A Dream Come True for Ryan Stiltner

Coeburn, VA: Ryan Stiltner, a native of Grundy, VA, had his dream come true when he claimed the 2013 Late Model Stock Car championship at Lonesome Pine Raceway. Stiltner collected seven wins and finished outside the top five only once throughout the entire season.

It didn’t take Stiltner long before he accomplished his dream, this season marked only the third season of Late Model Stock Car competition for Stiltner. “My ultimate goal, when I started racing, was to win a Late Model Stock Car championship,” said Stiltner. “But I never thought it would come in only three seasons.”

Consistency is the key to success and Stiltner knows that as well as anyone. “Each year I have progressed one position in the point standings since I started racing Late Models,” said Stiltner of his consistency. “My first season I came in third, my second [year] in second place and finally I won the championship this season.”

From the moment Stiltner pulled into the race track he felt like his team had a chance to win. “Every time we rolled into the track I felt like we had a shot to win,” Stiltner said. “My team put a great [race] car under me every weekend, I have to give a big thank you to them.”

Racing is a family affair for Stiltner and his father, Keith Stiltner. Keith is a multi-time track champion at Lonesome Pine Raceway and Kingsport Speedway. Even the chassis that Stiltner piloted this season is the same that his father won his first title in.

Stiltner had a great season all around, but there is another moment that tops the list for him. That being his top five finish in the famous Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway. “We had a great season, the championship tops the list, but the fifth place [finish] at Martinsville is a close second,” Stiltner exclaimed.

It was a monumental season for Stiltner, but he says there is still more to come. “I want to repeat as champion next year, we definitely have a shot.” As for now, Stiltner will enjoy his reign as champion and focus on claiming the title once again next year.
