Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others is good you do yourself.

Christmas might be kept as well upon one day of the year as another; but there should be a stated day for commemorating the birth of our Saviour, because there is danger that what may be done on any day, will be neglected.

In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it 'Christmas' and went to church; the Jews called it 'Hanukkah' and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank.  People passing each other on the street would say 'Merry Christmas!' or 'Happy Hanukkah!'  or (to the atheists) 'Look out for the wall!'

No matter how big and tough a problem may be, get rid of
confusion by taking one little step toward solution.

Do something.

Then try again.

At the worst so long as you don't do it the same way twice,
you will eventually use up all the wrong ways of doing it;
and thus, the next try will be the right one.

One of the most common, if not the most common, New Year's resolutions is to lose a certain amount of weight..... be it 5 pounds or 10 pounds or 25 pounds.

Don't do that!

Instead, set a goal weight which you want to maintain, and resolve to reach that weight and maintain it. That way the resolution is one which you can keep throughout the coming year(s)..... not just for the first 10-15 days of January.

Going?
=======

In January 2000, leaders in Charlotte, North Carolina, invited
their favorite son, Billy Graham, to a luncheon in his honor.

Billy initially hesitated to accept the invitation because he
struggles with  Parkinson's disease.  But the Charlotte leaders
said, "We don't  expect a major address.  Just come and let us
honor you."  So he agreed.

After wonderful things were said about him, Dr. Graham stepped
to the rostrum, looked at the crowd, and said, "I'm reminded
today of Albert Einstein, the great physicist who this month has
been honored by Time magazine as the Man of the Century.

Einstein was once traveling from Princeton on a train when the
conductor came down the aisle, punching the tickets of every
passenger.  When he came to Einstein, Einstein reached in his
vest pocket.  He couldn't find his ticket, so he reached in his
trouser pockets.  It wasn't there, so he looked in his briefcase
but couldn't find it.  Then he looked in the seat beside him.
He still couldn't find it.

The conductor said, "Dr. Einstein, I know who you are.  We all
know who you are.  I'm sure you bought a ticket.  Don't worry
about it."  Einstein nodded appreciatively.

The conductor continued down the aisle punching tickets.  As he
was ready to move to the next car, he turned around and saw the
great physicist down on his hands and knees looking under his
seat for his ticket.

The conductor rushed back and said, "Dr.  Einstein,
Dr.  Einstein, don't worry, I know who you are.  No problem.
You don't need a ticket.  I'm sure you bought one."

Einstein looked at him and said,
"Young man, I too, know who I am.
What I don't know is where I'm going."

Having said that Billy Graham continued, "See the suit I'm
wearing?  It's a brand new suit.  My wife, my children, and my
grandchildren are telling me I've gotten a little slovenly in my
old age.  I used to be a bit more fastidious.  So I went out and
bought a new suit for this luncheon and one more occasion.

You know what that occasion is?  This is the suit in which I'll
be buried.  But when you hear I'm dead, I don't want you to
immediately remember the suit I'm wearing.  I want you to
remember this:

I not only know who I am...

I also know where I'm going."

My philosophy on staying "young" agrees with Tom Petty........

Getting older is like riding a bicycle, if you don't keep peddling, you'll fall.

If any of you are around when I have to meet my day, I don't
want a long funeral.  And if you get somebody to deliver the
eulogy, tell them not to talk too long.  And every now and then
I wonder what I want them to say.  Tell them not to mention that
I have a Nobel Peace Prize; that isn't important.

Tell them not to mention that I have three or four hundred other
awards; that's not important.  Tell them not to mention where I
went to school.

I'd like somebody to mention that day that Martin Luther King Jr.,
tried to give his life serving others.

I'd like for somebody to say that day that Martin Luther King Jr.,
tried to love somebody.

I want you to say that day that I tried to be right on the war
question.

I want you to be able to say that day that I did try to feed the
hungry.

And I want you to be able to say that day that I did try in my
life to clothe those who were naked.

I want you to say on that day that I did try in my life to visit
those who were in prison.

I want you to say that I tried to love and serve humanity.

Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was
a drum major for justice.  Say that I was a drum major for
peace.  I was a drum major for righteousness.  And all of the
other shallow things will not matter.  I won't have any money to
leave behind.  I won't have the fine and luxurious things of
life to leave behind.  But I just want to leave a committed life
behind.  And that's all I want to say.

If I can help somebody as I pass along,
If I can cheer somebody with a word or song,
If I can show somebody he's traveling wrong,
Then my living will not be in vain.

If I can do my duty as a Christian ought,
If I can bring salvation to a world once wrought,
If I can spread the message as the master taught,
Then my living will not be in vain.

Yes, Jesus, I want to be on your right or your left side, not
for any selfish reason.  I want to be on your right or your left
side, not in terms of some political kingdom or ambition.  But I
just want to be there in love and in justice and in truth and in
commitment to others, so that we can make of this old world a
new world.

~excerpted from a sermon by Martin Luther King Jr., delivered at
Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia, on February 4, 1968~

HOW TO STOP PEOPLE FROM BUGGING YOU ABOUT GETTING MARRIED

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and
cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started
doing the
same thing to them at funerals

Received this one today from my good buddy Robbie Ferguson:

A lot of folks know the price of everything,

                         But the value of nothing.

There is an excellent book "Priceless: On Knowing the Price of Everything and the Value of Nothing", written by Frank Ackerman and Lisa Heinzerling.
