KEITH BERNER WINS CAREER PAYDAY IN ‘MACS FALL SHOWDOWN’ AT WCS
By Jarrod Lehman

Orrville, OH --- It was a rerun of sorts as local hero Keith Berner of Millersburg, OH, driving the Denny Earl-owned, Massillon Transmission/Village Motors sponsored BOSS Race Car/Malcuit Racing Engines #18, took on drivers from seven states and came out victorious in the largest paying race win during Berner’s 20 plus year dirt Late Model career last Sunday afternoon at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH. Berner earned $12,000 for winning the “Willow Creek Concrete Concepts Fall Showdown” last Sunday afternoon which was the second part of a two-day Mid Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) race weekend. Berner swept the weekend by setting fast time, winning his qualifying heat race and capturing the $3,000 to win “MACS King of the Hill” special event on Saturday evening. A total of $70,000 in purse money was awarded over the weekend.

Polesitter Ryan Markham grabbed the lead after taking flagman Ed Frederick’s green flag to start the 75-lap main event but by the time the 24-car field began exiting turn two the frontrunners of Markham, Keith Barbara, Keith Berner and Todd Andrews were four-wide slugging it out for position until lap two when Markham gained control of the top spot and Berner slipped passed Barbara for second. Within another tour of the 3/8 mile clay oval Berner had begun to challenge Markham for the lead and for the next couple laps the veteran independent drivers put on a classic side-by-side assault on the track’s surface for domination. By lap five Berner had slingshoted out of turn four and snagged the lead from Markham at the flagstand as Barbara, Andrews, Tim Hitt, Clint Coffman and Dutch Davies gave pursuit until a lap nine caution for Dave Hess. At the restart Hitt passed Barbara for fourth and three laps later Andrews pulled alongside Markham and for several laps battled for the runner-up spot relentlessly until a lap 15 caution for a Jim Dandy, Jack Pencil and Eric Myers mishap in the third turn.

Upon the restart of racing Andrews made a daring hard-charging move on Berner to claim the lead while seventh starting Ron Davies had begun to make his presence known by breaking into the top five. A lap later Berner throttle-stomped his car through the first two turns and blasted past Andrews to regain the lead which then found Berner, Andrews and Hitt virtually nose-to-tail for several laps as they eased away from the field while Ron Davies began knocking on Markham’s door. Meanwhile, action throughout the field held the attention of the crowd as 22nd starting Chet Alexander had marched up to tenth by lap 25 with 20th starting Corey Conley was leading the way on their rampage to the front while further mid pack action found Rick Aukland and Charlie Duncan running door-to-door lap after lap passing cars while Hitt stole second from Andrews. After a lap 38 caution, Berner began to build a comfortable dominating lead as the laps ticked down and he began passing lapped cars with ease while attention was turned to David Scott who became engaged in a ferocious battle for seventh with Conley. By lap 50 Berner had firm control and used his patented smooth and ultra-fast driving style to weave through traffic with chase being given by Hitt, Andrews, Ron Davies, Markham, Conley, Barbara, Alexander, Scott, Dutch Davies and Aukland.

With a little more than 20 laps left in the race Conley electrified the facility by dueling with Markham before a fourth running Ron Davies suddenly slowed on the backstretch resulting in Scott clipping Davies crippled car. At the restart Conley moved into the high groove and took third from Andrews and zeroed in on Hitt for second as the two West Virginia stars fought it out for the remaining circuits as Berner’s blistering pace set him apart from the field and the eventual win before a cheering crowd.

“This is a great win!” exclaimed Berner in victory lane. “I didn’t know if we had the capabilities of winning this type of race this year but I guess we proved ourselves wrong and this is great!” Berner also won the MACS sanctioned race at Wayne County Speedway held on July 26, making it a sweep for 2003. “I have to credit Todd (Andrews) some too because he really raced me clean. He didn’t chop me or anything and I was really appreciative of that. That’s the thing about running with MACS and these guys, you can race these guys.”

In preliminary MACS events on Saturday heat wins went to Berner, Pencil, Barbara, Scott, Ron Davies and Andrews. The $3,000 to win “MACS King of the Hill” went to Berner over Dutch Davies, Andrews, Hess, Pencil and Markham. Sunday’s preliminary events found Chuck Harper victorious in the C Main and Mike Johnson winning the B Main. The Dash went to Markham.

WCS/MACS $80,000 ‘FALL SHOWDOWN’ NOW A ‘FALL FEST VIIII’ QUALIFIER
By Jarrod Lehman

Orrville, OH --- Wayne County Speedway is gearing up for it’s upcoming “1st Annual FALL SHOWDOWN” featuring the Mid Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) dirt Late Model sanctioning body that will be held Saturday and Sunday September 13 & 14 that will climax with a 75-lap main event paying $12,000 to the winner and $1,000 to take the green flag. In addition, full programs will be held for the BRP Modified Tour, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks and Cruisers. Wayne County Speedway will be offering a total $80,000 purse for the FALL SHOWDOWN weekend spectacular. Track management also recently announced that pre-sale tickets are now available for purchase. In the latest breaking news about the event is the fact that the ‘1st Annual FALL SHOWDOWN’ is now a qualifying race for Challenger Raceway’s annual ‘FALL FEST VIIII’ that is slated for October 12 at the Indiana, PA racetrack. The winner of the Wayne County Speedway ‘1st Annual FALL SHOOTOUT’ will now have a guaranteed starting spot in the ‘FALL FEST VIIII’ main event.

“This is the biggest racing event in Wayne County Speedway history,” stated John Hess, co-owner of the Orrville, OH 3/8 mile clay oval. “But we think racing fans in this part of the country will turn out for a show that is paying so well through the field and with such a variety of good racecars in all the divisions. We’re looking forward to it and I think the fans will really enjoy the weekend. The fact that Jack and Donna Lentz from Challenger Raceway has opened a guaranteed starting spot in their annual ‘FALL FEST’ race for our winner is just the icing on the cake.”

On Saturday evening the MACS Late Models will run time trials, heat races and a special ‘King Of The Hill” event that will pay $3,000 to win. In addition, Saturday night will also feature a full program for the BRP Big Block Modified Tour paying $1,200 to win and a full show for Pure Stocks offering $400 to win.

On Sunday afternoon the festivities will kick off with a special MACS autograph session with the drivers before the running of the MACS D Main, C Main, B Main, Dash and 75-lap ‘Fall Showdown’ main event. Also on the card that day will be a full program for the Cruisers paying $400 to win and the Mini Stocks paying $200 to win.

“I think cross-promotions like this is an excellent way to benefit not only the drivers but the fans as well,” stated Jeff Geesey, Race Coordinator for the MACS series. “I think it’s an excellent opportunity for two race tracks having two great events working together to help each track out in drawing fans and drivers.”

Geesey wasn’t alone in his assessment.

“I am very gratified and happy to be able to contribute to their event and have their winner play an integeral part of the race at Challenger Raceway,” stated Jack Lentz, owner of the Indian, PA based racetrack. The ‘FALL FEST VIIII’ event will pay $15,000 to win, with $2,000 going to tenth play and $1,500 to start the main event. “

“With Wayne County’s ‘FALL SHOWDOWN’ we’re getting a lot of inquiries here at the offices and I really think if the weather holds out I think we’ll be very pleasantly surprised at the quanity and quality of cars that will be at the race and I think the fans will enjoy the entire weekend,” continued Geesey. “This is the first really big show for John & Ilene Hess since they have been bought the track, it’s a two-day show, and I think it is really primed to take off for them.”

“The MACS group always brings in terrific car counts and some of the best racing around,” continued Hess. “When the MACS series was here in July they brought in 57 Late Models and I’m sure we will far exceed that number for the ‘Fall Showdown’. I’m really fired up about this weekend and I think some of the best racing of the year will take place that weekend.”

Admission for the Saturday September 13 program will be $20 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12, free admission for ages 5 & under and $25 for the pits. On Sunday admission prices will be $25 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12, free admission for ages 5 & under and $35 for the pits. A new bonus has been added with the news that the winner of the WCS/MACS “1st Annual FALL SHOWDOWN” will receive a guaranteed starting spot in the upcoming October 2-4 BIG KAHUNA III event at The Rock/Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, MD for their $10,000 to win 88 lap feature event.

We’re looking forward to it and I think the fans will really enjoy the weekend.”

“We’re also happy that the winner of our race will get a guaranteed starting spot in the ‘Big Kahuna III’ race at The Rock/Allegany County Speedway in Maryland next month. I think it’s always good when race tracks can do cross-promotions.”

"I am looking forward to this race more than any other because it will give the local and regional drivers the chance to collect a higher purse," commented Rick Jones, promoter of The Rock/Allegany County Speedway. For further information on the ‘Big Kahuna III’, or to order tickets, or to obtain an entry form please call (301) 729-5050 or (866) 390-2288 or visit: http://www.therockspeedway.com

Also on the card that day will be a full program for the Cruisers paying $400 to win and the Mini Stocks paying $200 to win.

SMITH, MIZER, DAUGHERTY, ROBINSON CLAIM SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP RACES AT WCS
By Jarrod Lehman

Orrville, OH --- A large crowd was on hand last Saturday night at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH as four divisions of race cars competed in the annual Season Championship races sponsored by Fought Signs of Wooster, OH while race fans were toasted with the annual Fan Appreciation Night that saw feature wins go to Duffy Smith in the Stoneman Supply Sprint Car division, Mike Mizer in the Massillon Transmission Late Models, Bob Daugherty in the Thrifty Discount muffler Pure Stocks and Josh Robinson in the Curly’s Auto Body Mini Stocks.

At the drop of the green in the Sprint Car main event polesitter Jac Neville took the early lead over Ray Miller, Jason Dolick, Jamie Martin, Duffy Smith and George Prosser. Within a couple laps Neville and Dolick had charged away from the field with Dolick applying pressure for the top spot while Smith had sliced and diced his way into third. As Smith gained ground on the two front runners he was able to capture the lead in a daring move in turn one on the ninth lap with Neville spinning coming out of turn two. After the caution period the restart saw a pile-up of racecars in turn four which necessitated a red flag when Todd McQuillen flipped his Sprinter. By lap 11 Smith not held the lead, he blistered the racing surface by chewing up real estate and pulling away from the field. By lap 17 Smith was firmly in control but behind the leader Dolick and Martin were running side by side for second when Prosser’s Sprinter flipped in turn one. A three-lap dash to the finish saw former multi-time track champion Smith take a dominating win over Dolick, Martin, Aaron Shaffer, Nick Mulheim, Doug Stanley, Bill Morrison, Bill Ault, Troy Kingan and Aaron Middaugh. Smith, of Massillon, OH, won driving the Kempthorn Auto Mall #38K.

Smith, Neville and Prosser won heat races.

In the Late Model main event second starting Mike Mizer of Millersburg, OH` took the immediate lead over pole-sitter Mark Gardiner, Jeff Wright, Wes Morrison, Jr., Thomas Baker, Mark Osburn and George Lee. By lap four eighth starting Allan Baker stole the show by running the upper reaches of the high groove and vaulting to the front to challenge Mizer and Gardiner. By lap nine Baker had altered his game plan and dropped to the low groove taking second from Gardiner setting his sites on Mizer who had stretched his lead. With Baker shrinking Mizer’s lead, a lap 13 caution flew for DJ Miller that saw Mizer, Baker, Gardiner, Rocky Owens and 11th starting Charlie Duncan in the top five spots. As the laps wound down Duncan was able to take third while 19th starting Eric Eicholtz had marched towards the front of the pack into sixth. Baker’s strong run and challenge for the lead vanished on lap 19 when Baker had to take evasive moves to avoid tangling with Mizer, resulting in Baker and Gardiner spinning. Proving second place was no where to be, Owens fell victim to a spin while in the runner-up slot allowing Duncan to inherit the position with Eicholtz, Osburn and Clint Coffman holding down the top five. With one lap remaining Osburn slipped past Eicholtz for third and held on to cross the checkers behind Mizer and Duncan, with Eicholtz, Coffman, Randy Scott, Morrison, Mark Bellamy, Gardiner and Mark Smith trailing.

Osburn, Morrison and Gardiner won heat races while Chet Alexander won the B Main.

It was a battle royale in the Pure Stock Season Championship feature event as veteran racer Bob Daugherty took an early lead and waged a hard fought battle with a high-flying Jim Nicely as the two were eventually joined by Rory Reed to fight tooth and nail for the win. When the checkers waved Daugherty’s throttle-stomping gave him the win over Nicely, Reed, Steve Schickler, Chet Mullins, Shawn Cains, Donna Gentry, Verne Siegrist, Steve Skelly and David Moreland, Jr. Taking heat wins were Cains, Nicely, Daugherty and Reed. Randy Pollock and Troy Anderson won the B Mains.

In the highly competitive Mini Stock championship event a new face greeted victory lane when Josh Robinson took the feature win over Willie Coblentz, Roger Rush, Mike Snyder, Gary Hensel, Jr., Dale Beckett, Ron Miller, Jason Theil, Roger Rush, Sr., and Brad Hensel. Winning preliminary heat races were Roger Rush Senior and Junior and Robinson. Jason Theil won the B Main.

Next Saturday evening, September 6, at Wayne County Speedway WQKT will present the third Enduro Series event of the season with $1,500 up for grabs for the winner. In addition, programs for the Mini Stocks and Cruisers will also be on the card. RICK BOND TAKES THIRD WIN OF SEASON AT WCS, ANDERSON, HUFFMAN, ORITI REPEAT
By Jarrod Lehman

Orrville, OH --- It was “Old Timers Night” at Wayne County Speedway last Saturday evening and racefans were treated with a full night of thrills, chills and spills as new great-grandfather Rick “Fat Daddy” Bond of Mansfield, OH took his third feature win of the season at the Orrville, OH 3/8 mile clay oval on Donley Ford Night as Troy Anderson of Lodi, OH scored another Pure Stock win as did Sam Huffman of Apple Creek, OH in the Mini Stock feature while Frank Oriti won the Cruiser division’s Season Championship.

In clearly one of the more exciting and drama-packed Massillon Transmission Late Models main events this season Bond took the immediate lead at the drop of the green flag from his third starting slot with a relentless Chet Alexander glued to his bumper with fifth starting Jim Cushing powering into third by the fourth turn. With Alexander pulling up alongside Bond lap after lap, often taking the lead for nearly a full circuit on several occasions, Cushing and Mark Gardiner were mimicking Bond and Alexander’s side by side driving clinic within striking distance while tenth starting Eric “Spud” Myers began threading the needle through the field. By the eighth lap Bond had some semblance of control of the lead with Alexander hounding him in the high groove while Myers had slipped up into fourth place and mounted a challenge with Cushing.

A lap nine caution for a mid-pack, scattering five-car tangle closed the ranks. Upon the restart 13th starting George Lee, 17th starting Wayne Maffett, Jr., and 18th starting Don Gross had cracked the top ten while Gardiner made several daring moves in eventually futile attempts to take second from Alexander. By the 15th circuit Myers had moved into third to make it a three-way battle for the lead with Lee and Allan Baker running in unison for sixth. A lap 17 restart saw Bond, Alexander and Myers make a kamikaze assault on the third and fourth turns which resulted in Myers tagging Alexander and bring out a caution. With Myers sent to the tail Bond, Alexander, Gardiner, Lee, Baker and Gross set the pace with Gross turning the wick up and working his way into fourth by lap 23. A lap 24 caution waved when Lee, Gross and Baker tangled sending Baker to the tail and setting up a dash to the checkers with Maffett slipping into fourth and Bond holding on for the win in his Rod Eddleblute Garage/Hale’s Harley Davidson Carrera Shocks/Pro-Power Engines/GRT Race Cars #007 over Alexander, Gardiner, Maffett, Gross, Lee, Mark Osburn, Myers, Bellamy and Dreibelbis.

In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks once again it was Troy Anderson of Lodi, OH coming out on top of an action packed main event over Bob Daugherty, Rory reed, Jack Wile, Shawn Cains, Steve Schickler, Matt Emerling, Randy King, Rich Holmes and Chet Mullins. Winning the 1st B Main was Jason Skelly over Steve Skelly while Matt Emerling won the second B Main over Randy Pollock.

The Curly’s Auto Body Mini Stocks feature event was a wild and wooly affair with eventual winner Sam Huffman of Apple Creek, OH, a recent frequent visitor to victory lane, taking the win over Tom Ogle, Steve Lute, Jeremy Lucas, Jason Thiel, Willie Coblentz, Mike Snyder, Josh Robinson, Ron Miller and Roger Rush, Jr. Taking the B Main win was Snyder over Rush, Jr.

In the Smokeland Cruiser Season Championship event it was Frank Oriti, no stranger to victory lane, taking the top honors over Paul McVicker, Ed Carpenter, Mike Graber, Ed Brenneman, Chad Craver, Scott Butler, Justin Maffett, Chuck Clantz and Gerald Pyers. Taking the B Main win was Schumacher and Radcliff.

This coming Saturday night August 30 will be a busy and active night at Wayne County Speedway as Fought Signs and WQKT presents Season Championship night and the annual ‘Fan Appreciation Night’. Season Championships will be held for the Massillon Transmission Late Models, Stone Man Supply Sprint Cars, Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks and the Curly’s Auto Body Mini Stocks. As part of ‘Fan Appreciation Night’, race fans will have the chance to meet their favorite drivers and check out their race cars out on the race track as well as have a chance at winning many prizes, including televisions, DVD players and much more. Berner Takes Career First MACS Win at Wayne County
By Jeff Geesey & Jarrod Lehman

Keith Berner, Millersburg, OH, garnered his first career Mid-Atlantic Championship Series A Main by winning the Fisher Performance/WQKT 104.5 FM sponsored 50-lap, $5,000 to-win event at Wayne County Speedway, Orrville, OH.

Berner and Bart Hartman, as a result of their one-two finish in the Dash, paced the 24-car starting field trackside. At the start, Hartman blazed into the lead looking for a three-peat after claiming the previous two Series stop at WCS. His effort was temporarily thwarted by the first caution of the event as Keith Barbara’s mount limped to a stop on the back chute.

Hartman didn’t let a rash of five early cautions during the first eight circuits deter his motivation as he maintained the top spot over a series of serious contenders including Berner, Mark Banal, Corey Conley and George Lee, II.

The surface was near perfection as drivers where able to select from one of three grooves that provided excellent side-by-side action that was occurring throughout the field. By lap 9, Hartman still maintained a slim lead on the point over a very determined onslaught of Conley, Berner, Rod Phillips, and Banal.

The racing was intense as each driver tried to find the slightest tactical error in his competitors driving to wrestle away the position. Lap 19 saw Hartman catching the back of the pack trying to shake the ferocious attack of Conley, Berner, Phillips and Banal. Berner ducked underneath Conley one circuit later to grab second and was then full bore after the leader.

Hartman kept trying to shake his pursuers with lapped traffic but Berner and company would have nothing of it. By lap 30, Berner was within close striking distance of the leader. The duo raced inside and out of each other putting on a thrilling driving display.

In a daring and superb move Berner snatched the top spot on lap 32, to a thunderous ovation. Simultaneously, Conley tried to ride his luck into second, but Hartman skillfully kept the young upstart at bay.

Soon after taking the lead Berner entered into lapped traffic, providing additional leverage to Hartman to work on the leader. Berner kept his composure as he dispatched car after car as Hartman tried many of the tricks in his vast repertoire.

Conley, who was not about to settle with third, took aim on the runner-up spot again and made his move with just seven laps remaining. Conley wistfully blazed past Hartman in a superlative move coming off of turn four whisking the spot away. Bart always the game competitor wasn’t going to give up without a fight for the spot and dogged Corey for two more revolutions before regaining second.

With just five to go, Berner engaged lapped traffic for the last time as Hartman again refocused on the leader. As the battle between Conley and Hartman waged, Berner gained valuable real estate between himself and the now solo Hartman.

Coming to the stripe the jubilant Berner took the win over Hartman, Conley, Phillips, and Banal. Rounding out the rest of the top 10 were Ryan Markham, from eleventh; Jay Watson, from seventeenth; Chet Alexander, from eighteenth; and Chuck Harper.

In companion events Frank Oriti won his third feature of the year in the Cruiser division over Duffy Smith, Justin Maffett, Chuck Clantz and Don Radcliffe.

Sam Huffman won his third feature in the Mini Stocks followed by Roger Rush, Jr., Gary Hensel, Jr., Tom Ogle and Brad Hensel.

And it will introduce people in Ohio to the (World of) Outlaws on a smaller track than they are used to so it’s got to be a good thing. The action is going to be tight and the racing will be great and you’ll get to see the King, Steve Kinser, and Danny Lasoski and all the stars of the Outlaws so how can we go wrong?”

Like I have said before, we are trying to bring in people that have never been dirt track racing and to do that you have to offer them something different and grab their attention. And I think we have done that. At our Xtreme race I saw people I have never seen before at our racetrack and that I know have lived in our area for 30 years. To steal (World of Outlaw president) Ted’s (Johnson) line, we’ll have the ‘Greatest Show On Dirt’ this Thursday.”

MACS ATTACKS WAYNE COUNTY THIS SATURDAY!
By Doc Lehman

This coming Saturday evening Wayne County Speedway, Orrville, OH welcomes the return of the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) on Saturday, July 26. This $5,000 to-win show marks the first of two appearances over three days for the series this season at the Hess and Fink families' facility. WCS, is familiar to die-hard dirt Late Model fans as this semi-banked, 3/8 mile, clay oval treats fans to high speed, door-handle to door-handle racing excitement. The last two MACS events where absolute nail bitters bringing the "house down" as the checker flag flew over Bart Hartman both times as he narrowly defeated Jack Pencil last year and hometown favorite, Ryan Markham the year before.

“I am excited,” stated Jeff Geesey, MACS Race Coordinator on the MACS’s return to WCS. “We have this loyalty with Wayne County because they have been extremely loyal to us. John and Ilene Hess and Dave and Debi Fink have been wonderful to work with and they are very, very cordial and friendly. Anytime you see them anywhere they are terrific and it’s a wonderful, wonderful relationship and they certainly have faith in our series and they have really stepped it up this year with the show coming up on July 26 and again with the two-day extravaganza on September 13 and 14 which will be a killer show.”

Another reason Geesey is pumped to return to WCS is the racing itself.

“Wayne County is a facility that went through several hands through the years but I will tell you that John and Ilene have taken over and are doing everything they can to put every piece of that puzzle together there,” commented Geesey. “The surface is just incredible and we have had some of our best events there because the surface is always extremely well prepared and two grooves of perfection thanks to Tim Myers who does the track prep out there.”

“The year before with Bart Hartman and Ryan Markham running all of those laps side by side for the win, and again last year with Bart and Jack Pencil racing for the win, in both cases it was just phenomenal. The year before Ryan and Bart ran door handle to door handle for almost 30 laps! Bart snookered Pencil with like one lap or two laps to go last year and I’m telling you, the racetrack is there! The race fans at Wayne County don’t know how lucky they have it by having John and Ilene at the helm of that racetrack because they are really in for a treat every night the fans show up at that facility.”

The current top ten in MACS season points offers a solid selection of talent, including Tim Dohm, Jackie Boggs, Chuck Harper, Denny Chamberlain, Rick Bond, Rod Phillips, Eric Myers, Russ Frohnapfel, David “Slow Ride” Scott and Tom Kitchen. MACS’ rookie of the year crop is lead by two-time 2003 WCS feature winner Rick Bond over Myers, Kitchen, Mark Moats, John Lobb, Bob Gordon, Keith Barbara, Billy Henry and Bryan Lillibridge. Plus, MACS always draws a slew of independent teams at their events, like Keith Berner, Lynn Geisler, Steve Lucas, Audie Swartz and Mark Banal, among others.

Geesey also readily admits that coming into WCS will be no cakewalk for

“The race teams at Wayne County are among the best in the business,” proclaimed Geesey. “Wayne County is up there in not only quality, but quanity as well. I know Eric Myers and Rick Bond have been on the road with us on our Rookie program this year and both are doing an outstanding job. And in fact Rick, who is almost our elder statesman, is currently leading our Rookie deal and Eric is not very far behind. And they are both foreboding well with their driving skills and preparation with their set-ups.”

“And the list doesn’t stop there. Ryan Markham is a former track champion at that track and has done extremely well out on the road with us over the years. And I certainly look for Ryan to be with us. I hate to forget anyone. I mean, Mark Osburn, J.R. Gentry, George Lee, Ty Myers, he came and raced over at Lernerville with us and did well. Charlie Duncan, man, is he a threat to win anytime, anywhere. When you list the Wayne County drivers it’s almost like listing a who’s who in north Central Ohio as far as competitors are concerned. Blaine Aber, a perennial favorite out there. Mark Gardiner, Dave Wirt, Gary Dreiblebis, Allan Baker, Thomas Baker, they all do a great job. Chet Alexander, one of the nicest guys I have met and I can honestly tell you that. Every time we visit Wayne County whether we’re there as spectators or with the series, he’s so decent. It’s just such a wonderful family atmosphere to walk into there and the drivers are truly glad to see you.”
