Various weather models are predicting snow fall on Thursday for the Upper East Tennessee and South West Virginia areas!!! Now, that is a week from today and the model says that the freezing line will be awfully close when it is supposed to precipitate. But, hopefully hopefully hopefully, we'll get some of that white, fluffy stuff.

Hopefully you are right ST-1. I'll be in Huntington, W.Va. with my entire family.

Here's how it's looking so far:

After it initially snows once, its weird to see all of the decoration just sitting without snow, with just plane ole grass.

Keep that "Snowmageddon" up in Canada there "racingwrench." We've already had enough snow this month to do me for all of winter. I believe officially here in the Tri-Cities at the airport weather station, 4 1/2 inches has been recorded.

Now this is just my opinion regarding snow at Christmas. If you plan on staying at home, then I guess snow is fine. But when you have to travel to be with family, I'd just as soon it not snow. I've got family who will be traveling here from away, we then meet at my aunt and uncle's on Christmas Eve day and then get together again on Christmas day at my older sister's. So I'd just as soon it not snow. I'd rather drive on clear roads instead of snow or ice-covered ones.

Having been to Las Vegas before it's hard to imagine snow out there. I bet with a little over 3 1/2 inches of snow, people were almost in a state of panick.

Las Vegas gets record Dec. snowfall, 3.6 inches

By Ken Ritter, Associated Press Writer

LAS VEGAS – Flights resumed in and out of Las Vegas, but schools and highways were closed Thursday after a record-setting snowfall coated marquees on the Strip, weighed down palm trees and blanketed surrounding mountain areas. The city awoke to clear weather after a storm that left 3.6 inches at McCarran International Airport. It was biggest December snowfall on record there, and the worst for any month since a 7 1/2-inch accumulation in January 1979, forecasters said.

The storm Wednesday and early Thursday also dumped snow or rain and snarled travel in other parts of Nevada, much of southern California and parts of northern Arizona.

"It looks like Whoville, all snowy, but with less joy and more extreme misery," said Calen Weiss, 19, who was stuck Wednesday when snow in the Cajon Pass east of Los Angeles disrupted travel on Interstate 15.

Cajon Pass and another leg of Interstate 15 near the Nevada line both reopened by midday Thursday, while Interstate 5, the major route between Northern and Southern California, partially reopened.

In Washington state, Seattle got a rare 4-inch accumulation, and the 19.4 inches of snow that piled up at Spokane International Airport smashed the 24-hour record total of 13 inches set in 1950. And snow continued to fall.

Spokane declared a "Condition Red" snow emergency, meaning crews will work around the clock until they complete a full city plow.

For Las Vegas, the storm left heavy wet accumulations of snow along the famed Strip. At least one carport toppled under the accumulated weight, authorities said, and motorists in Henderson parked their cars and walked home when tires spun as they tried to navigate slippery uphill climbs.

Thursday was the first snow day for Clark County schools since the 1979 storm, district spokesman Michael Rodriguez said.

Airlines resumed flights Thursday after canceling dozens of them late Wednesday, McCarran airport spokesman Jerry Pascual said.

"Visibility has lifted. The outlook for the day is much better," Pascual said as the sun rose Thursday. Pascual said just one flight had gotten out overnight and stranded travelers were forced to sleep on lounge seats and floors at the nation's sixth-busiest airport.

In Arizona, snow was widespread in the state's higher elevations, with 24-hour accumulations reaching 10 inches in Flagstaff by daybreak. By 10 a.m. Thursday, official weather service measurements had 18 inches of snow on the ground in Flagstaff.

Authorities said major highways were open but advised drivers to be careful of packed snow and ice.

In western Washington, the Seattle School District had been mocked by some for closing schools Wednesday with just a threat of snow. The threat became a reality Thursday, and 4 inches of snow by midday left many drivers spinning their wheels on slippery roads.

The National Weather Service said the city even had an episode of "thundersnow" when a storm cell moved across Puget Sound.

Rachel Bjork, 36, waited in vain for a downtown bus at a stop in north Seattle as four outbound buses passed.

"I'm getting a little annoyed. It's cold," Bjork said. "I would suspect there's probably going to be four people at work. Usually there's 30."

In Kitsap County, across Puget Sound from Seattle, authorities said freezing weather may have claimed the life of a 36-year-old man who wandered from his house wearing only light clothing. Deputies said he had been ill and there was no evidence of foul play.

Even Malibu, Calif., got a dusting of snow Wednesday, as the usually balmy city saw a half-inch in the afternoon.

"It's kind of cool if you think about it, said Craig Levy, director of a juvenile detention camp. "It's kind of unusual to see snow in Malibu."

Bug Jr drove through the throat of that storm...started out at 9am and by 1030a he said he couldn't see squat by the time he got to Binghamton...had to drive the mountains and into Scranton...finally change to a mix and then to all rain about 40 miles south.

He be tired!!!

Vegas got 3.6 inches in December...been colder than normal here this month/year...must be that global warming

No snow until January...bummer...the only way that can change is if they have missed the track of a developing low somewhere.

I don't know...GFS model (the most advanced one on the net for free) is still saying that we may get some of the good stuff Sunday afternoon. Then, it's supposed to get really frigid after the freezing line crosses over us and gets all the way down into the Deep South.

But, it says there is not a chance of snow at all come Christmas.

Well, maybe no snow (which I think is great) ... but it's definitely a fact that the first day of winter sure felt like winter. The wind blowing on Sunday and even now into overnight, it's just bone-chilling COLD and the wind-chill is right at zero. The actual overnight temperature is supposed to be around 10-12 degrees here in Johnson City, and I'm sure over in Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina in the higher elevations it's muh older.

With the region experiencing daytime highs this past week in the 50s and even lower 60s, and overnight lows in the upper 40s to low 50s, with it now in the teens to upper single-digits for overnight lows, it's definitely a big change.

Hey "ST1," I remember when I was a teenager like you and wanted snow to get us out of school. Since we're not getting snow for Christmas (which you want), maybe it will snow when it comes time for you to go back to school following Christmas break and it will extend your vacation.

But as I previously stated, I don't want snow during Christmas because I have some family traveling in from out of state. I'll also be out and about here locally on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. And I'll be going down to Middle Tennessee myself the day after Christmas for the day to visit my grandmother and other relatives. And I don't want it to be snowy while traveling.

You know, I would like to go into print journalism but with the way the industry is looking, television is becoming more and more of a consideration. So, I sent Mark Reynolds an email and went up to the station Friday and it was awesome. I got to meet the news director, Tim Cable, and couple of other anchors/important people. Actually, they let me sit at the desk while they were broadcasting live. I mean, I got to sit so close that I could have poked Tim Cable right there in front of everyone. lol. But, it was a great experience and I'm thinking about trying to go see WCYB and their stuff.
