IMHO, Auto Racing continues to benefit from the Steroid scandal that continues to rock the baseball world. With baseball ticket prices soaring in some cities and the racing business seemingly ready to discount their ticket prices like never before, the auto racing world has an entire sports market falling in their lap.

Do they even know it? If it were me, I'd go after it right away.

Alex Rodriguez, who at 32 years old is only 200 homers shy of Bond's "record" has admitted he used the substances up until 2003. Although they weren't banned substances at the time, it's evident the fans think that he and others have cheated the game.

I am personally tired of the shenanigan that is baseball. I "disowned" the sport after the players voted to support in 1993, then came back when McGuire and Sosa has their epic home run race in 1998. Then came the steriod scandals...we found out both McGuire and Sosa were juiced instead of the ball, then it kind of went away again, then came Barry Bonds and many others and it hasn't stopped since (see Roger Clemens).

The racing promoters around the country need to cash in on this now. The injection of new potential fans could bring back the glory days of local racing as well as the bigger divisions too...

...unless of course they bust a few Pit-Crew members or God forbid a well-known driver.

I just went to Jayski and did confirm that Kevin Harvick has released 2 crew members of his truck series team due to failed drug test and Harvick said there is still more out there

Drivers who have been suspended for drugs:

Shane Hmiel (lifetime), Kevin Grubb, Aaron Fike, Brian Rose, and Tyler Walker

Fike was suspended for heroin and admitted to using heroin on race days

Grubb suspended indefinitely on September 11, 2006, when he refused to take a drug test following a second-lap crash at Richmond

Hmiel was suspended 3 times for marijuana and cocaine use

Rose and Walker failed a random drug test but I am not sure what they popped positive for

This is probably just hear-say, but I've heard from a few sources that Shane Hmiel's lifetime ban could be rescinded if he stays clean... which I don't see happening.

Shane was all set to be one of the next NASCAR "superstars". Everything was in place for him..... primarily because of the tremendous respect of NASCAR and everyone in the garage area for Shane's dad. People tolerated Shane's temper fits and mood swings. They looked the other way as a spolied and insolent young man would curse his own mother in the garage and pit area, or as he yelled four-letter obsenities at his crew and anyone else within earshot. Shane was on a fast track to to top. The guy had talent, too.   But he threw it away. The sad truth is that now nobody needs him or wants him as a driver. There are plenty of younger drivers who have talent. Shane is past his prime and is a commodity nobody wants to touch. If he were ever to have his ban lifted, he'd still have to come back with his own, or his dad's equipment.

My buddy is good friends with Shane, hangs out with him quite regular now. He said he's clean now (and knowing my friend, which is a fellow racer I believe that, he's a squeeky clean guy), and he is doing quite well in the open wheels. His dad has nothing to do with him much, so don't look for his comback to have anything to do with his father, he's going to do it on his own. I wish him the best of luck, if he's turned his life around i'll be behind him 100%, I can give support to someone who has changed for the good in a honest fashion.

Oh, me too.

And I know Shane too. Got to know him well during his Goody's Dash Series Rookie of the Year run. I was doing PR and Media work for the JohnBoy & Bill Rock'n Racing Team at the time. I saw a lot, and personally heard a lot. I know that he was tolerated because of the great respect everyone had for his dad and mom. They are wonderful people, and they tried to give Shane a career which most drivers could only dream of.  Yep, I know that he has turned his life around. I talked with him at Bristol a couple of years ago for quite a while. It is wonderful that he has done that and is doing well.

But, it doesn't change the fact that his time has passed. He blew it.... not just once, but twice. The first time was a major disappointment for those who believed in him. The second time was just inexcusably stupid. He may someday come back to NASCAR if and when the ban is lifted, but he will never be what he could have been. What I said above is that Shane had (and has) the talent, and he had all the right connections, and it is truly sad the life choices he made. It is wonderful that he has turned his life around and gotten on the right path. He won't be a NASCAR star though.

Speaking of NASCAR drug tests, did they ever prove that Kevin Grubb was actually impaired on his second support?

I was a diehard Shane Hmiel fan and let me tell ya I was disappointed everytime he got caught. I am glad to hear he is doing well and I can nly hope he will get the chance to return. The best I could see Shane doing is a decent truck ride

Could the baseball hall of fame add a new room the hall of shame or asterisk alley? for all the drug assisted records.
