It just shows how dry conditions currently are around the region. We do need some rain, and by all means everybody does need to be careful and not toss burning cigarettes out of their vehicle. While saying that, that absolutely ticks me off to no end, too.
I cannot stand to pull up to drive-thru ordering areas at fast food places and look out and see all the cigarette butts that have been tossed out. Not just at those places, but even sitting stopped at most intersections if you look out on the asphalt you will see cigarette butts. I don't know if tossing a cigarette out is considered littering or not, but I think anyone who tosses a cigarette out (if witnessed by law enforcement), should receive a $250 fine. Maybe that would teach 'em a lesson, that they're littering. Put the nasty things in your ashtray, and stink your own vehicle up ... instead of tossing them out. With filters in cigarettes, those will never break down in the environment.
I just hope everyone is very careful while we're in these dry conditions. I know East Tennessee counties currently aren't issuing burn permits.
