Let us all be careful with anything and everything that can cause a fire to get out control. Please be extra careful when the wind is blowing.

There was 3 fires here in the Fort Blackmore area yesterday afternoon around 3 p.m.. Two were started from power lines and wind. The other was started in a ditch line. Maybe someone was careless and threw out a cigarette.

Five local fire departments were called out plus the National Forestry, Silver City Hot Shots and a helicopter dropping water from the river. The winds made it hard on the fire fighters making fire rings around the fires. The winds get trapped in the head of the hollows and start a swirling effect and lift hot cinders further up the hills jumping the fire ring causing more fires. They got the fires contained around 11:00 p.m.. Josh got home around 11:45 p.m.. Still tired and rested most of the day.

National Forestry kept watch over the fires last night. All fires were burning well inside the fire rings that were made by the fire departments and the Hot Shots.AEP was on scene and had power restore to most of the homes without power within a few hours after the fires started.

Again let us all take extra caution. If you do burn, call the fire department and let them know it is a controlled burn. The fire departments around here have been paged out on so many calls that are controlled burns from people with cell phones.

PLEASE BE SAFE AND USE COMMON SENSE IF YOU DO HAVE TO BURN!!! BETTER YET, WAIT TILL IT RAINS!!

It just shows how dry conditions currently are around the region. We do need some rain, and by all means everybody does need to be careful and not toss burning cigarettes out of their vehicle. While saying that, that absolutely ticks me off to no end, too.

I cannot stand to pull up to drive-thru ordering areas at fast food places and look out and see all the cigarette butts that have been tossed out. Not just at those places, but even sitting stopped at most intersections if you look out on the asphalt you will see cigarette butts. I don't know if tossing a cigarette out is considered littering or not, but I think anyone who tosses a cigarette out (if witnessed by law enforcement), should receive a $250 fine. Maybe that would teach 'em a lesson, that they're littering. Put the nasty things in your ashtray, and stink your own vehicle up ... instead of tossing them out. With filters in cigarettes, those will never break down in the environment.

I just hope everyone is very careful while we're in these dry conditions. I know East Tennessee counties currently aren't issuing burn permits.

So glad for the rain. Been a slow steady soaking rain off and on here for awhile. Every little bit helps.

Thanks for putting the pictures up Lynn!!

Local TV weather showed different parts in the region received more rain than others. I know here in west Johnson City, it didn't rain very much at all. But the weather forecast shows more rain possibly Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. It would be just fine with me if rain skipped on Saturday so racing could be held.
