On Wednesday  evening Lesley got off of our waterbed and then somehow tripped and fell forward on her left arm.  She broke her arm and twisted it right around the elbow.  It is in a splint now waiting on the swelling to go down and then she sees an orthopedic surgeon this coming Thursday.  It did something around growth plates ( that I dont understand). I hope she gets to feeling better soon.  It amazes me how she is doing with her arm.  I would probably be kicking and screaming.  If you all could remember her I sure would appreciate it.  I mostly hope they don't have to do surgery on it.  Thanks

I'll remember her Taz.

Growth Plate fractures/breaks are tricky. My nephew sustained one at about this time last year at the age of 7. They waited for the swelling to subside (as Leslie's doctor is waiting for), which took about a week. They immediately scheduled the Orthopaedic Surgeon to be ready to go during that time, due to his having to be realigned. It healed really fast as children's bones usually tend to do.

He went through a pretty major growth spurt right after that happened, and his arm grew at the same rate.

She'll be fine buddy! Drawing from what my brother told me, Leslie is actually fortunate to be the age she is sustaining that type of injury, as it's typically the end of the growth cycle where a young person has a larger chance for adverse effects.

Leslie will definitely be in my thoughts/prayers...and so will mom and dad.

Richard, been there, done that with Josh. He broke the growth plate off when he was in the 6th grade.  His was next to the wrist. Shifted so bad that he had to be put to sleep and slip the plate back in place.  Some can be numbed at the elbow or shoulder to put back in place. Didn't slow him down either!!

It happened on a Friday just before school was to let out. Playing  "touch football" and he got" touched" a bit too hard.  A boy "touched" him so hard on the front of his shoulders that when Josh fell backwards it broke the growth plate loose. Got him to the doctor, half splint put on because of swelling.

Snowed that night. Josh was on the deck next morning making like a skier and WHAM down he went!! Hit back of elbow and splint, right back up and sliding again!!!  I put him on the couch!

The only trouble we had was the day they were suppose to put the plate back in place. He couldn't eat nothing after midnight and his surgery (manipulation of the bone back in place) was scheduled at 11 a.m.. No problem until they kept putting his surgery for emergencies that kept popping up. By 2 pm. he was pitching a fit!!! HUNGRY!!!!! Finally about 6 p.m. they came to get him. We had to guard the door for the last 3 hours just to keep him in the room!!! Teen age boys and a EMPTY  stomach just don't get along!!!!

He got along fine. Never missed a day of school, either.  Hope it wasn't the arm she uses to write with! It was Josh's that got hurt! Never had some much homework in my life!!! Teachers let him do what he could in class and told me to do his writing at home for him.

She will be fine!!!! Josh has no trouble what so ever with his arm or wrist. Kids can stand more than we think.

The doctor asked if Josh was the type to sit and play video games and watch tv. I told him what he had done the day after he broke the growth plate loose, doctor put Josh in a cast from his hand to past his elbow!!! Said a cast to the elbow wouldn't be enough protection for him!! 6 weeks in that long cast and 3 weeks in a short one below the elbow!

Hopes and prayers that your little girl will have a quick recovery, little ones are tougher than we think.

As "susieqtoo" said, the little ones are tougher than what we older folks think. Lesley will be just fine.

My little neighbor, for instance, last spring Josh was out playing in the backyard with two of his cousins, and Josh for some reason decided he was going to climb his way up onto the top of his dad's yard-barn building. He got up on top, with help of he and his cousins scooting a picnic table over beside the yard-barb.

The trouble began when he had to get back down off the top of the yard-barn, and he fell and broke his arm. Josh is 10 years old, and even with his arm in a cast from about halfway up his elbow towards the shoulder, extending down to his fingers, he never let that cast deter him from doing anything.

Just don't worry, Lesley will be just fine.

Thanks for everyones thoughts and prayers.  It was actually alot better than the doctor at the emergency room told us.  When they put her arm in the splint and moved her arm around the doctor today said that it must have gotten her bones lined up pretty good, but it was still rotated.  Last Saturday Lesley said her arm made a pop and it hurt her and we had to keep giving her pain medicine that nkght.  The doctor today said that she has set her bone back.  They did not have to do anything to it today except put it in a cast.  I was very relieved and was expecting the worst to happen today.  Thanks for everyones thoughts and prayers this has been a good day.  She goes back in 5 weeks to get her cast off and x rays again.  She has been running around all evening with her new pink cast on.

She is doing good now.  Her hand was swelling up, and Evon took her back to the doctor on Friday and they cut her cast since it was too tight.  Well her swelling did not go down.  We took her back to the ER tonight and they spread her cast apart some more and her fingers went down in swelling almost instantly.  She is doing a lot better now.  She is sleeping now beside momma.  A tight cast sure can cause problems.
