After 30-plus years of racing, this was
the last hurrah for Bill Morton - his induction into the East Tennessee
Racing Hall of Fame in 1986. Upon his induction, Morton said: "This
is kind of sad; knowing it took so much help from so many people
over the many years I raced - but here I am, the one getting put
in the Hall of Fame. It doesn't seem right."
Driving this Herman Goddard-built Chevy
II, from 1976 - '79 for car owner Don Gray, Bill Morton won over
75 races around the East Tennessee region. During the four year
span, Morton recorded a career-high 28 feature wins in 1978. He
also won his last track championship, in '78 at Newport Raceway.
