Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, being Barack Obama is president of the United States, wouldn't it have been more appropriate for the First Family to have chosen a dog breed other than a Portuguese water dog?

It seems like an American breed dog would have been more appropriate. I guess where many American jobs have been outsourced to foreign countries, the First Family decided it would be best to get a Portuguese water dog.

Yesterday afternoon I was on my cell phone talking to a buddy of mine, and I mentioned to him as I was sitting at a red light ... the vehicle in front of me had a Barack Obama bumper sticker on that said "Yes We Can!" My buddy told me to run into the rear of the car and when the driver got out say, "No You Can't!" HA HA HA HA

Name a "American " breed dog .

The main requirment was that the dog had to be hypoallergenic, one of his girls is allergic to dog dander, etc,  that cuts way down on the potential choices.

I think most of the dog breeds that are called american are variations of breeds, like the american pittbull terrier or american bulldog, hey I think the Husky is native at least to the north american continent,

When I say American I mean, a dog without the name (German) Shepherd, (Portuguese) water dog, and any other dog with a foreign name.

I heard all about the dog had to be a hypoallergenic one due to the girls allergies. I don't know about dogs period, hypoallergenic or non-hypoallergenic. All I know is, I (and others I've talked with too) believe a dog could have been found for the girls without having Portuguese or German in the dog breed name.

Isn't that getting kind of petty ? I don't  recall you ever complaining about Bush's " Scottish " terrier, Barney.

A lot of dog breeds use as part of their name the country that the breed originated from. Most dog breeds originated from countries other than the USA, as do the vast majority of it's citizens.

Sorry to bring this topic back to the top but i just had something to add to it. The breed of the dog is not what is funny to me, the thing about this story that made me chuckle was the the family of the second coming gave this fine speciman of the k-9 world. They named the dog "Bo", which if I'm not mistaken, is the name of vice savior, Joe Bidens son, who is currently serving in the middle east. This, in my opinion, is the funniest part of the whole thing, but then again, and I'm sure anyone who knows me knows, I have a warped sense of humor. I'm that the sacior of man-kind didn't mean any disresect, but i thought it was an interesting story.

I agree with Tom on this one. I never thought that I would have a Standard Poodle, but since Gigi is highly allergic to dogs; we went with the hypoallergenic alternative. She was raised with poodles and has always wanted one of her own, but I never dreamed that I would be the father of a (gulp) poodle.

The Obamas got a dog that didn't make their daughters' eyes swell up or make them sneeze. In my opinion, that is a good parenting decision. Nothing against Lady Liberty, but I think she'll understand this one.
