Right now, everything is up in the air (no pun intended) as far as the forecast for Sunday night through Wednesday. The possibility of snow early Monday morning is still 70% according to the NWS. One prediction map--from an amateur--that was valid on yesterday afternoon, read that Upper East Tennessee could see from 6-10 inches! It also said that even Chattanooga could get up to an inch or so. But, I don't think that can really happen as of now. Heck, I would be satisfied with just an inch of snow!

But this entire thing is VERY VERY tricky.

First of all, snow is always very hard to predict. Especially when the temperatures stick around freezing instead of plunging into the 20s or lower.

Secondly, a high pressure system in the Gulf will have a major effect on this system. It will bring up warm, moist air so that the high for Sunday is a balmy 56 F! The good thing:the air coming from the Gulf will be moist. The bad thing:the air is also warm.

Plus, if it really gets up to 56 F tomorrow, I find it hard to believe that the ground will be able to cool off in time.

I don't think this will be a major storm like some first anticipated but you never know...

Hey ST-1!

My son is stationed at Fort Drum, NY. It's just 25 miles from the Canadian Border and 6-7 miles as the crow flies from Lake Ontario. He sent me a pic via his phone from his barracks room yesterday. He has a double window...the snow was literally blocking his view from the bottom sashes! He had to stand on his tiptoes as of yesterday afternoon to see out!

He also sent me a pic of a drift that to me looked like it was well above 10ft high against the barracks wall...

now that's some snow! They are supposed to get another 6 inches 2day and an inch or 2 tomorrow.

www.accuweather.com to me is the best site for predicting weather beyond 36 hours.

Wow! Now THAT is a lot of snow.

I have a favorites tab that has at least two dozen weather links. lol. I am a huge weather fanatic. I love thunderstorms! I plan on getting my SKYWARN storm spotter certification in March so that if SKYWARN is activated when there is severe weather, I can submit storm reports directly to the NWS. Also, I'd like to get my HAM radio license because you can broadcast your report too. I've already got a huge SKYWARN magnet on the back of my mom's Explorer so that cops won't pull me over when I'm storm chasing. lol. Actually, I won't be doing any chasing this year, just spotting. If I get a car before next year, I will certainly have to chase the local severe storms and, who knows, possibly make chasing trip.

But, back to the potential snow "storm", the models keep showing this system as getting weaker and weaker still so I highly doubt we will get any more than an inch if even that much.

From what local TV weather shows, now Monday it looks like just rain. Then a chance of rain/sleet/snow on Tuesday.

Please, please, please ... hurry up and springtime arrive. HA HA HA

I stopped by a friend of mine's car lot Friday afternoon out here in west Johnson City, and he was out hooking battery booster/chargers up to some vehicles. He had gloves, toboggan and a big jacket on. He said "I'm over this F-ing cold winter weather. We've had more than enough to do us this winter. I'm ready for warm weather to get here."

I laughed and told him "Well, you know I despise cold, snowy, wintry weather."

Hey "ST1," you just need to make a trip to upstate New York where "BugMan's" son is stationed. I know a guy from Watertown, N.Y., which is near where Bug's talking about, and no way would I want to live up there. I just don't see how people can live through winters like they get up there. And you can't tell me people get used to it, either.

I don't know...models are now showing that East TN could get some pretty good snow. It looks like Sullivan Co. will get up to an inch or so but Hawkins on down to Knox may see up to two inches.

But I still am not seeing how the ground is going to cool off that quick but the folks down in Morristown say it will...

There were 58 wrecks just on the base when the ice hit earlier this week.

Wow! Ice caused so many problems. Just calling it a nuisance is such an understatement.

It looks like the higher elevations may see some snow now. Some lower areas may too but I wouldn't count on it. The low for tonight is 28 for Kingsport and that may cause some issues with slick roads. Who knows, Sullivan Co. may be out tomorrow.

Hey "ST1," it looks like you might get your wish and a measurable snowfall occur over the next 36 to 48 hours.

I've seen SKYWARN decals on vehicles before, but I didn't have a clue what it was. Cool deal, hearing you're interested in the weather and maybe one day you just might be a meterologist.

Well, I did think about being a weatherman for about a month. Then I realized you have to learn calculus and I went right back to print journalism. lol. But writing is my thing anyway.

Morristown is saying that Sullivan Co. may get an inch today. The mountains could see over three it looks like.

I think they know it's going to snow, but because of the mountainous terrain, they don't have a clue as to what we'll get...could be a dusting or could be 3-5 inches depending on how the Lows' develop and track.

We just got a huge storm here in Kingsport. An inch fell in 10 min. or so. Visibility hit zero and by listening to the police radio, the roads are chaotic. Every road is covered by snow...even Ft. Henry.

Well, where I'm at in Tennessee we've really only got a dusting but it's bitterly cold. I'll be so glad once racing season starts back up to get us out of this cold weather.

Hey Tom I would say I'll come get you if the jeep gets stuck, but I have a jeep and a dodge, so I can't crack chrysler jokes on ya. If you do go out in the morning be carefull, we have a winter storn warning till 6 tomorrow evening.

The snow is so powdery that when the wind blows and gusts there a huge waves and drifts of snow...looks incredible. I tried walking up my driveway but only got 1/2 the way up. But I did take a squeegee and scrape a good chunk of the driveway clean

It snowed hard in downtown Greeneville earlier this evening, but hasn't done much at all since. I heard Southeast Greene was getting pounded.

I think Kingsport got the same squall we got. I was up there until about 5p. LadyBug called be at 415 and said she couldn't see across the street. When I got to town it wasn't snowing, but when I came out of the grocery store it was snowing hard again and stayed that way another hour or so before it quit.

Here in Johnson City, not really all that much snow. In looking out on my deck a few minutes ago, I turned the light on and there's about 1 1/2 inches of snow.

But dang, it's bone-chllin' COLD!!! My WeatherBug shows at 2:07 a.m. it's 8 degrees. I know earlier tonight I put some garbage out, and the wind-chill was something else.

You guys over in Southwest Virginia, I saw on WJHL TV 11 here in Johnson City when the 11 o'clock news/weather/sports was on that y'all were getting some pretty good snowfall. Always when I look at the weather conditions, the COLDest places showing are either Clintwood or Wise.

It also showed on the 11 o'clock news several accidents tonight in the Tri-Cities. A buddy of mine called me about 9:15 p.m. and he said it was "slicker than snot." HA HA HA HA ... He said Hwy. 11E between Johnson City and Jonesborough was very bad. He said it wasn't from snow, but from where the roads were wet from earlier and they had frozen into ice. The same for Interstate 26 between Johnson City and Kingsport, several wrecks on the interstate.

I was talking earlier tonight with a buddy and said, "You know how we've always heard it said, the best snowing temperature is around 30-32 degrees ... and when it gets in the low 20s or teens that's just too cold for it to snow? Well, as COLD as it is tonight, it's proven that theory to be wrong."

I hope everyone has a safe drive in the morning. I'm sure in a lot of the region the traveling will be quite treacherous.

If everybody didn't make it to the grocery store, I'm sure all the milk, bread and eggs sold out. Why is it when snow is predicted that people go to the store to buy milk, bread and eggs? I've always thought it funny you'll hear of people going to the store to buy those items.

Heck, give me sandwich meat (bread for that), cheese, honey buns and snackin' cakes, chips and dip and Diet Coke and Gatorade. HA HA HA HA ... No milk or eggs for me. I've not drank milk in easily a good 25-28 years. Diet Coke, Gatorade, sweet tea and water is all I drink.

For some reason, I think the city and county didn't really salt the roads like they usually do. I didn't even see one salt truck yesterday but when the snow came, I turned on my police scanner and boy they were salting the roads then! It sounded there were wrecks literally everywhere. Heck, the county has always salted our street when the threat of snow or ice came but I'm pretty sure they didn't salt it yesterday. It's still covered with snow!

Oh, but I did hear on the news that some municipalities didn't salt on Monday before the snow because the rain would have washed the salt away before it snowed anyway.

It's obviously been snowing a pretty good bit since I went to bed at about 11:45 last night. It has been a long time since I've seen it snow in this region when it's this cold. I'd say we have 2-3 inches here in downtown Greeneville. My next door neighbor at our Kingsport house says there's about that or a little more there.
