Brent Rhebergen tops York Triathlon Modifieds at Sharon

Hartford, Ohio (September 13, 2003) - Brent Rhebergen from Clymer, NY was the winner of the Triathlon Racing Series York Modified event on Saturday night at Sharon Speedway. It was his first Series victory of the season, and the sixth of his career.

Jeff Taylor started from the pole position for the 40-lap main event by winning the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash. After a first lap tangle forced a complete restart, Rhebergen took the lead at the drop of the green flag from the outside of the front row. Taylor and Tim Rhoades started to battle for second place. Lap 5 saw the first caution flag of the event, and caution laps counted for the first 15 laps.

On the attempted restart, top five runners Brian Douglas and Rick Robinson got hooked together on the front stretch triggering a massive wreck. Seven cars were collected in the incident, as the cars of Bob McCann and Jeff Sharp rolled over in the wreck. Series point leader Randy Hall was also eliminated in the incident. During the caution period, Taylor's car failed and he was pushed to the pit area.

Rhebergen continued to lead as the race resumed, with Rhoades and Doug Glessner taking up the chase. After a lap 16 caution flag, Fuzzy Stiffler had raced from 24th starting position to run in the fourth spot. Stiffler passed Glessner for third on lap 23, as the next caution flag came out.

A yellow flag on lap 24 would be the final one of the race, as Rhebergen got away again on the restart. The battle was for second, as Stiffler took the spot from Rhoades on lap 26. As the laps clicked by, Stiffler closed in on Rhebergen trying to mount a challenge. But he never got close enough to mount a serious challenge, as Rhebergen would race home the winner. Stiffler settled for second but earned the Hendrickson Performance and Fabrication Hard Charger Award with his run from 24th to second. Carl McKinney moved to third with three laps remaining, capping a run from 23rd starting spot. Mike Potosky passed Tim Rhoades on the last lap to take fourth. Kari Gasser moved from 21st to finish sixth, as Mike Hess, Brandon Wearing, Andy Teno, and Shawn Shingledecker completed the top ten.

Heat Race winners for the 45-car field were Chuck List, Brent Rhebergen, Brian Douglas, Jeff Taylor, and Tim Rhoades. Jim Bickerstaff, Jr., Jeff Sharp, and Brandon Wearing were the winners of the rbracing.com B-Mains.

Randy Hall remains the leader of the York Triathlon Series point standings over Doug Glessner and Mike Hess, as Kari Gasser and Carl McKinney are tied for fourth. Dave Hess, Jr. leads the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash point standings over Hall and Ron Roncaglione. Mike Samuelson leads the rbracing.com B-Main point standings over McKinney and Arlan Coy.

Ed Lynch, Jr. takes York Triathlon Sprint first at Mercer; George snares second championship

Mercer, PA (September 6, 2003) - The Apollo Rocket, Ed Lynch, Jr., scored his first Triathlon Racing Series win at Mercer Raceway Park, but Rod George held on for his second straight York Sprint Car Series point title. For Lynch, the victory was bittersweet, as he entered the busy Triathlon Series weekend second in points to George. However, work commitments kept Lynch from Friday's event, dropping him to seventh in the season standings.

The front row for the season-ending twenty-five lapper was a family affair, with Chad Hill on the pole and his brother in law, Lynch, flanking him. Jason Dolick lined up third in his 360 sprinter with the Franklin Flyer, Rob Eyler, to his outside. Mark Murphy was in the third row along with Ralph Engel. Todd Bauer and Ohio visitor Tim Hunter made up the fourth row. In the middle of the pack were track favorites like Gary Kriess, Jr., Jamie Smith, Ralph Spithaler, Jr., Troy Preston and the first Triathlon Series Champion, Arnie Kent. York Series high-point men, George, Gary Rankin and Andy McKisson were also deep in the field.

At the drop of the green, Lynch took the high line through turns one and two for the lead. He was followed by Hill, Eyler, Dolick, Engel and Murphy. The leaders reached lapped traffic quickly on the tight Mercer oval. On lap 5, Hill and Eyler tangled in turn four while trying to slip beneath a lapped car. The restart line-up showed George and McKisson making substantial progress in the early going. When racing resumed, Lynch stretched out his lead. As the laps clicked by, however, surprising Jason Dolick maintained second in his 360 sprint and he even began to close the gap on the high-flying Lynch. Meanwhile, George continued his march to the front, taking fourth on lap 4, third on lap 15 and second on lap 19. Misfortune struck the Kittaning Comet on lap 22, as he got together with the lapped car of Chad Hill.

That set up a three-lap dash to the finish. Lynch was on the point, followed by Murphy, Dolick, Jamie Smith, Tim Hunter and Gary Kriess, Jr. Murphy brushed the first turn wall on the restart as he tried to pass the lapped car which separated him from the leader. That miscue dropped him to fifth. In the scramble, Smith slipped into second, followed by Hunter and Dolick.

Lynch had a comfortable margin at the checkers. Smith held on for second, followed by Hunter, Dolick and Murphy. Troy Preston finished sixth. Kriess, Kent, Todd Bauer and Nick Naber rounded out the top ten.

Thirty-seven sprints ran four heats sponsored by the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum. Wins went to Chad Hill, Todd Bauer, Jason Dolick and Ralph Engel. Flips by Chris Knopp, Craig Keel and Gale Ruth, Jr. marred the action.

There were two B-Mains sponsored by the Pittsburgh-based law firm of Meyer, Darragh, Buckler, Bebenek & Eck, P.L.L.C. The first went to Andy McKisson and the second to Eric Smith.

George claimed the point championship, despite bad luck in the final two events. Gary Rankin's consistency rewarded him with second by one point over McKisson. Brent Matus and Arnie Kent rounded out the top five. By missing her first A-Main of the season, Sheila Rankin fell to sixth in the standings.

This concludes the York Sprint car season, as the Triathlon Racing Series would like to thank all of the competitors, the tracks, and the fans for their support of the Series. Kriess tops the Sprints, Hess, Jr. wins "THE 100" at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (September 5, 2003) - Gary Kriess, Jr. from Butler, PA repeated his 2001 victory in the Triathlon Racing Series York Sprint event on Friday night at Raceway 7. After losing the lead near the midway point of the event, Kriess regained the lead in the closing laps in picking up the victory. The Triathlon Racing Series York E-Mods competed in the Third Annual "THE 100," with Dave Hess, Jr. from Waterford, PA picking up the victory.

The 30-lap Triathlon Racing Series York Sprint Feature started with Gary Rankin and Gary Kriess, Jr. drawing front row starting positions from the redraw for the top eight starting spots. Two incidents forced caution periods before the start of the event, including one for York Series point leader Rod George who lost a wheel on the front stretch after breaking a hub. On the third try the race went green with Kriess taking the early lead, with fourth starting Todd Bauer moving to second. Through restarts on laps 2 and 7, Kriess continued to show the way as 2002 event winner Arnie Kent raced in third. On the lap 7 restart, an extended period under the green had Kriess continuing to lead, as Jarod Larson and 15th starting Jamie Smith filled the top five. Kent passed Bauer for second on lap 14, as Smith also got by Larson. Kent quickly closed on the leader as race traffic was now an issue. Kriess slipped high in turn four on the next lap, and Kent shot past to take the lead on lap 16. Smith moved to third on lap 20, but Kent still showed the way. Kent led by just over a second on lap 23, when the red flag was needed for a turn one flip by Jeremy Cook. With the leaders bunched again for a restart, the seven-lap run to the finish saw Kent still leading the way, though Kriess was moving in to challenge. Kriess made the move to regain the lead on lap 26, and he would go on to take the win by 1.214 seconds. Smith was third ahead of Bauer and Larson. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Troy Preston, Rankin, Ralph Engel, Gale Ruth, Jr., and Brent Matus. Heat winners were Gary Edwards and Preston. Preston blistered the track with a lap of 15.468 seconds on lap 9 in winning Heat 2 to establish the Raceway 7 Sprint car track record.

The Third Annual "THE 100" for the Triathlon Racing Series York E-Mods started with Fuzzy Stiffler and Bill Thomas leading the field to green. Stiffler pulled into the lead as the yellow flag waved early in the event with one lap completed. Yellow flag laps counted for the first 96 laps, and green flag racing resumed on lap 7. Stiffler would feel a challenge from third starting Randy Hall, and Hall would make the pass for the lead on lap 12. Bill Thomas and Dave Hess, Jr. both passed Stiffler on lap 17 to take second and third. Hall was beginning to lap cars by lap 20, and the next caution appeared on lap 23. The green returned on lap 30 as Hess moved to second. One more yellow waved before another yellow on lap 47, which led to the field being stopped for the refueling break on lap 50.

Back to racing, Hall and Hess continued their race for the lead with Hess now applying heavy pressure. Hess made the pass to take the lead on lap 54 before the next caution period. Hess remained in control through a few caution periods, and the final one appeared on lap 97 setting up a three-lap run to the finish. Hall made one last bid at the lead, but a late slip dropped him back. Ironically, both Hess and Hall turned in their fastest laps of the race on lap 97. Hess would pick up his first win in "THE 100," as his third straight Series win was worth $1500 plus $235 in lap money for leading 47 laps. Hall was second, 1.229 seconds behind the winner. Thomas made a late pass of Jim Frontz to finish third, as Doug Glessner was fifth. Filling the top ten in the century grind were Dale Applebee, Justin Carlson, Mike Hess, Jeff Rudrick, and Jim Bickerstaff, Jr.

Heat winners for the 49-car field were Bill Thomas, Randy Hall, Doug Glessner, Fuzzy Stiffler, and Kari Gasser. The Dash winner was Fuzzy Stiffler. B-Main winners were Joel Watson, Jeff Taylor, and Scott Pangrazio.

All events were scored with the AMB-it computerized scoring system. The detailed results are available by visiting http://raceway7.mylaps.com/index.jsp on the web.

Next Friday at Raceway 7 will be the final event of the 2003 season. The First Annual Fall Classic will be contested featuring the Late Models in a 50-lap event paying $5000 to the winner. Returning to Raceway 7 for the first time in many years in the DIRT-style Big Block Modifieds, as their 30-lap main will pay $3000 to the winner.

The two National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum heat races went to Gary Edwards and Troy Preston. There was no B-Main. B-Mains are sponsored by the law firm of Meyer, Darragh, Buckler, Bebenek & Eck, P.L.L.C., of Pittsburgh.

Despite being the first car out of the event, Rod George will continue to lead the Series point standings over Gary Rankin, Andy McKisson, Brent Matus, and Sheila Rankin.

The York Sprint car season will quickly wrap up as the season finale will be on Saturday, September 6 at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, PA. Dave Hess, Jr. wins the Third Annual "THE 100" for York Triathlon Modifieds at
Raceway 7

Conneaut, Ohio (September 5, 2003) - Dave Hess, Jr. from Waterford, PA was the winner of the Third Annual "THE 100" on Friday night at Raceway 7. It was his third straight Series victory, and this one was worth over $1700.

Fuzzy Stiffler started from the pole position for the Third Annual "THE 100" by winning the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash. Stiffler pulled into the lead ahead of fellow front row starter Bill Thomas as the yellow flag waved early in the event with one lap completed.

Chuck Steinle, Jr. earned the Hendrickson Performance and Fabrication Hard Charger Award by starting 25th, and finishing 12th.

Heat Race winners for the 49-car field were Bill Thomas, Randy Hall, Doug Glessner, Fuzzy Stiffler, and Kari Gasser. Joel Watson, Jeff Taylor, and Scott Pangrazio were the winners of the rbracing.com B-Mains.

Randy Hall remains the leader of the York Triathlon Series point standings over Doug Glessner, Mike Hess, Dave Hess, Jr., and Ron Roncaglione. Hess, Jr. leads the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash point standings over Hall and Roncglione. Mike Samuelson leads the rbracing.com B-Main point standings over Carl McKinney and Arlan Coy.

Rod George takes Oil Region Classic for the York Triathlon Sprints at Tri-City

Franklin, PA (August 31) - Rod George defeated Mother Nature and a stellar field of York Sprint Cars to take the inaugural Oil Region Classic at Tri-City Speedway, in Franklin, PA. The Kittaning veteran swept into an early lead using his favorite low groove and sped away to his second Triathlon Racing Series event of the year and fourth overall. The win, which solidified his bid for a second straight York Series point title, was his ninth of the season at the track, breaking the single-season win mark that he held with Ed Lynch, Sr. and Brad Doty. It also put him into sole possession of second place in all-time feature wins for the sprints at the Venango County oval.

With rain closing in on the speedway, track and series officials juggled the order of events to bring the Triathlon Series sprinters to the track before the qualifications were over for the remaining classes. The adjustment was made due to the lack of an available rain date for the sprints. The decision proved to be a sound one, as rain began to fall during victory lane ceremonies. Track officials tried to wait-out a lengthy rain delay to complete the program for the large holiday crowd, but the balance of the events had to be suspended to a later date when rain checks will be honored.

The feature line-up read like a who's who of Western PA sprint cars and included a number of unexpected visitors. Arnie Kent, the first Triathlon Series champion, and Ed Lynch, Jr., the region's leading feature winner this year, led the field to the green. George and Bobby Clark, a former track title-holder, were in row two. Back in the pack were Jarod Larson, the current Sharon Speedway champion, and travelers Craig Keel and Bob Bennett. Even further back were series regulars Jason Jacoby and Andy McKisson.

When the green flag fell, Kent and Lynch charged into turn one, with Lynch pulling slightly ahead. A flip by Rod Stroup in turn two halted the action. Several minor spins delayed resumption of the event. Lynch led the first lap over Kent, George, Clark and Keel, but another yellow slowed the pace. On the restart, George powered by Kent in turn one and set out after Lynch, who was getting away from the field. The racers who have dominated Tri-City action the last two seasons battled hard for two laps. George pulled Lynch off turn four to take the lead on lap 4. Over the next several laps, George stretched his lead. Separate spins by Scott Bonnell and Russ Sansosti bunched up the field on lap 12.

George, Lynch and Clark led the way when racing resumed. Keel and Larson then worked past lapped cars, putting the top five together on the track. That did not last for long, as George set a torrid pace in heavy traffic. Behind him, however, there was plenty of action. Larson began picking off cars and he steadily closed in on the high-flying Lynch. While Jason Jacoby quietly moved ahead from his eighteenth starting spot, McKisson and Kevin Schaeffer clawed their way into the top ten following early misfortunes.

George led the rest of the way, but Larson passed Lynch for second at the wire. Clark and Keel completed the top five. Jacoby came home sixth, followed by Schaeffer, McKisson (from twenty-fourth), Kent and Todd Bauer.

The three National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum heat races went to Bobby Clark, Bob Bennett and Rob Eyler. Eyler's win was especially good, as he held off a late-race charge by Arnie Kent and Rod George.

There was no B-Main. B-Mains are sponsored by the law firm of Meyer, Darragh, Buckler, Bebenek & Eck, P.L.L.C., of Pittsburgh.

Rod George will lead the Series point standings by five points over Ed Lynch, Jr. Jason Jacoby is third in points, ahead of Andy McKisson and Gary Rankin.

The York Sprint car season will wrap up in the coming week with a pair of events. On Friday, September 5, the series will make their annual visit to Raceway 7 in Conneaut, Ohio. The next night, Saturday, September 6 will be the season finale at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, PA. Rain is the only thing to stop Dave Hess, Jr. in York Triathlon Modified event at Eriez

Erie, PA (August 31, 2003) - A persistent light rain stopped Night 2 of the Parmenter Well Drilling Fall Nationals at Eriez Speedway on Sunday night. Dave Hess, Jr. was leading on lap 25 of the scheduled 30-lap event, and was declared the winner. For Hess, it was his third Series victory of the season, and fifth of his career. He had also taken the win the night before in the event at Stateline Speedway.

Dave Hess, Jr. started from the pole position for the 30-lap Parmenter Well Drilling Fall Nationals by winning the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash as a light drizzle was starting to fall. Hess quickly moved into the lead, as a lap 1 caution flag waved for fourth starting Justin Carlson. Racing resumed with Hess leading, and Brett Porter holding off Al Cressley for second. Just as he had done the night before, Hess built a lead and started to put cars at the tail of the field.

Hess' charge was finally slowed as a lap 15 caution flag waved for fourth-running Jeff Sharp, who stopped in turn three. Green flag racing returned until lap 21, as the drizzle started to affect the racing surface. Future attempts to resume racing caused numerous incidents, as the end of the event was finally declared on lap 25 with Hess awarded the victory. Porter held on for second, as Mike Boyd was third. Cressley was fourth. From 18th starting spot, York Series point leader Randy Hall advanced to fifth place. Filling the top ten were Bob Diver, Mike Hess, Bill Thomas, Carl McKinney, and Ron Roncaglione. The run by Thomas from 25th to eighth earned him the Hendrickson Performance and Fabrication Hard Charger Award.

Heat Race winners for the 41-car field were Bob Diver, Dave Hess, Jr., Justin Carlson, and Brett Porter. Mike Hess and Randy Hall were the winners of the rbracing.com B-Mains.

Randy Hall is the leader of the York Triathlon Series point standings over Doug Glessner, Mike Hess, Ron Roncaglione, and Carl McKinney. Dave Hess, Jr. leads the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash point standings over Hall and Roncaglione. Mike Samuelson leads the rbracing.com B-Main point standings over McKinney and Arlan Coy.

Dave Hess, Jr. destroys York Triathlon Modified field at Stateline

Busti, NY (August 30, 2003) - Dave Hess, Jr. from Waterford, PA destroyed the field in the Parmenter Well Drilling Fall Nationals at Stateline Speedway on Saturday night. Hess lapped up into the top ten positions as he raced away with the convincing victory.
Randy Hall started from the pole position for the 30-lap Parmenter Well Drilling Fall Nationals by winning the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash. Just moments after winning the evening's Late Model feature, Dave Hess, Jr. started on the outside of the front row. Before the event could get started there was a caution flag thrown for a tangle in turn four. The green came out on the next try, and the top two raced side-by-side for the lead. Across the line for lap 1, Hess and Hall crossed the line in a virtual tie. Lap 2 saw Hess forge ahead using the outside lane, as the second caution of the event waved on lap 5 for a tangle in turn one.

This restart would be the final one of the event, setting up a 25-lap run to the finish. Hess again showed the way on the restart, and quickly began putting distance between he and the field. Doug Glessner took second away from Hall, but Hess was driving away from everybody. By lap 15, Hess was beginning to lap traffic, and as the laps progressed he continued to drop cars from the lead lap. By the time the checkered flag waved, just nine of over 20 cars running remained on the lead lap.

Hess took the convincing victory, as Glessner ran a solid second. Series point leader Hall was third. Bill Thomas was fourth, and Brett Porter was fifth. Completing the top ten were Justin Carlson, Dale Applebee, Tim Rhoades, Mike Samuelson, and Rick Robinson. Samuelson's run from 23rd starting position to ninth earned him the Hendrickson Performance and Fabrication Hard Charger Award.

Heat Race winners for the 37-car field were Doug Glessner, Bill Thomas, Dave Hess, Jr., and Randy Hall. Jeff Sharp and Carl McKinney were the winners of the rbracing.com B-Mains.

Randy Hall is the leader of the York Triathlon Series point standings over Doug Glessner, Mike Hess, and Ron Roncaglione. Kari Gasser and Carl McKinney are tied for fifth. Dave Hess, Jr. leads the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash point standings over Hall and Roncaglione. Mike Samuelson leads the rbracing.com B-Main point standings over Bob Diver.

Randy Hall noses Hess in York Triathlon Modified event at Raceway 7

Conneaut, Ohio (August 8) - Randy Hall from Olean, NY scored his third Triathlon Racing Series York Modified victory of the season on Friday night at Raceway 7. Hall held off a last lap charge from Dave Hess, Jr. in winning the Fifth Annual "Buckeye Challenge," sponsored by General Aluminum.

Dave Hess, Jr. started from the pole position for the Fifth Annual "Buckeye Challenge," sponsored by General Aluminum, by winning the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash. Caution laps were to count for the first 20 laps of the 40-lap main. When the green flag waved, it was Hess pulling ahead of Ron Roncaglione to take the early lead. Sixth starting Randy Hall was quickly on the move, taking second by lap 3. The first yellow came on lap 8, with racing resuming on lap 12. A five-car tangle slowed the race on lap 14, as did a ten-car incident on lap 20.

The battle for the lead was intense on the restart, as Hess now felt the heat from Hall. At the line on lap 24, Hall nosed ahead at the line by inches, officially by 0.008 of a second. When the yellow came out later on that lap, it put Hall in the lead on the restart.

A final caution came on lap 29, as Hall again held command of the event. Hess closed in on the final lap and made a strong challenge, but Hall held on for his third York Series win and ninth Raceway 7 win of the season. Hess was a close second, 0.159 seconds behind at the line. Mike Hess ran a solid race for third, ahead of Mike Potosky and Roncaglione. Doug Glessner was sixth, with Justin Carlson finishing seventh. From 19th starting position, Jeff Rudrick finished eighth and earned the Hendrickson Performance and Fabrication Hard Charger Award. Ninth went to Bill Thomas, and Kari Gasser was tenth.

Heat Race winners for the 43-car field were Carl McKinney, Ron Roncaglione, Brian Douglas, Dave Hess, Jr., and Justin Carlson. Jim Frontz and Brent Rhebergen were the winners of the rbracing.com B-Mains.

Dave Hess, Jr. takes York Triathlon Modified event in first event run at Eriez

Erie, PA (July 6) - The Triathlon Racing Series York Modifieds visited Eriez Speedway for the first time on Sunday night, for the running of the Budweiser 30. After winning six of the eight events held at the track this season, Dave Hess, Jr. from Waterford, PA showed the traveling Series runners that it was not a coincidence as he led all 30 laps in taking tonight's victory for his third career Series triumph.

Hess started from the pole position in the Budweiser 30 by winning the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash, and after a first lap incident he quickly nosed ahead of Ron Roncaglione into the race lead. Laps passed quickly and Hess had caught the tail of the field as the next yellow flag waved on lap 9.

On the restart, it was another extended period of green flag racing as Hess demonstrated his home track advantage by quickly pulling away from the field. At the halfway mark it was still Hess leading Roncaglione, but a battle for second was developing. Sixth starting Jeff Sharp took second on lap 23, before the next caution period appeared on lap 24. Just one more lap was completed before another yellow appeared, and the fifth and final one of the event came on lap 27.

As he had all race, Hess drove away again on the final restart, heading on to take the win. With the best combined finish between the events at Stateline and Eriez, Hess earned a $500 bonus from Budweiser. From starting position 13, Dale Applebee passed Sharp on lap 28 to get second place. Roncaglione was fourth, with 19th starting Mike Samuelson finishing fifth. Randy Hall came from 21st starting spot for sixth, and had the second best combined finish between the two tracks. This earned him two tires from American Racer Racing Tires. From 25th on the grid, Mike Hess advanced to seventh and earned the Hendrickson Performance and Fabrication Hard Charger Award. Mike Potosky, Mike Boyd, and Scott Pangrazio rounded out the top ten.

Heat Race winners for the 40-car field were Dave Hess, Jr., Andy Teno, Stu Rickard, and Ron Roncaglione. Brad Pease and Al Cressley were the winners of the rbracing.com B-Mains.

Randy Hall is the leader of the York Triathlon Series point standings ahead of Jeff Sharp, Doug Glessner, Carl McKinney, and Andy Teno. There is a three-way tie for first place in the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash point standings between Dave Hess, Jr., Sharp, and Hall. Mike Samuelson leads the rbracing.com B-Main point standings over Bob Diver.

Rod George takes York Triathlon Sprint opener at Tri-City

Franklin, PA (July 6) - Despite a night-long battle with the weather, the opening event of the Triathlon Racing Series York Sprint season was completed with defending Series champion Rod George driving to victory.

It was the third Series win for the Kittanning, PA veteran and his second straight York Sprint Car Series victory at the track. George interrupted a family vacation to fly to Pennsylvania for the race. He returned to the Carolinas a happier man.

As the sprint cars rolled out for the 25 lapper, fog started to envelop the speedway. The worsening fog made it unsafe to start the race, causing officials to pull the cars from the track. After a delay, the fog began to lift and the sprints returned to the track. The fans and drivers were rewarded with a lightning fast and smooth surface. In victory lane, the ever-pleasant George commended track crews and Series Officials for the patience and perseverance in completing the program, which was also delayed at the start of the evening by a heavy rain.

Brian Ellenberger and defending Series Champion, Rod George, led the field to the start. 2001 Series Champion, Arnie Kent, and local favorite, Jason Jacoby, were in row two. The co-host of Fox Sports Pittsburgh's new TV show, "We're Going Racing," Deana Barbara, and 2001 track Champion, Scott Bonnell, were in row three. George's arch-rival, Ed Lynch. Jr., started in hole number 8.

At the drop of the green, Ellenberger jumped out to a short lead, with George, Jacoby and Kent in tow. Lynch completed the top 5. As the leaders encountered traffic, Lynch moved into fourth on lap 4 and took third on lap 8. The three leaders, Ellenberger, George and Lynch, set a torrid pace as the laps clicked off.

George made a bold move coming off turn four and was the new leader as the field completed lap 18.

On lap 19, Brent Matus spun in front of the leaders in turn four, collecting Deana Barbara and Lynch. However, track officials ruled that the yellow was already out for Matus and Barbara when Lynch spun, so he regained his third starting position. Likewise, Bonnell returned to his sixth starting spot despite a spin in turn two, as he too stopped after the yellow.

When racing resumed, Ellenberger dove into turn one to try to take the lead away from George, but his bid failed and George drove away to a comfortable margin of victory. Ellenberger came home second, followed by Lynch, Jacoby and Kent. Bonnell, Andy McKisson, Charlie Holben, Matus and Sheila Rankin rounded out the top ten.

Heats for the 16 York Sprint Cars were sponsored by the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and by the law firm of Meyer, Darragh, Buckler, Bebenek & Eck, P.L.L.C. The NSCHOF first heat was won by Rod George over Brian Ellenberger, Andy McKisson and Deana Barbara. The Meyer Darragh second heat was won by Ed Lynch, Jr., over Scott Bonnell, Jason Jacoby and Arnie Kent. There was no B Main.

Rod George will lead the Series point standings by three points over Ed Lynch, Jr. Jasson Jacoby is third, and Andy McKisson is fourth. Brent Matus and Deana Barbara are tied for fifth.

The next scheduled event for the York Sprint cars will be back at Tri-City Speedway on Sunday, August 31. For more information on the Triathlon Sprint Series, please contact Series President Ken Wilson at 412-257-1103, or Series Director Lou Long at 412-553-7067.
