Did anyone go this year? Last night was the last night so we decided to go check it out this year. They were advertising fireworks and we figured they would be like the fireworks they shot off after that Saturday Spectacular but it turns out they had two guys up in the grandstands who ran back and forth shooting some off lol. But they were great and so were the lights.

And, just like last year, I drove the Explorer about midway up the banking causing my mom to have a stroke. lol

I like how people drag raced when they get to the drag strip. lol. It caused some big bottlenecking but I can't say anything considering I put the petal to the metal myself. Why would you pass up such an opportunity?

It's truly amazing how much it has grown.

My wife and I went down there on our way home from Kentucky on Friday night. It is amazing how much it has grown.

It is. The track always looks so small in person, especially from the infield. Just looking at the banking makes me want to pass out.lol From the stands it's hard to get a good perception of the banking but down there...woah man. Especially when you get to drive on it.

yeah I put my Tundra on the high banks and its a rush. Its a dream of mine to race at Bristol, no matter what series or division.

I went to Daytona in 2005 for the Pepsi 400 then in 2006 I was in the garage and seeing Daytona from the infield was amazing. Charlotte was the sameway too but nothing like Bristol and Daytona

I know! The turns just sort of tower over everything.

If you want to try something fun go to Martinsville Speedways open house or to Lowes Motorspeedway on their souvineer blowout day.....I got to turn laps in my car at both tracks at speed......theres not alot of passing at Martinsville Speedway.....but at LMS they turn you loose on a 4 lap free for all......out of a pack of 30 or so I started somewhere around 20th and by the 4th lap was 3rd....its a fun track to drive......I can't wait till next year to do them both again.

Hey "RACEFACE," I've never been to Martinsville for an open house ... but I have been to nearby Bristol Motor Speedway when they have open house and also to Lowe's Motor Speedway once with my cousin when I was over visiting him in Huntersville, N.C.

At Bristol and also the time at Lowe's, individuals were permitted to drive their vehicle around the track for a donation, which went to Speedway Children's Charities. At Bristol it is $25, which allows you to drive five times around the track. And I believe the time I was over at Charlotte it also was $25.

I know this: At Bristol you weren't permitted to run as fast as you wanted in a "free for all." Six cars at a time is all that was allowed, and you went the speed limit (around 55-60 mph). I saw with my own eyes a couple of idiots get parked for going too fast, thinking they were real race car drivers.

The time over at Lowe's, I know there wasn't a pack of 30 cars out together. I'd say it was about 12-15. And people weren't permitted to drive as fast as they wanted to either. I just can't see Lowe's Motor Speedway permitting people to drive fast (race, pass cars). That's just asking for someone to wreck and Speedway Motorsports Inc. get sued. I've got a photo saved on my hard-drive of my cousin pulling off pit road in his Mustang GT.

Hey "ST1," we rode up to BMS last night to see the fireworks. I kind of figured when it started raining they might not even shoot them off. And as you mentioned, there was nothing spectacular about the fireworks display.

We didn't ride through the complex to see the lights, though. I'd gotten to ride around the complex seeing the lights the night before they opened, when I was up at BMS for the media night when money from last year was distributed to the charities.

And, releases (or waivers of liability) such as those don't mean a thing when a liability case gets before a judge. LMS is providing a facility for non-professional thrill seekers in uninspected vehicles meeting no minimal safety standards to "let it all hang out" for a small donation. If a person should happen to be involved in an accident and get injured, or even worse injure someone else, the attorney who will compete with other attorneys to represent the injured parties for a % of the damage award will successfully argue that the injured party, simply seeking a thrill and being an unprofessional driver, didn't really understand the danger involved..... and that LMS didn't provide adequate safety (such as speed limits and a controlled environment). Somebody, or somebody's survivors, will get rich off the "big one" when it happens.

I've got a funny story about Martinsville. About 10 years or so ago, me and a buddy went up there for the souveneir thing, but that was before you could drive on the track, they just had the haulers in the infield. We went by the gate in turn 4 and it was open, and my buddy looked at me and said "Ya want to?" we wheeled it out on the track, and when we got to turn 1 we were movin, the car was a Frod Tempo and it had one of those bicycle spare tires on the right rear. We hit the turn and it went err, err, err, err, that lttle tire was making all sorts of racket sliding across the concrete. Everybody in the infield got a laugh at us rednecks, and we made 2 laps and went back out the gate with everybody staring. I got another story about souveneir day when Jimmy Mullins tried to kill me, but I think i've already told that one LOL.

I wish they would just cut to the chase and let you drive on the track. lol. But, I was pleased with the fireworks...just about any are good to me. We had just gotten in the infield and parked when they started. Actually, right after that guy who was directing people on where to park directed us to park by the concession stand, his radio went off and someone said that the final car and came through and they were officially closed for this season.

It's always nerve racking when you are going on and off the track because its a tight squeeze and the banking. I gave the accelerator a good punch going up the banking because I feared that if we stopped we couldn't go up anymore. lol. Especially in the rain.
