***********************************************
This is the annual BIG announcement that she is the next female superstar racer. Over the past several years, her press releases have had her billed as the next coming attraction and super talent...... in NASCAR Busch Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series, ASA Late Model Touring Series, PASS Super Late Models, CRA Super Late Models, Indy Racing League, Indy Lites..... even a teaser F1 Grand Prix deal....... and, so now she is going to be the next super star in ARCA. The press releases always come out of California, where apparently the word has never reached the California sports press that she hasn't yet done much of anything in racing except serve as a "expert" columnist for NASCAR.com for a short stint. I hope she does well at the ARCA season opener in Daytona. With all her vast racing experience behind her and her many years of racing, she should do well. I hope that this ARCA deal is the real deal.

Hey "SpeedRacer," why don't you try to arrange for Leilani to make an appearance at Lonesome Pine Raceway in 2009, driving the Coyote Racing No. 99.
I'm sure ol' James Kincer would love to interview a beauty such as Leilani. I'd say she just might get ol' James K tongue-tied. HA HA HA HA HA
Seriously, Leilani Munter is a joke when it comes to racing. She's been in decent equipment, but hasn't proven she's a racer.
But, oh, she's a female. And we all know NASCAR has their Drive for Diversity program in place for minority and female drivers.
A buddy of mine, he and I talked recently when we'd both read the names of this year's Drive for Diversity people, wonder when NASCAR is going to have a program in place for "Poor southern racers who are just that, proven racers ... yet they lack the financial backing to advance their racing careers."
I see great things (said tongue in cheek) in store for NASCAR's Drive for Diversity program now that it's in the hands of Max Siegel, formerly of DEI.

Remember a couple of years ago when on the nightly NASCAR report show on ESPN2 (well, I believe it was on ESPN2), when Leeann Tweeden and that other girl hosted the program?
While they both were good-lookin' ... neither were knowledgable about racing. Maybe they hosted because "sex appeal sells." HA HA HA HA
Their hosting careers were short-lived, however, because I've not seen them on TV racing-related since. I first remember Tweeden on the "Best Da mn Sports Show Period."

Well, RW.... as you know there are some very talented lady drivers in racing. I have worked with a couple of them on the PR/Media Relations side... and was fortunate enough to have one of them as a driver for a time. Ms. Munter is not in the same league with those drivers.
We see the same type thing with a few male wannabe's in racing. There are a few whose name keeps cropping up, and a couple who keep getting rides, only becasue of their ability to buy a ride. In Munter's case, more often than not, the ride never even materializes.... just the hype. From what I understand, the ARCA deal will be a real one, with an actual race car, and they will be at Daytona. I wish her the best and hope she does well, for just as with a lot of other drivers, she is getting well beyond the "fresh new talent/young gun" stage. It's time to actually race, or quit putting out annual press releases.

Hey James K, when Leilani drives the Coyote Racing No. 99, can I be your assistant when you interview her? HA HA HA HA ... Heck, maybe you and I need to apply for public relations positions with Leilani, James K. I actually don't know about her racing talent, because it's not been displayed enough. But racing talent aside, she's "got the looks" part down. HA HA HA
I just wish Hostess would drop their doggone "Racing Divas" deal, mainly to get Danica Patrick off the box of Hostess Twinkies. HA HA HA HA ... Man, I've not eaten one in a long time.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I don't even know how those last comments of mine got highlighted. I didn't do that. Or I don't reckon I did. Maybe it's an omen, that Danica Patrick is going to be dropped as a Hostess "Racing Diva." HA HA HA

Well, I've not seen her without makeup. I'll take your word "BugMan" that she ain't all that. So if I'm ever fortunate enough to get to go out with Leilani, I'll stop off and buy her some makeup. HA HA HA HA HA
Hey "SpeedRacer," I'll try contacting Leilani's people who represent her and see if they can't work up a Mary Kay sponsorship for when she wheels the Coyote Racing No. 99 at Lonesome Pine Raceway this year.
This is totally off the subject of Leilani, but "SpeedRacer" ... do you possibly have a photo of the pink Late Model Sportsman car Dale Earnhardt drove when he raced some at Kingsport Speedway? The reason being, and good friend of mine doesn't believe me when I've told him his "hero" raced a pink car. If you do, please post it in this topic and I'll be sure he reads this topic so he can see the car.

I kindly thank you for the offer, that's awesome GGR would let me wheel the No. 39. But Bobby and Forest, let me propose this: How about letting "OldPro" come drive your car at Lonesome Pine Raceway one Saturday night?
"OldPro's" got racing experience, on dirt at Smoky Mountain Speedway and at 411 Speedway. He hosts RacersLounge for all of us to communicate with one another. He also hosts the LPR Web site for all of you racers.
"OldPro" is who lives in Nashville. I'm sure if GGR would let him wheel your race car, he'd come to visit LPR one weekend this summer. So what do you guys say, Bobby and Forest?

Hey RW,
That would have been the Intimidator's first race car. It was 1970 and Dale was only 19 years old. Dale's neighbors, Ray and David Oliver, let him have their 1956 Ford. Dale's father, Ralph, built the engine and family friends, Wayne and Frank Dayvault and their cousin Gregg helped tune it. When it came time to paint the car, they mixed paint that they thought would go with the purple metal-flake roof, but some how the paint came out pink. They couldn't afford to re-paint the car, so Wayne went ahead and painted DAYVAULT'S TUNE-UPS & BRAKE SER. on the side, and Dale raced the pink car on dirt tracks around Charlotte, mainly at the old Concord Speedway. He never raced a pink car at Kingsport Speedway though.
Dale Earnhardt Sr also drove a pink #3 car in the August 5th, 1989 IROC event at Michigan.
Here is a photo of a die-cast of Earnhardt's first race car...the pink Ford. Note that this one is correct in that the roof is metallic purple. There are a lot of die-casts of this car which are all pink.... and they are WRONG. That race car had a metallic purple roof. It was never all pink. HA HA (Just had to throw in a little trivia there.....)

Yeah, I've seen die-casts of the above car ... some all pink and some with the purple roof. I didn't know the details about how those guys mixed paint together and it came out wrong.
I knew the above car was raced on dirt, but for the life of me I also thought one of the first times Dale raced at Kingsport early on it was in a pink No. 8 car.
Besides the car above (a Ford), what gets me is, even from those claiming to be longtime Dale Earnhardt fans, they think he always raced a Chevrolet. They don't even know of his time spent in Bud Moore's Ford.

Another of his early Winston Cup rides was also a Ford. It was the #96 car owned by Will Cronkite. Dale Sr also drove Ed Negre's #8 Dodge some. A lot of his "fans" just choose to know the parts of his racing history which they want to know.... or, the legend as they perceive it to be.
The car you are thinking about which he drove at Kingsport, and other tracks including Lonesome Pine Raceway, was beige (sort of a creme color) and had orange numbers with black outline. That was Gary Hargett's #8 Chevy Nova. He never drove a pink car at Kingsport.

You hit the nail on the head. One thing I've observed over the years is, you cannot talk/discuss the "legend" of Dale Earnhardt with any of his fans/followers/worshippers. They know it all, and they don't want to hear anything negative about the "Intimidator." Not just anything negative, but if you're also not a fan/follower/worshipper of Dale Earnhardt, they think you don't know anything about racing. HA HA HA

I can see it in my mind now. I remember that creme-colored No. 8 car.
