We've all heard the expression "It's hotter than the Fourth of July!" Well, the Fourth of July has arrived and it sure isn't warm.

It's been quite cool all this past week, with nighttime temperatures in the 50s (even mid-40s in higher elevations) and daytime highs in upper-70s to low-80s. Most definitely it's not been hot like it should be this time of year.

I heard on local TV weather the other night, at Tri-Cities Regional Airport so far this summer only one 90-degree day has been recorded at the weather station. Just last night a new record low for the date was recorded, at 51 degrees.

I was in Jonesborough tonight for Jonesborough Days fireworks, and it was unreal seeing all the people wearing light jackets.

Thursday evening I was sitting out on my deck reading the newspaper, and I was about to freeze. It was kind of breezy, and no humidity, and the temperature was 65 degrees at the time. I left going somewhere around 9 p.m., and I can't ever recall turning heat on in July, but I sure turned the heat on in my vehicle. It felt good and toasty warm, too.

I've had my heatpump turned off this week, with windows open in the house for fresh air. But, I've closed windows at nighttime because of it being in the 50s. It's ridiculous, it being in the 50s in middle of summer.

I told a buddy of mine night before last, I'm already dreading fall arriving and then the cold of winter. Give me weather in the mid-80s and above and I'll never complain.

What's happened to Al Gore's theory of Global Warming? Send some of the warmth to East Tennessee. Year-round would be fine with me, too.
