Certainly did excercise my right to vote!  Major disappointment today though...... Although I was handed a pocket full of nail files, pencils, business cards, postcard size campaign cards, big hero card sized campaign cards, flyers, pens, etc., etc. etc., and so many many hugs from the women and handshakes from the men .... haven't had so many people so glad to see me in..... well.... four years....  HA HA , BUT, I didn't get my usual "I VOTED" decal to stick on my shirt!   .....bummer....  I suppose that with the dismal economy, they just had to forego those this year.

......always look forward to wearing that little decal until the final results are in......   Well, heck.....I guess I COULD just make me one, huh?

All in fun.... I just always try to enjoy whatever it is I am doing.

We probably got there too late also.  We voted mid-day, so they probably would have run out by then. Have to remember that the procurement of those little "I VOTED" stickers would have been by the same group of people who were there handing out hands full of nail files, pens, pencils, cards, etc. .... and handing three or four of each to every person walking by on the way to the polls, because each candidate represented had three or four people representing them and handing out "stuff".

I had joked just Monday with the workers at the Lebanon Post Office that I was glad, and I would bet they were ecstatic, that there would be no more of those hero card sized glossy postcards taking up all the room in my mailbox. Honestly, we received two to three of those irritating pieces of junk mail every day for about two months. every danged post card / hero card had a different photo, but the same danged message!  I caught the message the first time. Each additional card in my box took away more and more of my respect for the candidates sending them. For one thing they obviously didn't mind eradicating forest land to make the paper used to send out truck loads of the SAME message via mailed glossy postcards, over and over and over and over, for a period of two months.  And, darned if we didn't get TWO MORE hero cards, (and call them hero cards because they were 8.5"x11" size glossy double-sided post cards) in yesterday's mail...... on Election Day!  Picked those final two pieces of JUNK mail after we had voted...... Heck, if only I had read that same message two more times BEFORE I voted .......  Secondly, they obviously had no concept of efficient and cost effective use of resources. I pay attention to little things like that.

I also often vote for the local candidate who did not come to my house at dinner time wanting to tell me all the short-comings and faults of the opposition. I go to meetings and I listen to what the candidates have to say about what THEY themselves will do. Talk too much trash about the opposition, or continually filll my mail box with costly junk mail repeating the same negative comments about the opposition..... I am likely to vote for the other person.  LOL

I have been known to switch my vote just before I cast my vote ... as I did yesterday. When we arrived at the polling place, there was one candidate for one county office who shook my hand and talked with me as a friend.... called me by name and seemed genuinely glad to see me. Politics wasn't mentioned. The handshake was genuine, the smiles were genuine. The opposing candidate was there also. I had personally supported the opposing candidate during the campaign.  We walked past the opposing candidate first, and just as I reached out my hand to greet him, he saw one of the local "rich dudes"... and without even looking back at me said "Excuse me", and almost ran over to greet the other person. I was still standing there with my hand out, like an idiot. I decided on the spot to cast my vote for the other candidate.

Oh well... I did make me an "I VOTED" sticker last night..... wrote the words on a piece of duct tape and stuck that on my shirt.

Have to try to have fun with whatever we do.......

I also decided that, come next local election, when I get those piles of big glossy hero cards out of my PO Box.... I will simply glance over the message, then use my Sharpie to write "Refused-Return to Sender" on them and drop them back in the outgoing mail slot. I refuse to be responsible for the proper disposal of them next election. I would suggest that you all do the same.

We had several uncontested races yesterday. There were two on there that I had promised myself I would never vote for. So I didn't vote at all for that position. It was my little protest!!!
