Salem, IN (October 2, 2003) – The Sunoco Super Series Spray Power Clean Sweep Award has now climbed to $750 if the Yockey Motorsports Marketing Fast Qualifier for the Sunoco Super Series 34th Annual Car Brite 400 this Sunday at Winchester Speedway, can also win that event. Starting with the Sunoco Super Series season opener at Anderson Speedway, Spray Power has put up $150 bonus if a driver can be the events fast qualifier and win that event. Each time the Spray Power Clean Sweep Award is not claimed it will roll over $150 per series point’s event until the bonus is won. If the Spray Power Clean Sweep Award is not claimed at the Car Brite 400 this Sunday, it will roll over to the first Sunoco Super Series points event of the 2004 season.

At Rockford Speedway on September 21st Yockey Motorsports Marketing Fast Qualifier Scott Hantz was in a heated battle to stay in contention for a win through out the event. Hantz battled in third behind Brian Hoppe through out the second half of the Rockford Speedway 250 lap event, until a late spin dropped Hantz to an 11th place finish.

Sunoco Super Series 2003 Points Championship and Rookie Title To Be Decided In The 34th Annual Car Brite 400 At Winchester Speedway

Salem, IN (October 1, 2003) - For the first time since 1999, the Sunoco Super Series has taken over the sanctioning of the 34th Annual Car Brite 400, which will be held this weekend on the famed high-banks of Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana. This prestigious event was sanctioned for several seasons by NASCAR as an All-Pro Late Model Series event and even more seasons by the ASA Racing Series, which had returned to sanctioning the event in 2000 through last season. The Sunoco Super Series agreed to sanction the event in 1999 with the knowledge that ASA would take it back over in 2000. Two time Sunoco Super Series Champion, and current Hooters Pro-Cup Series driver Brian Ross claimed the victory of that 400-lap event in1999 over his brother Scott Ross. Other notable drivers in that field included current NASCAR Busch Series driver David Stremme, two time ASA Racing Series winner in 2003 Peter Cozzolino, ARCA RE/Max Series drivers Matt Hagans and Vern Slaugh, 2002 NASCAR Southeast Series Champion Jeff Fultz.

The 34th Annual Car Brite 400 will be the 2003 Sunoco Super Series points’ championship event with a maximum of 110 points available if a driver can be the events fast qualifier and win the event. Going into Sunday’s event 21-year-old Shepherdsville, Kentucky native Bobby Parsley holds a 34-point lead over Canadian racing legend Junior Hanley. Parsley, Hanley and 2002 series champion Scott Hantz have been at the top of the series points since the beginning of the season. Hantz has seen his chances of a second championship slip over the last couple of series events, but he is still in the running 50 points behind Parsley. Hanley, who finished second to Joel Kauffman in last season’s championship battle by two points, does have the pleasure of seeing a driver he has tutored challenge him for the 2003 championship. Hanley has help guide Parsley in his Sunoco Super Series racing over the past several seasons and Parsley has campaigned a Hanley Chassis to the points lead which includes two series victories at Anderson Speedway including the stock car racing classic Anderson 400.

Long time series veteran Jeff Lane holds down the 4th position in points 112 points behind Parsley. 5th place is currently held by JR Roahrig, who will not be competing in the Car Brite 400 this weekend after his car suffered extensive damage in a practice crash at Rockford Speedway two weeks ago. Rounding out the top ten in points are Jim Crabtree Jr. in 6th, Eddie Van Meter in 7th, Chuck Barnes Jr. in 8th, Ken Muller’s Sunoco sponsored #94 team which has been piloted primarily by series veteran Todd Oliver is in 9th , with Terry Fisher Jr. in 10th.

21-year-old Louisville, Kentucky native Chuck Barnes Jr. has seen a huge lead in the 2003 Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year standings slip away recently with a streak of bad luck, until the series event at Rockford Speedway on September 21st. Barnes now holds a 21-point lead over Michigan’s Tom Hernly Jr. and a 35 point lead over 17 year old Ossian, Indiana native Terry Fisher Jr. Both Hernly and Fisher Jr. suffer DNF’s at Rockford Speedway.

The 34th Annual Car Brite 400 weekend will start on Friday with practice and first round qualifying for the Sunoco Super Series. On Saturday the series will have practice along with second round qualifying. The 34th Annual Car Brite 400 will take the green flag at 1PM on Sunday. Salem, IN (October 1, 2003) – Sunoco Super Series competitor Andy Ponstein will be doing double duty by racing in two different extra lap events this weekend. On Friday the 2002 Sunoco Super Series Rookie Of the Year will drive from his home in Jenison, Michigan to Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana to practice and qualify for Sunday’s 34th Annual Car Brite 400 Sunoco Super Series event. Ponstein became a first time winner with the Sunoco Super Series on September 13th in the Sunoco 150 at Anderson Speedway.

Ponstein and his team will then drive back to Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan for Saturday’s Chet Mysliwiec Memorial 100, which was rained out last Saturday and rescheduled for this Saturday. First, Ponstein will compete in a 50 lap-qualifying race on Saturday at Berlin Raceway, then in the 100 lap Chet Mysliwiec Memorial 100 against many of the top Outlaw Late Model drivers in the Mid-west.

Ponstein and his team will then make the trip back to Winchester Speedway on Sunday in time to make the final preparations to his Great Deals Coupon Magazine/Nyland Body Shop Ford for the grueling 400 lap Car Brite 400, which is scheduled to take the green flag at 1PM. If all goes well Ponstein will compete in 550 laps of racing at two of the toughest racetracks in the nation this weekend, along with all the practice and qualifying laps.

Kyle Busch To Compete With The Sunoco Super Series In This Weekends Car Brite 400 At Winchester Speedway

Salem, IN (September 30, 2003) – Teenage racing phenom Kyle Busch, younger brother of NASCAR Winston Cup driver Kurt Busch, will be racing in this weekends 34th Annual Car Brite 400 Sunoco Super Series event at Winchester Speedway. This will be Busch’s second appearance with the Sunoco Super Series and his second race with the series on the famed high banks of Winchester Speedway. Busch competed last year in the Sunoco Super Series Car Brite 200 at Winchester Speedway getting a ninth place finish, one lap down to the leaders. Busch showed he had one of the fastest cars on the track that day after coming back from three laps down after a broken wheel forced him to make an early green flag pit stop. Busch was on his way to making up the last lap he was down and getting ready to put himself into position to challenge for the win when his motor lost a cylinder. Busch managed to nurse the car home and get the top ten finish.

Busch will be driving the #84 Hendricks County Motorsports Chevrolet owned by Indianapolis businessman Jim Winters, the same team he drove for last season at Winchester. Another young aspiring driver, Louisville, Kentucky native Chris Gabehart, will drive a team car to Busch for Winters in the Car Brite 400. Gabehart has competed in selected Sunoco Super Series events during the 2003 season for the Hendricks County Motorsports team.

Busch signed a contract with famed NASCAR Winston Cup team owner Rick Hendrick prior to the beginning of the 2003 race season after competing in the ASA Racing Series last year when NASCAR rule changes wouldn’t allow the 17 year old to compete in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Busch has competed in five ARCA RE/Max Series events for Hendrick so far this season with two wins. Busch has also competed in four NASCAR Busch Series events for Hendrick as a teammate to Brian Vickers with two top five finishes including a second place finish in his NASCAR Busch Series debut in May at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. It was recently announced that Busch will compete full-time in the NASCAR Busch Series next year replacing Vickers, who will move up to drive for Hendricks in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. Busch will have some big shoes to fill next year, Vickers is currently leading the NACAR Busch Series points while winning three of the last six NASCAR Busch Series races.

The 34th Annual Car Brite 400 weekend will start on Friday with practice and first round qualifying for the Sunoco Super Series. On Saturday the series will have practice along with second round qualifying and a last chance race. The 34th Annual Car Brite 400 will take the green flag at 1PM on Sunday. For more information on this weekend’s events at Winchester Speedway go to www.winchesterspeedway.com or www.sunocosuperseries.com.

Salem, IN (September 29, 2003) – Canadian racing legend Junior Hanley will be trying to win his third straight Five-Star Racecar Bodies Challenge this Sunday, October 5th in the 34th Annual Car Brite 400 at Winchester Speedway. The Car Brite 400 will be the Sunoco Super Series season championship event. Hanley and Scott Hantz are both tied with 88 points a piece after the Rockford Speedway National Short Track Championship Sunoco Super Series event held on September 21st, the first of the last two series points races. Breese Takes The National Short Track Championships Title With A Sunoco Super Series Victory

Rockford, IL (September 21, 2003) – Ron Breese, Jr. grew up watching races at the Rockford Speedway, and always wanted to win the National Short Track Championships. Sunday he had a chance to fulfill that dream and he did. Starting on the outside of the front row, Breese jumped ahead at the green flag and led every lap of the EWT, Inc. 250, and the crowning event of the National Short Track Championships. The victory was the second Sunoco Super Series victory for the DeKalb, Illinois native, his first came last season at Anderson Speedway.

"It’s the only race that I can remember wanting to win since I was a small kid," stated a jubilant Breese in victory lane. “It got pretty exciting there at the end, but I was going to do what I had to do to win this one. I really enjoy racing with the Sunoco Super Series, and winning races sponsored by my teams sponsor EWT, Inc!”

Brian Hoppe was putting the heat on Breese for the lead when he attempted a bump and run on the white flag lap. Hoppe got beside Breese, but was pushed back by an equally strong move from Breese who turned right and pushed Hoppe back into second place. 2003 Rockford Speedway Late Model Champion Ricky Bilderback finished a strong third in his first ever Sunoco Super Series start. Random Lake, Wisconsin native, and 2003 Slinger Speedway Late Model Champion Brad Mueller finished fourth, the highest finishing Dodge entry. 2002 National Short Track Champion Steve Rubeck finished fifth. The Cherry Valley, Illinois veteran driver had the highest finishing Ford.

Junior Hanley finished sixth to lead the Sunoco Super Series regulars. Hanley was returning to Rockford Speedway for the first time since 1981 when he claimed the National Short Track Championship. Sunoco Super Series veteran Jeff Lane finished in seventh, fighting his way back after going to the tail twice for on track incidents. Terry Fisher had his best Sunoco Super Series finish of the year in eighth place, driving for veteran car owner Floyd Fehl. Current series points leader Bobby Parsley nurse home his ill handling car to a sixteenth place finish to retain his series points lead with one event left.

Yockey Motorsports Marketing Fast Qualifier Scott Hantz had a good day go away when he was attempting to pass Brian Hoppe for second on the high side, but got too high and spun in turn 2 on lap 232. This left Hoppe free to concentrate on Breese. Breese handled this challenge and was on his way to running out the race when Mike Monroe and Brad Wagner tangled on lap 245 bringing out the yellow. Under Sunoco Super Series rules the last five laps must be run under the green flag, so on lap 251 Hoppe and Breese began a sprint to the finish that Breese won, but not with out a strong challenge from Hoppe.

Chuck Barnes Jr. extended his points lead over both his closest competitors in the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie of the Year Race when he finished ninth in the EWT, Inc. 250, fighting to stay on the lead lap through out the middle of the event. Terry Fisher, Jr., currently third in Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie of the Year points, exited early do to an accident when he road up onto the wall in turns one and two, with two wheels on top of the wall in turn 2 before coming back down on all fours. Tom Hernly Jr. had a solid run end with an ignition problem which forced him out of the EWT, Inc. 250 on lap 222, dropping him from eighth, where he was running, to his finish of 19th. Hernly is currently second in Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie of the Year points, he trails Barnes by 21 points with one series points event left at Winchester Speedway on October 5th.

John Prestagaud, Crew Chief for Ron Breese, Jr., was the Gladiator GarageWorks Crew Chief Of The Race. Chuck Barnes Jr. was the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Race. Frank Kreyer earned the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger Award. Kreyer finished 10th after starting 25th. Steve Rubeck and Frank Kreyer earned Goodyear Performance Awards. Ron Breese swept The Wax Shop Lap Leader Bonus Program. Breese received a total of $400 in bonuses for leading laps 50, 100, 150 and 200. Breese also got the Cometic Gaskets Halfway Bonus for leading lap 125 of the EWT, Inc. 250. Breese received the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move Of The Race Award for keeping the lead on the last lap even with contact from Brian Hoppe.

The next Sunoco Super Series event will be the Motordrome Super Late Model Challenge on Saturday, September 27 at Motordrome Speedway in Smithton, PA. For more information on that event and the Sunoco Super Series go to www.sunocosuperseries.com

Todd Kempf Wins Junkyard 200 At Winchester Speedway

Winchester, IN (September 16, 2003) – Huntingburg, Indiana’s Todd Kempf came away with the win in the rescheduled Junkyard 200 Street Stock event this past Sunday at Winchester Speedway. Kempf, a regular competitor at Salem Speedway, took command just before halfway in the event to get the win. Kempf had a little luck on his side when a late race caution allowed him to pit under caution for gas which would have cost him a couple of laps if he would have had to pit under green flag conditions.

“It feels great to win here at Winchester Speedway,” commented Kempf in victory lane. “I have always run well in these type races at Salem Speedway, so I figured with some breaks we would do good here also. We got lucky with the caution on lap 173, if that hadn’t have happened when it did, I probably wouldn’t have won!”

Kempf is currently second in Coors Light Super Stock points at Salem Speedway with four wins. Kempf has also competed on a regular basis in the Firecracker 200 and Halloween 200 at Salem Speedway for several year, which are ran under the same rules as the Junkyard 200. Kempf won the Firecracker 200 at Salem in 2001.

New Castle, Indiana’s Mark Jones came in second with Carthage, Indiana’s Johnny Magee in third. The top three drivers were the only cars on the lead lap. Jeffersonville, Indiana native and Salem Speedway regular Roscoe Thompson came in fourth, two laps down. Markleville, Indiana’s Dennis Wallen rounded out the top five, three laps down.

The event got off to a shaky beginning after two cautions from wrecks entering the first turn after the first two tries at starting the event. Those cautions eliminated several cars, which never got to make an official lap. There was a stretch from lap 60 to lap 173 that was run with out a caution.

Tony Broyles got the win in the 40 lap Phillippe Water Super Trucks feature that ran prior to the Junkyard 200 on Sunday. Broyles, also from New Castle, made a late pass on Jack Dossey Jr. to get the win. The Phillippe Water Super Trucks race regularly at Anderson Speedway.

Andy Ponstein Wins First Sunoco Super Series Race

Anderson, IN (September 13, 2003) – 2002 Sunoco Super Series Rookie of the Year Andy Ponstein won his first Sunoco Super Series race at historic Anderson Speedway Saturday night. Starting on the outside of the front row followed the pole sitter Jim Crabtree early in the race and took the lead on lap 40 when Crabtree spun to avoid an accident in turns 1-2. Fast Qualifier Jeff Lane finished second with series veteran Junior Hanley in third.

“I can’t say enough about the crew tonight,” commented Ponstein. “They had the car ready to go when we rolled it off the trailer, and it was fast all night without us turning a wrench on it at all tonight.”

Ponstein, who finished second in the Buckeye Bash last week, won his first Sunoco Super Series race after finishing in the Top several times in his career. After finishing as Rookie of the Year last year, he has run an
abbreviated this year also competing in the NASCAR Truck and ARCA ReMax series.

On the start of the race Scott Hantz got into the wall on the front stretch and crashed. He could not make it back for the restart and appeared to be out for the race. On the restart Crabtree, on the pole after the invert, jumped out to an early lead. He was being chased closely by Ponstein when several cars that were about to be lapped spun in turns 1-2. Crabtree had no place to go and put his car in a spin to avoid the cars, Ponstein went high and Lane went low to avoid nearly blocked track that brought out the red flag.

Leading the pack on the restart Ponstein took off, Lane followed with Parsley and Hanley in hot pursuit. Hanley came from ninth place to finish third. Hantz did return to the race, just missing reentering at a yellow ended at lap 75, and he was forced to wait until the next yellow on lap 139 to enter the race track.

Jeff Lane won the Scott Performance Wire Tri-State Challenge Saturday. The Scott Performance Wire Challenge is awarded to the driver that finished with the most points in selected races this year in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. Lane won two of the 4 races and finished second in the Sunoco 150. Junior Hanley finished second and Eddie Van Meter finished third. By winning the challenge Lane wins $400 and a set of Scott Performance Wires.

Herb Wouthuis, Crew Chief for Andy Ponstein, was the Gladiator GarageWorks Crew Chief Of The Race. Tom Hernly Jr. was the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Race. Junior Hanley and Eddie Van Meter earned Goodyear Performance Awards. Andy Ponstein got the Kingen Interstate Halfway Bonus. Ponstein received the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move Of The Race Award for an excellent job of missing the accident on lap 40 that happened right in front of the leaders. Rick Turner broke a motor in practice and did not get to start, he received the EMF Corp Hard Luck Award.

The Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year Battle, The Tightest In Sunoco Super Series History

Salem, IN (September 11, 2003) – There are three Sunoco Super Series points races left to decide the closest Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year battle the Sunoco Super Series has had in its seven year history. Thanks in part to the new points system started this season for the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year Award program, which allows each registered rookie to throw out their two worst finishes of the season. Louisville, Kentucky native Chuck Barnes Jr. currently leads the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year points, but has seen a comfortable lead evaporate over the last five series races. Barnes currently holds a 17-point lead over Ossian, Indiana’s Terry Fisher Jr., and Lansing, Michigan’s Tom Hernly Jr. who are now tied for second after last Sunday’s series event at Columbus Motor Speedway.

Seventeen year old Terry Fisher Jr., or as he is better known in the pits, T.J., is in his first year ever in a late model racecar. His father, fellow Sunoco Super Series competitor Terry Fisher Sr., owns T.J.’s team with help from Terry’s car owner Floyd Fehl. T.J. had previously raced in a street stock and limited late model at Baer Field Speedway. T.J. has adapted quickly to the variety of tracks on the Sunoco Super Series schedule and has overcome several part failures and wrecks he did not cause to stay in the hunt for the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year honors. Fisher has won the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Race Award two times this season.

Hernly’s background had been mainly in local super late models at Spartan Speedway and other selected tracks through out southern Michigan. Hernly had raced a few selected Sunoco Super Series races in 2001 and 2002. Hernly has benefited most from the new format this season. Hernly did not make the field for the Sunoco Super Series season opener at Anderson Speedway in April after breaking two drive shafts in practice and qualifying. Hernly then sat out the series race at Winchester Speedway in June to regroup his team to race the remainder of the 2003 season. Hernly has come on strong since coming back from Winchester including a 5th place finish at Angola Motor Speedway after leading the first 23 laps of that event and a 6th place finish this past Sunday at Columbus Motor Speedway. Hernly has won the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Race Award five times this season.

Barnes prior experience had been mostly on the high banks of Salem Speedway in a street stock, super stock and last season in a late model. Barnes had also run selected Sunoco Super Series events in 2001 and 2002. Barnes showed what he could do at the Car Brite 200 at Winchester Speedway last October. Barnes set fast time and went on to finish second to winner Bull Baker even after a spin and flat tire. Barnes has maintained his Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year points lead since the second race of the season at Mt. Lawn Speedway, in which Barnes had his season high finish of third. Barnes also finished 7th in the Anderson 400 in July followed by a 5th place finish the next week at Toledo Speedway. Barnes has had a streak of bad luck since the Toledo race that has seen his early points lead drastically cut. Barnes has gotten caught up in wrecks not of his making in three events and lost his brakes in two events. Barnes has won the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Race Award five times this season.

The next Sunoco Super Series event will be the Sunoco 150 this Saturday, September 13 at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana. For more information on that event and the Sunoco Super Series go to www.sunocosuperseries.com.

Fred Campbell Wins Federated Auto Parts 150

Columbus, OH (September 7, 2003) – Battle Creek, Michigan’s Fred Campbell got his third win of the Sunoco Super Series season in Sunday’s Federated Auto Parts 150 presented by K95.5 at Columbus Motor Speedway, during the 1st Annual Federated Auto Parts Buckeye Bash. Starting from his 3rd starting position, worked his way around Bobby Parsley and early race leader Andy Ponstein.

Just like at his earlier wins, Campbell had to battle the early leader who started on the front row. Andy Ponstein took the early lead and led the first 58 laps holding off a very competitive Bobby Parsley, who tried to pass Ponstein on nearly every lap. Campbell worked his way around Parsley and beat Ponstein on a great move on the outside. Campbell led the rest of the way for his third win of the year and his 11th straight Top 5 finish in a Sunoco Super Series event.

“This was a great win for my team and my car owner Vern Slaugh,” commented Campbell. “The Sunoco Super Series regulars are always tough, adding in Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace and Gary St. Amant probably makes this one of the strongest field of racers I have ever beaten! This is a tough track to pass on so when I got that good run on the outside around Parsley, I figured I might as well go for the whole thing!”

The Buckeye Bash featured NASCAR stars Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader racing in their first Sunoco Super Series race flying over to Columbus Sunday morning after the Saturday night NASCAR Winston Cup race at Richmond International Speedway. Wallace finished 5th in series veteran Bull Baker’s car with Schrader finishing 7th in Andy Ponstein’s backup car. After a bad-qualifying run, Schrader came from 19th to 7th to give him the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger award. Wallace started 5th had worked his way to 4th when a hard charging Gary St. Amant, an ASA Racing Series regular, pushed his way past Wallace before being bottled up behind the Ponstein/Parsley battle for second.

Dan Finkbeiner, Crew Chief for Fred Campbell, was the Gladiator GarageWorks Crew Chief Of The Race. Tim Ice was the Terra Horticultural Services/Yockey Motorsports Marketing Fast Qualifier. Tom Hernly Jr. was the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Race. Gary St. Amant and Kenny Schrader earned Goodyear Performance Awards. Tweedy Wins First Sunoco Super Series Race of 2003

Angola, IN (August 30, 2003) - Kenny Tweedy challenged Pleasant Lake, Indiana's Scott Hantz on his home track and came away with a hard fought win in the Electric Mills 150 Saturday night. Tweedy, second fastest qualifier for the event, started in the fifth position due to the invert and worked his way quickly to second where Hantz held him in check for several laps until the 92nd lap where Tweedy found an opening and drove past him to take the lead for good.

This is Tweedy's first Sunoco Super Series win since April 2002. "It has been a long time,” stated Tweedy. "We have had a fast car all year, we just couldn't get a break. Hopefully that monkey is off our back, and this is a sign of better things to come."

Tom Hernly, Jr. started on the pole and took the early lead giving it up to Hantz on lap 24. Hernly continued running well finishing fifth for his first Top 5 finish of 2003, Hantz held the lead until passed by Tweedy. Tweedy held off Hantz who was an obvious fan favorite, and a hard charging Bobby Parsley and won by 1/2 a car length.

Parsley, the Yockey Motorsports Fast Qualifier, started sixth and had worked his way up to third and pushed the leaders the last several laps. Junior Hanley, Sunoco Super Series point’s leader starting the night, was out of the race early due to an accident on lap 33. This gives Parsley the points lead by less than 25 points with four series point’s races to go. Hantz gained several points on Hanley and is now only a few points behind for second.

Kevin Bowling, Crew Chief for Kenny Tweedy, was the Gladiator GarageWorks Crew Chief Of The Race. Jeff Lane was the Lane Automotive / ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger Award winner. Lane finished 4th from his 16th place starting position. Tom Hernly Jr. was the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Race. Jeff Lane and Bobby Murany earned Goodyear Performance Awards. Scott Hantz got the Jonny On The Spot Delivery Service Halfway Bonus. Scott Hantz also received the Everidge Auto Sales Lap Leader Award. Scott Baker received the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move Of The Race Award for a number of fantastic passes to finish 6th after falling back to the tail after spinning to avoid another car on lap 85.

The next Sunoco Super Series event will be the Federated Auto Parts Buckeye Bash Presented By K05.5 on Sunday, September 7th at Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio featuring current NASCAR Winston Cup drivers Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace. Ponstein And Baker To Supply Rides For Schrader And Wallace At The Buckeye Bash

Salem, IN (August 28, 2003) – Two Sunoco Super Series teams have come forward to supply rides for NASCAR Winston Cup Series drivers Kenny Schrader and Kenny Wallace in the September 7th Federated Auto Parts Buckeye Bash Presented By K95.5 at Columbus Motor Speedway. Kenny Schrader will drive a car provided by Ponstein Racing, he will be a teammate of 2002 Sunoco Super Series Rookie Of The Year Andy Ponstein. Kenny Wallace will driver the primary car of Sunoco Super Series veteran racer Bull Baker.

Ponstein and Schrader have gotten to know each other this season through Ponstein’s ARCA RE/Max Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team owner John Bailey, who has been friends with Schrader for several years.

“ I offered one of my cars to Kenny Schrader for the Columbus race when we tested together at Toledo Speedway prior to the ARCA RE/Max Series race there in May,” remarked Andy Ponstein. “I’ve always respected Schrader for all the racing he does besides his full-time NASCAR Winston Cup ride, I think its great we can be teammates for that event. Wouldn’t it be neat if him and I are battling for the win coming to the checkers!”

Ponstein has already entered his number 00 Nylan Body Shop Ford for the Sunoco Super Series Federated Auto Parts 150 Presented By K95.5, as is Schrader’s number 99 Federated Auto Parts Pontiac. Ponstein has been racing part-time with the Sunoco Super Series this season. Ponstein has made selected starts with the ARCA Re/Max Series and made his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut earlier this month at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Sunoco Super Series veteran car owner and driver Bull Baker offered the services of his primary Sunoco Super Series car for Wallace last week. Baker is currently 8th in series 2003 owner’s points. Baker has five career wins with the Sunoco Super Series including a win at the prestigious Anderson 400 in 2001.

“I’m really excited about having Kenny Wallace drive my car in the Buckeye Bash at Columbus,” remarked Baker. “We have struggled this season on the flat tracks, so I looked at this as an opportunity to possibly improve our race program with what we can learn from having Wallace drive the car at Columbus. My Crew Chief Tim Neal, my brother Tim, myself and the rest of our team will be working to put Kenny Wallace in victory lane on Sunday, September 7th!”

Sizzle Marine located in Columbus, Ohio, will be the primary sponsor of Kenny Wallace’s number 78 Chevrolet in the Federated Auto Parts 150 Presented By K95.5. Bull Baker’s regular sponsors Car Brite, Stoops Automotive Group and Cooper Tire have generously agreed to be associate sponsors of the car for the Columbus event.

Sunoco Super Series Adds Non-Points Special at Pennsylvanias Motordrome Speedway
$4000 to Win Event Will Pit SSS Stars Against the Top Drivers in the Pennsylvania Area

Salem, IN (August 25, 2003) – Officials from the Sunoco Super Series and Motordrome Speedway announced the addition of a 150 lap special event on Saturday September 27th. For the Sunoco Super Series it will be a non-points event, but interest is still very high. There will not be a mandatory pit stop, and teams are not allowed to change tires unless they have a flat. These are measures to help control the costs, and encourage participation by all the local teams.

“We have a lot of interest from our racers in going to this new race track,” Sunoco Super Series founder R. J. Scott noted. “We’ve got a groundswell of support in the Ohio-Pennsylvania region, and that group is really excited. For the fans, we already have commitments from some of our top drivers. Add to them the flavor of the local teams stepping up to take the challenge, and you’ve got the recipe for a great event and the chance to build a fall tradition.”

According Motordrome race director Ron Brutt, “We are really excited to get the chance to host this race with the Sunoco Super Series. We got a late start on actually making it happen, but our goal here is to get the groundwork done on what could be a great annual event. With some rule changes we are making, we are going to get our local guys more competitive with the SSS teams, but what we lack in horsepower, we should make up in track experience.”

Sunoco Super Series director Glenn Luckett added, “This is a great market for Sunoco. As a result, Motordrome could easily be a track we see on the schedule next year as a stop on our championship tour. It is a relatively easy drive, just straight over on 1-70.” Motordrome Speedway is located just off I-70 near Smithton PA, only 25 miles from downtown Pittsburgh.

For the teams that choose to, there will be an open practice on Friday night September 26th. On September 27th, the gates will open at 11:00 am, with 1-½ hours of practice from 3:00 to 4:30, qualifying at 5:30, with the Sunoco Super Series 150 lap feature scheduled to start at 7:15.

Hantz In The Right Place To Claim The Win In The Ringers Gloves 100
Presented By Howe Racing At Baer Field Speedway

Ft. Wayne, IN (August 24, 2003) – Pleasant Lake, Indiana’s Scott Hantz was in the right place on Sunday afternoon to get the victory in the Sunoco Super Series Ringers Gloves 100 Presented By Howe Racing at Baer Field Speedway in Ft.Wayne, Indiana. Hantz, who earlier in the day claimed the Yockey Motorsports Marketing Fast Qualifier Award, had worked his way up to third from his sixth place inverted starting position in the later laps of the of the event, and found himself behind a heated battle between Junior Hanley and Fred Campbell for first place. Contact from Campbell sent Hanley spinning on lap 72 of the 100 lap event. Hanley was regulated to the tail of the field after spinning along with Campbell for initiating the contact. That opened the door for Hantz to claim the lead on lap 73. Hantz pulled away to claim the victory, his third of the season, and his eleventh career victory with the Sunoco Super Series.

“I had a fast car all day, but didn’t think I would end up in victory lane,” remarked Hantz. “If Junior’s spin hadn’t happened, it would have been tough for me to have passed both of them to get the win. I’ll take it, we worked hard to be fast today, and just managed to be in the right spot towards the end! My car owner, Dick Poe, brought his Mother-In-Law to the race today, she seems to be a good luck charm for me, she’s been to three Sunoco Super Series races, and I’ve one all three!”

The Ringers Gloves 100 Presented By Howe Racing saw three different drivers to take turns leading. Jeff Lane had the early lead from his pole starting position, but lost it to Fred Campbell on lap 13. Campbell only got to lead three laps before Hanley powered by to take the lead on lap 16. Hanley lead until the incident on lap 72, Hanley ‘s car seemed to be slowing and Fred Campbell looked to be faster, but Hanley was using every inch of the racetrack to keep the Battle Creek, Michigan late model veteran behind him. The event had only two caution periods for 13 laps. The long green run in the middle put a lot of good cars a lap down to the leaders.

Eight drivers finished on the lead lap including second place finisher Bobby Parsley, who may have had the fastest car on the track at the end of the race. A late pass on the outside of Eddie Hoffman got Parsley the second place finish. Hoffman finished third, his third top five finish with the series in three series events so far this season. Campbell and Hanley each battled back for a top five finish. Campbell came home fourth followed by Hanley in fifth. The last three cars to stay on the lead lap were JR Roahrig in sixth, Jack Landis in seventh and Todd Oliver in eight.

Pat Anderson, Crew Chief for Scott Hantz, was the Gladiator GarageWorks Crew Chief Of the Race Award winner. Terry Fisher Jr. was the Hubler Automotive Group/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Race. Eddie Van Meter was the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger Award winner. Van Meter finished ninth after starting twenty second. Hantz and Van Meter earned Goodyear Performance Awards. Hantz claimed the Spray Power Clean Sweep Award of $150 for winning and being the fast qualify of the Ringers Gloves 100 Presented By Howe Racing. The Jonny On The Spot Delivery Service Halfway Leader Award for leading at lap 50 went to Junior Hanley. Bobby Parsley received the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move Of The Race Award for his late outside pass of Eddie Hoffman to take second spot away. The EMF Corp Hard Luck Award went to Scott Whitehouse.

Just like at Toledo Speedway on July 20th, Campbell was the Yockey Motorsports Marketing Fast Qualifier, breaking the Sunoco Super Series qualifying record in the process. Then starting from his 4th starting position, worked his way to the front to get the win in the GMAC Financial Services 100 Presented By GM Visa Card, which earned him his second Spray Power Clean Sweep Award of the season, which paid Campbell a $300 bonus. Just like at Toledo Speedway, Campbell had to battle early leader Jeff Lane for the first 33 laps before taking the lead for good on lap 34. The Sunoco Super Series ran the first 46 laps without a caution after a first lap caution, when Tom Gray hit the backstretch retaining wall, which caused a complete restart of the race. Campbell fought off the challenges of Lane and then Ray Skillman on each restart to take the victory.

“This is a great win for my team,” remarked Campbell in victory lane. “We came here last year for the first time and really liked it. This is my kind of racetrack, it’s great to win a race here especially in front of this huge crowd! This has got to be the largest crowd I have ever raced in front of!

The Annual UAW Family Night drew another capacity crow of close to 20,000 UAW race fans that filled the grandstands at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Indianapolis businessman Ray Skillman from nearby Greenwood, Indiana, put on a good show for his hometown fans. Skillman started from the outside pole and was in the lead battle through out the event. Skillman could catch Campbell, but didn’t have enough to make a pass and had to settle for second.

Scott Hantz, winner of the Sunoco Super Series event last October at IRP, finished 3rd. Hantz was able to gain several points on series points leaders Junior Hanley and Bobby Parsley as they finished twelfth and eleventh respectively. Jeff Lane led the first 33 laps until his car started to go away. Lane was in a tough battle with Eddie Hoffman during the last portion of the race, but Lane was able to hold off Hoffman for fourth with Hoffman finishing fifth.

Hoffman Wins Hard Fought 6th Annual International Gold Cup 100

Ft. Wayne, IN (August 8, 2003) – Veteran Mid-west late model competitor Eddie Hoffman made is first ever start with the Sunoco Super Series a memorable one, winning a hard fought battle with series veteran Scott Hantz in the 6th Annual International Gold Cup 100 Thursday night at Baer Field Speedway in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The Sunoco Super Series non-points sanctioned event had plenty of fireworks on the track through out the event.

Hoffman starting the evening off by setting a new track record in Yockey Motorsports Marketing Qualifying, Hoffman drew a three for the inverted start, which put Jack Landis and Hantz on the front row. Hantz, one of the local favorites, took the early lead from his outside pole starting position with Jack Landis and Hoffman in tow. Hoffman began to challenge Landis early in the event before finally getting buy setting his sights on Hantz. Hoffman, currently second in points with the NASCAR International Truck & Engine Midwest Series, crept closer and closer with his brakes glowing bright red with each passing lap. Hoffman challenged Hantz for several laps, doing everything he could to get around the former Sunoco Super Series Champion.

The heated battle backed off a bit at the end of a 56 lap green run before the red flag flew on lap 71 when precautions had to take place for an overheated electrical transformer above the grandstands. The problem was quickly fixed, and the racing resumed with Hoffman once again challenging Hantz for the lead. Finally after trading bumps and pushes with Hantz, Hoffman made the pass on lap 88 to take the lead and eventually the win, as Hantz had nothing left to challenge Hoffman.

“Its great to get a win in our first time out with the Sunoco Super Series,” remarked Hoffman. “We were able to catch Hantz fairly quickly, but it sure was hard to pass him! We both did some beat ‘in and bang ‘in, but that’s racing, we both wanted to win this one! The red flag helped us tremendously, we had practically no brakes left at the end of that long green run in the middle, the red flag period cooled down the brakes so we could race hard again.”

The win was Hoffman’s 14th of the season, which includes three wins with the NASCAR International Truck & Engine Midwest Series, and wins at Grundy County Speedway and Illiana Speedway were he competes on a part-time basis. Hoffman plans to race with the Sunoco Super Series again at IRP on August 16th, Baer Field Speedway on August 24th and at Rockford Speedway on September 21st.

Hantz held on to finish second collecting the Jonny On The Spot Delivery Service Halfway Leader Award on the way. Jack Landis finished third with perhaps the best seat in the house for the great race between Hoffman and Hantz. Former Series Champion Brian Rievley finished fourth, his best series finish since his win at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. Fred Campbell finished fifth after a night of tough battles for position with Junior Hanley and JR Roahrig. Hanley and Roahrig had good finishes go by the way side when contact between the two resulted in both drivers spinning out with ten laps to go.

Tom Kmak was the Gladiator GarageWorks Crew Chief Of The Race Award winner. Kmak was the Crew Chief for race winner Eddie Hoffman. Scott Baker was the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger Award winner. Baker finished 7th after starting 18th. Campbell and Baker claimed Goodyear Performance Awards. Ron Dantzer received the EMF Corp Hard Luck Award, a blown engine in practice kept Dantzer from competing in the event. Scott Hantz received the Sweet Manufacturing “Sweet Move” of the Race Award when he managed to re-pass Hoffman on the outside of turn one and two after Hoffman had slid by on the inside.

The next Sunoco Super Series event will be the GMAC 100 Presented By GM Visa Card at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Saturday, August 16th. More information can be found at www.sunocosuperseries.com.

Schrader & Wallace Excited About Sunoco Super Series Debut
NASCAR Stars to battle Sunoco Super Series regulars in 150 Lap event at Columbus Motor Speedway

(Salem-IN) –The Federated Auto Parts “Buckeye Bash” at Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio on Sunday September 7th has uncovered a lot of excited racers, and two of the most notable ones are NASCAR drivers Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace. Each of the drivers will be involved in the Richmond NASCAR Winston Cup event the night before, and will fly in early the next morning to prepare for the Federated Auto Parts 150 for the Sunoco Super Series later that day. Also, on the card will be the USA Modified series, and the $1000-to-Win Ohio Street Stock Championship.

"The Federated Auto Parts Buckeye Bash is going to be a great race for Kenny Wallace and me to run,” Schrader said recently. “We race each other a lot - in Winston Cup, on short tracks, on dirt...wherever. The Columbus event is great for me too, because Federated Auto Parts is the title sponsor, which is our sponsor on a lot of our short track stuff. I'm going to be running one of Andy Ponstein's cars and he has good equipment. It should be a great race for all the fans to see.”

Kenny Wallace shared similar enthusiasm for the event. “I love these kinds of cars…they are the same kind of cars I started my career in. Plus, I enjoyed racing at Columbus in my ASA days.” Wallace was the 1986 ASA Rookie of the Year. Recently, he had the chance to return to a straight rail late model at Lake Erie Speedway, where he started 26th and finished 3rd.

Both stars recognize the tough challenge they have ahead. Besides the top stars in the Sunoco Super Series, 2-time ASA national champion Gary St. Amant will make his return to the series with the start at his home track. “We’re going into their backyard,” Wallace noted, “and it’s going to be tough to beat them.” Schrader added, “The guys who run the Sunoco Super Series are good racers. I know they won't lay down for us.” The two Winston Cup stars know they’ll be battling some of the toughest short track stars in racing, including Scott Hantz, J. R. Roahrig, Bobby Parsley, Jeff Lane and the legendary Junior Hanley (all in the top five in Sunoco Super Series point standings). Hanley was the winner in the inaugural Series visit to Columbus last year and is the current point leader.

Racing for the Sunday September 7th Federated Auto Parts Buckeye Bash at Columbus Motor Speedway is slated to start at 2 pm. Tickets for the event will go on sale Saturday, August 16th. Seating is limited, so everyone is encouraged to get their tickets early.
