I absolutely cannot believe how this environmental disaster has been handled by these yayhoos.

As Northwestern Captain Sig of the TV show "The Deadliest Catch" so accurately stated on "After the Catch" the other night, "This is the second largest fishery in the country"...he is correct and if this cap doesn't fix the problem, I'd blow the British off of the map...AGAIN!

I refuse to jump on the bandwagon against BP.  Why?  Because we don't know exactly how the Fed. Govt has hindered their actions.  In addition, it was the Fed Govt.'s responsibility to prevent this accident.  BP is not going to do anything except follow the regulations they are given.  Who would expect a for-profit company to do anymore that costs more money?  So, the regulations didn't call for two safety valves (as is the case in other countries) and there were many other mistakes by the Fed Govt.  This is just a case of the Fed's trying to keep the spotlight off of them.

I commend BP for taking action and spending BILLIONS of dollars to try to fix this mess.  They could have simply walked away and said you fix it (to the feds).  Either way, they're going to be investigated for criminal and civil liability, so you figure on that.

They're doing the "right thing" and should be commended.  If it were that easy to fix, then those complaining about the way it is being handled should get their butts in their big fat SUV, fill up with oil and gas, and go down to the Gulf and fix it.

Could not have said it any better Oldpro. If it wasn't for the Fed Gov, they would not be drilling in deep water in the first place. Thats all I'm going to say before I get so mad that I can not think calmly.

BP's parent company drilled it's first offshore oil well in 1947, they would, or certainly should know what is and isn't realistic minimum safety requirements, far better than any government agency.  They decided to take a risk, for the almighty dollar, and killed 11 of their own workers, besides all the enviromental damage they've done, and still doing.

Criminal investigation justified ? You better believe it .

Tom,that sounds like it came straight from the Fed Govt or the mostly Fed Govt protecting media.

However, the thing that caught my attention, from your post was the fact that BP drilled it's first well in 1947. Let's see, that was 63 years ago. 63 years of our enjoying the benefits of cheap oil, and no major accidents by BP?

When a company tries to make as much money as it can for it's shareholders it's not greed. It is free enterprise.

If they didn't use REQUIRED (by the Fed Govt) safety practices, then yes, they should be criminally investigated. If they did use every safety practice required by the regulatory authority over Deep Sea drilling, then they did nothing wrong.

The Feds haven't stepped up and taken their responsibility. BP has.

I'll help you out. There are many other safer places they could be drilling, but the Feds won't let them. Right?

On top of that, the Federal Govt regulates drilling, and unless they did something that the regulations said they couldn't or didn't do something that regulations said they had to, then they didn't do anything wrong.

As for the employees that were killed in the explosion, it wasn't just blue collar workers that were killed. There were executives on the platform, too.

You can bet your Fed Govt is going to try to hang BP, from the administration all the way to Congress, because they don't want the spotlight on them. It's all purely political, purely political.

When I make a mistake, I take personel responsibility for it, I don't shift the blame to somebody else.  BP is shifting the blame, i'm not falling for it.

How the heck is BP shifting blame? They received a safety award from this govt just days/months before this all happened. Where was the govt?

There are a lot of places on US soil they could drill and be safe, but the govt snatches up the land and says no.

The govt thinks that stop drilling and building windmills and solar panels is going to fix things. What they are not telling or have forgotten is that there are other products that are made from petroleum that we used every day of our lives like plastics and the following:
