If I am reading it correctly, anytime after the Daytona Races you could pick a dark horse, and after this week the Dark Horse qualifiers are determined by this year's points. Through this race it was all based on final 2011 standings.

foggdawg77 is correct. You can begin picking Dark Horses after Daytona. Starting next week @ Martinsville, the Dark Horse list will be edited to reflect the 2012 NASCAR Driver Standings.
