This was such an awful deal. A local soldier from East Tennessee, in Johnson County (Mountain City) was one of the victims of Maj. Nidal Hasan, the military psychiatrist accused of the killings.

Notice the name - Maj. NIDAL HASAN - it wasn't someone named Billy, Bob, Joe, Jimmy, Scott or Wayne - the alleged killer was someone named NIDAL HASAN.

I guess it's obvious that NIDAL HASAN was an American citizen to have been in the U.S Military. But now look at all the talk coming out about his Muslim background/interests. Furthermore, Maj. NIDAL HASAN was counseling soldiers ... yet Maj. NIDAL HASAN was against war and didn't want to be sent to the Mideast.

I feel heartbreak and sympathy for the victims' families' over these senseless killings at the hand of NIDAL HASAN. In my opinion, NIDAL HASAN receives no trial ... just put him before a firing squad and kill him!!!!! He deserves to be ambushed and killed, just as he did his victims' last week.

Some may not agree with how I feel over the deal at Fort Hood, and if you disagree with me ... that's fine. I know I'm not the only person who feels the way I do. I've talked with several people (friends) about the Fort Hood shooting/killing spree, and everybody has mentioned Maj. NIDAL HASAN, and how our military shouldn't allow a foreigner like NIDAL HASAN in the military.

Maybe I'm a little radical in how I feel, but it's how I feel: I say shut the borders off and keep ALL foreigners out of the United States. If there's going to be killings, at least let it be Americans against Americans. Not some Jordanian immigrant like NIDAL HASAN and other Muslim terrorists like 9/11. I watched Larry King Live last night, and he had the D.C. Sniper's ex-wife and son on the program. I reckon the sniper will be put to death tonight. And he should be, too.

I just read online that U.S. officials said a Pentagon worker on a terrorism task force had looked into Hasan's background months ago. Two officials said the group had been notified of communications between Hasan and a radical Islamic imam overseas and the information had been turned over to a Defense Criminal Investigative Service employee assigned to the task force.

The revelation provided fresh evidence the military had been keeping an eye on the Army psychiatrist before the shooting rampage.

One soldier who attended the memorial said the mood at Fort Hood was turning from sadness to anger as soldiers learned more about Hasan's background.

"A lot of folks are angry because they feel this could have been prevented," said Spc. Brian Hill, a 25-year-old soldier from Nashville, Tenn., who was injured in Iraq and walks with a cane. "Somebody should have been paying attention."

According to the laws that have been in force for 230 years he was as much a citizen as you or me, he was born in this country.

Also as long as the USA has exsisted it has allowed non-citizens to serve in our military.

Me and many others have fought for this country, we took a oath to its laws and its constitution, I don't think either should be ignored just because they're not convenient sometimes.

Nidal will be tried under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, it still has a death penalty for murder, and if he did this under anybody elses influence he can also be tried for treason.  The UCMJ has very tough requirments to meet to plead insanity.

Firing Squad ??? No , the firing squad is for soldiers, this guy is no soldier, hang him like the common criminal he is.

    Firing Squad ???

There are several things about this situation that are confusing to me. For starters, regardless of whether Hasan was a member of the U.S. Military or not, his background should have been heavily scrutinized before he was allowed to practice psychiatry. The reported intelligence information regarding Hasan's supposed conversations/connections with a radical Islamic group are equally, if not more so troubling.

The more and more that we hear about these tragedies and terrorist attacks, it seems that information starts getting out that the Pentagon had been "tracking" the individuals and/or situation for months. Reports seem to be painting the picture that our Intelligence groups are monitoring these hot bed situations, but in the end, destruction is occurring without anything ever being done.

As Tom mentioned, the UCMJ are really strict about not allowing people to plead insanity. If the UCMJ were to try Hasan for treason, things could get interesting. Adam Pearlman (aka Adam Yahiye Gadahn) was "convicted" in 2006, but the U.S. Government has not been able to extradite him as of yet.

I think that the last time that the U.S. executed one of its own citizens for treason would be Julius and Ethel Rosenberg in 1953. We're talking about well over 56 years! This could be history in the making.

The military will sentence you to death  for murder, but they've only carried out 11 executions since 1951

There was a situation like this in 1995 at Ft. Bragg. A sgt. Kreutzer shot 19 troops, one died. He was sentenced to death, in 2004 it was commuted to life. In 2007 he was granted a new trial. He plead guilty in the pre-trial hearing and was sentenced to life .
