The article below was in the Sunday edition of the Johnson City Press, and I was wondering what others might think ... regarding the year 2012?
I must admit, I don't know anything about the Coptic Southern Conference or ancient Mayan calendars.

Richard Sutphen is hoping to show others what 2012 has in store for them.
As the featured speaker for the upcoming Coptic Southern Conference, Sutphen said he will “project the audience forward in time and let them witness for themselves what will happen,” using hypnosis techniques. He said he will show the audience what Johnson City and places like Los Angeles and New York City will look like in 2012.
“Those who come with an open mind will be presented with all of the wisdom in the universe,” Sutphen said.
Sutphen is a world-renowned hypnotist and has authored more than 21 New Age books and countless CDs and DVDs. He served as the 2007-08 president of the American Board of Hypnotherapy and conducts seminars throughout the world on hypnosis and past-life regression therapy. His presentation for the conference is titled, “The Shift: December 21, 2012.”
According to one of the ancient Mayan calendars, the world will end in 2012. Sutphen said that along with the “prophecies of the ancient Mayans,” there are clues in the world right now that signal a major change is coming, even if it may not be the end of the world.
“There are a lot of things happening right now,” he said. “The economic crisis, waters rising across the world, these are all signs change is coming. I want to allow others to see what they can do to prepare for it.”
Along with Sutphen, other speakers will be featured at the conference.
Patti Conklin, a medical intuitive, will give a presentation called “Don’t Wish Life, Live Life — What Kind of Existence is in Our Future?” Conklin is said to have the ability to “pull disease” from a person’s body. She also teaches vibrational balancing techniques for improving health and wellness.
“Just coming to witness the great things Patti Conklin can do is worth it,” Sutphen said. “She is amazing.”
Former Ozark Institute teacher Raymon Grace has taught mind development, self-esteem and stress management to social service organizations in five Virginia counties. His topic is “What’s Happening Now and What We Can Do About It.”
Personal consultations with intuitives, mediums, healers and numerologists also will be offered.
“How to Recognize Your Personal Power in a Changing World,” will begin on April 17 with personal consultation opportunities. The conference officially begins with registration at 7:45 a.m. on April 18. The first speaker takes the stage at 9:10. The conference ends with Sutphen’s presentation on April 19 at 2:30 p.m.
Musical entertainment also will be offered throughout the conference by Armand and Angelina. Armand is an ordained musical minister, singer, songwriter, pianist and Native American flautist. Angelina is a classically trained vocalist and classical guitarist.
Sponsored by the Coptic Fellowship International and The Tri-Cities Metaphysical Study Group, the conference will be held at the Holiday Inn, 101 W. Springbook Drive, and is open to the public.
There is no cost to attend the conference, however a love-offering is requested. Fees for personal consultations are set by the person conducting the consultation. The deadline for registration to attend the conference is April 10.

I will come back to this thread and comment tomorrow about some of the research that I have found on the topic of 2012, Quetzalcoatl, Mayan Doomsday predictions, and the possible geological effects that our Earth may suffer.
On December 21, 2012, there will be a change in our world, this much is certain. However, it is my firm belief that the change is up to us.
I advise ANYONE that reads or posts in this thread to do so with an open mind. It is a great big world out there and we are but mere specks of cosmic dust in the grand scheme of things. I'm a bit too worn out to get into it tonight, but I promise to come back tomorrow and explain myself (and the opinions of others).
As a disclaimer, I plan on posting various sides of the 2012 controversy, including anything from plausible scientific theories to alien invasions to the fulfillment of Biblical prophesy. Let's just say that if some of the theories are correct, then we are going to be in for a world of hurt. Then again, it could be as simple as the resetting of the Mayan calendar to Baktun 13.0.0.0.0, in which case the Mayans simply stopped computing their calendars since it is really just a cycle.
A very interesting topic and I hope that we can get some good conversation going on here.

I will admit that my schedule has been filled up, but I promise to get back to this subject soon. Heck, we still have a little over 3 years to talk about it. HAHA!

yeah true, i searched for 2012 and there is a plethera of websites devoted to this topic, and quite a few different plays on what could happen. that is odd that the myan calander forcasts something at the same time this solar storm is supposed to occur

Well they were good astronomer's. But, you never know...they could have just gotten tired of writing the calender since it was already 2000 years ahead and just decided that the world was going to end in 2012. I mean nobody can predict whats going to happen tomorrow much less 2000 years from now...imo. Yeah the possibility is still there and yes events happening now are signaling change but I will still live life to the fullest.

Daytona 500 Date May Change
Since 1971, the Daytona 500 has been scheduled for the Sunday prior to the third Monday in February (Feb. 14-20), which has recently been two weeks following the National Football League’s Super Bowl. But the date of the Super Bowl could change. NFL owners talked earlier this week about adding one or two weeks to their regular-season schedule, which, depending on the number of preseason games, could make the entire length of the season up to two weeks longer. That would result in the Super Bowl scheduled on the traditional date of the Daytona 500. The NFL won’t change its schedule, most likely, until its 2011 season, meaning the first potential conflict wouldn’t come until 2012 at the earliest.
