BORDEAUX, France (Reuters) - The mayor of a village in
southwest France has threatened residents with severe
punishment if they die, because there is no room left in the
overcrowded cemetery to bury them.

In an ordinance posted in the council offices, Mayor Gerard
Lalanne told the 260 residents of the village of Sarpourenx
that "all persons not having a plot in the cemetery and
wishing to be buried in Sarpourenx are forbidden from dying in
the parish."

It added: "Offenders will be severely punished."

The mayor said he was forced to take drastic action after an
administrative court in the nearby town of Pau ruled in
January that the acquisition of adjoining private land to
extend the cemetery would not be justified.

Lalanne, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Wednesday, and is
standing for election to a seventh term in this month's local
elections, said he was sorry that there had not been a
positive outcome to the dilemma.

"It may be a laughing matter for some, but not for me," he
said.

Bear Warning
=============

Due to the frequency of human-bear encounters, the Fish and
Wildlife Department is advising hikers, hunters, fishermen, and
any persons that use the out of doors in a recreational or work
related function to take extra precautions while in the field.

We advise the outdoorsman to wear little noisy bells on
clothing so as to give advanced warning to any bears that might
be close by so you don't take them by surprise.

We also advise anyone using the out of doors to carry "Pepper
Spray" with them in case of an encounter with a bear.

Outdoorsmen should also be on the watch for fresh bear
activity, and be able to tell the difference between black bear
feces and grizzly bear feces. Black bear feces are smaller and
contains berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear feces have
bells in it and smell like pepper.

Additionally, if you find yourself being pursued by a bear, you
must be able to identify the bear to determine how much danger
you are in.

To do this, we suggest you climb a tree. If the bear chases you
up the tree, it's a black bear.

If the bear knocks the tree down, it's a grizzly bear.

Each Day

It was very early in the day, but I was a little miffed.
The feeling was left over from yesterday. You've had those
days, something that happened still leaves you feeling upset,
angry, hurt, or otherwise not feeling your best emotionally.

Today was one of those days.

I went back to bed to perhaps just rest and get my mind and
spirit settled. Then I heard the voice. You know, "that voice."

Call it what you will, but it's the voice that has always
guided your action and conscience to do the right thing.

It spoke, "Each day is a new day."

I understood.

The stuff that happened yesterday was gone. It was over, but it
wasn't over in my mind. Yet I had been granted an entirely new
day. The old stuff was gone and only stayed alive in my mind.

Each day is a new day.

I let the thought sink into my spirit and I felt the negative
feelings begin to fade away and be replaced by peace. I then
realized that I looked at everything new, at every person new.

I understood the awesome power there was if we truly digested
these six words. I also knew that I and you too needed to be
reminded each day that today is a new day.

Grasp these hallowed words and do not let the stuff of the
past ruin your present and future.

Each day is a new day.

Do not let yesterday worry you, nor tomorrow.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry
about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Washing Clothes Recipe
Imagine having a recipe for this!

Years ago an Alabama grandmother gave the new bride the
following recipe:

This is an exact copy as written and found in an old scrapbook
with spelling errors and all.

WASHING CLOTHES

Build far in backyard to heat kettle of rain water. Set tubs so
smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert.

Shave one hole cake of lie soap in bawlin water.

Sort things, make 3 piles
1 pile white,
1 pile colored,
1 pile work dark britches and rags.

To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin
down with boiling water.

Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard, and
bawl, then rub colored don't boil just wrench and starch.

Take things out of kettle with broom stick handle, then wrench,
and starch.

Hang old rags on fence.

Spread tea towels on grass.

Pore wrench water in flower bed. Scrub porch with hot soapy
water. Turn tubs upside down.

Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs. Brew up a
cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings.

$12 trillion and counting is our national debt - but when you factor in unfunded liabilities the number skyrockets to over $100 trillion dollars. They keep trying to raise taxes on the wealthy - but that is futile. If government took 100% of every single Fortune 500 company’s profits each year, it would take 145 years to pay off our debt. That's without any interest and without any additional debt!

"You can't dance!"

That's what my wife told me.

We were going to a party.
It was a lavish event hosted by a well-known lawyer.

"I wonder if they will have dancing?" she asked.
"I don't know," I replied.

They probably would have dancing.
My wife has never seen me dance.
I have never seen her dance.

She assumed that I couldn't dance.

Can I dance?

Of course.

I always knew that I could dance.
It was others who had the question,
especially after they saw me dance.

Did I dance like everyone else?
Well... no.

Was I a good dancer according to the standard of good dancing?
Well... maybe not.

There was always the one or two fellows who got "oohs and aahs"
as they danced. I got more of "look at that!"

I moved when I danced. Rapidly. All over the place.
I had energy. I didn't believe in mild standing in one place
with barely enough motion to shake flies off dancing.
I believed in moving.

If I was going to dance, I might as well give it all I have.

It's the way I live life. If I didn't, you wouldn't be reading
MountainWings now. I had to break from the crowd and move all
over the place to make MountainWings happen. I had to dance.
Some said, "look at that!"

Why do YOU dance?
Different people have different reasons.
When you honestly answer that question,
it will help you to see life clearer.

It may help you to dance
or at least realize that you could dance all along,
even when people said you couldn't.

A poster with this quote hung on my college room wall.
I always looked at it before I went to a dance.

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is
because he hears the beat of a different drummer. Let him step
to the music he hears, however measured or far away." Thoreau

Can I dance?

You'd better believe it!

No matter what people say.

Even President Thomas Jefferson warned us 200 years ago about private banks and allowing them such power over our currency like they have today:

“I believe banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.  If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around (the banks) will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered…”

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Written in 1951 by Meredith Wilson

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
Take a look in the five and ten glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in ev'ry store
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door.

A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.

The following is from MountainWings.com:

My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that year. It was an
exciting season for a six year old. For weeks, he'd been
memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant." I didn't
have the heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the
production. Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with
his teacher. She assured me there'd be a dress rehearsal the
morning of the presentation. All parents unable to attend that
evening were welcome to come then.  Fortunately, Nicholas
seemed happy with the compromise.

So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes
early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down.
Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering
to their seats. As I waited, the students were led into the
room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-
legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to
perform their song.

Because the public school system had long stopped referring to
the Holiday as "Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than
fun, commercial entertainment - songs of reindeer, Santa Claus,
snowflakes and good cheer.
So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love," I was
slightly taken aback by its bold title.

Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in
fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their
heads. Those in the front row- center stage - held up large
letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song.  As
the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold
up the letter C. Then, "H is for Happy," and on and on, until
each child holding up his portion had presented the complete
message,

"CHRISTMAS LOVE."

The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed
her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter
"M" upside down totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a
"W".  The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this
little one's mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at
her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W".

Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the
laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all
saw it together.  A hush came over the audience and eyes began
to widen. In that instant, we understood the reason we were
there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why
even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our festivities.
For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud
and clear:

"CHRIST WAS  LOVE"

And, I believe, He still is.

Were it not for a security guard who was remiss in his duty, the nation might never have heard, or heard of, legendary radio personality Paul Harvey — because he would have been dead at age 32.

Harvey, who died in February at age 90, was known for his trademark delivery of “The Rest of the Story,” and had been heard nationally since 1951 when he began his “News and Comment” for ABC Radio Networks.

At the peak of his career, Harvey reached more than 24 million listeners on over 1,200 radio stations, and his syndicated column was carried by 300 newspapers.

But early in his career, Harvey narrowly escaped with his life when a publicity stunt backfired, according to an FBI file obtained by Newsmax through the Freedom of Information Act.

In February 1951, Harvey — then a reporter at an Illinois radio station — sought to publicize what he felt was lax security at federal installations by climbing a 10-foot fence and gaining access to a restricted area of the Atomic Energy Commission’s Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois.

His overcoat got caught in the barbed wire at the top of the fence, and he was apprehended almost immediately by a security guard.

He was held at gunpoint and FBI agents were sent to question him. An FBI document said Harvey was “questioned not detained.”

But Illinois presented the case to a Federal grand jury, seeking to charge him with “making public, information regarding national defense,” punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. However, the jury did not indict him.

The story doesn’t end there. The most intriguing piece of information in Harvey’s FOIA file is a report that the guard who seized Harvey was suspended “because he failed to open fire immediately.”

Leslie Groves, wartime head of the atomic bomb project, said the guard who seized Harvey “had every right to shoot him.”

Harold Urey, winner of the 1934 Nobel Prize in chemistry, said he was disappointed that guards did not shoot Harvey. Urey conducted research that aided the Manhattan Project to develop atomic weapons. Related work was carried out at the facility that later became Argonne.

Harvey acknowledged in a radio broadcast that “I risked getting shot.”

And....now you know “the rest of the story.”

According to a New York Times/CBS News poll, 26 percent of unemployed adults blame George W. Bush for the high unemployment rate. The other 74 percent blame the fact that they majored in Liberal Arts.

Once upon a time, there were four people; Their names were
Everybody, Somebody, Nobody and Anybody.

Whenever there was an important job to be done, Everybody
was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done
it, but Nobody did it.

When Nobody did it, Everybody got angry because it was
Everybody's job.

Everybody thought that Somebody would do it, but Nobody
realized that Nobody would do it.

So consequently Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did
what Anybody could have done in the first place.

Live a good, honorable life.  Then when you get older and think back, you'll get to enjoy it a second time.

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their
new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish
history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this
to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000
years earlier:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply can-
not exist as a permanent form of government.

"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that
voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts
from the public treasury.

"From that moment on, the majority always vote for the
candidates who promise the most benefits from the public
treasury, with the result that every democracy will
finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is
always followed by a dictatorship.

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations
from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years.
During those 200 years, those nations always progressed
through the following sequence:

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;

2. From spiritual faith to great courage;

3. From courage to liberty;

4. From liberty to abundance;

5. From abundance to complacency;

6. From complacency to apathy;

7. From apathy to dependence;

8. From dependence back into bondage

A Little Dash
==============

Life is like that.

Every now and then, you need to add a little dash to life.
It won't change your story, but it will make it look a lot better.

You can do it without much money; all it takes is a little time
and effort.

When was the last time you've gone to a play?
It's been that long huh?

Colleges have them, churches have them, there are many groups
that put on plays that are rather inexpensive to attend.

Do you have a pet?
When was the last time you've gone to a dog or cat show?
It's been that long huh?

Most cities have them at least once a year.  If you are on the
net, you can find when one is coming to your area.  If you like
cats and dogs, you'll love the show.

When was the last time you've gone to a comedy club?
It's been that long huh?

Again, most cities have them.  Find out when a comic will
perform who suits your style and go and laugh until the tears
fall.

When was the last time you just sat in the park and listened
to the birds sing and the soothing sounds of nature?
It's been that long huh?

There are a hundred other things that if you stop and think,
you will realize that dashes are all around you each day.

Take a break and put a dash of spice in the everyday world.

Remember, on all of our tombstones will be the day we are born
and the day we die.  The only thing in-between - is a dash.

Time flies so fast as you age that years seem to dash by.
For little or no money, and a small investment in time and
effort, make the picture of life more pleasant to look at.

Add a dash. . .

THE SYMPTOMS OF INNER PEACE
by Saskia Davis

Be on the lookout for symptoms of inner peace. The hearts of a
great many have already been expose to inner peace and it is
possible that people everywhere could come down with it in
epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious threat to what
has, up to now, been a fairly stable condition of conflict in
the world.

Some signs and symptoms of inner peace:

* A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on
fears based on past experiences.

* An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.

* A loss of interest in judging other people.

* A loss of interest in judging self.

* A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.

* A loss of interest in conflict.

* A loss of the ability to worry. (This is a very serious
  symptom.)

* Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation.

* Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature.

* Frequent attacks of smiling.

* An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than
  make them happen.

* An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others
as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.

WARNING: If you have some or all of the above symptoms,
please be advised that your condition of inner peace may be
so far advanced as to not be curable. If you are exposed to
anyone exhibiting any of these symptoms, remain exposed only
at your own risk.

The American Farmer and Business Owner

A man owned a small farm in Alabama. The Alabama Wage and Hour
Dept. claimed he was not paying proper wages to his help and
sent an agent out to interview him.

"I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them,"
demanded the agent.

"Well," replied the rancher, "There's my ranch hand who's been
with me for 3 years. I pay him $600 a week plus free room and
board.

The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $500 per
week plus free room and board. Then there's the half-wit who
works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the
work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own
room and board and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday
night."

"That's the guy I want to talk to, the half-wit," says the
agent.

"That would be me," replied the farmer.

A Little Ice Cream
==================

Last week I took my children to a restaurant.

My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace.
As we bowed our heads he said,
"God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would
even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And
Liberty and justice for all! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard
a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country.
Kids today don't even know how to pray.
Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!"

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me,
"Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?"

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific
job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman
approached the table.

He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought
that was a great prayer."

"Really?" my son asked. "Cross my heart," the man replied
Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman
whose remark had started this whole thing), "too bad she never
asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul
sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal.
My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will
remember the rest of my life.

He picked up his sundae and without a word, walked over and
placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her,
"Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul
sometimes, and my soul is good already."

Don't be afraid to ask for a little ice cream in life.

The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling.

And even more beautiful, is to know that you are the reason behind it!!

So I again considered all the oppression that continually occurs
on earth.

This is what I saw:

The oppressed were in tears, but no one was comforting them;
no one delivers them from the power of their oppressors.

So I considered those who are dead and gone more fortunate than
those who are still alive.

But better than both is the one who has not been born
and has not seen the evil things that are done on earth.
