Welcome to the 2017 edition of the RacersLounge.com NASCAR Fantasy League (RLNFL). We will follow the current Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series points system, complete with our own take on The Chase. The season will be broken down into 4 separate 10-race Quarters. There will also be an on-going tally for the season, which will climax with a 10-race Chase after the 30th event of the season.

In addition to the traditional 36-race schedule, the RLNFL is also adding 4 special events to bring the tally to a 40-event season. Those 4 additional events are as follows: Can-Am Duel #1, Can-Am Duel #2, The Showdown, & All-Star Race.

RULES:

  1. Picks must be in by the start of the race. All you must do is post the name of the driver of your choice on the specific event thread.
  2. Users cannot pick the same driver in consecutive races; if consecutive picks are made, user will receive a 30-point penalty for the 2nd race.
  3. Do NOT edit your post, as this may result in a disqualification or penalty. If you wish to change your pick, simply make a new post.
  4. Users selecting a driver that receives a DNQ will receive '0' points for the selected race.
  5. Users will receive the same post-race technical penalties as their pick.
  6. Each driver may only be picked TWICE during a single Quarter; each violation is a 15-point penalty.
  7. Each driver may only be picked a maximum of SIX times during a single season; each violation is a 30-point penalty.
  8. Users will be required to make a minimum of SIX 'Dark Horse' selections during the first 30 events of the season (pre-Chase), and a minimum of TWO per quarter. 'Dark Horse' is defined as a driver currently outside of the Top 16 in Drivers' Standings (Daytona, Sonoma, Talladega, & Watkins Glen prohibited); each violation is a 30-point penalty at the end of the Quarter in which a violation has occurred.
[For the first 7 events of the season, the Final 2016 Drivers' Points will be used.]
  9. Users qualifying for The Chase may only pick any single driver ONE time during The Chase. Chase qualifiers must also make THREE 'Non-Chase Driver Selections' during this time (Talladega prohibited); ONE Selection for each elimination round (Round of 16, Round of 12, & Round of 8). This rule only applies to users qualifying for The Chase; each violation will result in a 30-point penalty.
  10. Chase participants who use a Default Pick during The Chase will incur a 15-point penalty per use.

NOTES:
• The lowest single-race score that a user can receive is '0' points, regardless of penalties.
• Penalties for Section 17-8 will be deducted following Events No.10, No.20, No.30, & No.40
If there are any questions, feel free to PM me here or send an e-mail to 84EXPO@gmail.com

Procedure for determining the RLNFL Championship standings entering The Chase will be as follows:

  1. 2015 + Playoff Points
  2. 2010 + Playoff Points
  3. 2008 + Playoff Points
  4. 2007 + Playoff Points
  5. 2006 + Playoff Points
  6. 2005 + Playoff Points
  7. 2004 + Playoff Points
  8. 2003 + Playoff Points
  9. 2002 + Playoff Points
  10. 2001 + Playoff Points
  11. 2000 + Playoff Points
  12. 2000 + Playoff Points
  13. 2000 + Playoff Points
  14. 2000 + Playoff Points
  15. 2000 + Playoff Points
  16. 2000 + Playoff Points

NOTE 1: The 11th & 12th positions in The Chase will be awarded to the two users with the most Wins during the first 30 events of the season, providing that they are within the Top 20 in the point standings following Event No.30

NOTE 2: The 13th & 14th positions in The Chase will be awarded to the two users with the most Playoff Points during the first 30 events of the season, providing that they are within the Top 25 in the point standings following Event No.30

NOTE 3: The 15th and 16th positions in The Chase will be awarded to the two remaining users with the most Playoff Points accrued during the first 30 events of the season, providing that they are within the Top 30 in the point standings following Event No.30
If you are the ONLY Chase-eligible (not yet eliminated) competitor to pick the winner during a single week, then you will automatically be moved to the next round (fulfilling this requirement at the finale in Homestead earns you the title of 2017 RLNFL Champion); although, you could still be the lowest seed.

The 40-race schedule for the 2017 RLNFL is as follows:

Quarter 1
1. Can-Am Duel #1
2. Can-Am Duel #2

3. Daytona 500
4. Atlanta
5. Las Vegas
6. Phoenix
7. California
8. Martinsville
9. Texas
10. Bristol

Quarter 2
11. Richmond
12. Talladega
13. Kansas
14. Sprint Showdown
15. Sprint All-Star Race

16. Coca-Cola 600
17. Dover
18. Pocono
19. Michigan
20. Sonoma

Quarter 3 (The Race to the Chase)
21. Daytona #2
22. Kentucky
23. Loudon
24. Indianapolis
25. Pocono #2
26. Watkins Glen
27. Michigan #2
28. Bristol #2
29. Darlington
30. Richmond #2

Quarter 4 (The Chase)
31. Chicagoland
32. Loudon #2
33. Dover #2
34. Charlotte #2
35. Talladega #2
36. Kansas #2
37. Martinsville #2
38. Texas #2
39. Phoenix #2
40. Homestead

There will be a couple of "exceptions" made for the following events:

1. Can-Am Duel #1
2. Can-Am Duel #2
14. The Showdown
15. All-Star Race

Considering that NASCAR essentially uses these four events as exhibition races, the 2017 RLNFL will waive the following rules for the aforementioned events:

  • Section 17-2: Users cannot pick the same driver in consecutive races; if consecutive picks are made, user will receive a 30-point penalty for the 2nd race.
  • Section 17-6: Each driver may only be picked TWICE during a single Quarter; each violation is a 15-point penalty.
  • Section 17-7: Each driver may only be picked a maximum of SIX times during a single season; each violation is a 30-point penalty.

This will allow a user to pick a certain driver for one of the Can-Am Duels AND the Daytona 500 if they want, without the fear of a penalty for consecutive picks (17-2) or using up one of their allotted picks for that particular driver (17-6 & 17-7).

The same will hold true for the Charlotte All-Star weekend as well. This brings up one loophole, which will allow users to pick the same driver for Kansas & Charlotte (even all 3 events) if they wish, but that's fine.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask them here.

If you do not have your picks submitted to me via the Racers Lounge website, email at 84expo@gmail.com, Facebook private message, or text message before the GREEN FLAG then your pick is considered late. Last season, several users made a habit of submitting their picks just before the green flag. In some cases, if the Racers Lounge website were down at the time, this would result in picks not being posted prior to the GREEN FLAG. Considering that there are several days leading up to the event and multiple ways to submit your pick, the website being down on race day will no longer be a valid excuse for a late submission.

I will still being using the Default Selection as a backup for users, which means that if you fail to make a pick in a given week, you will receive the same pick that you used in 2016 for the appropriate event. I will do my very best to have a new race thread posted in ample time to post your selections each week. This change in policy is to ensure a fair and balanced game for all users.

User who fail to make a selection for the Budweiser Duels or All-Star Weekend events will receive last place points for those respective events, providing that they make a selection for the following regularly scheduled points race (either the Daytona 500 or the Coca-Cola 600).

Due to a gross overuse of the Default Selection by some users and the desire to have active participants in The Chase, there will be a points-penalty for utilizing your Default Selection. The aforementioned Can-Am Duels & All-Star Weekend events are non-Default Selection eligble. The penalties are as follows:

1st Default Selection: 5-point penalty
2nd Default Selection: 10-point penalty
3rd Default Selection: 15-point penalty
4th Default Selection: 20-point penalty
5th Default Selection: 25-point penalty

Each participant will be allowed a maximum of 5 Default Selections for the 2017 RLNFL season. After a participant has reached 5 Default Selections, not making a selection will result in '0' points for the event. Users may not collect any Playoff Points or record a Win for an event in which a Default Selection is used.

2017 RacersLounge NASCAR Fantasy League Points System:

• Races consist of three stages, with championship implications in each stage.
• The race winner following the final stage receives 40 points, second-place 35, third-place 34, fourth-place 33; and so on (a 35-to-2 scale). Those finishing 36th to 40th will be awarded one point. There are no bonus points for leading a lap or leading the most laps.
• The top-10 finishers of the first two stages are awarded additional championship points, awarding points 10-to-1 to the top-10 drivers at the end of each of the first two segments. Championship points following the first two stages will be awarded on a descending scale, with the stage winner receiving 10 points, second receiving 9 points, and so on.
• The playoff bonus structure will see the regular season points leader honored as the regular season champion, earning 15 playoff points that will be added to the driver's playoff reset of 2,000 (after the 26th race, Richmond). In addition, the top-10 drivers in points leading into the playoffs will receive playoff points, with second place receiving 10 playoff points, third place will earn 8 points, fourth place will receive 7 points, and so on. All playoff points will carry through to the end of the Round of 8.
• The winner of the first two stages of each race will receive one (1) playoff point, and the race winner will receive three (3) playoff points. Each playoff point will be added to his or her reset total following race No. 26 (Richmond), if that competitor makes the playoffs.
• All playoff points will carry through to the end of the third round of the playoffs (Round of 8), with the Championship 4 competing with a 5000-4997-4994-4991 points reset at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the title.
• The playoffs remain divided into three three-race rounds with four drivers eliminated after each round to set up four finalists for the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Participants automatically qualify into the next round if they are the only active (not yet eliminated) Chase-participant to win in that playoff round, and the remaining spots filled by the point standings. At Homestead, a 5000-4997-4994-4991 point reset will occur among the four finalists; where being the only Championship participant to choose the race winner claims the title of 2017 RLNFL Champion.
• The 150-mile qualifying races at Daytona will be worth points to the top-20 drivers on a 20-to-1 point scale; with the winner being awarded 25 points, receiving a Win, and 3 playoff points
