Do a little bit of Google searching and let me know what your thoughts are on these two individuals. ENTIRE opposite ends of the spectrum. One is being hailed as a hero, while one is just another bruiser that needs to be taken out back...IMHO

Well I'll say this: I fell asleep while watching Boise State vs. Oregon after earlier in the night watching South Carolina beat North Carolina State in a boring game, and woke up with right at five minutes remaining in the fourth qurarter and watched Boise State record the win.

What I saw from LaGarrette Blount was the most flagrant action in a college football game off the top of my head I've ever seen. What he did to Byron Hout, throwing a hard punch which landed on the jaw ... if any of us did something like that out in public we'd be arrested for aggravated assault. The punch to the jaw actually knocked Hout down to his knees, where he was kind of steadied by those around him. Sure, Hout said something to Blount following the game. But no way should Blount have thrown the punch. It's a wonder he didn't break Hout's jaw with the force he landed the punch.

The actions from Blount were awful, bottom line. He even threw punches at his teammates who tried to restrain and calm him down. Then as the players were headed to the tunnel and the locker room, Blount decided he would attack heckling fans. U-N-R-E-A-L!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In talking with some of my buddies on Friday about Blount's actions, only one had actually seen what happened while watching the game. But others had seen video footage during the day. We all said if Oregon or the Pac 10 or the NCAA doesn't suspend Blount for the rest of the season, justice won't be served.

Blount said, "It was just something that I shouldn't have done. I lost my head."

I'm just calling it the way it is ... LaGarrette Blount is a "thug!" I don't think suspending him for the remainder of the football season is enough punishment. Oh, and he still gets to be on scholarship and will practice with the team? Huh?

I heard some football commentators talking about this incident on ESPN, and they said Blount was a projected second or third round pick at least in next year's NFL draft. But following his actions against Hout, no NFL team will risk millions of dollars drafting Blount.

Where are the Rev.'s Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson when an incident like this occurs involving a black person. If the roles had been reversed and Hout had punched Blount, I guarantee you Sharpton would have been running his mouth! He's a racist if there ever was one. Sharpton would've made it a white on black situation, with the black person getting done wrong. I just wish Don Imus would punch Al Sharpton. HA HA HA HA HA

Regarding Kaleb Eulls, he was truly heroic for his actions. I happened to read about this deal in the newspaper on Friday, and it really gave me a good feeling. Besides being a highly recruited athlete, Mr. Kaleb Eulls will forever be known as a hero in his community. There's no telling how many loss of lives there could've been if he hadn't tackled the girl and caused her to lose grip of the gun.

I hope the young man is celebrated and honored by everyone in his community. They all should be very proud of Kaleb. He should be recognized by the governor and all elected officials of the state of Mississippi for what he did.

Oregon suspends Blount for season for punch

By Anne M. Peterson, Associated Press Writer

EUGENE, Ore. – A day after Oregon's college football season opened, it ended for running back LeGarrette Blount. Blount was suspended for all remaining games on Friday for punching Boise State defensive end Byron Hout in the jaw following the 16th-ranked Ducks' 19-8 loss to the 14th-ranked Broncos the night before.

Because he is a senior, Blount's playing days in Eugene are over.

Oregon's first-year coach, Chip Kelly, told a sobbing Blount about his decision after reviewing tape of the altercation.

Celebrating the victory on the Broncos' trademark blue turf, Hout yelled in Blount's face and tapped him on the shoulder pad. Before Boise State coach Chris Petersen could pull Hout away, Blount landed a right to Hout's jaw, knocking him to his knees.

Blount also had to be restrained by police from fans heckling him on the way to the locker room.

Later he apologized saying, "It was just something that I shouldn't have done. I lost my head."

Still, Kelly was taken aback when he saw the punch on tape.

"That's not what we're all about. That's not what we coach. That's not what we stand for and it's unacceptable," he said.

Blount's suspension includes bowl games. He will remain on scholarship, however, and will continue to practice with the team.

"He is taking this very hard," Kelly said, choking up. "He understands he made a mistake and he has to pay for the mistake. But we're not going to throw LeGarrette Blount out on the street."

Kelly said he hoped Blount's ultimate legacy "won't be a YouTube clip of what happened to him on September 3rd in Boise, Idaho."

Hout won't be suspended for taunting Blount. Boise State spokesman Max Corbet told The Associated Press in an e-mail that Petersen planned to spend time with Hout this week to help him learn from what happened.

Mike Bellotti, who stepped aside as head coach to become Oregon's athletic director this summer, said the Pac-10 was consulted about the punishment and supported Oregon's decision.

Bellotti was with Kelly when the Blount was told of the suspension and described the running back's reaction as dismay.

"It was a very difficult decision and one I don't think he was expecting, but he was aware there was a certain amount of gravity to the situation," Bellotti said.

Oregon president Richard Lariviere called Blount's behavior "reprehensible."

"We do not and will not tolerate the actions that were taken by our player. Oregon's loyal fans expect and deserve better," Lariviere said in a statement.

Blount, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound transfer from East Mississippi CC, rushed for 1,002 yards and a school-record 17 touchdowns last season.

On Thursday night, he had eight carries for a loss of five yards.

In February, Blount was suspended indefinitely from the team for "failure to fulfill team obligations." Bellotti did not share details, but Blount reportedly missed offseason team meetings.

He was reinstated before spring practice.

Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott was at the game and saw the punch.

"We commend the University of Oregon and its leadership for taking swift and decisive action in response to this incident," Scott said in a statement. "The Pac-10 strongly emphasizes sportsmanship and fair play in all its athletic competitions and expects high standards of sportsmanship from all participants, including student-athletes. In this case, those standards were not met and the university has taken appropriate disciplinary actions."

The NCAA also weighed in.

"Under no circumstance is fighting acceptable. ... Sportsmanship is everyone's responsibility, including student-athletes, coaches, officials, institutions and fans," NCAA spokesman Erik Christianson said in a statement.

(Edited to change misspelled word. Heck, just thinking about Al Sharpton gets me riled-up! HA HA HA HA)

I watched, I saw, and I figured it would be his last time on the field as a college football player. He has had some problems in the past along with other JUCO running backs that have played at Oregon, so it was a no-brainer to suspend him for the rest of the season.

In an interview I watched yesterday, long-time sports announcer Brent Musburger thought he should only be suspended for 2 games, LOL!

This is the risk an Athletic Dept. takes when they recruit JUCO's as there are basically only two reasons a talented player ends up going that route...grades or trouble.

Many success stories have come from the Junior College level when it comes to athletics, but this one obviously didn't work out. The JUCO route can be very appealing to schools that need immediate help and experience at a position. I'm not against schools taking the risk because I believe in second chances; I just hate that one kid has potentially hurt an entire team.

I'll also state this: Oregon never seemed to "hit its stride" in that game. They were out of sync from the beginning. They reminded me alot of last year's Tennessee's team, which was more talented than their 5-7 record but was just uncharacteristically/unbelievably flat on offense the entire year. I hope that doesn't happen to Oregon. I wouldn't wish that kind of frustration on anyone.

Make no mistake about it though: Boise State is one heckuva team and will stomp the rest of its competition, most likely finishing this season undefeated and appearing in a BCS bowl game again. I think we all know what happened last time. I know I wouldn't want to play them.

Okay, I'll weigh in with a little bit of in-depth analysis on the situation:

Champ = Kaleb Eulls
Chump = LaGarrette Blount

Well, that didn't take long...HAHA!!!!

Well, well, well ... now the Pac 10 and Oregon are reinstating LeGarrett Blount. In my opinion, no way should this be happening.

Pac-10 reinstates Oregon’s Blount

Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, who was suspended for the season after punching a Boise State player in the wake of the season opener, has been allowed to rejoin the Ducks.

The university requested Blount’s reinstatement, which was approved by Pacific-10 Conference Commissioner Larry Scott on Monday.

Blount will be able to play for the No. 14 Ducks on Saturday night when they host Arizona State. He missed eight games.

Blount issued a statement saying he was grateful to Oregon coach Chip Kelly for giving him a second chance.

“Now it is up to me to prove to people that their lasting impressions of me are not what they saw in Boise,” he said.

Blount punched Byron Hout following the nationally televised opener, bringing the Broncos’ defensive end to his knees. The next day he was suspended for the season by Kelly, but he was allowed to keep his scholarship and practice with the team.

“We have tremendous respect for Oregon. Those coaches, we know most of those guys very well. And so, whatever they decide we’re 100 percent behind. I think that’s good for all involved if that’s what they chose to do,” Boise State coach Chris Petersen said.

Kelly later said that if Blount met certain academic and behavioral conditions, he would be allowed to return. The earliest possible date for his reinstatement was last Saturday’s game against Stanford, but the Ducks waited until this week to bring him back. Kelly insisted there was no delay in Blount’s return.

Kelly would not discuss the special requirements for reinstatement, calling it a private issue.

Kelly recommended Blount’s return to athletic director Mike Bellotti on Sunday night. It was approved by university President Richard Lariviere before being turned over to the conference for approval.

“After a thorough review of the situation, I am convinced LeGarrette Blount paid a significant and appropriate price for the mistakes he made on the field, and that he has learned important life-long lessons,” Scott said.

Blount and Kelly addressed the team on Monday morning.

“He just apologized to them again for the incident,” and told them he was anxious to rejoin the team,” Kelly said. Blount practiced with the team afterward.

Blount said in his statement released by the university that he would not speak to reporters.

“Until that time, I feel my actions can speak louder than anything I could say. I just want to help my teammates who have been supportive of me,” his statement said.

Blount rushed for 1,002 yards last season. Redshirt freshman LaMichael James emerged as Oregon’s starter in his absence.

James has run for 1,043 yards so far this season, becoming the first Oregon freshman to go over 1,000 yards rushing. He has rushed for eight touchdowns.

Oregon (7-2, 5-1 Pac-10) is coming off a 51-42 loss at Stanford this past Saturday. After Arizona State, the Ducks play at Arizona and return home to face Oregon State in the annual Civil War rivalry game.

Kelly said James will remain his starter against the Sun Devils. Blount’s participation will depend on how he does in practice this week and whether there are any injuries, the coach added.

Kelly also said he was unconcerned about reaction to Blount’s reinstatement.

“If I based this program on what public opinion is, I’d have a lot of problems,” he said.
