Hey Robbie, I can't help you out. Our UT Vols got their butts whupped by Virginia Tech.
Hey "Tinkfan75" and all other Virginia Tech fans, a big congratulations to y'all for the Chick-fil-A Bowl victory over the Tennessee Vols.
The Hokies outplayed the Vols all over the field. Tech's offensive line manhandled the Vols' defensive front, and Tech's defensive front had their way with the Vols' offensive line. Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton had been sacked 12 times all season, yet the Hokies sacked him six times.
Tech's rushing game led by freshman phenom Ryan Williams ran over the Vols. Even when Williams went out of the game, Tech's ground attack still produced. And Tyrod Taylor, he's got a very strong arm. He can zip the ball, no doubt.
The bottom line is, Tech was the superior team versus the Vols!!! There's always a next time. At least I hope there's a next time. It's just a shame the Vols and Hokies don't play annually. I still say the Vols have the better program. I'm talking about tradition, and wins, and conference championships and national titles. But over the past decade, Tech's program has been better (record-wise) than the Vols. Tech's record speaks for itself, just producing its sixth consecutive 10-win season to match Texas.
I could make excuses why the Vols didn't play better, and I'm going to offer a few opinions.
You can't make turnovers when playing a good opponent, which is what the Vols did. Vol turnovers led to 10 or 14 points, and the Vols also squandered scoring opportunities. Especially when a wide-open Denarius Moore dropped a deep pass from Crompton that was a sure touchdown. The Vols didn't score, yet Tech promptly marched down the field and put points on the scoreboard.
Tennessee scored to tie the game just prior to halftime, yet the Vols defense allowed Taylor to throw a bomb downfield to a receiver who had gotten wide-open and the completion allowed Tech to kick a field goal to give the Hokies a three-point advantage going into locker room. It also erased any momentum the Vols had gained, too.
The current Vol roster is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy down, just look at the depth of talent on the sideline. But look at Vols coach Lane Kiffin's first recruiting class and where it ranked, and look at current recruiting projections for the Vols, and the future does look good in Knoxville.
I'm still not a Lane Kiffin fan. I'm a Tennessee Vols fan!!! I think Lane is arrogant and cocky acting, and those are personality traits I just don't care for. I know this sounds crazy, but I pull for the Vols ... not Lane Kiffin. I realize if the Vols do well, Lane's doing well. I was on the phone with a good friend of mine at the end of the game, and we both commented about how Kiffin just kind of "high-hatted" Tech coach Frank Beamer and blew-him-off at midfield. Kiffin basically didn't even acknowledge Beamer. I thought that showed a lack of class on Kiffin's part. All you need to do is listen to Kiffin talk in interviews and he comes across as a smart-aleck.
Congratulations Virginia Tech fans, y'all won the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
But I'm still a Tennessee Vols fan ... GO BIG ORANGE!!!
