Just wondering, does anyone on RacersLounge collect ball (sports) cards? I mainly mean football or baseball cards.
One of my good friends, he and his teenage son have collected cards since the mid-90s. Steve and I were talking early last week, he was telling me about having attended a sports card collectibles show last weekend and about specific cards he purchased.
Steve and I had never really discussed ball cards in-depth, and he didn't know what to think when I told him about my collection. I don't have any football, baseball or basketball cards newer than 1994.
When I was young growing up, you only had Topps cards. The main extent of my football and baseball cards are between 1964-1976, though I do have some in the 1980s and early 1990s too.
I can well remember when I was young, my dad used to get aggravated at me for "blowing" my allowance money buying ball cards. He would not believe today what the value of my ball cards are. I have a little over 600 total of football and baseball cards. Thankfully I had put those up in boxes on shelves in my basement years ago. But back in 1994, that's when I decided to bring all of my ball cards upstairs and store them in the closet in my front junk/wash room.
In football I have old Johnny Unitas, Bart Starr, Joe Namath, George Blanda, Darlye Lamonica, Len Dawson, Bob Griese, O.J. Simpson, Sonny Jurgensen, Fran Tarkenton, Bob Hayes, Roman Gabriel, and the names go on-and-on.
In baseball I have old Hank Aaron, Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Boog Powell, Jim Palmer, Dave McNally, Tom Seaver, Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson, and many more from that era.
Anyway, just wondering if any others share an interest in ball cards? If so, we might need to discuss ball cards to see if we have cards that we might want to sell/trade amongst one another.
After the first of the year, I plan on sitting down and taking the time to list every football and baseball card I have.
