Okay, so what is everyone's opinion of the White House asking Rick Waggoner to step down as CEO of GM?
Personally speaking I'm not a fan of the bailouts. Bush started it by bailing out wall street bankers and Obama followed up by bailing out automakers. If I'd had my druthers I'd rather see the auto makers bailed out instead of the crooks on wall street but I'd prefer that neither of them get it. Sink or swim....isn't that how it is for small business folks? So what does everyone think?
Thought this might become a rather spirited discussion so please keep it clean.

The auto industry affects so many people that we would be saving more money by bailing them out than we would from letting them sink and then having to live with the depreciation value of the dollar.
As for the Wall Street bankers, bailing them out was not really an entirely terrible idea. I do not like the way in which it was handled, but Wall Street control Main Street. Once again, I do not like that fact, but it is a fact that we have to live with, like it or not. The biggest problem occurred when idiots like AIG started using the bailout money as a reason to give their brass a bonus, due to "unexpected income".

wall street, let them get what they get i think, they have wasted all the bailout money on all this other junk like parties and bonuses, they wasted our money"again" that's just my take. As far as the auto industry, what's wrong with bankruptcy and restructuring? I think that wouyld be the better way for them to go, government is getting to vested in the private sector for my tastes, you can give them all the money in the world, and they are, but if the consumer isn't buying what you're selling then it's just money wasted. it all starts with the consumer i.e. us, if the consumer isn't confident, and able to buy then they won't

Our bar failed 2 years ago cause we couldnt manage money and there wasnt anyone to bail me out...and whose fault was it ... MINE so i took my lumps and moved on if you screw up you take the heat. My tax dollars are to pave roads and keep those people on welfare up on their cadillac payments not for AIG to give to their already billionare employees. Dont givem nothing else let'em sink or swim.

it's just too bad that they don't ask the tax payer's thoughts on what is done with taxpayer money
And as for the white house asking the GM CEO to step down, as I stated above the government is becoming too vested in the private sector, socialism, not good for you , or me, I don't care what your politics are that's scary, bad news

Take a drive past your local car lot. Do they have way too many cars for sale? Who is going to buy all of those cars? Think about it, that is just ONE car lots. There are thousands upon thousands of car lots in this country facing the same problem. The issue with the American auto industry reminds me of the over breeding of racing greyhounds. There are far too many produced and nothing to do with the ones that just won't sell. Thankfully for the greyhounds, there are adoption agencies. For the auto makers, there are bailouts.
Remember that if the auto industry goes down, then all of those employees lose their jobs. It has been proven time and time again that job loss and unemployment are contagious and jump from one industry to the next. I think that it is entirely ridiculous, but I understand the system and why some things are done for "the greater good".
As for Kelly's comments about having to accept responsibility, I entirely agree! If I am unable to make it with my business, then I will not be expecting a bailout either. However, neither of us are going to employee thousands of people at once. The biggest difference is that "big government" does not care if you or I lose our businesses. However, if a big name player with a tremendous amount of employees goes under, it starts to send shock waves to Washington, D.C.

I kinda have mixed feelings about the whole mess. On one hand, if they aren't putting products on the showroom floor that people want they deserve to fail. On the other hand, with the gov't mandates about clean energy technology and the Big 3 becoming world leaders in the technology, well, that's certainly not a bad thing. The bottom line is this, if this works and makes the US auto industry a world leader the current administration will look like geniuses...but if it fails.....well, you get the picture, it'll be ugly.
