Speedway Late Model UARA Race
HICKORY, NC - (7) Brett Rhinehart's spin in turn two was the only close call of the night for UARA 150 race winner (96) Keith Bumgarner. (35) Alan Scoggins also missed Rhinehart's spinning UARA Late Model Stock Car on
Saturday night, September 6, 2003, at Hickory Motor Speedway.

HICKORY, NC - Keith Bumgarner continued his dominance of the Hickory Motor
Speedway oval with a win in the UARA 150. Bumgarner's fifth career UARA
Late Model Stock Car win was also his eighth of the season at Hickory.

Most races are usually won in the closing laps, but Bumgarner jumped from
his outside front row starting position into the lead when Sunoco Pole
Award Winner, Brandon McCarson spun his rear tires at the green flag.

"We came down too slow for the start and I just got in the gas too hard and
spun the tires," McCarson admitted.

By turn one of the first lap, Bumgarner was in the lead. He would never be
challenged. The only close call for the winner came when Brett Rhinehart
spun and forced Bumgarner's Ford high and into the marbles.

"As long as I could stay ahead I could pace myself," Bumgarner said. "All
I had to do was make laps on a familiar track - hit the bumps just right
and keep the car from sliding around."

McCarson finshed second after a long side-by-side duel with Jamie
Yelton. Third place went to rookie Nick Hutchins in his best career finish
on the UARA tour. Fourth place went to series point leader Lee
Tissot. Yelton finished fifth. Seventeen of the 28 starters finished on
the lead lap.

Tony Grady wins battle but Wayne Grubb wins the war

UARA Late Model Stock Car racers
JACKSONVILLE, NC - (16) Wayne Grubb started and finished in second place in the UARA 150 at Coastal Plains Raceway on Saturday night, August 23,
2003. Grubb lapped the Late Model Stock Car of (6) Kevin Love as he attempted to catch the leader.

Tony Grady hoists the winner's check
JACKSONVILLE, NC - Tony Grady hoists the winner's check
for the UARA 150 at Coastal Plains Raceway on Saturday night,
August 23, 2003. Grady qualified third in his UARA Late Model
Stock Car and grabbed an early lead on his way to victory.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AUGUST 24) - Raleigh NC driver Tony Grady took over the lead in the Steven Chevrolet UARA-Stars 150 at Coastal Plains raceway on lap seven and went on to win his first ever UARA-Stars event. After post race inspection UARA officials found a non-approved part and declared Wayne Grubb the winner.

Tim Weaver set the Sunoco fast time for the twenty three-car field and became the first driver in 2003 to repeat as pole setter; his other pole came earlier in the season at Hickory Motor Speedway. As the field came down to the green Weavers car didn't come up to speed allowing outside pole setter Grubb to gain the lead. Weaver battled back and would lead the first lap but pulled out of the race with engine problems and ending his chances for a second win in 2003.

Rookie contender Danny Efland battling back from a crash in Friday nights practice ran into some more bad luck when he was involved in a wreck on lap four of the event. The Efland crew would not have been able to compete had it not been for their hard work and the work of drivers and crewmembers of the other UARA teams. Efland was awarded the ARP Hard Luck of the race for his misfortune.

When the field returned to green Grubb was unable to hold off Grady allowing him to take the lead on lap seven. The next caution would fall on lap thirty-four when series point leader Lee Tissot and Mark King made contact going into turn three spinning both cars. The field would go green and make it to lap forty five when Dange Haniford got into the wall coming off turn four collecting new comer Chad McCumbee and taking both cars out of contention for a good finish.

Grady would start pulling away after half way, leaving Grubb to battle with Stephen Gahagan, the cars appeared to be equal and lap traffic made it hard for Gahagan to pass Grubb in the closing laps. When the smoke cleared Grubb came away with the win followed by Gahagan, Mark Howell who was awarded the Hard Charger for gaining the most positions, Tissot, and rookie Nick Hutchins with his first top five of the season. Coming across the line in sixth was rookie Jason Micham followed by Robert Elliott, Bud Kenny, Kevin Love, and finishing tenth was Chris Prince.

The UARA-Stars will return to action in two weeks at the Famed Hickory Motor Speedway. For more information contact UARA at (828) 692-3833 or Hickory Motor Speedway at (828) 464-3655 or visit the web page at www.uara-stars.com

UARA-Stars head for the Coast

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - UARA-Stars drivers will once again load up the war wagons and head east for the coast, Coastal Plains Raceway that is. For the travelers this is their second trip of the season to the 4/10-mile oval and on arrival the Stars drivers will be greeted by a strong group of local competitors. May 5th winner Jamey Caudill will be on hand along with Bud Kenny, Tony Grady and a host of other drivers who will be competing in the Stevenson Chevrolet 150 for the $2500 first place money.

Arden NC driver Lee Tissot will lead the way for the UARA-Stars drivers with four wins under his belt and a comfortable points lead over second place Stephen Gahagan. A strong running Mark King will also be on hand. King was the highest finishing UARA driver during the last visit to Coastal Plains. Gahagan in the middle of a strong season will try to improve on his earlier 5th place finish in hopes of making up some ground on Tissot.

"We are having a Friday night practice session from 5:00 pm till 12:00 pm. This will give the UARA regulars a chance to get their cars dialed in under the lights. This night practice should really help and give the tour guys a better chance to bring home a win", said Stars Competition Director Brian Vance.

Racing action for the Stevenson Chevrolet UARA-Stars 150 is set to get underway at 8:00 pm, with gates opening at 5:00 pm, qualifying at 5:15. For more information please contact UARA-Stars at (828) 692-3833 or visit our web site at www.uara-stars.com

Of the 21 UARA Late Model Stock Cars that took the green flag, twelve were on the lead lap at the end of the race.

Racing in a Line
COEBURN, VIRGINIA - (15) Kres VanDyke won the Sunoco Award for the fastest time in qualifications for UARA Late Model Stock Cars. VanDyke led the most laps in the W-L Construction 150 at Lonesome Pine Raceway on Saturday night, August 9, 2003, and eventually finished tenth following a late race spin.

COEBURN, VIRGINIA - Steve Blackburn of Prestonsburg, KY, captured his first career UARA win in the W-L Construction 150 at Lonesome Pine Raceway on
Saturday night, August 9, 2003.

COEBURN, VIRGINIA - Steve Blackburn of Prestonsburg, KY, captured his first
career UARA win in the W-L Construction 150 at Lonesome Pine Raceway on
Saturday night, August 9, 2003. Blackburn took the lead from Sunoco
Polesitter Kres VanDyke on lap 136 and held off all challengers for the
remaining 14 laps of the Late Model Stock Car feature.

"At the start, I was racing so hard that I was burning the tires off and
decided it would be better to keep cool," Blackburn explained his race
strategy. "I decided to save my tires. As the race went on he (VanDyke)
started sliding a bit and I caught a chance to go under him."

For most of the event, VanDyke dominated the field. While UARA point
leaders Lee Tissot and Stephen Gahagan were struggling through traffic from
their ninth and tenth place starting positions, VanDyke enjoyed a
comfortable lead.

With 50 laps to go, Blackburn began reeling in the leader. With 15 to go,
he made the pass. Then, it was Tissot's turn at VanDyke and second
place. The cars bumped on lap 141 and Tissot spun off of turn two. He
remained on the lead lap, but was out of contention.

On the restart, Blackburn slid in turn one. VanDyke went low in an attempt
to retake the lead. The cars tangled and VanDyke spun.

"I guess I drove in to deep and slid up," Blackburn said. "I thought I had
really messed up when I saw his fender under me. The next thing I know we
got together. He spun to the inside and I just missed the outside wall."

In the final five laps, second place Keith Stiltner slid high in turn four
and lost five positions. In an attempt to avoid Stiltner's car, Gahagan
cut down a tire and lost a lap and more precious points to Tissot.

Blackburn's victory was his best finish of the season at the 3/8th paved
oval where he has a hand-full of career wins. It was also the best UARA
career finish for second place Mark King and third place Carl
Cormier. Former track champion, Wade Day finished fourth.

Eric McClure prepares for the UARA-Stars Advance Auto Parts 150

HENDERSONVLLE, N.C. (August 3) Abington, Va. driver Eric McClure used this past weekends NASCAR weekly racing event at Lonesome Pine Raceway as a test session for the UARA-Stars race coming up this Saturday night. McClure sat on the pole and lead every lap, a repeat of the way the McClure Racing team did against the UARA-Stars drivers earlier this year.

The team was unsure about running the Advance Auto Parts 150 earlier this year but after a strong win over Lee Tissot and Keith Stiltner the team was glad they had made the decision to race. McClure pulling double duty in anything from a street stock to an ARCA series car has matured a lot this season. He is coming off a strong win this weekend and will be looking to sweep both UARA events at the "Pine". The only other repeat UARA winner in 2003 is point leader Lee Tissot. Tissot has graced the UARA victory lane four times this season.

As the season moves well into the second half the series point battle is heating up. Tissot comes into the race 111-point lead over Stephen Gahagan, with Stiltner third, Tim Weaver fourth and Dange Hanniford fifth. Rounding out the top ten in points are Jason Mitcham, Mark King, Danny Efland, Wayne Grubb and Brandon McCarson.

Gates open for the August 9 running of the Advance Auto Parts 150 at 5:00. Qualifying will commence at 5:15 with an autograph session at 7:00 and racing at 8:00. For more information please contact Lonesome Pine Raceway at (276) 395-5001 or UARA-Stars at (828) 692-3833 and (423) 823-0587. Also visit the web site at www.uara-stars.com

July 26, 2003 (Kenly, NC) - Southern National point leader Denny Hamlin put in a dominating performance in the UARA-Stars event at Southern National Speedway Saturday night. The local hot shoe led all but two laps of the150 lap event.

The front row consisted of Southern National regulars Hamlin and Jamie Caudill. As the green flag fell Hamlin jumped out to an early lead over Caudill who had already won a Stars event earlier in the season at Coastal Plains Raceway. The race's only caution of the night came out on lap fourteen when Chris Toole spun coming off turn four. When the field went back green Caudill got a good jump on the start and passed Hamlin in turns one and two, but his lead was short lived as Hamlin would regain the lead in a few laps. After retaking the lead Hamlin set a torrid pace and was never seriously challenged for the remainder of the race.

Stars regulars Andy Johnson and Dange Hanniford would have their best finishes of the year with Johnson coming home in third and Hanniford finishing fifth. Caudill finished the night in second followed by Johnson, Tony Grady, and Hanniford.

Rounding out the top ten were Stephen Gahagan in sixth, Lee Tissot seventh, Mark Ketron eight, Keith Stiltner ninth and Jason Mitcham tenth.

The UARA-Stars next event will be a return trip to Lonesome Pine Raceway on August 9 for the Advance Auto Parts 150. When the UARA-Stars made their first visit of the season to Lonesome Pine Eric McClure scored his first career Late Model win.

Jamey Caudill takes on the drivers of UARA at Southern National

July 24, 2003 – Jamey Caudill of Four Oaks NC will get another chance at the UARA-Stars drivers this weekend at Southern National Speedway. He want be going up against the Stars drivers along, Tony Grady, Kirk Leone, and a host of local regulars will be on hand to compete against the Stars.

Caudill’s first UARA win came earlier this year at Coastal Plains Speedway, in a rain-shortened event. Caudill set fast time and lead every lap of the event. UARA point leader Lee Tissot coming off his forth win this season will be looking to increase on his points lead with a good run. “From what we’ve been told the track is a similar lay out as Newport so some of our points contenders should be up front and contending for the win”, says Competition Director Brian Vance.

Returning to the tour for his first race of 2003 will be Hampton SC driver Robert Elliott. Elliott has been running in some other divisions and now running with the tour for the remainder of the season. Nashville driver Andy Johnson has also entered this weekend’s race after a strong top ten finish at Newport Speedway.

Local classes running with the UARA-Stars will include Legends, 4 cylinders, and Street Stocks. Qualifying is set for 5:15, the autograph session at 7:00 and racing at 8:00. For more information please call (828) 692-8835 or (423) 823-0587. Visit the web site at www.uara-stars.com

Lee Tissot picks up his forth UARA-Stars win of the season at Newport Raceway

Newport Tn. (July 20, 2003) Lee Tissot picks up his forth UARA-Stars win of the season at Newport Raceway. With this win Tissot has now laid claimed to both UARA events at the "lighting fast" high banks. The victory has also helped Tissot gain some more points over Stephen Gahagan and Keith Stiltner in the 2003 season point standings.

In qualifying ASA Rookie contender Stephen Leicht filling in for Jimmy Doyle set fast time over the twenty-two-car field with a 13:401. Newport point leader Dennis Queen qualified second followed by Stiltner, Gahagan and Jason Grant rounding out the top five. As the field took the green, racing action got heated up early when Stiltner received a tap and sent him spinning to the inside. Queen was able to get the lead from Leicht as the field came to the caution.

Queen would lead the first thirty-three laps until Leicht mounted a charge and would take the lead away. Leicht was able to pull away from the field and would lead the half way point. As the race was closing in on the finish, point leader and ninth place starter Tissot was making his way the front of the pack. Tissot pulled along side race leader Leicht on lap 118 and was able to take the lead away for good on lap 120. Leicht did not roll over and quit as in the closing laps he had the overwhelming crowd on their feet as he pushed Tissot across the start finish line. Following Leicht to the line was Gahagan, Tim Weaver, and rounding out the top five was Queen. Coming to the finish in sixth was Andy Johnson, Jason Mitcham, Mark King, Robbie Henry, and RA Brown finishing tenth.

The night's scariest moment occurred on lap 123 when Kingsport Tn driver Mark Ketron driving Tissot's team car crashed on the backstretch. Two lapped cars had gotten together and come to a stop in middle of the grove leaving Ketron no where to go and ending his chances for a solid top five finish. All drivers were ok.

The tours next stop will be Southern National Speedway in Kenly NC next Saturday night July 26th. For more information contact UARA-Stars Competition Director Brian Vance at (423) 823-0587 or UARA-Stars at (828) 692-8835 or visit the web site at www.uara-stars.com

UARA-Stars returns to "Lighting Fast" Newport Raceway

HEDERSONVILLE, N.C. - With half of the season over, the UARA-Stars tour makes it's way back to the high banks of Newport Raceway Saturday July 19th for the second and final time in 2003.

The tour's last stop at the four tenth mile ultra fast oval provided the fans with a lot of exciting side-by-side racing and a few wrecked race cars. The action kept the fans on their feet from start to finish. Hot Springs NC driver Stephen Gahagan set fast time and lead the most laps until the late stages of the race when Gahagan's car seem to fade. This allowed hard charging Lee Tissot to pass with fifteen laps to go and win his second race of the season. Keith Stiltner recorded his best finish of the season with a fifth place run,

'We are excited about coming back to Newport, the car ran well and we learned a few things that should help when we return", said Stiltner.

The first race at Newport saw an excellent turn out of competitors. In an effort to accommodate as many teams as possible the starting field was increased to 29 a move officials believed led to an increase in cautions during the 150-lap event.

"The track is so fast and short that the leaders get into heavy traffic so quick that it created too many accidents. We feel that by cutting on the number of cars we start will cut down on the cautions and bring the fans more green flag racing," said UARA-Stars owner Kerry Bodenhamer.

For more information please call UARA-Stars at (823) 692-3833 or Newport Raceway at (423) 623-2182. Also keep up with the UARA-Stars at www.uara-stars.com

Bo Miller dominates the UARA Firecracker 150 at Fairgrounds Speedway

Nashville, Tenn. (July 3rd) - In front of a standing room only crowd, and thirty-six other racers, Bowling Green, KY driver Bo Miller continued his winning ways at Fairgrounds Speedway with a dominating performance in the UARA-Stars Firecracker 150. This win added to Miller's long list of victories for 2003, making this his eighth win in twelve races.

White House Tenn. Driver Josh Adams brought the thirty-seven-car field down to the start, but as he and Miller raced off into turns one and two, Miller would pull ahead and never be challenged again in the 150-lap event. The nights racing action heated up early with a six-car pile up on the back straight away. Ending the night for Bennie Hamlett, Sam Beam, Bob Saville, David Brown, Clay Greenfield, and Brandon McCarson.

In the closing laps of the race UARA regulars had made their way to the front of the field. Wayne Grubb starting nineteenth on the grid was taking over the third place spot when he and pole setter Adams got together down the back straight ending Grubbs night for a strong finish. Allen Gordon and Mark King turned in their best performances of the year with Gordon finishing third and King coming in ninth.

Point leader Lee Tissot extended his points over StephenGahagan by turning in a strong run. With early problems Tissot was able to pit under caution and work his way back to the front with a forth place run. After post race inspection third place finisher Chevy White was disqualified for an unapproved intake.

Following Miller to the line in second was Joe Buford, Gordon, Tissot, and Michael Green rounding out the top five. Finishing sixth through tenth was Travis Trotter, Keith Stiltner, Shane Huffman, Mark King, and Darrell Sage.

The UARA-Stars next race will be a return trip back to the "lightening fast" high banks of Newport Raceway on Saturday July 19th. For more information call (828) 692-3833 or visit the website at www.uara-stars.com

UARA-Stars 150 Heats up in Nashville July 3

(Hendersonville, NC) June 30th - The UARA-Stars drivers are headed back to the Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville. This Thursday, July 3, is looking to be one of the most exciting and challenging races of the year for both the Nashville and UARA-Stars competitors. The speedway has made this a points race, and with all the talent that is going to be on hand, the fireworks on the track may be better than the fireworks that are planned after the final race of the evening.

The race is shaping up as an east/west shootout. In the west, you have Bo Miller who has won seven of the eleven races this year and the tracks all-time-winner Joe Buford who dominated the last race the Stars had at this speedway. Also returning to racing action this week will be Debra Renshaw. A very strong competitor in the past at the Fairgrounds, Debra has moved up to run some ARCA races this season. Then from the east there is Wayne Grubb who has had his "ups and downs" this year but was the only driver who had anything for Buford during the last UARA race run at the Fairgrounds. Other strong contenders from the east would have to be point leader Lee Tissot, as well as Stephen Gahagan, and Keith Stiltner.

"Will any driver have anything for Buford? Can Grubb claim his first UARA win? Who will claim the $2,500.00 first place money?" questions UARA Competition Director Brian Vance. "One thing for sure all the questions will be answered Thursday night.'

Racing gets under way at 7:30 p.m. with the Sportsmen to kick things off followed by the UARA-Stars 150 lapper, the Legends, Junior Frontrunners, Frontrunners and the night will end with a spectacular fireworks display.

For more information call the Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville at (615) 726-1820 or UARA-Stars at (828) 692-3833. www.uara-stars.com

UARA-Stars appeals board reinstates Tissots points

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Arden NC driver Lee Tissot has had his points reinstated by the UARA-Stars appeals board after an off track altercation between Tissots crew and another competitor during the UARA-Stars 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway.

UARA officials had fined, taken points and placed Tissot and his crew on probation for their actions during the event. After receiving a notice of their penalty, Tissot filed an appeal on Wednesday and after the boards review the decision was made to reinstate Tissot's points but the fines and probation will remain in affect.

McClure takes Advance Auto Parts/Hobart UARA 150 at Lonesome Pine Raceway

COEBURN, Va. - Abingdon, Va. driver Eric McClure showed the fans and the UARA drivers he knows how to get around Lonesome Pine Raceway Saturday night in the Advance Auto Parts/Hobart UARA 150 as he set on the pole and lead all 150 laps of the event. With this Saturday nights race being sanctioned by UARA-Stars the local points would not be in effect for this race, but on Thursday afternoon after talking to UARA officials Jerry McClure, Eric's dad and car owner, decided to make the trip and after Saturday's win the team is glad they did.

After the two hour Practice session McClure was not happy with the car and was uncertain about how well they would qualify or run in the race. As it would turn out McClure bumped series point leader Lee Tissot from the pole by a tenth of a second.

As the green flag fell McClure would jump out to a comfortable lead for the first 60 laps when Nate Monteith and Mark King came together on the back straight finish to bring out the caution and tighten the field. When the field returned to green McClure seemed to have not cleaned off his tires well and slide up the banking in turn three. This allowed a hard charging Tissot to pull along side. Keeping his patience McClure was able to pull ahead and keep Tissot behind behind him. It was McClure's first UARA-Stars win.

Following McClure to the line were Tissot, Keith Stiltner, Robbie Ferguson, and Mark Ketron. Finishing sixth through ten were Tim Weaver, Dange Haniford, Jason Mitcham, Ronnie McCarty, and Brandon McCarson.

The UARA-Stars next stop will be back at the famed Nashville Fairgrounds on July the 3rd. For more information please contact the UARA-Stars at (828) 692-3833 or visit our web page at www.uara-stars.com.

The decision by UARA tech official was appealed on Monday and after further review from the appeals board the decision was upheld and the disqualification stood giving Weaver his first UARA-Stars win.

After an altercation in the pits UARA-Stars point leader Lee Tissot has been fined, all points for the race taken away and placed on probation for the remaining UARA races. The decision by UARA officials is under appeal and will be placed in front of the board sometime next week. Stephen Wallace's crew has also been fined and placed on probation for a similar incident in the pit area.

The Stars make their first trip north to Lonesome Pine Raceway this weekend for the Advance Auto Parts/Hobart/WAXM 93.5 - 150. Local classes include Legends, Pro Challenge, Mod Mini, Pure Stock, and Pure Fours. Grandstands open at 5:00 with an Autograph session to be held at 7:00 and racing at 8:00. UARA-Stars heads north for first trip to Lonesome Pine Raceway

Hendersonville, NC. - With six races completed of the sixteen scheduled for the 2003 season, the Stars of UARA head north for their first trip of the season to Lonesome Pine Raceway. Since the first six races of the tour were held in the south, some of the Northern Late Model Stock drivers a chance to compete in one of the fastest growing touring divisions today. The Advance Auto Parts / Hobart 150 is set for Saturday, June 21, with qualifying set for 6:00 p.m. and racing to begin at 8:00 p.m.

The UARA-Stars Late Model Series has had a strong car count with an average of 26 cars. With the strong support of local Late Models at Lonesome Pine, this race is anticipated to be one of the most exciting races for the Stars drivers this year. A host of talented local drivers should make things difficult for the tour drivers. "Its always hard to come into a mans backyard and beat him at his own game," said Brian Vance, UARA Competition Director. Point leader Lee Tissot and a host of other touring drivers will have their hands full when the green flag waves.

Grundy, VA driver Keith Stiltner is sure to be a fan favorite at Lonesome Pine. This track is where Keith got his start in racing and "he knows how to get around the Pine," said Vance. Keith has won a couple championships at Lonesome Pine and this makes his second full season with the UARA-Stars. Stiltner comes into this race forth in the series points and is hopeful for a good finish to increase his point's standings.

Also scheduled to race will be the Lonesome Pine Legends, Pro Challenge, Mini-Stocks, Pure Fours, and Grand Stocks. "The drivers' autograph session will begin at 7:00 pm on the front straight away so show up early to meet all the drivers," concluded Vance.

Tim Weaver - Winner of the UARA Stars 150 at Hickory Motorsports Speedway
Tim Weaver was announced as the unofficial winner of the UARA-Stars 150 held at Hickory Speedway on Saturday night, June 14, 2003. Weaver was declared the unofficial winner after the race car driven by Billy "Catfish" Parker was found to be illegal in the post-race inspection. UARA race results are not official until after Noon on the Tuesday following each race.

Weaver Declared UARA Winner at Hickory Motor Speedway

NEWTON, N.C. (June 14) Billy "Catfish" Parker out dueled and out ran Tim Weaver to apparently win the UARA 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway on a full moon Saturday night. After taking the checkered flag Parker came up short in post race inspection and UARA officials declared Weaver the winner. Parker has since notified UARA officials that he is appealing the ruling.

At the drop of the green flag fast qualifier Parker and second quick Weaver battled for 20 laps swapping the lead with regularity. Weaver would use lap traffic to take sole possession of first place for a couple of laps only to loose it back to Parker. Once in the lead Parker never looked back as he took what appeared to be his career first UARA win. Brian Conner, Wayne Grubb, Keith Bumgarner and Stephen Gahagan rounded out the top five.

Point leader Lee Tossot's night ended on lap 126 when he and Jamie Yelton got together in turns three and four sending both cars around and collecting last year's race winner Keith Stiltner. As Tissot and Yelton pitted, an altercation broke out which resulted in the event being red flagged. Both Tissot and Yelton were through for the night while Stiltner was able to continue and posted a sixth place finish.

UARA officials are looking into the incident and will announce their decision as to what penalties, if any, will be levied in the near future.

Stephen Wallace, son of Winston Cup driver Rusty Wallace, made his Late Model debut in the UARA 150. On a restart, 80 laps into the 150-lap event, he made contact with the car in front of him. The contact resulted in a damaged radiator. The Barry Dobson led crew was unable to make the necessary repairs and Stephen parked the car.

On hand at Hickory was Lowe's Motor Speedway Promoter Humpy Wheeler. Wheeler, a guest of UARA enjoyed all the action on the historic oval.

The next UARA event is this Saturday night, June 21, at Lonesome Pine Int'l Raceway in Coeburn, VA. TISSOT EARNS THIRD UARA WIN

Sunoco Polesitter (16) Wayne Grubb and (27) Lee Tissot dueled side-by-side for the lead in the Anderson 150 UARA Late Model Stock Car feature at Anderson Motor Speedway
ANDERSON SC - For over 20 laps, Sunoco Polesitter (16) Wayne Grubb and (27) Lee Tissot dueled side-by-side for the lead in the Anderson 150 UARA Late Model Stock Car feature at Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday night, May 30. Tissot, the UARA point leader, emerged with the lead and went on to his third win of the 2003 season.

ANDERSON SC - A cut tire sent local hero (88) Gary Greenwood Jr spinning out while racing in a pack of traffic during the Anderson 150 UARA Late Model Stock Car feature at Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday night, May 30.

ANDERSON SC - Lee Tissot and team celebrate their third UARA win of the 2003 season following the Anderson 150 UARA Late Model Stock Car feature at Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday night, May 30.

ANDERSON, SC - Lee Tissot won his third UARA race of the 2003 season
following a 20-lap side-by-side duel with Sunoco Pole Winner Wayne
Grubb. The close competition at the front was matched throughout the pack
as the top ten cars finished on the lead lap in the Friday night, May 30,
special event.

"I just didn't want to abuse the car to get by him," Lee Tissot said of his
contest with Grubb. "He gave me plenty of room and I gave him plenty of room."

The first caution slowed the opening laps as Danny Efland and Mark King
tangled in turn four. Both cars continued. The second caution of the
Anderson 150 flew just past the 100-lap mark.

The most controversial incident of the night came when the lapped car of
Kevin McCurry banged into Grubb. McCurry is the driver of a team car to
race-winner Tissot.

"That was unfortunate and I've already talked with Kevin about it," Tissot
explained. "He's not got a lot of experience and it showed when he drove
into the corner too hard."

The final caution put local racer Jay White in a position to challenge, but
not make the pass near the end. He finished one car-length behind the winner.

"This track just seems a bit slicker this year," Tissot said. "The local
guys really knew what it would do and we didn't. We're just going to have
to do our homework before next year."

Lee Tissot has now won three UARA races in-a-row at Anderson Motor Speedway.

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - The UARA cars and stars return to Anderson Motor Speedway Friday Night for their second and final race of the season at the Anderson, South Carolina 3/8-mile oval.

Coming off a series win at Newport Speedway Lee Tissot, who won the season opener at Anderson, will be the car to beat.
